I might be wrong but surely that servo seal is there to stop crap dripping into the servo housing. If you have brake fluid pooling in front of it then the master cylinder piston seals are weaping instead.
Excellent video by the way... I can smell that 1980s Ford interior from here😊

    • @IanM18
      @IanM18 7 місяців тому +3

There should be NO brake fluid in the servo. You're correct that the seal is only there to stop crap getting in. The leak MUST be from fluid getting past the master cylinder seals.

This takes me back. Watching this vid, and Martin Kemp is DJ'ing on Greatest Hits playing tons of 82-84 stuff. I went to the NEC motor show in late '82 when these were launched. My old man had an A plate 2.0GL as a company car, the first car I did over a ton in - 115 on the A303. I had loads of Sierras in the 90's when they were cheap plentiful bangers. Now they've almost all gone.
I hope the next owners keep it as it is and don't modify it.

There is still many left but most of the earlier models are sorn.
There will be pre-sorn cars too that are not on any public database, and many more sitting in barns fields find, plus plenty of LHD models in europe
For 82-84 models, only 171 licenced, but 1296 SORN

@@deanosaur808unfortunatley sorn dont allways mean they still exist.since they no longer need sorning every year they can just sit around then be scrapped without being recorded.was much better when they had to be sorn every year.atleast tgere was a record they we're still around at that point in time.

Good Evening Josh. I knew right from the begining, this Incredible and rare Beauty would be revived once more. Her new owner will have a Great vehicle to drive anywhere they feel. It was very Good seeing You Josh, Install the Gearbox and just doing some tidying up. To see her running and driving down the road, was a real Joy. This rare Ford Sierra 1.6 L will Live again, and turn some heads no doubt. This was a really a Great Project to follow Josh, from the vert start. A Barn find that was well worth it. Thank you very much Josh. Jonathan.

One thing you should remedy is the wire circuit strips in the back light units, seeing the left hand side reverse light is rusty smudged there would say the circuits are more than well crispy with Dagenham rouge. Was having a moment remembering that when Ford stopped selling the 4 gear models, Reliant nipped in there pretty smartish and bought all the gear knobs, they also bought all the P100 rear light units which appeared on the Rialto first then the Robin and kept going right until the BN2.

Good cars,Sierras and very few left now so good that you have revived this one. I have done many clutches and clutch cable/adjusters changes on these. I had Diesel ones and the gearbox was very heavy. The adjuster can be done without removing the drivers seat or the pedal. You just need to bend yourself! I still have my Sierra that I have had for 25 years. It has done 400K + as a taxi and it should be back on the road this year.

One of the best cars I’ve ever owned was a 1989 Sierra 1.6L, bought it in 1999 for £400 with no MOT, cost £80 including the MOT to get it on the road, parts were dirt cheap and nothing really went wrong anyway, incredibly basic car, only had a radio and central locking, but it would happily sit at 80mph on the motorway, was very comfortable, loads of space. As a thing to get from A to B it was great. Unfortunately it got stolen by joy riders a couple of years after I bought it.

Fantastic job. I was in my early 20s when a lad i knew at my Ford dealer let me drive both the XR4 and the Cosworth when they first came out. Very lucky! We then bought a new 1.8GL in 1985 which broke down on the way home! Faulty heat sensor. It was in the family for over 10 years. I only discovered how heavy the brakes and steering were when i drove it later after having my own car. It also felt very slow but at the time i thought it was great !

Just imagine time warping back to the day this car left the dealer. No pot holes, smooth roads, no speed cameras, no bus lanes, affordable insurance as a youngster, no food banks, affordable houses and rents, no migrant boats crossing the channel.
Old Britain today is sooooo much better than 1984 thanks to our diversity.
    My arse!
I remember picking up my brand new Sierra GT in March of 1992, J392 LVL ( I got to choose the three digits) and I’d take 1992 over today every single time.

I’ve always loved these and I thought it was weird that it got such a cold initial reaction. That said I will admit that the last-Gen Cortina is far better looking that the first-Gen Sierra saloon. Obviously this changed when the coupe and the RS variants arrived, and the handsome 2nd-Gen. We got this variant (heavily modified) in the US with a completely different engine and suspension set-up that kinda flopped hard..
Us Yanks had the equally-slippery Ford Taurus that took a ton of notes from the same playbook. Ironically enough, people went bonkers over it and dealers couldn’t keep them on the lots. I still would love a first generation non-SHO variant. There’s a pristine red 1985 “LX” trim on display in The Henry Ford with less than 500 miles on the clock.

Erith? Used to be my stamping ground, worked for a while down the legendary Jimmy Emmins scrapyard out on the marsh next door to the Lorry racing lot who let me have a go on one for winning a bet. Got into going down there as he was golden for any old Ford stuff and I was always grabbing various Cortina or Crapri bits, the odd MK2 Escort for my bijou second hand car business up on Downham estate. Another place was a tiny little one in Plumstead and another I always got cheap was the two gypsy brothers underneath Lewisham station. Now they showed me all the tricks, using carbon tetrachloride out of fire extinguishers to coax a couple hundred miles out of a burnt to a crisp clutch but the best one was their concrete injection machine... sills a bit crispy? No problemo, just fill the sills with fine concrete then when set blackjack over for motworthy fun, proper sawdust in the gearbox/diff/sump rogues :)
