- The cost of housing can be one of the most daunting parts about the cost of living in Anchorage, Alaska. In this video, I examine what rental properties look like at the average price for renting in Anchorage, Eagle River and the Matsu Valley. Also, we'll examine when it's a good time to consider buying (and when it's a GREAT idea to rent!).

You forgot to mention that most homes in Anchorage, in price range of $450K have living rooms and kitchens on upper floor and not ground floor. It makes a difference for some people especially who are older. I know from experience that all our friends from lower 48th scratch their heads over this lol.

Buy= buy land for cheap u get lots of acres and build from a cabin to a massive lodge of ur desires, own horses, reindeer, yaks whatever or just leave it as is.
That's kind of what I'm planning. I'm going to move out there anywhere from 2-5 years I'm thinking, so might as well look into it haha.
But yeah what I'm thinking is get a job in Anchorage, live somewhere between Eagle River and Wasilla/Palmer area, that general stretch. in that area buy some land and then either build a home, or get a manufactured home and put it out there

Wow! For the same rental price as an entire Anchorage home like the first three you clicked on - you'd get a 1-2 bedroom apartment of about 750 sq feet here in Amsterdam!

Yup. The purchase price: let’s not even talk about it... you can only get a 400sq ft studio (zero bedroom) for about $350k here.

Just discovered your channel, and this is the sort of info I was looking for. Now, Kenai Peninsula or Mainland?? Pros and/or cons? I've heard more cons than pros but that's just been the lower 48 hearsay .
I could be looking for land as soon as summer 2021, but I may push that back to 2022.

I know that you work primarily in the South-Central part of the State but do you have any knowledge of the rental/purchase market in the Southeast part of the State, specifically the Ketchikan area?

Hi, can you please give us some information for some rental and For Sale properties in a lower price range!? Something for let’s say a single guy with two big dogs.....?! I am keeping the market in that area in eye and there is homes for rent and sale a lot cheaper than $2100/month and 400K.... I understand, that higher the price is, greater the broker’s commission is, but after all not all of us can afford such payments and prices! Especially, if a person doesn’t even know when, where and what kind a job will be able to get up there. Video of this sort will be very helpful and appreciated! Thank you in advance!
Thanks for watching! As specified throughout, these are averages for the area and they are in keeping with the wages in the area (people make more in AK than in a lot of other parts of the country). I don't think that's a bad idea researching that topic though. Thanks!

funny how u called a home from 1977 old, lol, to me that feels average in age. I dont think of them being old until the 1950's. lol, u called 1974 old too
It sounds strange, doesn't it?? In AK our homes are pretty new though. The state's only been around since '59 so our stuff is usually a lot newer.
I live out past Wasilla and most of the roads weren’t even here in the 70s. Our road was build about 15 years ago and we had to pay a large sum just to get power to our lot.

For me old is anything over 100 years. My property is 123 years old but looks new on the inside and outside due to renovations .In fact my town's folks have ancesters that came on the Mayflower
