If you go back to my earlier videos I actually made one about it. It’s a super easy but effective setup. I’ve had it on my jeep for two years now with zero issues 👍🏻
Ursa Minor specifically advises against doing this because it can cause the fabric at the foot end to bulge out, causing it to get caught in the hinges, which tears it. That being said…myself and most others have been storing bedding and pillows up top, for years. I was initially not careful enough and did know my tent fabric, but I have it down now so it hasn’t happened since.
Those measurements are useful. It looks like I could barely sit up inside it, but standing through the hole to below would work if I wanted to use a laptop inside.
This looks so aswome!! I had no idea the jeep could even do that lol Another reason to love my jeep, if i ever go camping this will be the first thing i get Update: never mind i just saw how much they cost Its almost as much as the jeep itself wtf!!!
I had mine installed at the shop in Chula Vista. I don’t know exactly how the process works, but I know they will work with you to get it shipped to a shop that can do the install for you
I had a heavy roof rack with RTT, prior to the J30, so I had already installed a set of Airlift1000 air bags to help compensate for that weight. The J30 is about 100lbs lighter than my previous setup. I have some 4.5” RK coils I’m going to install without air bags to see how that works, but I’ve been lazy about doing so lol
Awesome. I got mine three weeks ago. Queeestion: what is the bracket holder where you have your propane tank mounted on? A link would be awesome - Thanks!!
If you scroll down in my videos I actually made a video about that whole spare tire fuel carrier setup and there are links for everything I used in the video description 🙌🙌🙌
Thank you! I had a soft top before adding the J30 so I can’t really compare to a factory hard top, but I can definitely tell you it made the Jeep quieter in some ways and noisier in others. Like I get way less outside noise in the Jeep but I hear more road noise coming up from the bottom of the Jeep that I used to not. If you have tires with uneven wear or cupping you will definitely notice it.
@@KramerJunction Thank you for the reply. I just lost my 4R to an unseen hole during a water crossing and I’m looking at options for a replacement vehicle. This top ticks many of my boxes. Again, great videos and am currently watching one you posted on an interior high lift jack mount. Nice work 👍
So when I first picked up the top I had talked to Kris at Ursa Minor and I was saying how I thought the Jeep was going to be quieter because I had only ever had a soft top and he told me that i will get less noise from the top but more noise from the bottom of the Jeep. He specifically said that noises like tires with cupping will be louder and he was 100% right. I didn’t realize how noisy my KM2s really were. Since I’ve put a fresh set of KM3s on a month or so back the Jeep has been dramatically quieter. So, I notice less noise in some ways and more in others. Overall, I’d say it’s quieter than my factory soft top. Hopefully that answers your question in some way lol
@@KramerJunction awesome thank you for the info. That's crazy that you hear more of other noises because of it. @@danmulkiewicz5515I’ve never had an issue with the 3.6 running hot. I’ve had to replace a leaky thermostat housing, but otherwise everything has been good. I’m in Southern Ca and on long uphill stretches the temps have climbed a little, but nothing concerning. I installed an AFE Bladerunner GT Series Radiator. I have heard mixed reviews about aluminum radiators in general and crack developing, so I was wary, but things seem to be going well. I had to replace a leaky oil cooler filter housing and I knew I’d have to drain the expensive coolant so that’s honestly what sparked me to do the radiator. It has a larger coolant volume and more surface area so I wanted to see if it made a difference. When I was pulling the OEM radiator I actually found it had a small leak which was concealed so I’m glad I did it either way. I do notice that the Jeep doesn’t get as hot as quickly as it used to going up some of those steep mountain passes I tend to frequent. I wish I had done a video about the radiator, but it was such a big job doing the oil cooler plus the radiator so I just wanted it done.

Overpriced compared to what? Check the price on pickup bed campers, especially the pop-top variety ($9000+). Or even a rack and similar quality rooftop tent. A Rhino Rack and a mid-level hard shell roof rack will cost $1500 + $3500 for a $5000 total price. The Ursa Minor starts at half-again as much. I can't justify a RTT, when this is available. But I can't justify any of them, so I just use a tent. :)
Haha yes extremely nice and fast! With how much people are paying for roof racks and RTT nowadays it really isn’t that much of a stretch IMO. Definitely money well spent 👍🏻
Something a car salesman said to me comes to mind. There’s an ass for every seat. That will be the day I spend $10,000 dollars for a tent that I can go down to Academy and buy for under $200
To each their own, but the J30 isn’t exactly just a tent. When you consider that a Jeep hardtop alone is in the $3600 range and hard shell roof top tent range in to the thousands of dollars plus some type of roof rack or mounting solution, plus the labor that goes in to manufacturing with materials, the J30 is priced about right for everything you get 👍🏻
Have an J30 on my one. Fitment isnt as good as imagined. Poor ingeeniering on many parts. Gas lifter a rubbing on the tent material. At serveral spots. The 2 panels to climb up are knocking om every bump if nothing isnt up there. The Electrical Instsllstion is looking line an 3 year old child hat built it. And so one. At least it is an great option. But for the quality you get its really overpriced.
@@donewhiskey if you doubt or not. I have it on my jeep since 1 year now. The glued on rainslats are yoke and will fall down after 6 month. Changed the screws on the gas lifters because they had sharp edges rubbing on the tent material. The painting is set in until the face where the rubber seals of the doors are seating. After open and close the doors 200 times the rubbet seals are shot. All these are quality things like a china built about 2000 dollars. Reported every single one to ursa minor. No answer. But if an customer is on a other continent why they should care about. Thats not only a poor quality as well as an poor customer Support. 👍 If you name this great it would be. I name it horrible.
@@4x4-experts If that is your experience, that is really not okay. It is so much the opposite from any other experience that I have heard. Really, if this is still occurring, you need to pursue this. Either calling them, emailing them or contacting an outside arbitration service.
@@donewhiskey For me it doesnt matter how the experience of others are to be honiest. My J30 is in a shape of poor quality an craftmanship. It also fits really poor mainly. On the B Pillar the top seal is smashed out and on the A Pillar you cant get it tighten down firmly. Because you will destroy the seal on top of the B Pillar. Was removed the J30 several times and measuret it. And compared with the stock hardtop. I had to refinish it until it was matching. Also the problem with the painting in the door seal area is an well known issue on all J30. The Map pockets in front was made a rattling noise. Removed it and find 2 nuts which was rolling around under it. Possible that we here in Germany expect a little more quality at this pricing. Ive mailed them several time and no answer. After several weeks of corrections it was get handable, but really not was I expected. The Electrical Connector on the J30 is looking like an chinese peace of crap. Complete open positive connector screws. No cap or isolation... Removed it completly and exchanged it. If mailed them many times with pictures of all this and nobody answers only on time. So Ursa Minor seams to be give shit on customers on other continents. But they have really no problem to sell it and get your money. Sorry but thats my experience. Not possible to post Photos about all this here.. If invested a whole of time to manage all this issues until it is not perfect but OK. Ursa Minor has to know if it is ok for them to have an Customer which shares his experience like this.

How much does it cost ?
watch the video... 19:20 is when the price is mentioned. (I spit coffee on my keyboard when I heard the price)
Haha eh, yeah 🤷♂️😂😂
@@KramerJunction Campteq in Colorado manufactures integrated pop-up roof for Lexus GX for $16K. Ursa Minor is a bargain and should make it for Lexus GX.
End game! One day ... one day.
haha do it!!!
Great review!
Thank you! I’m glad you liked it 👍🏻
@@KramerJunction Chris Shontz did a good one too awhile ago but I think UM has made some upgrades since he bought his J30. I have my eye on a B30 for a new Bronco 4-door...
@@eigeroverland Yeah, I’ve watched all of Chris’s content, he’s awesome. I think I probably watched everything there was on UA-cam about the J30 before I ordered mine lol
I was trying to help fill some gaps and show more of what I wish others had shown, sort of a prospective buyers perspective
@@eigeroverland I will be very interested to see a Bronco version 🤔
Let me know when you pick yours up so I can do a walk around 😂🙌
Looks nice
Very informative
Damn, I like that!
Absolute game changer. I 100% recommend 👍🏻
@@KramerJunction Debating on what I want to buy as far as a 4x4. I sleep solid in subzero temps in the Eastern Sierra in my civic rally car. I've seen all kinds of sets ups, really like your design.
Nice.
Thanks! Liked and subscribed. I’m considering on selling the Tacoma and buying a Rubicon. I’ll be sure to follow on your other social media channels as well👍🏼
Thank you for the support 👍🏻
I need that o.o
It’s nice but way over priced. Especially with a in cab entry. Just a thought. Great video as always.
멋있어요
Nice but super pricey
@Nadine Shaalan LOL my one is not one year and a Gen2 they are calling.
For some reason I just can't put my finger on, I doubt your analysis.
