Wouldn’t it be great if it was the Angels against the White Sox in the American League Championship series, in real life? Both teams are in the American League conference, so they can’t play each other in the World Series, that’s for sure.
This is one of the most underrated films disney has produced. Being a 90's kid allowed me to enjoy films like this, and so many more. Operation Dumbo Drop, The Lion King, and Flubber are other great classics from back then, when Disney used to make good movies without political agenda or motive. This film in particular was one of my favorites growing up.
"I'm more proud of being a part of this team than any team I've been on"; what's really cool is the real Angels won the world series 8 years after this movie came out lol. Does anyone else believe in angels? I do!
The writers were not paying attention when doing this movie. Ranch says “Final game of the season.” Yet they were playing for the pennant. If they were playing for the division championship the season was already long over. I always took it as the writers/ directors didn’t want to do a time jump.
Also The white socks and angels don’t play in the same division So how’s this the western division championship? Maybe the ALC Also are we just gonna floss over how the angels beat the soxs in 3 previous games? To my knowledge every round is beat of 7 So are we to believe they beat them 3 straight already Or is the series tied? And did the angels help in the 3 previous wins ? If not Clearly the team didn’t need them
No it was. The pennantis the division championship and then it goes to the World Series after. The movie is very inaccurate. I honestly think they should have went 1 or 2 ways. 1 way would have been to focus on the World Series win. Ranch points out to George Knox “you won Ball Club but never got the big one.” In real life that would mean he never won the World Series. The second would have to put the Angels in the wild card game and make it about them going to the playoffs. They could have also did a time jump and made it clear that this was game 5 in the division round, which would be the championship game. The whole season just ending and the next game being the championship game made no sense
@@tylergagnon1613 I do remember at the time there was no Division Series Round until 1997 when the Rockies and the Marlins were the new expansion teams. There was no Wild Card round either until 2012 and how I know? My team was the first team to lose in a Wild Card Round. Infield Fly Bullcrap! Since this movie was created in 1992 or 1993, this was before the strike happened in 1994. At the time there was 2 divisions in each league. AL West, AL East, NL West, and NL East. Each team who wins their division goes to the Pennant round/Championship Series and then the World Series. It was much easier in one way and harder in another back then.
PHILLIES FAN HERE!!! Now that tonight is Game One of the World Series between the Phillies and the Astros, play this clip at 0:27 for a message for the Phillies!!
one thing they got wrong about this game: It couldn't have been the ALDS series because 1. They were playing the Chicago White Sox which hasn't been in the Western Division since 1968 so they wouldn't play them in a Division series unless the White Sox were the wild card team and they were seeded to play the Angels as a result but even if they were the wild card team they would have played the Division leader of their own division. 2. They were playing for the pennant, which by definition determines who plays in the World Series (whether National or American league) which would make this the ALCS series (American League Championship Series) not the ALDS (American League Division Series)
This movie was made right before MLB changed from two divisions in each league (East and West) to the current 3-division format. Back then, the White Sox were in the West along with the Angels. Also, the term pennant has been used frequently by announcers for Division Championships as well as the winner of the LCS.
I Do Believe in Winners And Championship
Ranch Wilder believed in neither winners nor even any championships.
If they decide to remake this movie again I hope they film it at Anaheim stadium instead of the Oakland coliseum

@@thenahum3603 nope

E seeing the shots of old Anaheim Stadium... and the lack of stadium continuity in the movie lol
George Knox thought of something so much better for Roger and JP; all the games, in baseball outfits.
Anaheim Stadium is also known as "sports heaven" and home of the California Angels, but it's all "sports hell" to Ranch Wilder.
Let’s take that championship

The writers dropped the ball on the sport of baseball ⚾.
Up until 1969, all you had to do to win the pennant was win your division. It made sense for the 1951 movie, but not for this 1994 remake.
