  • Here is audio from an excellent two hour and forty minute show by the British progressive rock band Yes from the Warfield Theatre in San Francisco, California on December 13, 1997.
This date on the 'Open Your Eyes' tour was a great concert but notable for Jon Anderson fumbling on the opening lyrics of "And You And I". The audience joins in to get him back on track and the song continues nicely without ever stopping.
Steve Howe also plays a solo piece called "Bareback" which he only performed one other time in Hamburg, Germany on the 1997-1998 'Open Your Eyes' tour. His second solo spot "Second Initial" was only played eight times on the 148 date 1997-1998 tour.
The song "From The Balcony" off the 'Open Your Eyes' album was played this evening which was one of only eight performances done on the last dates of the 43 date Fall 1997 North American Tour.
Another interesting addition was "Children Of Light" which made it onto the setlist after being recorded for the 'Keys To Ascension 2' project.
This is a pretty clear sounding audience recording. Taper notes are provided at bottom.
    VENUE SETTING
The Warfield Theatre opened May 13, 1922. The Warfield was built as a vaudeville and movie palace. All the big names in entertainment played on the Warfield stage including Marion McDonald from Gone with the Wind to Charlie Chaplin. Keeping with its illustrious past, the entertainment in the 1980s ranged from bands such as the Clash, Grateful Dead, and U2.
The interior is an ornate movie palace. The lobby features marble, guilt, and chandeliers, and opens to a grand staircase to the balcony. The main theater features a lyrical mural above the proscenium arch with images of floating matadors and their senoritas.

I was oh so lucky to catch this tour the following night (Sunday Night) @ a great venue called the San Jose Performing Arts Center in San Jose CA. Took the wife on a whim after watching a NY JETS game. We scalped an 11th row seat(s) on a perfect Balmy winter's night in Norcal. This would be my 6th of 10 YES concerts (1st & GREATEST on 2/16/74 for there TALES/CTTE show @ the Spectrum, Phila PA) and the BEST of my 6 YES shows in Nor. Cal. As you can see, it had a WONDERFUL set list w/ a perfect STARSHIP TROOPER close!!

I was at the Warfield watching Yes that night. I was very impressed with Igor Khoroshev as a worthy replacement for Rick Wakeman. What I remember the most from the night is that you could feel the ground rumbling from Chris Squir'es bass, and it wasn't because of any California seismic activity.

I also thought Khoroshev was a great choice when Wakeman bailed and have lots of respect for the job he did on the 1997 to 2000 Open Your Eyes, The Ladder and Masterworks tours. Here's the very first gig he had with Yes two months earlier than the Warfield show in Hartford: ua-cam.com/video/LLDn0yPGiIw/v-deo.html

I remember thinking to myself...why do they need this other guitar player?
