Looks like a drift pad to me, the circles are there so you can practice getting a perfect circle when powersliding. I've sent some irl versions. Edit: seen*
1st track: ok cool... 2nd track: Street X? Drift? Ok that's really cool... 3rd track: OMG NFS Most Wanted final escape scene? CANYONS? 4th track: OMG MORE CANYONS? Well played Black Box, well played...
The yellow circle area is called a skidpad, it is frequently used in real life for physics measurements and tire performance tests. I guess blackbox did similar tests. I have also used this technique with my own physics simulator and it actually helps a lot for physics tuning. It is recommended to use a wheel for this kind of tests, as the point of it is to measure G's and handling performance.
Oho, can't wait to possibly see Drift Of Fish from the Demos/Prototype Drift of Darko feels like downhill drifting and races were planned from the start
Damn.. the first track I believe was made purely to test out the physics of the game and probably to see how the cars react to different terrains and collisions. As for the other ones, it's anyone's guess as to whether those were removed/cut drift tracks. The last one especially makes me wonder whether or not canyons or at least drifting on them were actually going to be a thing for U1 but were later removed, because that right there is definitely a mountain road if I've seen one
JokerCR7 & Johnathantacosauce Definitely. The old ones have more replayabilty then the newer titles. The last 3 releases left me wanting more and sadly we didn’t get much more after release.
I remember hearing in the intro a driver talking about helping with the tuning of the cars in the game, those yellow circles may be where they tested grip and g force at different speeds for each car.
My theory on the yellow circles is that they have been there to test road reflections, and the buildings that are outside of the track to test environmental reflections.
For some reason, I imagine the third track ha cutscenes on that unconnected road uphill before the race starts on the circuit itself. Frankly, this type of track design fits Carbon more than the UG series.
The yellow circle is to test reflections on a vehicle, its a circle so whatever angle you are coming at, if the reflections look wrong on the car you can turn around quickly and go back through.
the yellow circle maybe is to test over-steering/under-steering in cars, so they can build the city with easier turns, instead of changing the car, they may built/modified the city based on their performance on the circle
Those tires 0:55 were definitely used to test car handling. By the way, could it be that this track coastal test track 7:54 actually uses textures from hot pursuit 2 from ps2?
I alreay know and played the first track but never noticed that the yellow circles are animated. I also know the second track from another video from underground 2-. I have never seen the third track before, very interesting! It does not really look like NFS Underground, more like Hot Pursuit 2 or something completely different. Maybe the track names like "Drift of Darko" were just there because the developers had fun :D I also have never seen the last one before. Looks like they used some kinds of this track in carbon.
It would be cool if we had a link to check out Drift of Fish and the last two tracks from this video in UG1, but there never are links in these kinds of videos, are there?
@@379Felipe I did, but I guess I overlooked that part. I was expressing my frustration with videos that show interesting things like these but don't leave any links for people to try for themselves (I'm still not getting over those videos with driveable UG1 and UG2 traffic cars, NFS prototype builds, etc.).
@@cannedbeverage7687 You can get the traffic car mod for UG1 and 2 on NFSCars, you just need an edited GlobalB file and a save. I've done it myself, they are customizable even with performance parts minus suspensions ones that lower their height. As for prototypes, there's sometimes some legalities behind that.
If you have a way of knowing the name of the missing textures I might be able to find the originals, I've got a decent texture database from another project
How to get the first test track using binary or vlt-ed??? As I have some mods on my game i dont want to replace my global file. But I would like to test cars (HD logos, Improved cars pack, extra traffic, extended customization)
0:40 It's possible to go past this invisible wall in a way? I have uploaded a video about playing this test track and could do it once but never reproduce it again.
I highly doubt IATMW2k11 is coming back. He stated he didnt like his older videos, he got tired of making theory and discovery videos, and that he wanted to focus on music production. He's a legend in the NFS YT community but we should respect his decisions, especially since he has done any harm, respects us the viewers, and kept his videos on his channels (unlisted but they're in a playlist). I think this is the same reason Speedyheart isnt around anymore either.
Can someone please tell me, in 2020, do I need to buy a physical copy of this game in order to play it on PC? If not, how do I go about getting my hands on this game?
the yellow circles are probably for car turning angle testing.
Yeah i thought so as well

Bryce Schug but this track was most likey for devs to test stuff so i think its a turning angle tester

Amazing, after all these years there are still some gems from earlier development hidden in there.
Sad thing is not that much people play those games anymore

My theory on the yellow circles is that they have been there to test road reflections, and the buildings that are outside of the track to test environmental reflections.
