I'm an instructor. I teach outside knee high. If in my class you want to go inside knee high, be my guest. I know that thought process behind both. Outside knee high keeps your team mates from bumping you out of cover. Inside knee high exposes less of you to incoming fire. Way I figure it, I'll explain the pros/cons of both and let the student decide, so long as there are no safety issues. My job is to educate, not win arguments with students. I just explain and let them run their own drill and fight their own fight. I do agree you should ease into a kneeling, for reasons Haley outlined. I happen to find both knees down the most comfortable, but that is personal preference. I have spent hours in a position in a knee, on concrete, and pretty quickly you start dancing from one knee to another to both, even in knee pads, because its uncomfortable - you should think about how to shoot from either.

100% agreed. I've taught for almost 30 years and weapons, techniques, tactics, etc, etc, are always evolving. It never stops and we have to move with it. I have my favorite instructors who made me who I am today but all of my instructors are part of me, not just my favorites. I am a product of them all. Awesome man. We gotta come together and this is a message for everyone regardless of knee position. The main lesson is that we are in the same boat and gotta be more together as a community. Thanks dude!
At one point in the GWOT, I was on a 90/30 schedule for a year. It always had an impact on me at how much the battlefield would change in just 30 days. So yes, always adapt and evolve your TTP's.
Damn... I needed to hear that. definitely facts. I'm just hoping my wife and I have enough time to get the tools and training we need before they make a move. i know we dont have much time but we just had a baby and were gonna do everything in our power to protect him. On a side note, because Magpul Dynamics Art of the Rifle is 15 years old, it would be awesome to make an updated series, not in name, but in content. Either posted on UA-cam or on DVD/digital download.
Outstanding message! As an FTO for a large Sheriff's Office, I ALWAYS tell my new recruits there are no absolutes on how to do things. Don't forget all you learned, just add to it and understand life as a cop (or life in general) is fluid and there is more than one way to skin a cat.
Travis makes such a good point at the end. If you're going into or assaulting/clearing a building against a decently trained and motivated opponent, I'd say the chance of being shot is above 80%. I've done significant amounts of force-on-force with above average military units, and even as a lone opposing force shooter in a room, 9/10 times I can put Simunition rounds on the first guy through a door, and 8/10 I can put them on the second guy through the door. And that's after they enter, not slowing down because the first guy was shot three times, and not even considering that they could literally be shot through the door were it real bullets. If they explosively breach or use flash bangs it honestly doesn't change the scenario that much, *if* the dude in the room is in an alert security posture. If you ever have a chance to do real deal force on force with Sims, or at least airsoft/paintball, do it. Set it up with your buddies out on public land or however you can. It is an eye opener for those who haven't been downrange when going up against a peer apex predator.
Oh my God. This was hands down the best tactical training video I have seen. It had nothing to do with taking a knee. However, I did learn a little something on that as well. It has everything thing to do with how we teach, train, learn, and communicate. Excellent video.
Snap shooting out the side of cover is extremely effective. Going over the top exposes you to every angle. Backing up from cover or concealment improves your angles of attack and visibility. This is paintball but I know applies universally.
How long has paintballing around and then ask yourself how long war and tactical gun fighting has been around. I can’t believe someone is bringing up paintballing which is 100% a replica and copy of real gun fighting and being tactical not to mention, you don’t die when you get shot with a paintball gun so a lot of those real life tactics get watered down even if getting hit with a paintball doesn’t feel great. Travis Haley actually enjoys paintballing with his son I believe so I’m not putting it down, there’s just a difference and they should not be compared IMO.
I’ve followed Travis for many years. The things I’ve learned are unmeasurable. But with that, I’ve surmised my own opinions and not all agree with Travis. What he is saying here is spot on. Thank you sir for what you do.
Every time you post a video like this I feel the need to unite with my fellow man, be more compassionate toward them, to be a better man in general and just so happen to learn a fee things about weapons manipulation. Thank you for all that you share, and I hope you know your voice is being heard and you are making a difference in people's lives.
Amazing to watch a warrior's mind being to share wisdom. Years ago i read a book that said that the greatest warriors all eventually become able to give philosophy due to warfare giving them deep insights into life. Glad to see Travis go that path i to warrior maturity
First half of this video is what I have always respected about you! One of my fondest training memories was working with you when I was able to get you and Magpul out to San Bernardino Co Sheriff in 2010. If this country were to go 1776 I would be proud to follow along with Patriots like you.
Exactly what we need. To put aside the petty things like brands or whatever it may be and get on board with one another. If we can’t even come together and firm a straight line than we’ve gotta step up and do better as the 2A community. Be proficient with your tools, get in good shape and help one another
I’m no warrior, but I do greatly enjoy listening to your videos. Not just the tactical knowledge, I definitely appreciate your life philosophy as well.
It's not about being a warrior, most of us are not by profession, nor were the majority of those who fought in the founding militia...that being said, the question you should ask yourself is not are you a warrior but rather are you a slave?....
Travis is the only content creator (of his caliber and credentials) who is saying what needs to be said about the current political situation. I can’t tell you how many “special forces” content creators I’ve watched and I honestly couldn’t tell you where they stand on, let’s just say who the real enemy is. Thank you Mr Haley.
@@HaleyStrategicPartners Travis, if you care about integrity, I think you should correct the horrendous falsehood you put out to your impressionable old audience. Here’s what was actually said at WEF: “…by 2023, we will reduce the number of people in the world *that cannot afford our medicines* by 50%. I think today, this dream is becoming reality.”
What a video, that speech brought back the encouragement I found to start teaching new shooters a few years ago. This is what the 2A community is about!
the only absolute in a gun fight is to win & sometimes a win means you retreat! the experience of being shot at , or someone trying to kill you , if you survive , puts you in a mindset that will drive you to never want to experience it ever again!!!
Well said by the man himself. I like the idea of choosing TTPs that increase survivability and effectiveness instead of being worried about dying in a more convenient location.
Great to see you back sharing skills with the public! And even more importantly putting it in the context of where we are as a nation and preaching unity.
As an Instructor for 20+ years, I always remind my students that I am a student as well. There is no "absolute" technique simply because every human body is different, moves different, has physical limitations. Certainly after left hip rebuild, right knee replacement, and right ankle fusion........my body is definitely different. I've had to adapt my teaching style and techniques to my own limited range of motion. Younger AI's are great teaching tandems to bounce demonstrations off of and won't short change your class. This "Community" is loyal to a fault at times to where we are constantly waiting to find issues to critique. Rather, unless something is outright dangerous, we should be brainstorming ideas off each other. You only have limited space in YOUR personal "Toolbox", so take what works for you and share the rest with others so they can do the same. FFS, especially recently, we are proving to be our own enemies.
Even though Haley doesn't like constrained thinking, IMO that perspective should be kept as an "advanced" concept. In college you are taught to accept the facts given to you as truths. When you enter post graduate work you are told to question everything. The reason is that questioning means to gauge pros and cons, and as a novice you cannot accurately do this especially if you don't have any real world experience to back your logic. This makes things very confusing for newbies like first gun owners who want to start training but get overwhelmed with a bunch of different things and they may not focus on stuff that matters. Like newbies should be told to test and don't look at things as single solutions, but they should be given a generic solution first, and alternatives only when it doesn't end up working. And often things don't work not because they can't work, but because someone hasn't had enough practice to do it well yet. Like people want instructors to tell them what to do and what their personal opinion is. That's why they signed up for a class. (Well there are people who get insulted if an instructor tells them to do something, but those people aren't there to learn like everyone else). That's why people often want instructors to shoot their gun or look at their loadout and junk. The pros and cons can come later, but people should be given a hard foundation to treat as fundamentals to start with.
Thanks Travis. I had one of your older videos that came as a extra of something that I purchased. Makes me mad that I lost it. Been watching your videos ever since.
Spot on! Enough with the petty shit, let's focus on the important things, ..like sticking together for one. What we have is fragile enough without ridiculous bickering.
Great vid. I've done outside knee down with great efficiency minimizing exposure and that's my go to. I've also done both knees down behind minimal coverage and switching shoulders and shooting positions from left to right. I believe that shows how flexible you can be with mobility, adaptability, knowledge and good training. 👍
Absolutely agree, retired leo 28 yrs, swat, swat instructor 11yrs, your concept is what we taught and how I performed as a point man. Actually thought you were gonna go into changing levels. From that kneeling position you showed I can enter room once I've taken it from that position.

At one point in the GWOT, I was on a 90/30 schedule for a year. It always had an impact on me at how much the battlefield would change in just 30 days.
So yes, always adapt and evolve your TTP's.
brother your words fill me with pride. thank you man. we're all in this together.
Travis is one of the most underrated Former Sf guys out here.
Damn... I needed to hear that. definitely facts. I'm just hoping my wife and I have enough time to get the tools and training we need before they make a move. i know we dont have much time but we just had a baby and were gonna do everything in our power to protect him. Good luck to the ones with pure hearts and good intentions.
Always great to hear Travis share knowledge. Thank you for the reset, Travis and Company
🙏🙏🙏
On a side note, because Magpul Dynamics Art of the Rifle is 15 years old, it would be awesome to make an updated series, not in name, but in content. Either posted on UA-cam or on DVD/digital download.
More people need to hear what you said. We are in trouble. United we stand. Divided we fall.
To many “ know it all “ period. We are to divide to meet middle ground. Thank you addressing and sharing your experience.
Outstanding message! As an FTO for a large Sheriff's Office, I ALWAYS tell my new recruits there are no absolutes on how to do things. Don't forget all you learned, just add to it and understand life as a cop (or life in general) is fluid and there is more than one way to skin a cat.
Thanks Travis. I 💯 agree with your rant. People need to wake up and join together instead of fighting over dumb things.
Love the intro, that's solid life advice that everyone on the planet really needs to be taught.
Such an excellent entry speech into all of this. We are it guys. God help us all
So happy that u hit on reality points in life and not bs ur way through it
What an incredible 21 minutes of instruction and philosophy! Thank you!!
This point of view i miss so often, both online and in real life! Thanks for that.
I think the entire 2A community needs to hear and embrace this message, thank you for standing tall and speakign the truth Travis!! I appreciate you!
Destroying the basis of common enemy intimacy is the actual point of the video, and I appreciate that.
Man, thank you for this. The community needs to hear it.
I appreciate the rant in the beginning because I 100% agree about our global and local problems.
Glad I found this channel first 5 minutes had me hooked awesome to see someone not afraid of the truth and willing to speak it .
Pro paintball players have been doing this forever. I’m glad to see it being using in the tactical space
Snap shooting out the side of cover is extremely effective. Going over the top exposes you to every angle. Backing up from cover or concealment improves your angles of attack and visibility. This is paintball but I know applies universally.
@Riorozen Paintballers have a fear of getting hit. Paintballs are not a tickle
@@AR-vd3pb In real life, if you get shot, you might die and there is no respawns.
PAINTBALL IS. CALLED TRAINING … GO HIT A PIPE BOYS …WANNBE EXPERTS BLOW
Well said, there are much bigger events happening. Let’s focus on the real fight. The fight against the complete loss of freedom!!
"We must all hang together, or we will surely hang separately."- Ben Franklin
I’m definitely not a slave. During these times, when our liberties have been severely eroded, I will chose to die a free man.
Love the thoughtfulness of Mr. Haley, few sources of knowledge from experience exist today. Invaluable source here!
I’ve been watching you for 12 years. U continue to show me how savage you are and the line u stand on to protect. Keep stacking
Hey man, lot of respect for you! More people in our industry need to hear this message.
You’ve been dropping some hard truth bombs lately. Thank you. more people need to see what’s happening
Bombs away
@@HaleyStrategicPartners Travis, if you care about integrity, I think you should correct the horrendous falsehood you put out to your impressionable old audience. Here’s what was actually said at WEF:
“…by 2023, we will reduce the number of people in the world *that cannot afford our medicines* by 50%. I think today, this dream is becoming reality.”
I've known OF Travis for 20 years....but the MONOLOUGE in these latest videos are rooted in TRUTH.
Based.
What a video, that speech brought back the encouragement I found to start teaching new shooters a few years ago.
This is what the 2A community is about!
🙏🙏🙏
the only absolute in a gun fight is to win & sometimes a win means you retreat! the experience of being shot at , or someone trying to kill you , if you survive , puts you in a mindset that will drive you to never want to experience it ever again!!!
Well said by the man himself. I like the idea of choosing TTPs that increase survivability and effectiveness instead of being worried about dying in a more convenient location.
Great to see you back sharing skills with the public! And even more importantly putting it in the context of where we are as a nation and preaching unity.
Just like your classes, sometimes about shooting, always about life. Well done.
Only if everyone was like this man right here. Absolutely love watching your videos and pep talks.
Bravo, well said. Thank you for speaking about the actual world we are living through
YOU'RE ON TARGET!! God bless the Patriots!!
Absolute respect to you Haley for this response. Im more weary to distractions in media now, we have more in common than were led to believe.
Absolutely. Thanks man!. There are some ignorant fools out there. I hope this finds someone.
Thank you for being who you are and sharing your knowledge.
Thnx for sharing your knowledge and experience Travis through the years
Indeed.
Slow n Smooth Smooth is Fast
Cheers
Thank you Travis, for telling it like it is!
I will watch Haley from this day forward... Thank you.
Thanks for tuning in
Thank you for putting some of these facts out that most who have such a huge platform are unwilling to say
Amen , brother!
I appreciate your work sir!
You bring the pain every day. As it needs to be. Stay frosty.
This is the best video on UA-cam. Thank you.
This is the way. Thank you for speaking out again!
This is the way
Sudden feeling that this is the kind of President the USA needs.
Damn great video Travis, thannk you!
I've never really watched yo before man but the first 10 minutes of the video summed up so much of what I have thought for a while. Keep it up man thank you.
Thanks for tuning in
