While I did suck when I was still during the expose part of it, I got the hang of it when I had to continuously reproduce speech/writing. UA-cam helps in getting the listening experience and it gives you insight in how a language is spoken (descriptive exposure rather than prescriptive exposure). This did clash with the subject during secondary school, but you get used to it. My point is: You are right and it eases you before getting into the nitty-gritty of the language.

If want to continue learning get a genki 1 textbook with the respective genki 1 workbook and then watch a UA-cam study guide and you'll be set. Make sure to get the 3rd edition and to get it off of refurbished amazon to save money
