A Supergroup of Avi Kaplan, Tim Foust, Geoff Castelucci called the Bass Boys or something ridiculous like that. I'm so in for that. Any reasons why this couldn't be a thing?
@@professionalvampire1 I agree, no speakers could handle that much awesomeness at one time....although i wouldn't turn down and all bass trio, if it had all our bass boys in it!
They pulled a "double Geoff" here, prerecorded his bass line then had him sing lead as well. They did the same in their version of "Baby It's Cold Outside"
@@bradywebster3493 yeah it does, they either use a prerecorded bass track of Geoff or one of the other members (probably Eli if they did it) sang bass. It was AMAZING at the Ohio concert!
@@jasenyoface7555 I'm surprised you didn't notice the guys neck snap when the dubstep happened with the LED lights. Which is my favorite part of this whole song 😱
Their "Boy Bands in 5 Minutes" is more of a showcase of everyone's true voices, and is fun and shows off the group as well. It's definitely worth a look.
If you are interested, the main singer in this video, Geoff Castellucci, has a video on UA-cam where he explains how he does subharmonic notes and give examples.
Check out their cover of “Bridge Over Troubled Water” to hear their “normal” voices. Also, watch this one again, and listen closely right after “to add a little spice.” That low warble is also Geoff’s voice!
Dennis Kovacich I’ve listened to this version of the song many, many, many times and watching this reaction was the first time I ever noticed it and now I’m hopelessly obsessed with it
Their Moana Medley is a really great showcase of voices and they accomplish some absolutely nutty dynamics that you'd enjoy. Geoff further cements his legacy as an inhuman bass, and every person gets a character voice/solo.
I recommended this because it does feature the Geoff (the Bass). If you want to hear the rest of the group here are a few I'd recommend: 'Queen in 5 minutes', 'Sh-Boom' (remake of an oldie) 'Moana' (or any of the songs they did with Rachel Potter). Also, Geoff release a video a couple months ago explaining techniques he & Tim Foust (Bass from Home Free) use to hit the really low notes. This is worth watching: ua-cam.com/video/XKLaYGHJoJM/v-deo.html
Voiceplay, unlike many other a capella groups, puts on a full production. I regard them as performers and not just singers. Costume, lighting, make-up and set and all of them get right into character to sing the parts. I think these guys could do a full musical movie and play the parts as well as sing all the songs with no problem at all.
I love Voiceplay! I saw them live, shortly before this video was released last October. They're all incredible! And yes, that is definitely Geoff's voice. I got to talk to him a bit too and his voice is rather low just speaking as well haha.
Oh yeah, so glad you found these guys, you're in for a treat! Some videos I think you'd like are their Boy Bands in 5 min, Queen in 5 min, and their Panic in 4 Minutes video
Your reaction knocked me out! And from a North Carolina guy, too. I'm in Durham. Enjoying your channel. Glad to know someone else has caught a cappella fever. Next, try Citizen Queen, female group that I read was put together by Pentatonix's Scott Hoying. CQ is touring with Pentatonix.
Welcome to the bass world (that last note was a subharmonic ) you should listen to voiceplay warrior and some of thare ACA top 10 80s cartoon theme songs or can't help falling in love
Omg! You reacted!!! Thank you so much!!! Also love the jaw drop on the last note. Believe it of not I swear several people don't even register it as a note!
To answer your questions, yes he always speaks in a G2 which is as low as most people can go if they tried their best, his name is Geoff Castellucci and yes he has ungodly range... And yes I envy the shit out of him.
The guy with the light on his noise is supposed to be Zero, Jack Skellington’s dog. The other three are Lock, Shock, and Barrel (who have higher voices since they are children). The main guy is playing Oogie Boogie. In the movie, L, S, and B kidnap Santa and send him to Oogie. This is where Oogie messes with Santa before he plans to kill him. Such a great movie 😁
This song showcases Geoff's range, but all five of these guys are amazing! Eli Jacobson (the bald tenor) also has an impressive range. His voice isn't as powerful as Geoff's, but they say he covers the bass line when Geoff solos. There are lots of good VP suggestions in this thread, but I'm a sucker for Doo Wop...and VP's cover of "Sh-Boom" ( ua-cam.com/video/x5j8DfLbwjE/v-deo.html ) is excellent. Like the original (1954) by The Chords, it focuses on the higher voices. My granddaughters (ages 2 and 6) are also hooked on VP! Their favorites are the "Moana" and "Frozen 2" medleys and anything else related to Disney. - Richard -
Yup, he is another sick bass. There are bass compilation videos out there between him, Avi, and Tim Foust. He even has a video or two explaining how to sing low. Do your research when you have the chance. This group is awesome too. I could do a road trip playlist with Voiceplay, Pentatonix, and Home Free and be happy for a very long drive.
I love watching folks react to this group, and just certain acapella groups in general, for the first time. It's great seeing them getting blown away that first time XD
Yay! Love it! Your faces were priceless Haha. I've been obsessed with Voiceplay lately so if I had to recommend any it'd be either their 21 Pilots Mashup, Can't Help Falling in Love, or Boy Bands in 5 Minutes. I mean, I'd suggest every song but you've got a life too :p. Awesome reaction!
Hey, I've been a Voiceplay fan for years and the truth is: we kinda bullied them into giving Geoff (bass singer) the main part in a song 😂 Also of course we love the low notes, but my favorite part of their video was at 4:52 in this one. So subtle yet so effective. I was at lunch when the premier for it started. I had no idea what I was in for.
Very true! Kate Lott's soprano is a thing of legend. Although...the bass is nothing to sneeze at either, and EJ's tenor is also quite impressive. Hell, the whole group is amazing! There are times, especially in the "Great Movie Medley", where they sound like an orchestra.
I love reactions to the amazingness of VoicePlay, and hey, one from a fellow North Carolinian, right? If you want to react to some more of theirs, I'd definitely say "Queen in 5 Minutes," "Sh-Boom," and "Warriors" are some great ones, that I think really show off all of their incredible abilities.
Yesss!! I requested this song on your last PTX video!!! Thanks for doing it!! I loved your reaction to the low note at the end haha. By the way, they also have performed this song live before so there’s no trickery lol
Check out Geoff Castelucci's UA-cam channel. He has posted two videos on how to sing low. He also reads "The Raven" and "The Night Before Christmas". Their Moana mashup introduces each singer and they each take the lead for a while.
If you like their character stuff they did, check out the other song from Nightmare before christmas, and also grim grinning ghosts. Both are super fun and catchy!
I love singing along with Geoff in these reactions, and hearing everyone freak out about his low notes. Makes me feel accomplished, even if I don’t have the Subharmonics😂
That’s the actual reaction I’ve been searching for Every other reactors only realise geoff having a low voice but not noticing how awesome it is to have a relatively high range Also the last note is E1 subharmonic which is insane that blown me up too
I don't know that Voice Play is quite at the same level as Home Free or Pentatonix, but they have some great music. Geoff did a video giving the basics of the techniques for hitting low notes like that. That doesn't mean you'll be able to and probably shouldn't try without some professional voice coaching, but it is interesting. They obviously had fun with this. Oh and singing in those character voices is a lot harder than it seems. If you haven't already heard it, you might enjoy reacting to Disturbed's cover of Sound of Silence. It's a good contrast to the Pentatonix version.
Yea voice play is hit n miss for me.. Not everything they do is consistently great like pentatonix and home free but they definitely do have some good ones!
Hands down, it's hard to go wrong with them. And their bassman is... beyond epic. I should know his name... and all of their names, honestly, but honestly the entire group is magnificent. If I had to suggest one song, it would be their Queen medley. A second song would be the massive quarantine collaboration they did recently of Just Sing. But really, almost anything they've done, they've done well. I'm quite partial to their Part Work videos... a bit more stripped-down, but that is honestly just to let the voices do their work. Either way, welcome to Voiceplay! I know you'll have fun.
I've watched through your channel and I like your approach and engagement. One of the better reaction channels that I've seen. You said in your Sound of Silence video that you want to broaden your music reactions. I'd recommend Upchurch. He has hit the billboards for rock, country and rap. Very talented!
Panic in 3 minutes part 1, or Billie Eilish in 3 minutes by them show off Geoff (bass) and or Layne's (vocal percussion) composing, as well as featuring all the guys styles of singing. I love VoicePlay
If you want to hear Geoff talking he has his own channel. There are 3 where he talks a lot, two "how to sing low" and one about making arrangements. And yes, it's low and amazing.
please do voiceplay's version of tennessee whiskey!!! glad you're enjoying so much acapella, i've come to find that i enjoy it more, it really shows a group or artists true vocal talent without all the extra added post-production!! also check out Voctave's "Poor Unfortunate souls/I put a spell on you"!! What? You love metal and acappella. I have found my home. I am loving these videos. Never thought I’d meet another human with my weird taste in music. Your reactions are awesome!
Their Frozen 2 medley, boy bands in 5 minutes, top hits of 2019, Sh-Boom, Can’t Help Falling in Love, Queen in 5 minutes, Mr. Blue Sky, Moana medley are all phenomenal
This blew my mind the first time i heard it, i dont want to sound cocky or anything but im a pretty low bass too (not at the level of geoff with his subharmonic notes) i can hit the low notes in elvira from home free ft. The oak ridge boys (a really good song) but my voice is not that good so i never really thought of doing anything with music but now i really want too and develop my voice but i don't have the courage too do so...
Despite who is out there now, I've always felt that those who can sing accapella are the best singers, because they can't hide mistakes in their voices, like those who just put out studio music, or auto tune everything! Since I used to sing bass in school, Tim,Avi, and Geoff, are three of my favorites out today!
Yeah he has a crazy range and an incrrdible voice quality. He could do musical theatre, honestly. And he sounds so good... This guy is out of this world for sure
Oh yeah! They do such an amazing job. You have to see this movie. One of my favorite movie about Halloween and Christmas. My kids watched it hundreds of time and so did I. 🤗
Love it when someone appreciates that last note! Geoff (pronounced "Jeff") is awesome. And a nice guy too, I know someone who knows him, and he and the group have done live chats, and they just seem so nice! BUT! On to more important matters! In all seriousness, go NOW and listen (with the best headphones possible) to their latest cover, "Warriors" by Imagine Dragons. There isn't a Voiceplay video or song I wholly dislike, but I think that may be their best. Oh, and that "Doot doot doot" was ALL voice, they occasionally use autotune for spooky effects, but otherwise just voice, and in this latest vid, they do switch it up a bit, which is also really cool. Especially since Layne, their beatboxer (the guy with the red glowing nose in this video) shows off his mad multitasking skills! I look forward to watching you watch it, am subscribing just so I won't miss it (and because you appreciate good music)! Another good A Cappella artist I recommend is Peter Hollens. Check out his "Epic Handwashing Parody," you'll watch it more than once, I guarantee it (though probably not in one video.)
Admittedly, this one does little to display the voices of the rest of the group, but it certainly gets your attention. Their cover of Warriors is good and will get your blood pumping, while their medleys and mashups (as mentioned by other commenters) showcase the vocal talents of the other members. If you want a little education with your entertainment, check out their PartWork series; Geoff also has some masterclass videos up. Enjoy.
I have to hit that pedal tone with my euphonium but have only heard one other person, Dr. Charles Nelson, ( brother to Byron Nelson,) hit it in a piece we did called “Saul”. Very resonate and clear!! Dude, if you afford to get NMBC, let me know. I’ll send you a copy!

Saw the first video of you just a few minutes ago and it‘s pretty funny... after the first pentatonix reaction video i thought ‚it would be awesome if je just saw that or that video‘ and as i scrolled down to see more you‘ve already reacted to these videos in my head 😂 and i enjoy your reaction videos so much cause i reacted the same when i saw them the first time 🥰 so it‘s pretty awesome to see you like them as much as i do 🙌🏼

*internal screaming* geoff hit a B0 in warriors
Geoff Castelucci did a "how to sing low" tutorial video that you should watch, it's pretty awesome!
Despite who is out there now, I've always felt that those who can sing accapella are the best singers, because they can't hide mistakes in their voices, like those who just put out studio music, or auto tune everything! Since I used to sing bass in school, Tim,Avi, and Geoff, are three of my favorites out today!
1. Bridge over troubled water
2. Can't help falling in love with you
3. Panic at the disco (two videos)
4. Warriors
5. Moana medley
6. Queen medley

I personally am in love with their Billie Eyelash mashup
And keep in mind I don’t really listen to Billie
"This is Halloween" is another song by Voice Play with insane Bass notes that you should give a listen to.
"Is that just what he sounds like when he talks all the time?"
..........Yes.
"Is that what his voice normally sounds like when he talks?" Yes, yes it is. Just look at his youtube channel, Geoff Castellucci. I think
If you want to see them at their absolute best, check out VoicePlay's "Tennessee Whiskey." OMG.

Lol, I know exactly how to say his name, and I always think it in my mind as Gee-off
I had never heard this group before so thank you!!! I love Nightmare Before Christmas, but I had never heard this.
Enjoy.
Please, please, PLEASE listen to Queen in 5 minutes. Every One shines but Geoff’s bass range is ridiculous.
Thank you Richard!! :-) heh
Try their cover of "Can't help falling in love with you". It's brilliant and features almost everybody.
