- In this video we try to get this old 1970's Mack truck back running on its own so it can be shipped off to Haiti.. But nothing worth doing is ever easy...
Well, Wily, you gave it the ole Hoosier Spirit. Never give up. Keep on truckin'!
Man you're awesome highlight of my night is watching these
Thank you
I drove a cabover Mack rubbish truck years ago with that Maxidyne transmission, hi-lo-reverse on the little stick. The craziest thing was that I had all five speeds in reverse!
The boys on the back of the truck thought it was a hoot 😂
Boy, I can remember pumping the hand primer on my old Perkins diesel. I still have one of those old oil spouts as a wall hanger in my shop. I pierced many a can of Pennzoil with one back in the day.
this is now one of my favorite youtube channel 👍 i like wiley's videos and revival of old trucks and machines! definately a treat to watch
hank's channel is great but wiley needed his own!
this makes it perfect!
thank you for great videos!
👍👍
watching all the ways from 🇦🇬 love the show ...love these old trucks
Holy Crap. If that indeed was mfg in 77, I probable had a hand building that sucker. I started building Macks in Feb of 77 in Allentown, Pa. Did everything from mounting air horns, installing side windows, front and back windows, interior trim, grooming engines, installling engines, transmissions, etc, etc. Worked there 12 years. Great work years with a great bunch of guys. Miss those days.
What would be the odds of that. Thank you for sharing this
I love it when people bring theses old work horses come back to life it shows how far the industry has come from then to now
Thank you for Watching
Got a injection pump coming
The lift pump has the hand pump on it. There are two check valves that are likely stuck. Easy to pull apart and fix. Another easy check is remove the 8 bolts on the pump cover and make sure the plungers are moving. They may be stuck and the rack isn't actually moving.
That’s my next move
Thank you for watching
That is likely a "E6-300" (or 285) motor. 237 didn't have the intercooler. 2 stick 6 spd. Gives you 5 reverse gears. If you look at my channel I did headgaskets on a 237 I put in my 59 Mack. I had to unstick a few plungers in the injection pump from sitting for many years.
@@59Mack I will check it out
what he said wiley......
Try taking the cover off the injector pump and see if it's stuck. Owned many of these over the years and they served me well. The fuel pumps are very high pressure and have to have the right fuel pressure to run. The engine is a 237 high torque rise engine. Hope you keep trying the truck will run if the problems are fixed. Good luck.
hi Willy i love the old trucks you try to get started thanks for showing this video
Thank you and thanks for watching
Another great video of Wiley fighting with another dinosaur!
Lol
Hi Wily, I'm a retired Master mechanic of 45 years. You are on the right tract but I think that there's a problem in either the shutdown valve or the rack in the injector pump. You are going to have to take things apart and inspect. Wishing you GOOD VIBES on this one!!!
I talk to a man yesterday that said the same thing about the rack.
Thank you and thanks for watching
I notice on the shutdown valve the cable is worn shinier like its supposed to travele further, but it is not ...something to do with that shut down valve is hung up or skipped a setting or something
@@DontbeWily
So happy to see you now have your own channel Willey .
Thank you and
Thanks for watching
parfait je suis bien content de voir un papi qui connais bien la mecanique et particulierement ce camion bravo papi encore ..........................
There has to be a clog or restriction in the injector pump. Love video, Mr. Wiley.

These always remind me of Evel Keneivel from back in the 70's when Mack was sponsoring him. Saw him and his sons do the Parade to start the Annual CNE :-) Doing wheelies around the Macks as they went down the parade route. :-)
Thank you for sharing and

Wish you would come to GA. Lot of equipment to start my way. Love the content Wiley.
Hey wily. Look for those leaks on the rubber washers seals ect if they leak then i belive thats your problem. Great video's better than the spoon fed stuff on tv!! Keep them coming wily!! Thanks.
Thank you and thanks for watching
I watch you and hank congratulstion on your own youtube channel good content
Thank you.
Thanks for watching
I see a lot of comments saying plugged and blockages, but I also think it’s sucking air from that leaky line going from the lift pump to the injector pump, and probably other places as well
I am going to change that hose out and look for blockage.
Thanks for watching
Wily could you put my mind to ease and disconnect the kill switch and take the air filter out I just have a feeling It could be part of the problem. Nice dog make it your Mascot. I got faith in you brother. Great job.
Will do. Going back and keep trying
Thank you for watching
Enjoyed the video 📹 Wily. from your neighbors in Georgia.
Thanks you and thanks for watching
Injector pump for certain has an issue. I would still try n get that first injector loose and if no fuel at that one for certain wont be in any others.but yeah sumtingwong with mr.injector.snooky pa.keep going !!!💥🤟👍💥
I am afraid your right
Thanks for watching
It’s a tip turbin 300
just bend the oil hose and tie it with a small wire....then open the injector pump one by one from one to six and bleed each nozzel hose... we do this every other day...nice one
Good video again have you tried to put pressure in the fuel tank with the air hose I really enjoy watching your videos my friend be safe
Telling bad jokes as well!, that should been Hank’s lol
LOL
I know
Great video
Thank you
That transmission is called a duplex, when I drove an 87 DM I loved that you could get all 5 backing up. Maybe the valve is hung up at the shut down lever, the arm moves but the valve is stuck shut?
watching and we all laughing down hear in the jungle of west africa..we got loads of this old long nose macks
I would be very proud to be a wiley!!!
Thanks
Thanks for watching
Gd morning wiley from a subscriber in England really enjoying your vlogs
Yo wiley big big Fan here from LIVERPOOL UK❤
Thank you and thanks for watching
Love your content wily
great video
the rack in the injector pump is probably stuck if you remove the cover above the stop control you should ddbe able to move the rack back and forwards
Thanks for watching
That E6 Mack engine has the box on the side of the engine on the driver's side .
looks like a 285 or 300 Plus Mack ( Maxidyne) with the 2 stick 6 speed transmission. Always liked that transmission in a dump truck. You not only had 5 reverse gears ( came in handy to get a load of oversized limestone on some muddy jobsites .)
but you also take the compound stick ( hi/ low / reverse) put it neutral, engage your PTO & you had your choice of 5 gears in the main stick to raise the dump bed . Those ole 2 stick 6 speed Transmission's come in handy when you work in soft ground .
I'm going to say your right on the ratio , 4:17, Is what I was thinking too . Although I have seen 3:87 & 4:64 both in the R models . 4:17 was pretty common with the R models in my neck of the woods..
That's a Bosch Injector pump. Years ago We had a similar problem with a Bosch Pump on a 237 . Best I can remember My Pop had the pump rebuilt due to it had a couple of bad valves in it .
Keep up the great videos Wiley.
Mack
I kept saying E 3 or a 237 for some reason 237 would have probably had just a 5 speed.
I thought the 3 filters meant it was a 300. I have forgot some of what I thought I use to know about them but they are my favorite truck. Probably because I had 4-5 in my life
I hope it’s not the inj pump but we will find out
Thanks for the info and
thank you for watching
Wiley : you could get either a 5 speed or 6 speed with a 237 . Both great drivetrains . Y'all will get it figured out . Y'all keep up the great work.
Mack
Great channel
Thanks for watching
Love the channel. I'm afraid it's gonna need an injection pump unless that one is sucking air somewhere. Good luck. Hang in there you'll figure it out
Thanks for watching
Hey Wily, great video as always. There’s no doubt in my mind that you will get this truck running, the injector pump gotta have a stuck rack or valve in it. Is there a side cover you can take off to move it manually? Just my two cents, Eddie wheels 😬🧑🏻🦽👍 from NJ.
Thank you for the vote of confidence
May get a hammer.
Thank you for watching
Also if you could pull out and clean injectors..blow thru them ect that may work. you got blokage somewhere.
It sounds like it's doing the same thing my Allis Chalmers 940 wheel loader there might be a fuel filter right where the injection pump line runs into injection pump I ended up having my pump rebuild and mine works great I'm sure you don't want to do that awesome videos👍
No sir I don’t. I am going to piddle some more on it.
Thanks for watching
I graduated high school in 77 so me and you are bout the same age (64). I sure wish I could find me a R model to fix on. First truck I ever drove was a 78 R model much the same as that one. I lost my farm in 84 and the only thing I knew was equipment and drive a truck. Local logger hired me as I was starving and he felt sorry for me I guess. I noticed that so called heater that wasn't much to begin with. My shutters didn't work so I kept a piece of cardboard to cover the radiator. It's a shame that truck can't stay in the US...
I like the old R models too
Could you imagine find a driver
Thanks for watching
@@DontbeWily I would make a load with it just for old times sake...
Most Mack’s back then were 4:17 on 22 inch rubber or 3:87 or 3:65 on 20s maxitorque trans’s were direct drive
good puzzle video i would try undoing all the lines off the top of injection pump lift them up a touch in case there seated in tight and that would tell you if it the pump and not the lines, keep at it you'll get it , just a thought is air filter plug solid
I will check air filter never took it out
Thanks for watching
I love your videos, I feel like I can call you my friend, and you don’t even know I exist, because I’ve seen so many of your videos, not to mention all hanks “Hamilton, Ville farm“ videos, and when my day ends to where I can watch some TV that is all i watch. But on this one, I agree with you, I’d imagine the pump was wore out is why it was parked in the first place, now its wore out, and been sitting 20+ years its safe to say the pump has had it, like the rest of the truck has seen better days, it just didn’t make sense to spend that kinda money on rebuilding or replacing that pump, so that’s why she was parked in the first place. That could still be a good running engine though, and other good parts to be had, or to the person who’s looking for a project, it would probably make a good solid truck.
Thank you , It means a lot to me to hear this
I love the old R Mack’s Probably because I had one and they kept their body styles the same for a long time
It was hard for somebody to tell how old yours was
Thanks for watching
@@DontbeWily I have 5 old R model Mack tandem tractors my dad and I pulled a coal bucket (end dump tri-axle trailers) with, dad had this coal trucking company since he bought his first truck in March of 1979, a 1977 R model Mack in fact, 7 years before I was born. I started out driving one of the R models, but would drive my dads 359 Peterbuilt from time to time, and that spoiled me, so I saved up a real big down payment then bought myself a brand spanking new 2003 model Kenworth W900L and id drive it home loaded with coal, then wake up the next morning then drive it out to the high school i was attending at the time, then I’d go dump that then go drive 600+ miles hauling three more loads. We kept that going till dad died in march 2011. Now we operate out of Alaska and do pretty well.
Hey Wily if u can find injection pump rebuild videos for r model macks I bet they may educate you to the next simple fix like fuel screen locations etc
Going to search you tube
Thanks for watching
Make sure you put the old one back on Wiley after you start it keep it might need it again Them little pumps come in handy and 30 bucks is a lot to just leave on a truck that you ain’t gonna use
Thenn 0f course.. next day . Put it all back together.. then place it ba kk onto the oll Mack ~ truck..
Remember when these came out brand new. Seen them get shipped on flat cars like all over heavy duty truck makes.
😅maybe you should try new fuel filters sometimes when they sit for a long time, the filters gum up, which will allow some fuel to get through
Definitely. If your interested in seeing the progress of this mack go watch us on hamiltonvillefarm we are making progress
Thanks for watching
I think that the rail inside the injector pmp is stuck,i think if you take the front panel off the pump that you'll be able to move the rail
Thank you for watching
Check the overflow valve it regulates the pressure of fuel in this pump. Also, the rack rod maybe stuck in the shut off position. Did you check both fiber valves?Good luck .
I am going to try the fuel shut off thanks for watching
When you first crank it it does run for a few seconds then stops. It must have gotten a little fuel. I think this could indicate where where the problem is. I would say the injector pump is the problem. The mechanical parts of pump are probably okay. It's likely a seal. May be why it was parked. Take it off and check exteranl o rings. If that's not it take it a part and see. Also, I believe the priming pump has a cap at the base of the stem that you have to tighten down. I might suck air if that isn't screwed down. Any pin hole leak can let air into the fuel system.
Never fired on its own. I just got it to run on either. I think your right on the pump issue.
Thanks for watching
hej Wily j lov you video. from Denmark
It's either the kill switch, or the injector pump. I wonder if that kill switch can go farther back toward the rear when you were twisting it. Seems like there's a lot of slack in that cable. I'm not a mechanic either, but that's my two cents worth. I Enjoy your channel Wily! 👍😎 Keep up the great work.
Going to try kill switch
Thank you for watching
wiley new name is movie star kept up the good work get herrrr done
I thought I heard Jacob say “in is stop”. If so, “in” in the cab would be out on the cable at the pump.
I don't think Hank can help you on this one lol 😆
Thank you for your APPRECIATION to your subscribers
I would think the lifters is behind the long cover on the injector pump check if they are stuck.
Will do
Thanks for watching
Take a suitable pumping pump assembly. From other diesels. If the mount fits the size of the studs..
You da man wiley
Thank you
Pull the pump, and flow test it and pop test the injectors. Seems like something might be hung up in that pump. Also check every fitting seal ext in the fule system, could be sucking air somewhere.
Thanks and thanks for watching
wally I noticed the fuel line seemed to b dripping to, between the Primer and fuel line maybe enough for it not to run without help.
Going to replace that next and look at the shut off to make sure it’s open
Thank you for watching
u can put the primer lines together and bypass that primmer pump
Drove an old Mack pumper in the fire dept
he is lucky the batteries are strong
It may just have something gummed up in that pump the way that old fuel looked. but you already know that Wily. I hope you find some help if I knew more i would tell it.
Thank you and thanks for watching
You guys should have a rack In The back of the truck with the batteries already wired to each other and long jumpers for rigs that you guys are gonna just start and not drive. That will ave on the back ache for sure!
I actually had thought of something like that
Thanks for watching
Or boost boxes I have 1 and I love it. It's light weight but will start a 3208 Caterpillar motor easily.
Fix air leak on plunger for a start, Cracking the injector lines is correct, The hand pump isnt pushing pressure, another interim fix after that fixed but no flow at cracked injector lines is put a 12v electric fuel pump in line as the internal pump in injector pump may be unable to prime/dry/air locked or has failed
Going to change leaking fuel line and look a fuel shut off switch. May try the inline electric fuel pump.
Thanks for watching
@@DontbeWily Just a low pressure clacker pump you would use on a Petrol Carburettored car, also in my diesel I run 100:1 Diesel to 2 stroke oil to help keep the seals lubricated as modern diesel is "Drier" (Less sulpher, more enviro friendly" If the seals in the injector pump are dry maybe go 50/50 with a small amount of 2 stroke and diesel just to help seal shrunken seals and get it priming, Don't give up yet.
I forgot. Look for a screen mesh filter somewhere.
Don't keep cranking it dry but, even take off the lines and back feed the injector pump with a syringe (no needle) just to lube it. My vet doesnt give me funny looks any more, great for changing brake fluid, and power steering. Just suck it out of the reservoir then do it again in a week 90% of the crap is out. Do it yearly saves bleeding the brakes and fluid is cheap. A stripped Bleed nipple is no fun
Hi willy stu in uk 🇬🇧 England here should of un do all the injectors and primed up the fuel up to get through the injectors at a poss
Great try Wylie disconnect the cable to the shut and push forward more
I am going there next. Along with changing the leaking fuel line
Thanks for watching
Sounds almost like it could be a fuel pump shut off/ injector solenoid, worth checking into.
I am going to check the fuel shut off It’s manual in this one. Hopefully it’s stuck closed
Thank you for watching
It’s a e 6 tip turbine 285 hp. 237s were just turbo charged, if it has 24.5 tires it’s probably 4.17 if it’s 22.5 it’s 3.73 or 3.65
Looking at the air cleaner on that truck and it appears it might have spent some time in Canada.
I.. kn0ww it sounds like lotts of work & also looks a little difficult 2 take off .. but maybe try taking the whole injector ~ pump 0ff. Gi ing itt a complete g0 threww & even when u think everything looks 0kkayy ishh.. perhaps give it A good full day bath in Mystery marvel 0ill & 0ff / road Diesel ⛽️ & maybe a hint of sea f0amm..
Check out Hamiltonvillefarm channel. A video dropped today in injection pump
