Dude is on point. When I changed my water pump I used an impact driver. Press it on the same spot on edge and hit it once with impact and it spun off easily. Vehicle 2011 E150 w/230k

Use the compressor to clean the area. Hit it with some penetrating oil. Sat down, drank some water. Used your technique, came right off. Thanks!

I'm a professional mechanic and this is how I have always done it. All the special tools do is remove some skin off your hands, and gum up the heads of the water pump pulley bolts.
The trick is to make sure you hit it right on the edge of the fan clutch nut *in the direction of loosening rotation*
Not all of them share the same thread pitch so make sure and verify if yours is standard or reverse thread. Otherwise you will be tightening it 😵‍💫
