I hope to see you there!
I understand now why these aircrafts for this game is so expensive. The amount of detail is just insane.
Yup, each aircraft is much like an entirely new game sometimes :)
still kinda sucks that it creates such a high barrier to entry. you already need a flight stick and some form of headtracking or VR unless you want to manually move everything with KB. Everyone from the Arma 3 unit im in that flies aircraft won't touch this game because the modules are so expensive.
Oh well, that's their choice to make.
To me it's worth every cent because I just enjoy it so much :)
It's certainly an expensive hobby, but there's nothing quite like it imo 😅
The high prices make sense to me when you consider that the companies making them work on them for several years and put a lot of resources into them. At the end of the day they have to
1. Pay their developers
2. Still be profitable after the very long development phase so they can make more modules in the future and keep growing their business
@Mambo I mean I agree 100%. I only just upgraded my setup after taking a long break from the game and now Im steadily re-learning everything. Had previously knew how to fly the a-10c, f16, f/a18, f14 ka-50 and huey and racked up like 1200 hours and now I get to do it all over again with new flight stick and a better PC. I can't say I've invested the most in this game but once you're in you're hooked so I won't be stopping any time soon
But it is hard to sell the cost of it to other players. I just wish it was only somewhat more accessible so I can get my friends to play it lol
That's true. I feel like you have to have the flight sim bug in you to even dare to try to get into it which might be a lot to ask 😅
While very different, at least the new Microsoft Flight Sim is making flight sims a lot more accessible to new people :)
sooo much better than the ingame tutorial simple clean and no tests 10/10
Thanks, I'm glad you like it!
Simple, clean and to the point. Nicely done...
Thank you! That's what I was going for ;)
Thank you for the the simple, clean and so easy to understand tutorial, finally i am able to cold start the f-16 and take off after a few times.
I'm so glad I could help! Making my tutorials as simple and clean as possible is my goal so I'm glad you got that feeling from it. Thank you for watching!
Perfect. I watch a german youtuber tutorial and he need 19 mins. But he dont talk for alignment. Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for watching!
I try my best to keep my tutorials, short, concise, and to the point ;)
I just got this plane so this video is a huge help. Thank you for making this video on how to start up this plane. It’s like a freaking spaceship and I’m soooo excited to learn it
Very good and explanatory, I memorized the startup in 1 day
Good tip, nice job! I like in DCS a lot more worked and clickable stuff.
My first time with Viper was when I learn similar start up sequence via Falcon AF or BMS in beautiful F-16 Block 50 😁
That's awesome! Thank you for watching!
Thank you I was struggling with this a little bit. This game is really complex and takes time to get the hang of it.
Good video, nice and concise. I also didn't know about the HMD alignment! That's a good tip.
Thank you and thanks for watching!
And yeah, it's easy to miss but essential if you're using the HMCS. Otherwise things can be off by quite a bit :P
Man this is an excellent video short and precise. Thanks as it helped me a lot
Cheers!
That's so awesome! Glad it helped!
Thank you so much for watching!
Great video!
Thanks for all the information 🙏
Thank you for watching!!
This was quick and simple, so much better then other channels
Thank you so much! I'm happy to hear I'm able to help :)
Great Video, helped me a lot. Thank You!
Thanks for this awesome tutorial!!! I just love how easily it turns on the ground (compared to the skyhawk :D ). I wondered that I don't had to put flaps in the right position, or flip some more levers to takeoff. But I'll take that simpleness!
Thanks again!
Thank you for all the great and helpfull videos!!!
Really glad you find them helpful!
Thank you so much!
Excellent video!
Thank you!
Excellent vid. Thanks & cheers down Down Under. Red 😊
Subbed!! Love finding new DCS channels! High quality videos, looking forward to seeing more in the future!
.....that said, tomcat when? (Please I am so lost XD)
Thank you so much! Working on the next ones as we speak ;)
I actually don't own the Tomcat (I know, don't tell anyone) but I'm really interested in getting it soon and make videos on it!
Again, thank you!
Great video thanks so much!
Thanks! Thank you for watching!
Love the Viper content!
Thank you! Just giving the best aircraft the attention it deserves ;)
I think this is the best startup video I ever seen. Precise, you explain things many don't do and easy to understand
2 questions.
How do you move the knobs holding and dragging? Usually I have to move them with the mouse wheel rotating it
Second, how do you zoom in and out slowly? Is it something in your hotas, curves for the zoom axis or a unique "slow zoom" option that I never saw?
Thank you so much! I appreciate it a lot and very happy to hear I'm able to help!
1. You press and hold the left mouse button and drag your mouse upwads to move the knob up or downwards to move the knob down.
2. I zoom in and out using the zoom view axis which I bound to a physical slider on my HOTAS. One of my favorite things that my HOTAS enables me to do with its extra axis.
Nice video thank you !
Thank you for watching!
Thanks for this. I've been hesitating to jump into DCS because I really love the F-16 but have heard it's difficult to fly. MSFS has kept me going but I'm getting closer. I've just found your channel but feel like your videos could be the ones to help me make that jump!
That's awesome! And if you need any further help definitely get in touch with me!
I wouldn't call it difficult, just gotta practice and it'll all be fine.
Again, definitely let me know if you need more help!
F-16 is definitely not as "easy" to fly as the Hornet, but it's actually my first choice to recommend to people who are looking for a full fidelity module, and who haven't played DCS. Why? After flying most of the modern fly-by-wire fighters in the game, it seems like the cockpit layout/control logic makes the most sense to me, and is laid out in a way that is very usable without too many switches or buttons. Plus, it's so freakin cool! Go for it man! Just learn one thing at a time and the list of things you know will get bigger, and the list of things you don't know will get smaller.
I definitely agree with you!
While the Hornet is easier to control, the Viper is a lot more intuitive and user friendly in its systems in my opinion. Such a great aircraft!
@@MamboDCS Thats good to hear. I've loved the Viper since my childhood so it always had to be that one to start. I've bought it now and I'm loving every minute of it and with the videos you and the other guys produce its made learning the systems so much easier than reading pages of manuals
@@dangerzonedmo I finally bought it and I'm loving it. The content these guys put up is awesome and its good to learn bite size chunks that I can keep repeating until they're memorized before moving onto the next system
Thanks for the very good video
Thank you so much for watching it!!
Great video. Very simple and you explain it so well. Thanks
Thank you so much!
Glad you liked it!
thanks for the guide. I think you forgot to mention in your video how to turn on the wheel steering. :)
Thanks for the video and checklist!
When you reach the threshold of the runway, is the cross-wind indicated by the "vertical line/"O"" marking to the left of the Flight Path Marker? As pictured in the HUD at 8:02.
No 😅
That's the needle directing you towards your currently selected steerpoint. The pitot tube on the F-16 (the thing that measures the airflow aka your airspeed) only begins to show your speed to you at around 60 knots so it won't even be able to pick up winds below that speed :)
And hopefully you're not taking off with 60 knots winds 😂
The only way to know what the wind is like is listening to an ATIS (Automatic Terminal Information Service) or AWOS (Automatic Weather Observation System) which in DCS are rarely included by mission makers so what we usually do is just start running down the runway hoping for the best and adjusting our controls as needed :)
Thanks for clarifying that! I am used to flying the TBM 930 (and others) and had not heard of a cross wind indicator before. That would be a nice feature to have! Thanks again.
Hi Mambo! I've (hopefully only) one more question.
At 2:27 you say to uncage the SAI and bring it to the horizon, but when I roll the dial it stays a little below horizon - not level like yours.
Related, I'm using a mouse for clicking knobs and sometimes can't get the SAI to uncage. What mouse clicks should I be using? (I'm getting inconsistent results so assuming I'm using the mouse wrong.)
Thanks much for your help!
You need to right click and hold on it and while holding, drag your mouse upwards. After you bring it as close you can to the horizon, and the red flag goes away, you can make small adjustments with the scroll wheel up and down while placing the mouse on the knob. Bear in mind it doesn't need to be PERFECT, just get it pretty close and you'll be fine ;)
Thanks for watching my content and I'm happy to answer your questions!
Have fun flying!
@mambo do you what software do you use to film? And do you use track IR or VR?
I use head tracking and I record with OBS :)
Thanks!!
Thank you for watching!
great video thats first and second i have a question i have my hotas and vr set is it possible somehow to do everything in vr set as easily as you ? or i need to take it off evertime i cant find my mouse...
Saw your message on Discord and replied there :)
Thank you for watching!
Assetto Corsa pilots: What? How many DLCs do I need to buy? They are too expensive!
DCS: Hold my canopy
I didn't know about the HMCS alignment, thank you! Do you play with any graphics/visual mods?
Yeah, it's easy to miss! Glad you liked it!
I don't play with any visual mods 😅
Thanks for the guide. I have a different question. How did you made your trackir that stable? I always have some kind of shaking making clicking buttons sometimes very dificult.
Do you use IR tracking or face tracking?
Before I got actual head tracking from DelanClip (a great cheaper substitute to TrackIR) I used face tracking with a web cam and it was awful.
If you use actual head tracking, you probably need to add some smoothing which dampens small movements.
Feel free to contact me on Discord.
I'd love to chat with you and help you make your head tracking better :)
discord.com/invite/Wbe4RbN4V4
Before moving to VR, I used to have issues. Small things do a lot on TrackIR.
VR = bright room is better
TrackIR = dark room is better
And.... do not wear athletic wear. I would intermittently have tracking issues and couldn't figure it out. Come to find out, the Nike symbol on my shirt was reflective. 😂 check your TrackIR's field of view for reflective items. The comment about smoothing is absolutely correct too
How do you get the enable switch on the f-16?
turn on the MWS switch (on the left CMD panel)? sometimes i forgot and while i think i have things under control, in a sortie, i would get hit by a GRD or AA missile because i havent an audible Missile warning sound, is just me or this switch actually works, when i leave it off i dont hear the warnings, must be something else im not getting because the manual says it doesnt do nothing on block C
Yeah, that's unrelated to the RWR warnings 😅
The MWS system isn't included in the version of the F-16 we have in DCS (based on a USAF F-16CM Block 50) so the switch does nothing :)
I don't have L16 option for the XMT and I don't know why the HMD isn't working on the ground.
I'm pretty new to Discord, but when I join your server, there's only Rules and New Members channels. Are there other channels for discussing things?
Make sure to click on the green checkmark in the rules channel.
It'll then grant you access to the rest of the Discord :)
How did you align the HMCS? what control do you use to move the line? Thanks
To move the lines you place your line of sight as close as you can go the cross on the HUD, once you're happy, press and hold the "ENABLE switch". Once that's done, you'll go into the fine adjustment part of the alignment. To move the crosses then, you use the "Radar Cursor" switch, the same that you use to move your radar and targeting pod.
when im in the cockpit view how do i free look with my mouse in the cockpit?
What is the purpose of aligning the HCMS? What will happen if you don’t, because it seems to work anyway.
I’m sure NATO Falcon pilots would enjoy a refreshing course (albeit limited).
Ive got no XMT-L16 on mine just TNDL and SMDL
can we have a short vid on how to do up the kneeboard ?? Like, input this awesome checklist into the kneeboard. haha
There are plenty of these videos already available so I don't think it would make sense for me to do one 😅
But if there's a demand for that, maybe in the future :)
can i ask for a instructions in ur discord on how to do the KB ? nvm i go YT search myself
Of course, I'm always happy to help on my Discord :)
tnx for the information , what is the enable key when align the cross?
@mambodcs
Sorry for the late answer, it's called the "enable switch", make sure to bind it to a simple push button :)
Ground crews are fried from that radar 🥲🥲🥲
It's not deactivated by weight on wheels like the f18?
Do you know why my data link dont show me where the enemys is or the frindlys is do i have to do some other startupp
Either your alignment didn't finish properly or you forgot to turn on the MIDS LVT switch. Those are the most likely reasons :)
Ok thankyou very mutch
You have the cbu87/97 video? Everytime I use it it does not kill any vehicles.
I do not currently 😅
But I will in the near future :)
Do I still need to confirm the LAT/LONG after in the ICP after setting INS alignment to NORM?
They've changed it so many times between needing it and not needing it by now that I lost track unfortunately and can't remember...
If I remember correctly, you do now.
At the time of making the video you didn't need to, and I tested it back then.
Sorry for the confusion 😅
Any news on heatblur eurofighter as a uk person the raf have them was tempted for f18 for carrier but also like the viper jst watching videos at moment how long did it take you to learn the viper
Unfortunately not much news :/
Both the Hornet and Viper are great tho!
I think it took me just a couple months to really get comfortable with the Viper, but that's only because learning the Hornet first for a few months made it easier to get into the Viper afterwards
@@MamboDCS think I’m edging towards the hornet more campaigns and carrier ops then eurofighter when released
Sounds good, can't go wrong here, they're all great!
Sorry dumb question, where is the enable button when you do the alignment?
Does the game have a startup tutorial for the Viper when you purchase it?
how did you enable the nose while steering? i cant seem to find it
Somehow forgot to mention that 😅
Either bind it to any push button on your HOTAS or press 'S' on your keyboard :)
UPDATE: Realized battery was not on master.
I have a question about the altimeter instructions @ 2:15. This is my first time starting an aircraft in DCS. My altimeter reads 1500ALT (Cold and Dark mission selected).
Nothing changes when I push and hold left click to switch to electric altimeter. The toggle seitch moves, but the reading and altimeter just stays at PNEU and 1500.
Am I missing something?
Make sure you've followed all the prior steps correctly. It'll only let you switch to ELEC after the engine is fully started and the engine's generator is running :)
@@MamboDCS ...wow! You are fast.
Only way I know how 😉
I have a question: How do you enter a mission like this, where the Viper is off the runway and off cold?
Sometimes I'm curious as to how all these youtube videos start with the aircraft in a certain state, and I can't figure out how to start the same way.
Thanks!
I have an older video covering the basics of the mission editor that will probably help :)
ua-cam.com/video/oXhoFUA_jw0/v-deo.html
It's not my best work, but I think it'll have the information you're looking for
@@MamboDCS Thank you very much
At about 6:53 you state to set nose-wheel steering, but I don't see how you are doing that. Can you please tell?
My bad on missing that part!
It's done by pressing a HOTAS button called the Nosewheel Steering button.
You can bind it to any simple push button or use the default keyboard bind which is 'S'.
Sorry for missing that!
@@MamboDCS Thank you so much. You have nothing to apologize for...it's an excellent and very thorough set of instructions. I should have realized that I could lookup the keyboard buttons before troubling you with that question.
Wish I had the smooth moving view around the cockpit like you enjoy, though. I'm using the Thrustmaster T.Flight One HOTUS thumbstick to move around the cockpit - BUT IT IS VERY JERKY - not smooth at all like yours. Otherwise flight and other graphics are smooth - just the thumb-toggle is jerky and delayed.
I'm running a Dell 7740 laptop with decent 9th gen Xeon processor, 128GB of PC4-2666MHz DDR4 memory, plenty of M.2 2280 SSD and an NVIDIA RTX Quadro 4000 GPU with 4k monitor. Assume I should be able to maximize graphics with this setup. However... maybe I should try reducing those first to see if it fixes owing around the cockpit - but really think it's the thumb toggle.
Do I have to invest in a HUD to get that smooth moving view you enjoy?
CONTENT IDEA
I'll check to see if you have a video discussing the hardware and then settings you use/recommend - might be a good content video? FYI - I just joined your discord.
Thanks for understanding!
I just hate missing details in my guides as I aim for perfection haha.
For head tracking I use the DelanClip head tracker. Much more affordable than TrackIR which is usually people's go-to and works just as well as far as I know.
Very happy to have you in my Discord!
You can contact me over there and I'll be happy to share with you more information about DelanClip :)
And thanks for the idea!
Perhaps in the future I'll make a hardware-focused video ;)
Did I miss something or you didnt meantion anything about flaps? F16 dont need them while takeoff?
In the F-16 the flaps are directly linked to the gear handle (unless bypassed by an emergency switch), so when you raise the gear the flaps go up too
@@MamboDCS oh ok thanks. I was mostly fly mig29 so now I wanna try something a little more dificult
Manual page 79: DL switch as (N/I)
what is the enable switch? for hmcs??
It's a switch you need to bind to any simple push button. I covered it in the buttons binding section of the video, right after the intro :)
My data link isn't working it doesn't sow bandits or friendlies
1. Check your INS is fully aligned
2. Make sure your MIDS LVT switch is set to on
You should do a air to air combat
I definitely will at some point :)
do you use track ir?
I use something similar. It's called DelanClip and it's a MUCH better bang for the buck in my opinion
What’s the enable switch ?
It's a button you need to bind to your HOTAS or keyboard.
I mention it during the controls setup part of the video, right after the intro :)
how do you engage nose wheel steering?
Either bind it to a button on your HOTAS or use the default keyboard bind which should be set to 'S'
Hi Mambo! Thanks for the videos. I have an issue. I follow your instructions but at the end I get an OXY LOW light and the WARN flashing on my HUD. Any ideas? Thanks.
Thank you for watching!
My best guess is that you're not sealing the canopy all the way. Make sure you hold the canopy switch until its electrical motor stops, and then close the yellow latch.
If that's not the issue, you should probably take a look at your oxygen panel which is fwd of your avionics panel (where you turn the INS knob to align).
Feel free to join my Discord to contact me and I'd love to help and figure it out with you :)
discord.com/invite/Wbe4RbN4V4
what is the hmc alignmennt enable switch?
It's the ENABLE Switch - Depress ad shown in the controls setup part of this video :)
Should be 'Enter' on the keyboard by default.
Yeah man i realized it 😅 thanks for the answer, great content
That's great! Thank you so much and thanks for watching!
My game will not let me put the plane in idle single player, but will let me put it in idle in training. Any ideas?? I even bounded a selector on my stick
From the main menu go to settings and look for an option called "game mode" make sure that's turned off :)
@@MamboDCS I turned that off and got no success.
I'm afraid I don't know what it is then 😥
@Mambo I found the solution. I Uninstaller the game, deleted the DCS file in User saved games. Reinstalled the game and everything works now.
Happy to hear :))
i cant put my throttle to idle i checked my bindings tried switching buttons around and nothing worked
i turned the battery to main pwr and jet fuel switch to start 2 and the rpms did go up
I'm not sure what's the problem... Maybe something is overriding your inputs for DCS?
You can reach me on my Discord and I can try helping some time in a voice chat or something :)
@@MamboDCS thank you for the offer i ended up figuring it out tho through the dcs discord the problem was i had game mode on now it works fine thanks for making this tutorial :)
That's great! I would've not figured that out myself 😂
Thanks for watching!
I got stuck on the very last step, hoe do i turn on nose head steering?
In the video you just magically turn it on
Yes, sorry about that, somehow missed that 😅
By default it is set to 'S' on the keyboard and you can also bind it to any push button you'd like on your stick or throttle :)
@@MamboDCS thank you so much! Works now,
Happy to hear that!
Thank you so much for watching!
I was trying to start the f16 but some military officers couldn't stop shooting at it
I don't have L16 on my radar lol
Ukrainian pilots liked this
after set engine in 2 my rpm is not increasing hummmm
Did you turn in the battery?
@@MamboDCS yes i did and i was trying to play the mission option in the game, i did exact the same steps as you did :)
Hmmm, I'm not sure then. Maybe check in your game settings that "game mode" is turned off.
@@MamboDCS ty m8 will look into it because when i try (fast create mission) my hotas doesnt react as well, even after loading the profiles , but in multiplayer everything is fine
That does sound like that "game mode" option acting up :)
Your stores config explanation is incorrect, has nothing to do with what armament your using and everything to do with weight of the aircraft. You throw 4 120’s, 2 heaters and 3 externals on there and your gonna be in cat3
Totally makes sense, although I couldn't find any official explanations to what exactly classifies as CAT 1 and what's CAT 3 and after a very long time researching it all I got was mixed and somewhat contradicting explanations so I went with a general one 😅
Thanks for correcting me, I appreciate the feedback!
This Bird looks like it will be FAR easier than the Tomcat to fly.
It is, in my opinion :)
Tomcat is much easier in my opinion. It looks daunting but it’s much easier to start and operate.
@@jjsemperfi As someone that started on the F-14, I can honestly say that you don't know what you are talking about, and should probably lay off the Crayons.🤣
@@ligmasack9038 Haha. Seriously? Well, I find it easy as hell to start. And yes, I do eat crayons 🖍️
@@jjsemperfi Easy to start, not easy to fly; there is a BIG DIFFERENCE between "Stick/Rudder" vs. Fly-by-Wire; plus the F16 isn't going to try and kill you with a Flat-Spin or any of it random "Get Recked" options it likes to throw. i still love the F-14; but the F-16 is much easier to fly and operate.
Just write a script in python to do all this by clicking the enter button. Took some time get syntax correct however with all the new GPT A.I help it was not wery hard.
Thank you btw....
Uhm... even easier is to use the auto-start sequence already programmed into DCS.
Windows key and "home" button at the same time if i remember right. No scripting needed, sir. 😊
I haven't used it in forever, but i dont think it can do the hmcs alignment. You could autostart and do hmcs align steps after script runs.
So apparently you don’t do any of the pre-start and pre flight checks such as FLCS check, BIT test, digital backup flcs test, engine fire switch test, epu check or alarm warning system check.
In DCS you can take off without doing them so I just showed my way of starting it quickly.
I want to in the future make a video of a more realistic startup procedure that will include everything :)
Thank you for watching and for your feedback!
Remember me
Yes :)
damn they even got the fuzzy seat texture
