I’m 50 & have been a Tool fan since 93 & it always makes me smile seeing younger people discover them & get it 😉
I'll be 70 next month. Thanks to my son I'm a Tool fan since 2012. I saw them twice in concert. They did not disappoint.
@@ralphvillanueva512 my dad served in Vietnam. Had me in his late 40's. I'm in my early 30's. He thinks I'm a hippie.
I've been a tool fan for 12 years and it was this song that made that happen. Tool has been more than music for me ever since. Therapy and meditation only scratch the surface. I vividly remember the first time I heard it. Exactly what I needed to hear at the time. Now it's what I listen to when I greet the sun every morning.
I met a boy wearing Vans, 501s
And a dope Beastie tee, nipple rings
New tattoos that claimed that he
Was OGT, back from '92, from the first EP
You've got two years on me, but otherwise everything is exactly the same 👌
I’m 60 and love them. Killer band!
In my opinion they are the best band in human history. All four musicians are masters of their trade and the lyrics are just outstanding, every song.
Concur!!
Yeah, that’s EXACTLY how I and presumably many other people feel about Tool and their music. Well said
…or as Moe Ford succinctly put it: “concur!”
agree
In my opinion I can't even think of a Band who is remotely close to there talent. I have seen them in Concert many times.
@@josephroy7021 yeah, I agree, that’s why I said what I did too.
Don't count.
Don't measure.
Don't expect.
Let it wash over you. The parts important to you will sink in. It gets deeper with each listening.
"Everyone carries a shadow, and the less it is embodied in the individual's conscious life, the blacker and denser it is." Carl Jung
And you've only heard 2 songs. TOOL'S catalog has no weaknesses. You should start at the beginning and see how they've progressed over the years. This is the best way. Spiral Out.
Agreed!
Ænima is the best album
Listening to their evolution is blissful
Tool writes a story the be played in order.
Everyone is going to recommend so much. Just do the whole catalog please. I assure you it's worth it. They're my favorite band of all time. You don't have to go in order. Just pay attention to the years on the tracks to see their evolution. Theres mountains of information the Army will provide. For now, just feel it.
I'm all on the idea of doing the whole catalog
He's right.
I've seen some great music reaction channels that could build their viewer base on solely Tool reaction videos 🤜🏻
Yeah what they said !
A “citizen of the United States” is a civilly dead entity! Question everything!.
The whole catalogue would be a nice touch. You can’t go wrong with it.
you must listen to Lateralus. Both the song and the whole album.
When everyone in the comment section says to "spiral out," they are referring to a lyric in the song LATERALUS. It is an EPIC piece of art and should be on the short list. The Pro Shot video of Sober is a great choice too. I really enjoy watching people from all walks of life enjoy TOOL, their music is a gift to all.
Agreed! From her reaction I came to say Lateralus should definitely be one of the next couple songs if we are talking spiritual awakening, math, etc. lol
Actually the Spiral Out saying is reference to the Golden Spiral denoted in the Fibonacci sequencing of number which is expressed in quarter circle arcs in squares. Danny and Maynard but more specifically Danny believe heavily on numerical properties and compositions which is life. Sounds kookie but that belief in numbers is the main reason Danny can do on drums what other great drummers can’t. And that is why he can use 4 limbs simultaneously to create 4 different beats and rhythms. Spiral Out 🤘🏾
@@tonysoto8949 exactly. the whole song is about the golden spiral. and a masterpiece.
I highly recommend a cover of this song, its a group of kids from the O'Keefe Music Foundation and they do such an amazing job, especially for their age! its probably one of my fave covers I've heard in a very long time
I agree with this. The kids killed it in this cover.
There’s a stunning drum cover by Sina too. Really makes you appreciate Carey’s genius.
Yeah this is a must watch
@@thebigwool she is very goood at it
Ya, that is a fantastic performance
This song changed my life. I heard this at the lowest point in my life and the words of this song helped me find the purchase I needed to crawl up the cliff I had been clinging to. I evolved into a better version of myself and I’ve never stopped trying to right the ship, to be better…life is much better now and I give a lot of credit to these guys for the inspiration to make the effort.
I have that relationship with the song Refelction…listening to that song at my lowest points helped me see that light even in the darkness and now anytime one of my friends is feeing low I always recommend they listen to it and actually think about the lyrics
@@johnnykilljoy6011 Good. In meditation. Reflection is a channel.
I love the word “purchase” as you used it.
Amen..when in childhood our shadow is numbed, we endure a living Hell as we try to navigate life being only empathetic but never dark and fierce.
…but when we awaken, so does our shadow.
It’s a beautiful experience.
Great thing about Tool, is that it gets better and better every time you listen to it, it's just impossible to grasp everything in one listen.
The band is named "TOOL" because they wanted their music to be a device to better people's lives. 46&2 is talking about the chronosones. We are at 44 & 2 and that the next stage in evolution will be of consciousness
I heard it’s named after the tool shed in Adam’s backyard.
@@johnnyb6067 Lol look for their early interviews
Chromosomes
That explanation sounds a bit shallow, it doesn’t fit with their sense of humour at all. I heard they named the band after their fans, but that might be a rumour.
@@mm9773 How would they name their band after their fans if they didn't even have fans yet? LMAO you're gullible.
Now you have to hear the kids of the O'Keefe Music Foundation do it. 😁
You don’t listen to tool you experienced them. The journey changes as the time you listened to Tool changes and your perspectives change and will continue to metamorphoses thru your Tool & life’s journey. This old Metal head loves the journey that your going to experience as you discover more Tool. Rock On Stay Safe!🙏🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Oh hell yes. Can not wait for this.
If you want a totally different vibe from these guys "The Pot" can deliver
You’ll realize how different TOOL is from the rest. Imo the best of the best 💯
This and Third Eye were the 2 songs that got me into Tool.
Their videos are a distraction, always better to listen (headphones for sure). The shadow is Jung, the 46 & 2 are the anticipation of gaining 2 more chromosomes and evolving. This band is incredible musically and lyrically, and they leave it to you to interpret the meaning. Enjoy the ride, and spiral out!
Agreed, videos are no good. Unless you are watching them play live, or watching the visuals at the concert.
Agreed 100%
46and2, the diffence between us humans and the rest of the species of Earth. Showing that we're probably aliens to this planet. Check our Lloyd Pye for more on this concept.
@@Therault Yea, no thanks. That’s not what 46 and 2 means.
@@spiderbass65 That's exactly what it means. Straight from the horses' mouths; ua-cam.com/video/TKqDsVIlzQI/v-deo.html
It’s not just about rebirth. It’s about embracing the inner shadow and allowing it to enact the metamorphosis of the shell that you occupy.
I’d be interested in your take on my personal favorite Tool track “Schism”. It’s often overlooked when naming great tool songs, but I love it.
I'll check it out! :D
@@AileenSenpai schism is a banger, probably their most popular song next to 'the pot'.
If you want something more eclectic and strange check out 'Third Eye' if you want sad check out 'wings for marie and 10,000 days' (2 part song) its about the death of Maynard's mother who suffered with illnesses for 27 years, breaks me everytime
@@AileenSenpai don’t worry about the 40+time signature changes….lol oh and the message, of every tool song…
@@WookieWarriorz Sober is probably the most well known song
The bridge guitar riff in that songs is so heavy, I could just play that over and over again lol
The euphoric feeling you describe is well summed up by these lyrics from Lateralus:
"With my feet upon the ground
I lose myself between the sounds
And open wide to suck it in
I feel it move across my skin."
And a new Tool fan is born. Welcome to the rabbit hole. Their earlier music was rawer and more aggressive, and their sound became mellower and more sophisticated as time went by.
"I need my inhaler" lol. Tool does take your breathe away. They are frigging amazing!
So correct Aileen (Music for Adults). "We were wasted but even the cops were blown away!..."
As others have said, 46 & 2 is a reference to the number of chromosomes humans have... However, it's simply a metaphor for spiritual growth... Gaining two extra chromosomes would, in reality, most likely be pretty bad.
Welcome to this particular musical rabbit hole, I've been a Tool fan since I was 18, and I'm 46 now, and I've learned so much about myself from this bands music, and the paths I've chosen to find myself happily content with my life have been deeply influenced by Tool...
I would wholeheartedly recommend the song Parabol/Parabola - which has an amazing video - to react to next ☺️ That, in my opinion, is their greatest video. My favourite song is Lateralus, but that doesn't have a video.
Wishing you all the best ☺️
Lol. I'm also 46 but I found them at 16
Why? This type of evolution has already been proven. There are indigenous tribes such as the Aborigines in Australia and in places in South America that do not have 46. They only have 44.
It's a freaking masterpiece!
@@dannyberry8725 Not true. There are genetic conditions where someone has either too many or two few chromosomes, which is called aneuploidy. There are two common types of aneuploidy: monosomy and trisomy. People with monosomy are missing a chromosome. So, for a particular chromosome, only one is present instead of two. People with trisomy have an extra copy of one of their chromosomes. People with aneuploidy do not inherit the condition from their parents. The parents have a full set of chromosomes, but the chromosomes are unevenly distributed to their children. Down syndrome is probably the most well known form of aneuploidy, affecting trisomy 21. The idea that there are indigenous tribes with fewer chromosomes is bunk - at best - and potentially racist.
Having 48 chromosomes usually presents as 48,XXXY syndrome. and is a chromosomal condition in boys and men that causes intellectual disability, developmental delays, physical differences, and an inability to father biological children.
There are zero trustworthy sources to support the idea that tribal people only have 44 chromosomes.
I've been down some DEEP rabbit holes, (Atlantis and Thoth kinds of stuff) that talk about spiritual evolution causing physical evolution. Angels, demons, aliens, giants, etc are just beings who have transcended to multiple planes of existence.
Not that I actually believe it but it's still a fascinating idea and I feel the echoes in this song.
Welcome to the Tool rabbit hole haha. As a singer you'd appreciate their live performance of one of their early songs, Sober. Every member of Tool is incredible at their instrument, and Sober shows off the powerhouse performance that Maynard can bring with his voice. Spiral out, keep going!
I wrote that on the previous song and I was literally waiting to read any person say what you did, it's a Rabbitt Hole that can be a Nostrsdamus like Rabbitt Hole, 1993 lyrics mirroring 2023 life
I still have the original cds I bought in the 90s from tool !! Amazing and the greatest band ever
This song is about discovering your shadow self - our hidden self which we usually project and reflect onto others. Discovering your shadow is the only real path to self realisation and personal growth. It humbles your ego at every layer and hurts like a mfer. Spiral out people.
It took me _years_ to 'get' Tool - I liked their music, especially their radio tracks, but I never _understood_ it so I listened to it infrequently. One day at work I wanted to listen to something a bit different so I was inspired to listen to Tool's albums end-to-end (which is how I tend to consume all my music). After doing that for three or four times it suddenly click and I _got_ the music, and I've loved it ever since. I have friends, a couple of musicians included, who absolutely hate Tool... I can't help but feel sorry for them and what they are missing out on.
Whats their reason for disliking them?
The musicians hate them because they can't play it, period. I'm not trying to be a dick, but as a musician that covers Tool, I can tell you that it is one thing to sit in your room and learn some riffs, and quite a whole different experience and level to put that together with the other band members and perform it Live. I play the bass and sing at the same time, you can probably imagine how difficult Tool"s music is to pull off with 3 people. I have personally never seen any other band on the planet attempt their music with 3 people, it just doesn't happen, and it is for a reason.
Everyone who hates Tool says it sounds the same, but if you listen to each album,, there is absolutely no way a person can say the albums all sound the same. Does the music sound like Tool?Of course, its supposed to, they put their legacy and stamp on that s...t. Does Ed Sheeran sound like himself, of course, did Michael Jackson and Prince sound like themselves. It's so ridiculous when they say that, and they listen to Green Day (no disrespect but Green Day is horrible) and they don't hold their favorite bands to the same standard. It's that they can't play it that's why. They wouldn't know where to begin to even attempt to Play Tool, they think they play 1 riff or 2 here and there and think Tool is simple music or sounds the same, but they don't even have the balls to play it Live and even try to find a singer that can attempt his vocal delivery.
@@ricardomartinezxx I’m not trying to be a dick or anything, but I feel like a lot of the people that bash Tool, is because they don’t understand the lyrics.
“Don’t just call me a pessimist. Try and read between the lines.” -The Pot

Sister, I'm not sure I've ever seen someone new to Tool get the band and the vibe so clearly. Beautiful, euphoric, and yes, a little scary. Blessings to you on your sonic journey.🙏
Tool is in a category of their own. Their is no comparison. Great reaction!
Fear Inoculum is so great, I love that album.
But this one is great too 😉
Wouldn't recommend that album for a newbie to start listening to tool though because it has a very different style to all their other albums.

I've always loved how the bass and guitar tend to weave in and out of each other on this song!
I definitely suggest you listen to “The Patient” next. There are no bad TooL songs by the way. They are the greatest band of all time and that’s not stretching the truth. The lyrics and voice of Maynard and the way the boys play their instruments all together make them the goat. Great review I’m looking forward to the next video!!
The Patient is such an underrated song
@@jakecameron2976 Its a little different than their other songs in that era. Honestly originally thought it came off perfect circle as its more in that style.
@@rekrn12345 could have been what caused Maynard to decide to have 3 different bands. 3 different spectrums. I don't fit into one spectrum either.
You said exactly the same thing as I did after hearing them, there music is just like a roller coaster. That was back in ‘96. Good way to describe it!
Will always stand behind Tool is not heard, it is experienced. Been along for the whole ride and in a world of no favorites, Tool is the one thing that breaks that boundary for me. I know you are reacting but I implore ya to experience each track afterwards with good headphones and a dark room with eyes closed. It literally takes you on a different journey with each track.
deep
It does. Feeling so much more from their music as an HSP + Skullcandy headphones = Religious listening habits.
My favorite pastime is watching people discover tool for the first time. It only happens once.
I've seen them 107 times, 3 times in Jan 22... each time the show was an outer body experience. the Vegas show i actually broke down and balled the entire encore...
Wow I wish I could see them once.
Welcome to the Tool army and enjoy the ride 🤘🏻
Both cerebral and visceral; deeply contemplative and carnal.
Tool - “Right in Two” will take you in a trip.
This really is one of the greatest bands ever.
When they composed the masterpieces on Aenema: Adam was ~30 YO, Justin ~25 and Danny ~35. How these young guys could come up with this stuff - fricking amazing.
Tool is for people who really appreciate music. Casual listeners who listen to music just to have background noise won’t get tool.
Loved this reaction! It’s never too late to get into these guys. It’s so cool how Tool has evolved over time, but they have stayed true to their sound. Saw them back in 1992, and been loving their latest album Fear Incoculum. Fav is still the Lateralus album. Def check out that title track, total mathematical genius - Fibonacci sequence and stuff…
My favorite feature of this song are the jazzy bits, where Danny leaves out a kick where a kick was expected, the negative space and jazz being all about what they don't play (Adam also adds negative-space not-notes on occasion)
I just love the initial reaction, and then how the reactor then transitions to “wait what is happening” and then at least partially “getting it” them to then loving Tool. Nice reaction. Thank you
R.I.P Chef Boza , you would have been 46&2 ... Music brings people together ... I won't forget the day we rocked out to this song 🤘
I find it very refreshing when I see so many people from diverse musical backgrounds and channels coming in to experience TOOL. I like it even more when people “GET IT” !!! Thumbs up to you and your ability to understand …
TOOL is definitely an EXPERIENCE, welcome to the ride !!!
Wow, thank you!
Bingo!!!
This is a fantastic song, the layers within the sonics are amazingly beautiful! You will not be disappointed!
Tool takes time to really get into them. Once you do their music can be very emotional 👍
There is so much power in their music. A live show would be a very good experience
Other bands hit me in the feels, TOOL hits my intellect.
You're reactions are priceless. So awesome to watch. People like you are why I love reaction videos.
She said something very interesting about following.
Years ago, I attended a music college. Besides performing, they taught me about music theory and composition. Then I went to a concert (I think it was Mozart) and I could recognize some of the components of the composition. By the way, those classical composers were little rebels too. They broke every rule of composition and still managed to create magnificent music.
Imagine my surprise when I went to a Tool concert and heard 46 and 2 for the first. I couldn't follow anything. I couldn't recognize anything. It was all over the place. And yet, it all came together, somehow. That's what is so special about Tool. 46 and 2. Schism. Pneuma. 7empest. Invincible. Those are just a few of my favorite songs.
I fully take in long form expression. Can't stand to see such effort go unnoticed.
I’m strapped in with you for this beautiful ride! Spiral 🌀 out!
I think you are ready for
Tool- Lateralus 😎
I can relate to 10,000 days on a personal level having had a massive stroke over 1,500 days ago and left with hemi-paresis to my left side and now in an electric wheelchair, but so grateful and blessed to have lived and retrained and regained the ability to talk and swallow food and get to the point of regular food.
Watching another convert being born. This was the first song I heard from Tool when it first came over the radio. That day marks a distinction within my memory. A.S.26 (after spiral)
The grudge- tool will will blow you away 💯 and Rosetta stoned
its not hate or love, its either you understand them or you dont. they are exactly what the name says, they are a tool used to help you through what ever in life you are going through. which is why they cover such an infinite range of both music and subject matter within that music.
Probably been mentioned a ton already but Maynard(tool's vocalist) also provided vocals for his other band a perfect circle notable songs to check out in my opinion would be the package, Judith and pet
Welcome to the TOOL army, Aileen!
It's wonderful seeing a Tool fan being born. Your gonna thru so many emotions, thoughts, and refection. Enjoy the journey....cheers.
p.s. "3 Libras" hits deep. AND.... 46&2 cover by the O'Keefe kids is fucking fire.
The extra sound when he says “my shadow-ah” is called, you guessed it, a shadow vowel.
Hearing Tool songs for the first time, it is wise to let the songs determine the "rhythm", and don't rely on what you expect to hear =)
SPIRAL OUT! KEEP GOING!
The live version of "Sober" should definitely be your next one. Great performance and it's the only video with quality you'll find of them performing live (except "Pneuma" which you already reacted to and it's just focused on Danny). Apart from that never check out their videos on a first listen. They are utterly amazing and all of them were directed by Adam Jones, Tool's guitar player, who used to work in Hollywood as a special effects artist for big blockbuster movies (Terminator 2, Jurassic Park, etc.), but they're so distracting that it will most likely make you lose focus of the music. You should check their videos on your own free time once you've already listened to the song, unless you wanna do double reactions, first checking out the song and then checking out the video, but that will make some pretty long videos, since their songs range usually from 6min to 12min.
I must respectfully disagree.
While the live version is a good showcase for Maynard's passion, it does not capture the balance of sound achieved by the studio album version. The raw power is impressive, but the subtlety and nuance is lost in the live crowd.
@@michaeltaylor6118 I completely agree with you. My suggestion is just because that is actually the only live version of a Tool song worth watching. Tool is a great band to see live, but since they don't allow live recordings, that is basically the only chance she'll have here to watch one of their performances as a band.
The live remastered is damn near as good as the album version. And to me sober isn’t really that great of a song without seeing Maynard’s performance. Please don’t ruin Sober for this lady. We should all be encouraging the Live performance remastered version.

It's literally SO AMAZING to find someone who already understands exactly how I feel about Tool...

I love your reactions to this, only two songs in so far... this band shaped my life in many ways, SPIRAL OUT :)
Fun fact, the main riff of this song is done on bass, and was the first material Justin Chancellor bought to the band when he replaced Paul D'Amour in the band.
Tool also brought in David Bottrill to produce the Aenima, he doesn't get enough credit from Tool fans for pushing Tool onto their prog rock path.
Glad you liking tool just keep going down the rabbit hole and keep enjoying
Hi new subscription from the Tool Army :). I started my journey with this band 15 years ago with their 4Th album "10000 days" and they've always been with me since then. I do strongly recommend that you listen to the song "Vicarious"(the album version not the official video which is great but too distracting for a first time listening). This song is so in tune with the worldwide events we're now living through(war in Ukraine per say).Truely mindblowing(as every tool song)
Glad to welcome a new passenger 😉 get it! Been on board since 94ish.
I'm so pumped! 🙌🏼 👁 🧘🏻♂️ 🤘🏼
Also fun fact: the guitarist has synesthesia, he "sees" music as color. So I imagine he is in this band because they produce the most beautiful spectrums of color when they jam out.
They were my first ever concert, They first played Sober and then this, SO GOOD
Hey Aileen since you're getting into the tool rabbit hole you should look up 46 and 2 kids cover

so many amazing songs from these dudes. I think The Grudge may be one of my favorites. Such a unique band though.
Man, it’s always fun to see people go down the rabbit hole of TOOL. Speaking of Rabbit Holes, you should listen to Third Eye by them. Probably my favorite track of the Ænema album.

I mean, if you want to go right in and completely shatter your understanding of existence, might as well go all the way and listen to Lateralus and then Parabol/Parabola (2 songs that must be played together).
I have the Lateralus album as a playlist. Amazing from start to finish. Oooh I wonder if it loops well.
46 and 2 is the DNA double helix of DNA. The song is taking about evolving to the next level.
I’ve been a huge Tool fan since Undertow, but I love watching the first reactions such as yours. Reminds me how I felt when first got to hear them. The feelings you get I still experience, however the “freshness” of your response makes nostalgia flood. Thank you
Glad someone said that.
I'm sitting here in my streaming room.. lights off. spotify on, my Logitech g560 speakers at an insane level, speaker lights are flowing listening to Invincible crying my eyes out because my father is dying ... he's supposed to be invincible... This music is cathartic.. it helps me bleed the tears now, so I can be strong for my mom, my sister and my niece's when the end finally comes.... This is what Tool does to me... I tried to explain what a Tool concert was to my fiance... it wasn't until I took her to her 2nd one in Vegas in Jan 2022 to have her open her mind and see what it was I meant... listen, experience, feel.......
I remember the day this record came out. It was October of 1996 and I was a freshman in high school. I'd heard a couple TOOL songs before this, but this shit absolutely blew my mind. I was a young budding drummer and music nerd, and this shit cracked my universe wide open. 26 years later they are still my favorite band of all time.
Modern day Pink Floyd with a heavy metal edge is the way I think of Tool.
Lol, first heart rate monitor I've seen on a reaction channel, that's awesome.

also welcome to the family, try Lateralus or Vicarious next :)
So true. I can’t stand it when there are reactions to their official videos. It takes away from the entire listening experience.
On a first listen I can feel this. That being said the art of some of their videos, specifically Schism comes to mind, is really a companion to the music. If you've ever seen them live you know that visual presentation is a big part of their art.
@@6ic6ic6ic just to clarify I do completely agree with you that the music videos are a piece of art that should be seen & enjoyed but just not for music reaction videos (Ive seen too many reactors distracted by them & even put off diving further into the band because of them). I really hope to see them live one day in person (damn agoraphobia), anyway thanks for your reply :)
