The Best Scene in The Shadow 1994

- Опубліковано 26 чер 2011
- This is the absolute best and only reason why a person should watch The Shadow 1994. I have posted the video so you don't have to watch the whole movie to see it.
The Shadow Knows!
MAHAAAHAAAAA!
This character deserves better than fading into obscurity.
Renaissance Nerd or fading... back into the shadow...
He's not. DC just did a great pair of crossover series in the last two years - Batman/The Shadow and The Shadow/Batman. EXCELLENT stories!
Spoiler:
The Shadow reveals one of his identities was Henry Ducard, meaning The Shadow actually trained Batman himself. Awesome twist!
@@RetroMaticGamer So those are two separate series? Which comes first? I'd like to read them.
@@RetroMaticGamer shadow often takes and steals identities.
Bruce is nothing in front of him.
@@RetroMaticGamer Sick and tired of Batman, I prefer the Shadow solo.
I don't care what anybody says but this is one of the best introductions to a super hero. The laughter and the way he appears before the bad guys and the theme still give me goosebumps to this day.
The Shadow Knows! Hahahahahaha!
Luis my words exactly!
💯💯💯👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
and the way he walks like a badass.
The scene on the bridge is how the shadow should have been portrayed throughout the whole movie. that scene is fantastic, and really depicts the shadow as he was in the pulps.
This movie is criminallly underated
u could say batman is a shadow ripoff
Graynold65 I heard it was always Zorro. I believe that's even what Bruce is watching, before his parents die, if I remember right.
It makes a fine double-bill with The Rocketeer.
Nah, Zorro had some influence, but nowhere near as much as the Shadow. The very first Batman story was even a ripoff of a Shadow tale.
Kilaknux Yup, the two big things were the Shadow and Dracula. The Shadow even gets *kind of* acknowledged in the Animated Series with character 'The Grey Ghost'.
I don't understand why this movie wasn't a huge hit. The acting is excellent and the cinematography was great as well. And just the right amount of camp, without going overboard. Not to mention "the laugh"!
I don't know if it was intended, but it was a bit cheesy to try to match the environment of the pulps and the radio series. Kind of the same reason why Dick Tracy didn't do too well in the box office a few years earlier. The director and producer tried too hard to recreate the pulpy environment of the source material.
I think The Lion King opened the week before The Shadow, and then Forrest Gump came out, all in theaters at the same time, and The Shadow was just lost in the abundance of choices.
And True Lies. Talk about bad timing.
@@PatrickRsGhostI think Mulcahy was the wrong choice for the director. The spinning floors and the cgi knife. The radio series was always grounded in a dark kind of reality and for some reason, they chose to make the film adaptation way over the top
before there was a dark knight, there was....a Shadow
Hahahahahaha
Yes The Shadow was the original DARK KNIGHT
@@dwightlove3704 In fact, THE "Knight of Darkness."
@@samuelsheridan6629 The original BATMAN WITHOUT ROBIN
Bob Kane citied The Shadow and the dual identity as a major influence to Bruce Wayne
"The weed of crime bears bitter fruit. Crime does not pay...The Shadow knows!"
This scene was one of the best in the film and the perfect intro to the Shadow. That laugh and that delivery was just so spot on awesome!
Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? The Shadow knows! MAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!!!
The weed of crime bears bitter fruit.
Shanethefilmmaker
Crime does not pay! The Shadow knows! Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha!
As inevitable as your guilty conscience.
+Rampage Phoenix Like HELL I will!
Buy Blue Coal for your furnace!
I remember loving this movie a lot when I was a kid. Me and my brother would play with the toys and dress up. I know it's probably lame, but we enjoyed it when we were kids. I still love Baldwin's Shadow laugh. This scene is still awesome to me.
Dude I still have my costume
It's a cool costume
No, you were right and it was a great movie. Still is.
I just rewatched this movie for the first time since the 90's. I gotta admit, it holds up well today even the visual effects and I think I enjoyed it even more so than when I was kid, because I have a better appreciation for filmmaking and this movie has style and class in suedes. The writing and acting are actually very good too as is the direction. Very underrated during its debut.
I really like The Shadow (1994). It's aged, in my estimation, very well over the past twenty-three years. The production values are rich and splashy with a cast that somewhat captures the feel of the '40s radio dramas. Jonathan Winters, Peter Boyle and Tim Curry add dash and panache in their roles which makes The Shadow eminently watchable decades on from its release.
"Around every corner, in every empty room, as inevitable as his guilty conscience..."
True story: Bob Kane, the creator of Batman, drew direct inspiration from The Shadow radio show and pulp comics to create the character of Batman/Bruce Wayne. Funny, though, that Batman would go on to eclipse The Shadow in popularity.
+tenchiofJurai67 I LOVE THE SHADOW MORE THAN BATMAN NOW (than as a kid I had no clue who the Shadow was!)
Not so much "direct inspiration" as "plagiarized the first Batman story word-for-word from one of The Shadow pulps". Look it up. DC Comics are lucky Batman was small-time compared to Shadow, at the time. Otherwise Street & Smith probably would have sued, and easily won. Would have been a slam-dunk.
Bob Kane was a co-creator of Batman. Bill Finger also contributed a great deal.
The weed of crime bears bitter fruit. Best line...ever!
+Brett Seegmiller The weed of crime bears bitter fruit...Crime Does NOT PAY...THE SHADOW KNOWS (INSERT EVIL LAUGH!)
Brett Seegmiller, it was strait from the radio show.
Gee, I guess I'm the only person who really liked this movie! As a fan of both the old radio shows and the cheesy serials, I thought it was really good, all the way.
Seth Tyrssen not the only 1 I loved this movie
Oh, I loved it. Great movie, and great atmosphere. The "Fantasy 1930s" world that it created was very well done. Costumes, production design, sets, everything. Great performances all around, too. Every actor/actress did great.
I liked it, too!
I grew up watching this movie it's still one of my favorites
I love the movie too. I have cassette tapes of the old radio programs.
Twenty-something years later and I can still recite (from memory) two lines from THE SHADOW:
"Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? The Shadow Knows!"
"The sun is shining, but the ice is slippery."
It REALLY freaks my parents out. 😁 I can't help it, it's just too good.
I think my favourite line was “the weed of crime bears bitter fruit”
@@art_vandelay7845 I memorized that one too. 😁 The Shadow came up with some of the best lines in crime fiction...of course I'm going to commit them to memory.
I can actually do his voice
@@tonyyul703 I have a request: for Halloween, dress up as The Shadow and say some of his best lines. Not only will I like the video, but I will put it in my playlist called "The Shadow Knows". Seriously, I will.
My Dad listen to the Shadow on the radio…great movie.
Batman has always goes on about striking fear in the hearts of criminals, but I never saw him scary, imposing maybe but not scary. The Shadow however, the man is almost like a ghost that haunt his enemies with a malevolent laughter which actually left me with a bit of a chill.
I think what especially helps that he doesn't resort to tearing bad guys apart like some other anti-heroes cause that's scary in terms of shocking, true fear lingers and you can never forget.
Another factor is unlike Batman the Shadow can be anywhere . And unlike Batman the Shadow has agents
there was a crossover, says the Shadow was one of Bruce Wayne's many mentors.
Batman did that at the beginning of Batman 1989, he intentionally intimidated the two muggers and left them with a sense of fear to let others know that he was out there.
“I’m not going to kill you. I want you to tell all your friends about me”.
“WHAT ARE YOU?!!!”
“I’m Batman”.
One of my favorite movies STILL! It's now on Blu-Ray and it looks gorgeous!
Such a great scene. I actually enjoyed this film in the theater when I was a kid, but no question this scene makes the movie...
That evil laughter starts at 1:42 (It gives me the shivers...)
I was always hoping for a sequel as the atmosphere and lightheartedness throughout this movie far surpasses many of the movies made about the Shadow and of course the CGI helped, Baldwin did a great job in this one as did all all the other cast members.
One of the best underrated marvel characters of all time
Fun fact, The Shadow was suppose to 'appear' via his shadow and have a CGI cape at 4:24, but it was cut due to the budget. Thus he doesn't have a cape till the next shot.
There's a much better shadow movie waiting to be made. And I can't wait.
I loved Batman as a child when i saw the Shadow I definitely saw a different sort of caped crusader in the night. One I immediately liked due to the distinct shade of darkness within he used. Definitely a vigilante in most senses of the word but in a world where there are corrupt cops and politicians he was needed.
This guy's like the predecessor of Batman, except he has a sense of humor
He was. Batman was originally a plagiarization of the character.
That is a very common misconception, batman actually has a sense of humor, infact he jokes quite a bit with the other leaguers
Kane and finger plagiarized the shadow pulp story partners of peril for the first Batman comic case of the chemical syndicate, if Walter Gibson in Street and Smith were aware of the fact or at least were made aware of it at the time they could have easily sued. There's plenty of articles that talk about that subject and even has scans of the pulp artwork and comic artwork they basically swiped it and recopied it.
The shadow is like a cross between Batman, The Joker and The Lone Ranger.
@@handsomeDRAC The Shadow came first
Should have had a few sequels. Maybe one day we will get a remake. Still love this movie
Chester Fox I'd love a film with the Shadow, Doc Savage, the avenger, and other pulp heroes in the same story.
Try to download or buy 'Masks'. It's a comic series about the Shadow, Green Hornet and motherfucking ZORRO (among others) forming a JLA-type group in NY.
+Chester Fox A remake just won't do for me. Alec Baldwin just needs to get busy and get a sequel in the works.
+CrazyGrapefruit I bet they all fight over who's the Batman of the group.
+Shanethefilmmaker Black Bat would probably win that argument. Though honestly, Bruce would want to put half the gunslingers on this team in prison... right after he got Zorro's autograph. www.dynamite.com/htmlfiles/viewProduct.html?PRO=C72513019768900111
Doesn't matter how well any remake is put together, the score will never be this good.
The Shadow (2015)
- How did you know what was happening to me? How did you know, who I am?
- Haahahahaha....I googled it!
In 2015.. He baca me the Silver Shroud
Nah. The Shadow will always be in the 1930's-1950's.
Google Analytics knows... hahaha !
I have loved the shadow since I started reading the pulp novels from the 1930s thru the radio shows that were produced I still find Orson Welles does the best shadow along side Bret Morrison and Bill Johnston. I have also got into the comic books that came out but in 1994 when I found out a movie was made based on The Shadow I had to go see and I must say it was a hell of a ride. Alec Baldwin played the role to a tee not only The Shadow but as Lamont Cranston as well. If they are going to make another one I hope and pray they get someone with the same stature and the same charisma as Alec Baldwin for as I often said he was born to play this role as Michael Keaton was born to play Batman...
Ken Earl Personally I just want someone to put out an animated feature with the Shadow on par with what DC is putting out and to get Baldwin to voice him. Apparently Alec is a massive fan of the character IRL
@@CRocketSlim at least when voicing the character he would be less likely to shoot the production crew again.
What I love about the Shadow is how well he does the "strike fear in the hearts of criminals" thing. That's a classic Batman idea, but really, I don't think Batman is even a fraction as intimidating at his best as Shadow is when he starts doing that sinister laugh ...
***** It's actually a classic Shadow idea, seeing as how Bruce was a boy when The Shadow was gunning down bad guys and he predates Batman as a character.
Batman starting out early was a blatant plagiarism of The Shadow.
The Shadow is basically Batman's idol and inspiration.
The Shadow is way cooler than Batman!
Even in the comics Batman admitted being inspired by shadow. The creators did too.
The Shadow doesn't get enough respect. Batman was based off the Shadow. Menacing crime fighting done right, in a rain of bullets and mystery.
How about the Spider? Or the Black Bat?
Thank you 🙏🏻 finally get it
I can never forget that one legendary line: "The Shadow knows"
Who came here after the incident?
😉
So many people panned this movie, but it was fantastic... Absolutely fantastic. It perfectly captured the feel of the Orson Welles radio serials.
well, just a note: the Shadow used to be an opium lord in pre-WWII China, he stole the identity of Lamont Cranston (who is actually a similar looking young man who's cruising the world to stay out of the Shadow's way because the Shadow terrified him).
He's basically a guy trying to fight his own sociopathic tendencies and do good in the world. Compared to his time as Ying Ko, his policy for recruitment is downright lenient.
It's actually a pretty genius subversion of the 'playboy by day, vigilante by night' thing, since BOTH personas are utterly fake.
The radio version - introducing the ‘clouds mens minds’ business, actually makes the character more believable. It gives him a way to get info, and scare the crap out of the underworld.
The radio shadow is the final, real version.
The Jerry Goldsmith Score is terrific-Really makes the movie
This movie turned 20 today.
Jake Rutigliano 22 now =)
Jake Rutigliano: Hear, hear. Going on twenty-four in a few months. The passage of time is swifter than I like to acknowledge at times. I saw this film with my wife when it was released and it doesn't seem that long ago at all.
Jake Rutigliano There was a rumor that a remake is to be done a MUCH MORE DARKER version but have not seen it yet.
25 already
this was an awesome movie. the first time i heard shadow laughing it sent chills down my spine
The voice and the laugh... iconic 👏🏿👏🏿
Oh my god, this brings back so much childhood memories. Me and my brother were big fans of this when we were kids.
1994 gave us 3 awesomes: Pulp Fiction, Riverdance, and The Shadow. Much as I genuinely love all 3, The Shadow is my absolute revisit. To this day, myself and (some) family members still greet each other with "The Sun is shining...." Alec was/is absolutely perfect in this role - ok, the movie has flaws but hey - THE SUN IS SHINING... thank you for uploading, suddenly life is a little bit better.
I wanna laugh just like that and say: THE SHADOW KNOWS! HAHAHAHA
Teacher: How did you know what questions would be in the exam??
Me: hehehe....THE SHADOW KNOWS, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...
Teacher: ok, you're grounded.
+MASS HYSTERIA Your teacher can ground you? Damn, that must be a hell of a school.
+Isaac Boissonneau ur dumb, he obviously was talking about when he took his flying licence exam lmao
+Ben Masta How do you know what kind of school he was talking about? He doesn't say.
Isaac Boissonneau ...you're a fun one...
+Isaac Boissonneau elementary, Watson.
DID YOU THINK I WOULDN'T KNOW?
Great line. Delivered perfectly.
No sin is completely hidden. Someone always finds out about it.
And the perpetrator and God know it right away.
One of my favourite movies!! The Shadow has always been awesome!
sorry if this sounds like an advert, but if you like pulp hero based stories, there's a book by Chris Roberson called Book of Secrets, which has 2 story-lines: the first is a present day private eye trying to track down a book called The Book of Secrets over the course of seven days, this storyline was more so-so for me, but the second one really caught my interest. The second storyline are these stories told in reverse chronological order, starting with a Pulp era masked crime fighter in the 1930s called The Black Hand, the stories that go further back are a Pulp Western, a Masked Highwayman, a Masked Pirate duo, a sort of Robin Hood like figure. All these stories, told in Pulp style, are about a masked do-gooder called The Black Hand. As it goes further back in time, the masked figures become more mythological, with the last two stories particularly linked to myths such as Ancient Greece and even The Bible in a way. Why I mentioned this is Roberson is also a comic-book writer who has also recently done a comic series involving Doc Savage, Zorro and The Shadow. Some of you may be more interested in the Pulp-Hero comic, but I thought as an idea saying that pulp heroes and their eventual offspring, superheroes, are all a form of mythology, like said in the other great comic-book inspired superhero film Unbreakable. You might also like the book about mythology called Our Gods Wear Spandex, which charts mythological figures from Ancient Egypt, to folk heroes like Robin Hood, to Zorro, The Shadow and modern Superheroes. Sorry for the long rant, but as a comic book nerd and a wannabe writer, I just found the link with Superheroes to Pulp to Mythology a really fascinating subject. Sorry again for the rant. But if you've read this far, thank you for reading this at least from the bottom of my heart.
I liked your rant
I agree. This was the BEST scene in the movie to pay true homage to the character.
Loved The Shadow! He's the inspiration for Batman, and he's WAY COOLER than Batman.
Penelope Ann Miller was perfect as Margo Lane.
Before I discovered what I know now, my two favorite superheroes were Batman & Spider-Man, but after I found out about Batman's surprisingly deep connection to the Shadow, my favorite heroes went from just two to three, for without the Shadow, Batman wouldn't exist.
For those who don't know what I'm talking about, basically, Bill Finger, co-creator of Batman, ripped off a Shadow story (pretty much verbatim) to write the very first Batman story in 1939, but that's not all.
Apparently, in some of the Shadow stories, he was referred to as "the Knight of Darkness", in the story Finger ripped off, he's described as a "bat-like" figure (about 7 times, no less), his alter ego is a billionaire playboy who has good relations with the city police commissioner, he's had a yellow boomerang with rope tied around it & suction pads for climbing buildings as pieces of equipment, & he once had a villain who's disguised alias is "the Joker", & he wore clown makeup when in that disguise.
(I know, right?)
Bill Finger eventually admitted to his thievery, but Bob Kane kept the deception going until his death.
Thankfully, even though it was rather delayed, DC finally made an attempt to make things better by declaring the Shadow canon in the Batman mythos in 1973, with Batman claiming that the Shadow was, quote, "his biggest inspiration", & by adding a flashback showing that when Bruce Wayne was a boy, he saw the Shadow foil a bank robbery.
Sadly though, that continuity been abandoned by DC in every other canon that's come out since.
These days, the Shadow & Batman are in completely separate universes, they never refer to one another, & when talking about the Shadow, everyone politely (& scarcely) refers to him as "the direct inspiration of Batman."
I only wish I found out about the whole thing sooner so I could give the initially unintentional founding father of Batman the respect he deserves.
(Also, Bob & Bill stole the fins on Batman's gloves from another character, namely a Shadow wannabe called "Black Bat", who was clad in a dark ensemble with a black cowl that pretty much looked like Batman's but without ears.)
No matter how much I watch it,every time it seens better.
I love the "Shadow" character... I think this is the only possible decent movie they made out of that.
I agree, this movie is highly underrated. The main issue I have with this movie, now that I am a 30 something nerdy critic is that is the original Shadow from the books was actually a very violent person. He had zero qualms about killing people who he believed deserved to die.
The whole point of the 'Who knows the evil that lurks within the hearts of men... the Shadow knows!' was the fact that The Shadow was a very evil man himself who could not rid himself of evil, but decided to use it for good. This movie does it half-right with having him be a brutal warlord who doesn't hesitate to kill his own underlings if it furthers his interest.
That being said, I never actually read the books, but I want to, but I don't think books that old should be sold, they should be up for download on the gutenburg project site.
Don't bother with the books man! It's the radio shows where it's at (it's where he got started IIRC). You can find this on UA-cam :D
@@Albukhshi Nah the books are better. The radio Shadow is just a hypnotist who's rich and solves mysteries with his gal pal, Margo Lane. There's no cloak, hat, scarf, and no twin .45s. The pulp Shadow is almost an elemental force of vengeance with superhuman powers of strength, agility, telepathy, and mind control.
Cosplaying as the Shadow this year for New York Comic Con
The Silver SHROOOOUD.... Okay maybe it isn't him but The Silver Shroud was modelled after The Shadow
+Ethan Downes so was batman and a lot of others
+Ethan Downes That quest was my absolute, 100% favorite in Fallout 4. Having grown up listening to the radio shows and eventually reading the pulp novel reprints, I laughed and enjoyed that quest from beginning to end. What a most excellent tip of the hat to those old stories!
Jan. 8, 2019----Never understood why a sequel wasn't made, along with The Phantom.
An underrated gem. This and The Mask take me back
it has that gritty noir feel. like de palma's untouchables. or tim burton's batman. or maybe even frank miller's sin city. that insane maniacal laughter. that music. goose bumps.
I really love that maniacal laugh at the end of the scene. I liked the movie, but there was way too much Lamont Cranston and way too little of The Shadow.
There was nothing maniacal about The Shadow's laugh. Mysterious, yes; sinister, absolutely. But never maniacal. I do agree that we should have been shown more of The Shadow and less of Cranston. The way it was done in the movie is, I believe, due to Alec Baldwin being the star; he would no doubt want as much time onscreen without the makeup and costume of The Shadow as possible.
Agree 100%. Too many stars have to feature themselves as superheroes or literary characters. The first Batman and the Shadow are like this. Too much Bruce Wayne and Lamont Cranston, too little Batman and the Shadow. Each ends with the hero unmasked, so that the star can "act".
I enjoyed the Shadow, but it could have been so much more. The muddled plot about reincarnated Ghengis Khan was too convoluted. Should have been a straight up '30s noir mystery.
SeamusMaccDuff You're super right up until the part where you say both are unmasked so the star can act. Batman '89 never had his mask taken off during a fight to the credit of that film.
Batman Returns though, he literally tears the mask off the cowl. >___>
ArcaneOmen2041 You are correct. I meant the 2nd Batman film. :-( But the first Batman suffers from the same problem as The Shadow: too much millionaire playboy alter ego and not enough stealthy hero.
Other films suffering from the no-mask syndrome include Spider-Man, Captain America, and Iron Man. Others like Wolverine opted out wearing masks altogether.
Acting!!
James Casselbury Exactly right about the laugh. It lacked the maniacal element to it. Nevertheless, it was as close as it gets to the laugh.
The fact we saw more Cranston and less Shadow is understandable. It should have been balanced better, like in the Batman/Nolan films.
Still think it is a very underrated film.
İ used to love shadow, i still do
Like Shadows laugh!
Only some of us actually know the Shadow predates the Batman...
I believe the Shadow was standing behind Duke since that was the only place he couldn't aim his gun...
Still amazing how old this is, makes me wish they could do a team up of pulp heroes instead of a justice league movie... the phantom, the shadow would the rocketeer qualify?
Flash Gordon, Buck Rogers can you name others?
Tarzan I think might be around the right time...
Now there's an inspired idea. I just love the atmosphere of these streamline moderne cities and the radio-era heroes and crime fighters in them. It's a shame most of them are either in crap films (Dick Tracy, Green Hornet) or underrated ones, like The Shadow. If they did a pulp hero roundup movie, I'd see it.
While not a movie, they did a pulp hero team up comic called masks. It includes the shadow, the spider, the green hornet (with kato of course), and Zorro. It has a V for vendetta type of story where a corrupt government takes over a city and they have to join forces to take it down.
Also of note with duke, he was using a tommy gun, one of the most inaccurate guns of all time so not hard to avoid if invisible.
Let's see, you've got the Shadow as an obvious entry, Doc Savage as well. Doc would probably drag Cliff Secord in as well, so there's the Rocketeer. Could probably use Mandrake the Magician as well, although you'd probably have to upgrade h to actual Magic to keep up... Tarzan or Ka-Zar would be another solid choice.
+Darkwintre Black Bat, Domino Lady, The Phantom, The Spider, Green Hornet, I could go on lol
If you like comics, you may want to dig up the first TPB of Warren Ellis' _Planetary_. You won't be disappointed.
Forget the Joker, the laughter of the Shadow is GENUINELY one of the greatest laughs of all time. :>
Him and Alucard
WE NEED MORE MOVIES OF THE SHADOW HE'S MORE AWESOME THAN BATMAN!
"Can i ask my wife about this?
"-NO!!"
I really like this movie. The Shadow costume is awesome, Alec Baldwin did a good job playing him and the laugh is superb. The score is good, which I own the special edition one. Just wish they did good at the box office so there could be a second movie.
1:05 you can see the top of the backing drop. :)
This show has incredibly beautiful design though.
Damn, Baldwin had the greatest laugh!
I actually still enjoy this movie.
A darker version of this will be a masterpiece in itself.....I love this movie!
"The weed of crime bears bitter fruit" I fking love it Billionaire / crime fighter / and philosopher poet
Batman + Darkman = The Shadow.
+Afham Zaki Technically the Shadow came before. In fact they used The Shadow as inspiration for Batman.
batman = the shadow copy-paste
+Afham Zaki It's funny though, Sam Raimi wanted to direct The Shadow movie but whatever reason the studio wouldn't let him, so that's how Sam created his own kind of Shadow movie Darkman, it took me years to realize they look similar
+Afham Zaki The Shadow's debut - 1920, Batman's debut - 1938, The Shadow was technically the first super-hero, although you could say that superheroes in general are simply another form of modern mythology
+bgcorporation The Batman was basically a pulp hero masquerading as a golden age super hero. Even today Batman has far more in common with the pulp heroes of yesteryear than he does with his super powered contemporaries.
At his most basic and fundamental level The Batman is a pulp hero. No doubt about it.
my grandparents got me into the old time radio programs back in the 1970,s and i love it ever since. ( in 2 batman comics back in the 1970,s batman even meet the shadow).
The Shadow knows
Personally, I loved the 1994 Shadow movie. Like Ron Ely's 1975 Doc Savage film, its greatly underrated and underappreciated. Always thought that the Shadow was far more cooler than Batman.
"Did you think.....I....wouldn't know???"
This movie deserves better. It has so many awesome touches, like how Cranston’s face changes when he turns into the Shadow, how he leaves a ghostly image as he punches the bad guy. I’d love to see another Shadow movie, but since it’s 2022, Margot Lain would be the hero and the Shadow would be made into a bumbling idiot. (Looks at Star Wars, Thor, and Hulk)
This character is incredible! A clear prelude to Batman!
I watched this recently on Amazon Prime. I really like it. if this ever gets a remake, I hope they keep it a period film.
Like everyone here, I feel this is a very underrated movie. While it did have some campiness at times, the characters were well cast and atmosphere perfect. I knew of the character having written a paper on the old radio shows when I was in HS. As research, I found some Shadow recordings - easily became my favorite of all that I listened to. How I missed this movie when it was on the big screen, I'll never know but I discovered it when it was released on video. Still one I will rewatch periodically.
For those who truly like the character and want more, I'd encourage you to seek out the Garth Ennis take on the Shadow comics published by Dynamite. Not many story lines but enjoyable.
Without the soundtrack, there would be no movie.
Don't care what anybody says, they just don't make sweet fuckin' movies like this anymore. Loved this movie when I was a kid. Alec did a great job!
This is the movie that introduced me to The Shadow.
Lamont Cranston sure made those bad guys on the bridge so scared in his Shadow persona.
I have a dream idea for a movie one day. The Shadow, The Spirit, The Spectre and Batman from the 30's all team up to fight evil either back in the 30's or '40's or today.
I wish someone would put up just the Shadow laughing and saying his trademarked phrase. Always my favorite part. :)
The forgot to digitally add his flowing cape when he first appears; he's standing there with no cloak. Someone on the net added it for them. This is the best scene, though.
The Shadow has to be dark and gritty. This movie was actually pretty dar and gritty. The only problem is A. The probably would use too much CGI. B. Not too many people know The Shadow inspired Batman so people will think The Shadow is a rip off of Batman and not too many people will see or like it which is a damn shame. If they do reboot The Shadow, they have be very careful so it atleast may just produce a series which is what they tried to do with this movie.
The scene in which the Shadow charges up the staircase of the Monolith Hotel is very iconic as he is revealed the theme rises.
I can't believe it's been 30 years since that film was released. I was in high school in 2001 when I watched the 1994 movie of The Shadow. And yes, I'm still an Alec Baldwin fanatic 😊😁💕
omg I was HOPING this would be the bridge scene (not the scene where they discuss where they buy their ties). The special effects in this scene effing blew me away as a kid... and they still do. The Shadow coming out of air to punch him... so amazing. I remember the trailer playing on a tv at the gas station and I was screaming at everyone in the waiting room to look, look at those effects! :D
he has my preccciooouuusss!!! give us back my precious!!!
The Shadow already knew about the pandemic of 2020 back in the day.
The sun is shining....
Matt's Geek Brain But the ice is slippery!
I don't know why people hate on this movie. Sure it's not the best out there but it's one of those movies you want to watch when you feeling under the weather and don't want to work your brain too much. Still, it's better than Catwoman and The Phantom. Can't see why my parents like those two movies.
its been a long time since i saw this movie. need to see it again.
I love this movie.
the rest of the movie happens to be awesome!
This is such a great and underrated movie.
the movie actually aged well. I still remember the first time I saw the Shadow. There were no similar movies at the time. execution and technical achievement was astounding. a remake is due surely.
This was the epitome of cool when I was a kid. I so wanted one of those rings. One of Baldwin's best.
This brings back memories. :^D
