@@TheSuperQuail I think he means it was such a cool concept that didn't get properly recognized and has fallen to the wayside. Instead what we have now is crap. However the movie is a 90's classic, I would say it was made at the right time when Hollywood did experiment with their films. It's just that they've stopped.
The Shadow, TMNT, Darkman, and The Rocketeer were in nonstop rotation of my VCR when I was a kid. My brothers and I would spend all night watching these gems in the early 90s.
Born in the late 60s here; my mother was a huge Shadow fan from the radio days with none other than Orson Welles as Lamont Cranston, she had some records which she played for me as a kid. When this came out I took my mom and a few others to see it, and we all had a grand time. Ma said she "felt just like a kid again."
You know having played Bayonetta I always thought that the Shadow’s look always fit my idea of what an Umbran Warlock would have looked like. The cape and scarf would consist of the warlock’s hair and obviously he wouldn’t be quite so acrobatic.
Love this movie, it should have return with a few sequels: "RETURN OF THE SHADOW," "REVENGE OF THE SHADOW," "THE SHADOW: BLACK DEATH," "THE SHADOW: STING OF THE SCORPION," "POWER OF THE SHADOW," "THE SHADOW: WRATH OF THE BLACK DRAGON," "THE SHADOW: THE FACE OF DEATH," "THE CURSE OF THE SHADOW," and "THE GHOST OF THE SHADOW."
the finale with the mirrors was supposed to be a lot bigger with The Shadow being confronted with scenes of his life as a warlord, however the LA earthquake of 1994 destroyed the sets
I think what happened when the Shadow was fighting Khan and finally able to get control of that dagger is he finally accepted his darkness and focused both half's of himself to create balance needed to create psychokinesis. Khan had it because he not only accepted his darkness he reveled in it. While the Shadow's darkness was constantly fighting with his goodness making him unable to focus enough until he was close to death.
This also explains how he was able to overwrite Khans control because he created perfect balance making him stronger while Khan didn't have it since he was all darkness
I’ve enjoyed watching the Shadow since I first watched it. And now I’ve watched it dozens of times and I have the better version of its soundtrack too. That contains more of the score that wasn’t on the original soundtrack version. It’s also my favourite out of all of the movies I’ve seen with Alec Baldwin. And it contains wonderful music by Jerry Goldsmith too.
Ok this film, had the potential though to be so much better, the end fight I reckon should have been better and longer, and I think there should have been a sequel. Hope they make a remake sometime.
I think I heard that the set is destroyed because of an earthquake that happened and due to their lack of budget that the movie didn't end as they wanted.
This is a fan theory of mine. I think that the Shadow is not really Cranston but a weaponized version of Yingko. Not a multiple personality per se. But that the Tulku taught Cranston how to use the Yingko persona to hone his esper abilities. So, the phurba can symbolize his internal conflict. So when he is finally able to control the phurba he has found balance, because he has embraced the fact that the Shadow is apart of him. But again that is just me.
Freaking criminally underrated! Such terrific movie should be given more recognition and justice it deserves. The Shadow, better known as Lamont Cranston, was once a patriot who fought for his country, but deemed expendable like any other ordinary soldiers. Unwilling to resort to his faith being strung by his nation as a puppet, he decided to forge his own destiny, and that path led him to a lavishly dark and evil life he enjoyed most, by killing people and running his opium/drug empire in the abandoned territories of the East, thus self proclaimed himself as the de facto ruler of his kingdom (but deep down , there's still good left in him, he only turned evil because he despises the disgusting human nature, which hypocrisy and lies are cruel, pretending to be the brutal killer happy warlord to cover his inner hatred, confusion, sadness and extreme anguish within his poor soul). The High Monk - Reverend Tulku saw bits of light left in Cranston, and he was fortunately kidnapped and forced back into the road to redemption. In order to redeem his true soul, he suppresses his underlying evil and controls it, using it against greater evil for the good of mankind; thus, becoming his alter ego known sinisterly as The Shadow who strikes great fear in the hearts of crime and evil! The Shadow was no extremely, extraordinarily powerful hero/antihero, nor was he a terrifically modern one so to speak; but, characters, story, and settings, the soundtracks - like this one is simply one of th e best and in my vocabulary, easily tops most sky high budgeted superhero blockbusters we have nowadays. I personally prefer this kind of superhero genre and classic, without much exaggerating effects and powers, although The Shadow was no Superman, but Darkly and Sinisterly, he fights crime and evil with his own respective methods and ways, which is already enough to prove and justify the coolness and greater power one could have and possibly, achieve! Love the Shadow and other similarly related heroes (to all you heroes of such type out there! You're not alone, I'll always support you!)
I don't understand how this movie got such a poor rating. The acting is great. The story is great. The effects are good. What is so bad that drags this movie down?
I dunno what is happening to Hollywood. As late as 30 years ago, the big screen was graced by men, handsome or ugly, virile or cowardly, but... men. And women were women. Not now. Now, their topmost priority seems to cram some LGBT stuff into the films they make, no matter if it fits, well... like in Brokeback Mountain, for instance, it or doesn't. And what comes out of it is often a piece of lackluster, cookie-cutter, if not downright neasiating, shit!
According to comic historians "The Shadow" is the Dark Knight before Batman was created and they also say Batman is a rip off of "The Shadow". In my useless opinion, "The Shadow" disappearing scene could work more than Batman . The only I hate in this movie is his nose changing.
I was happy to not see the goofy nose, I know it's iconic but it would look so ridiculous in a live action movie, you'd just be laughing at how stupid it was every time you saw it.
Because his face was disfigured in world war 1, and he uses make up, and the power to cloud men's minds to create the illusion of the Handsome Lamont Cranston. At that moment in the movie he was losing his control and his face almost reverted to what it really looked like. But then at the last second he regained control.
I don't think this movie gets enough recognition. It was way ahead of its time.
The movie is the typical jewslop from the 90s. It receives way too much recognition for how shit it was.
How so?
30 years later and it's still the best comic book based movie.
@@lj5190 Yeah people always say 'ahead of its time' without knowing what that even means.

I was born in 1990, and this movie made part of my childhood too. Good memories
Not to break the chain but I was born in the 70s and still loved this movie.
I was born in 2005 and this was one of my favorite my favorite movies ngl
I love how his cloak billows when he walks
I watch this movie first time and was suprised that some special effects are still so good.
This movie will never fail to be a fun time. Loved it as a kid on TV and still do
Fantastic music and set designs in this flick!
The Shadow, The Phantom, and The Rocketeer. Three classics that wouldn't be made today.
I love this film. And I’ve loved it since I was a child
I love Ian mckellen putting on a SECOND pair of glasses
The shadow was my first and still is my all time favorite antihero to this day if he were a marvel or DC character, they wouldn't stand a chance.
i had completely forgotten about this movie. so glad i found it again.
This movie is 1 of my favs.
One of my favorite childhood superhero movies.
The Shadow fights Tim Curry and Magneto defuses an atomic bomb. Love this movie!!
You mean Gandalf defuses an atomic bomb.
@@P.Whitestrake And The Shadow fights Dr. Frank N Furter.
You mean the shadow fight's pennywise the clown! Lol 😂😂😂😂🔥💯😁😉👍
Wtf I didn't know that was Ian McKellen and neither did my dad until now!
This is my favorite superhero movie.
The soundtrack is so freaking good.
The Legendary Jerry Goldsmith.
Great Actors, great special effects and holyshit what a extremly good Score by Goldsmith
I love this movie and still watch it often.
Best superhero costume.🏆
This was a great movie. Extremely underrated.
This would’ve made a nice 👍🏾 series either live or animated

I love the shadow i wish he would get a new film or series on netflix or somthing
If they made this into a Series I would definitely watch it huge fan of this film.
A well done series would be awesome!
Nah. Let classic be classic. Hollywood would make it woke & "updated for modern audience" with "strong female character" & race-bent characters.

"THE SHADOW: STING OF THE SCORPION,"
"POWER OF THE SHADOW,"
"THE SHADOW: WRATH OF THE BLACK DRAGON,"
"THE SHADOW: THE FACE OF DEATH,"
"THE CURSE OF THE SHADOW,"
and "THE GHOST OF THE SHADOW."

Ah Tim Curry. You made an underrated classic so much better.

Ian McKellan was even in this?!?! WOW.
Oh look it's a younger Gandalf :D
Oh my God I haven't seen this movie for a long time
A brilliant movie. I remember the audience in the cinema all clapping at the end!!
The ‘30s Art Deco art direction on this film is second to none, beating even “The Rocketeer” and the Sky Captain movie.
When movies had craft and practical effects. Great sound, acting and good storytelling!
Where the fuck did this 1930s hotel skyscraper come from? Clark, what were you hiding in your back pocket?

No to remakes
Alec Baldwin has never been more cool
Not many people know that the Shadow is actually the inspiration that lead to the Batman.

If they make another Shadow movie, David Dastmalchian would be a good star.
Does he have 'The Nose', though?

Clever move by The Shadow actually, injure the part of his brain that made him dangerous.

Who else thought he looked like his brother when in disguise?

A remake or videogame about the shadow......shut up and take my money
Super Nintendo has the shadow video game. It’s cool. ❤

Can anyone tell me why Claymore was shooting at the ceiling?
The Shadow clouded his mind and tricking him so that he can only see his shadow on the walls thus making him go crazy.

How comedic and overdone movies were before…
Comedic and overdone back then? Ever watch the Transformers or Fast and Furous movies? At least movies like this didn’t insult people’s intelligence.
