    That looks great so far! and educational, I've just been painting a model with an unconvincing hair line and the feathering advice really worked well.

    Amazing find, and it looks like a really great sculpt (in that it actually resembles Karloff)! The choice of mixing mediums seems to have come off well so far, looking forward to seeing where it goes from here.

    Thanks - great video. You attached the head and arms in order not to touch them when you paint them. Would you explain how you did that? What did you use?

    I'd like to see this model painted with the Scale 75 Black and White set to make the monster look like he does on the big screen.

    In the last video when you finally finish it, you should find the clip from the 1933? Frankenstein film where he says "It's alive, It's alive!!!!"

    Not sure what you're using to thing the VMC/VGC but I've had a lot of luck with thinning it almost exclusively with flow improver and a little water. Went probably half an hour shooting Orange Fire without any real issues other than the normal occasional dry tip. I'd occasionally cover the tip and backflush the pot to agitate it, but nothing crazy.

    Would you use similar techniques layering normal human (non-undead) skin tones?

    can you use regular water based acrylic paints or do you have to use the special model acrylics (I just bought TESTERS)?

    I can't help but think of that scene from Ed Wood with Bela Legos, "How dare that asshole bring up Karloff? You think it takes talent to do Frankenstein? It's all makeup and grunting."(grunts)

    Please consider releasing an alternate video without background music. I find this all very interesting, but I selfishly also look up videos like yours to relax and decompress after a long day

    I have an old Robocop ED 209 vinyl kit thats caked with thick crappy paint (acrylic?) What could I use to strip the paint without damaging the model?
    Thanks!

      I'd recommend either Simple Green or Purple Power; both are house hold cleaning agents that are safe to use for removing at least acrylic paint from plastic miniatures and models (I say "at least acrylic" because that's all I've used them for; they might do fine with other paints as well, but I don't have any firsthand information or experience to say either way). I've left Reaper Bones miniatures (made from a rather soft pvc) and Citadel plastic miniatures, as well as styrene model parts in Simple Green for multiple days and not only has the paint come off easily, the items themselves have been completely fine.

    I did only one vinyl kit and I had to give up! Paints (tamiya acrylics) never cure! If I touch the paint I leave fingerprints...even after months! The primer was Tamiya primer in the spray can.
    I was so sad. I had to strip the paint away. But now I'm scared to try again because I know that on vinyl those colours don't cure.

    • @ThePaintingClinic
      @ThePaintingClinic  8 років тому

      You don't wan to use enamels or lacquers on vinyl. Tamiya is synthetic lacquer.

    • @RobotJeeg
      @RobotJeeg 8 років тому

      Is it lacquer? OMG I always though it was acryilics like all their paints. It is strange that the primer is cured! But if I paint on it the acrylics don't cure. To be more precise what happened was the I could leave fingerprints on the paint even after weeks! And if I used gloves they stick a little bit on the paint. Maybe with a flat paint it was less noticeable but this robot was very shiny and not flat.
      Can you suggest me a good primer not lacquer or enamel based? Because I only use Tamiya or Mr Surfacer and they are both lacquer I think.

    • @ThePaintingClinic
      @ThePaintingClinic  8 років тому

      Both the spray and bottles are synthetic lacquer despite the acrylic label. All spray primers I can think of are lacquer or enamel. That's one benefit of using an airbrush.

    • @RobotJeeg
      @RobotJeeg 8 років тому

      Now I'm more confused than before. So Tamiya are not real acrylics. I knew that Tamiya are alcohol based acrylics, Vallejo vinyl based acrylics, etc...probably only chemists know the truth.
      Thank you for your help! You are always very kind.

      Use Rustoleum Auto Primer Gray. This will dry over the vinyl and allow you to paint with any type of paint. Please try this don't give up.
