    yes, nobody ever uses that "awful Jazzmaster trem"...except for Swervedriver, Elvis Costello, My Bloody Valentine, Dinosaur Jr., Curve, The Cure, Alcest, Wilco, Sonic Youth, Yo La Tengo, etc etc.
    seriously, it takes ten minutes to set one up properly. it's basically the same as a Bigsby, except the spring is inside the body. if someone doesn't like the rocking bridge (which admittedly gives some people issues), it's easy to either tape the posts or just install one of the many aftermarket options. the offset trem absolutely works, it's just different than a Strat style trem and isn't meant for the same kind of abuse.

    • @christopherventer6391
      @christopherventer6391 10 років тому +4

      I actually far prefer the Jazzmaster trem to the strat trem. The action is a bit slower and more precise, the arm is longer and more comfortable, and it strays in tune extremely well if it's set up properly. I do prefer something like a mastery bridge or mustang bridge, though.

      Excellent bands sir. These guys here are mostly about the cock-rock though, so it's no surprise, they probably only think of doing dive-bombs when they see a vibrato bar on a guitar. I mainly use 'em to put a nice shimmer on chords and the jazzmaster/jaguar trem kills the strat's in that regard, though admittedly I'm a strat guy.

    • @ftr2216
      @ftr2216 10 років тому

      primeDecomposition Give three examples of any of those bands using the vibrola on a jm for a divebomb. Just three.

      ***** I adore Jazzmasters. They're my favorite guitars ever made. But nowadays, the stock trems are useless. They need to just license the Mastery Bridge and make it the official bridge and trem. It'd be worth every cent of the price increase.

      Fender is still way less boring than Gibson. Gee, let's see, SG, Les Paul, Explorer, Flying V and a few models of semi-/hollowbody, all with 2 humbuckers, 24.75" scale, etc. YAWN.

    FENDER. For Christ's sake. AMERICAN OR JAPANESE VINTAGE-CORRECT JAZZMASTER THAT I CAN AFFORD. I know you can do it. Just have the Japanese start building the CP Jazzmaster, like with the Classic Series Mustang. That's all you have to do. I don't even mind the incorrect fingerboard radius.
    Same with the Mustang. I'd take a Classic Series '65 over this any day. It has a trem, and single coils. Coil splitting just isn't the same. PLUS it has the right radius.
    These are nice, and I'd be happy to own one, but I don't see why anyone would buy this when you can get a Japanese Jazzy or Mustang for about the same price, and they'll have trems and the right circuits.

    The riff at 11:25 is a masterclass in how to get the huge sound obtained in recordings with a slightly gain heavy low end guitar and a mild crunch on a more mid/treble based guitar. Mix between both = tonegasm :3

    A Jazzmaster without the floating tremolo and a Mustang with humbuckers. It's simply blasphemy for me. Awful.

    • @promoted738
      @promoted738 9 років тому

      True - however I have a Jazzmaster and the trem and bridge were nighmarish - I removed them and installed a Bigsby! It's a fine trem for that guitar - looks and sounds killer. I had to keep the plate from the old trem on to cover the hole - if I had the above Jazzmaster that wouldn't be an issue. So..you could get this one and put a good trem on it aftermarket and be happy. Without a huge body rout to deal with.

    • @herbertbeiderbecke
      @herbertbeiderbecke 9 років тому +2

      NO man!!!! what have ya done! the floating tremolo mounted on jazzmaster and jaguar is the best tremolo ever, it's the only one that never stretch the strings out of tune (of course provided you play strings that are at least .012 'cause those models weren't suppose to be played with thinner strings...they were meant for jazz and badass surf music, not AOR :D )
      an actual problem could be with the bridge, since sometimes it doesn't keep some strings within the guide if you strum the guitar very hard.
      I perfectly solved that problem by replacing the jazzmaster bridge with a Mustang bridge, keeping the floating tremolo alive and kicking! :D

    • @herbertbeiderbecke
      @herbertbeiderbecke 9 років тому +1

      it's not a case that those guitar models were the most frequently used in the music genre that make the most extensive use of tremolo, that is surf rock...

    • @promoted738
      @promoted738 9 років тому

      herbertbeiderbecke As with all things man made some are better than others - mine wasn't a good trem - though it seems the Bigsby would be a stranger on that axe - it's actually quite awesome. I wouldn't do it to an expensive JM - but this one...perfect candidate! My fellow axe slingers in the area are all falling in love with it. And I'm the only dude anywhere with one like this.

    I wish Fender would stop dicking around with models like this and just bring out American Standard versions of offsets such as these.

    • @owwwwcccchhhh
      @owwwwcccchhhh 8 років тому

      Why? These are the only types of these two guitars I would ever buy. Seeing as I like humbuckers for gain and I don't like tremolos. Obviously they appeal to an audience, i.e., me. I'm sure that fender has a model of these awesome instruments that would appeal to you, and if not, look elsewhere or buy a different Fender! They do make a few different more traditional models of these two, but I don't know the prices. I would suggest looking around, even if it means the used market, seeing as you could probably find the perfect guitar for you, for not much money.

    • @SwayisGod
      @SwayisGod 8 років тому +3

      +owwwwcccchhhh Each to their own. I've got a more of a traditional Jazzmaster myself. I love the unique term and rhythm circuit on them. I guess it's about supply and demand, but I'm sure a lot of people want a USA standard JM!
      For me, a Jazzmaster with Humbuckers, a hardtail bridge and no rhythm circuit just seems...not very Jazzmaster like.
      I actually quite like the humbuckered mustang.

    Also, guys, even without the stacked humbuckers, Jazzmasters don't use P90s (the exception is the Squier J Mascis). P90s are built like PAF-style humbuckers. There's a magnet on the bottom, and adjustable pole pieces that aren't inherently magnetic over that. Jazzy pickups are like Strat pickups. The pole pieces themselves are the magnets. So: Jazzmaster pickups LOOK like P90s, but they're built like wide, flat Strat pickups. Jazzmaster pickups don't really sound anything like P90s. Like I said, the Squier J Mascis is an exception: its pickups are actually built like P90s, with adjustable pole pieces and a bar magnet. I think they did this because J uses LP Jrs (with P90s) to record.

    Humbuckers can be tapped, they just have a wire coming off before the end of the bobbin that removes winds. Makes it just a lower power humbucker

    Hi all from Tasmania/Australia. I'm an ex-pat British and would have loved to have seen a video view from Chappers lounge room of the English sea side. Also, could you perhaps play some different familiar tunes with your videos. Love the great work though.

    The Jazzmaster trem worked wonderfully for those that had a sound that necessitated that particular trem type. I think as Catdumpling points out in an earlier comment that the Captian is forgetting quite a few examples of some pretty successful bands that have used that particular trem to a great degree and effect.
