It really brought out the subtleties - the fuzz in particular tends to mask what is going on and you could hear the difference in this demo. On problem with Jazzmaster and Jaguar demos is the persistent tendancy reviewers to reach for a clean Fender amp with the reverb on full and play surf tunes. This makes it hard to understand what the guitar sounds like. Surf records sold a lot of offset guitars but years later they are appreciated for many other genres... It was cool the review demoed all kinds of.distortion. The only thing that would have been useful to know is if the pickups were stock as th Japanese Jazzmaster pickups are not true to the original and are more like Strat coils in a larg e bobbin and.cover. Real Jazzmaster pickups sound quite different. Best offset comparison video I've ever seen.
I have a Jazzmaster. At first I didn't get, but now I love it. It has a more subtle, compressed, tone than the others (or a strat), but it actually sits in the mix really well, and is incredibly versatile.
Hands down the best comparison video I’ve ever watched. No talking, no fishing for likes and subscriptions just pinpoint precise playing showcasing the different sounds on offer. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve come back to watch this just to enjoy the tasty playing.
Davide Romano The Fender Jazzmaster is my favorite,I love that sound,I consider that is the very best, but I like all the Fender guitar models,Fender is gold 😎😍
Jazzmaster seems the least restrained to me. Mustang comes next, then the Jaguar. It's the scale length followed by the metal pieces on the sides of the Jaguar pups, isn't it?
Overall favorite: Mustang. I used to have one of those CIJ '69 Reissues. It was a fun guitar but I sold it almost 10 years ago. Maybe one day I'll get another again.
Great comparison video. I like how you played the same licks for each guitar so we can actually hear how they sound, which is not something other youtubers do.
This is all I've ever wanted out of a comparison video. And the three guitars you compared I've been so curious to hear what they sound like side-by-side! Wonderful job. Really, really enlightening.
Loved the comparison! My favourite's definitely the Jaguar, though I enjoyed the Jazzmaster too. The Mustang felt a little weak to me at some points, but the overdriven neck pickup sound was really nice.
Felt to me like the player wasn't as comfortable on the Mustang, and that maybe the amp settings were kept the same when they should have been turned up. A lower-output guitar can still sound good, but if you play it with the same amp settings as a higher-output guitar, it's not gonna sound its best.
*Me* : Wow! After hearing them all side by side how could anyone ever choose anything but a _Jazzmaster_ *Entire comment section* : How could anyone choose anything but the _Jaguar_ ?
Had all three before, and now enjoy strats most. I'd say the Mustang and Jazzmaster where best then and now. Jaguar has so many issues aside from being over treble. It's more treble than a Tele, but has worse tuning issues than anything I've ever played or owned before or after. Terrible, repeat, terrible tuning issues. Jazz has longer scale length and thus, stays in better.
I've never realized the Jazzmaster had such a drier tone than the Jaguar...you always hear them drenched in effects, which is awesome but makes it difficult to understand their true tone...the Jazz sounds cool and peculiar but i'd undoubtedly go for the Jaguar's more melodic and 'complete' tone. Now i know which one is going to be my next guitar, i've been living in doubt for the last couple of years. Great demo and wonderful matching headstock models!
Filippo Mazzini that seems to be the problem with most of the video's made.it seems as though there covering them up with effects and don't let us hear the true sound of Any guitar.
Filippo Mazzini it's for sure a big difference, personally I prefer the p90s in the Jazzmaster, it's more of the sound I like and I like the new mustang 90 which has those pickups. But I learned on a Gibson so my ears prefer that little bit of extra edge in blues and jazz.
Filippo Mazzini I wouldn't say this is the most perfect example of a Jazzmaster's tone. This Japanese one seems to be stock which would mean that the pickups are actually strat-like and not true jazzmaster pickups
I absolutely love the sound of a Mustang (all my guitars are Mustang variations!). So fuzzy but it rolls seamlessly right up from droning on the deep strings to this quacky twang on the higher. Having that said that, the Jaguar sounds excellent in this video.
+nedavine The Jazz and the Stang are awesome niche guitars, but the Jag makes a sensational allrounder! Id like to hear the Jag or the Jazz with coily cables compared to the Stang.
+nedavine Jazzmaster has always been on my short list, never once thought about a Jaguar. Not anymore... Jag all the way now. Mustang... had a real '65 back in the 80s. No... no.
As a big fan of all these three guitar models (Jazzmaster in particular!) I can definitely say this is absolutely the best comparison video that can be found on youtube. Congrats!
I am really impressed with the way the Jaguar explodes at 2:17 with both pickups and the overdrive on!!! Killer player, too. Best guitars comparison ever.
The Jaguar is best for someone looking for the classic "Fender twang", the Mustang is best for someone who wants the clarity of a single coil pickup but without the extra twang/treble. The Jazzmaster is a good compromise in between, and for someone who doesn't want a short scale guitar but still wants an offset.
Jazzmaster's are a very volatile and varying beast, normally it's what I like best and it's what I own, but in this particilular case I'm digging that Jag. With Jazzmasters it really matters what make and model you go for in terms of what sound you want.
They all sounded really really good! And I love this dude’s playing and sound. I think it comes to personal preference. Mine is the Mustang, just warmer but still cuts through. Especially with the fuzz I prefer the Mustang. But honestly they all sounded damn good.
I have a '96 reissue mustang which i modified with a hot rails and a vintage rails and it's my fave of all. I own two other modified Strats. Something about a set of 10s on that weird non-thru body floating saddle with far-back bridge makes it sound so different and unique, yet readily able to tackle anything from jazz to extreme metal.
They all sound so good it's hard to pick which one's best. I really like the sound of the mustang here. I've owned all three and currently just have the Jazzmaster, but I plan on Having all three again at one time.
Fabricio Mailloles you see the beauty of the human race is that everyone can have a differing opinion and respect each-Nop yuiazu is canon I’ll fight u on Rust
Honestly sound wise I think they all just sound somewhat different and none of them are specifically better. It's just about what you want to do with them. On top of that the Mustang has the key advantage of being a smaller, lighter instrument; and for many people that can be a bigger priority than the sound. If you want something you can have around your shoulders for multiple hours at a gig or just something that's comfortable to pracitice with, you may well pick the Mustang even if you prefer the tone from the Jazzmaster.
Just adding to the list of compliments over your demo. The best comparison video I've ever seen. The only way it could ne bettered would be a minute or two of talking at the end where you're giving more details on the guitars themselves. Bravo, dudes.
The Jazzmaster sounds the best, but for the price difference the Jaguar really does well! Surprising how much the Mustang falls behind in this comparison though!
Just now seeing this video. Like many have said - they all sound great. I have a MIJ Jazzmaster and could not be happier. But the real star here is the quality of this video. Really good format and playing.!
I have both, the Jaguar and the Jazzmaster and i cannot say which one i like better. Each one has ist unique strength. This video is fantastic, thank you for your work!

This isn't the original version? There was a video (maybe a different that is now gone) with an insanely good metal section at the end, a la White Zombie. Would love to hear that again!
Kinda disappointing that you didn't use the rhythm circuit for the Jazzmaster and Jaguar, but besides that it's a great video. I liked the Jaguar and Mustang the most. In my opinion the Jazzmaster and Jaguar sounded fairly similar, but the jaguar sticked out a little more to me. Cool, I was surprised at the Jag v Jazz. I thought the Jazz sounded a bit honkier and I was expecting a little more bottom end? FUZZ or how to turn any $1000 guitar into a $59 guit/amp package from Walmart.
The red one sounded best.
Dude, what? The red one sucked. The _red_ one was the best.
True.
the one with the white pickguard sounded best to me though.
I actually reckon it was the one with the painted headstock
Come on folks, the one with strings on it was by far the best.
THIS is how guitar comparisons need to be done.
fuck yeah
The Jazmaster wins for me. Very nice, full, throaty sound.
klapaucjusz1 mustang wins imo
yep. the mustang is the winner for me but I'd love to get myself a jag and a jazzmaster too eventually.
It might be helpful to know if the modern copies sound anything at all like the originals.
If only all guitar comparison videos were done like this...
You ain't lying man.
I gotta girlfrieeeend

I really enjoy this guy's playing.
Kind of sounds like he would be a good fit in the RHCP
+mysteryjesus I hear you man, John Frusciante came to mind.
+mysteryjesus so true
i was like wow someone who isnt playing played out generic blues based rock
Or heavy metal, super speed, cross picking, shredding stuff that has no emotion.
This guy plays like a former metalhead whos favorite band is now modest mouse
It’s like looking in a mirror
brilliant LOL XD (and i see no problem with it, by the way, on the contrary)
Happens....I mean, look at Devin Townsend
I have a Jazzmaster.
At first I didn't get, but now I love it.

we just need this kind of comparison.. not long dull explanation
ps Tate I hate it when comparisons go oh but this guitars finish is so nice. then im thinking i dont care i just want the sound! -_-
Jazz master has more honk and treble
Mustang has a more deeper darker tone
Jaguar has a balance between the two which is why it's my favourite
thx for the point!
True
The jaguar sounds far better than the others, according to me. A more balanced sound between treble and bass
Yes exactly
It still has 5 different sounds to here too
I liked the jazzmaster. It has amazing sparkle.
Davide Romano The Fender Jazzmaster is my favorite,I love that sound,I consider that is the very best, but I like all the Fender guitar models,Fender is gold 😎😍

I am so grateful for this video. No BS, no irrelevant talking, to wasted time. Just right down to the comparison. Thank you!
Jazzmaster wins because of the bridge pickup. I love its soun!
and the Mustang is surprisingly good sounding
+oli pas I was surprised too. I'm a JM guy and I hate the way mustangs look.
oli pas that's exactly what I said too. marry me?
We need to know more about that guy playing.
Indeed, badass af
Judging by his reluctance to go near the 1st and 2nd strings, probably a bass player
Thermoboy he is bass player and Played in a band call vy pole from russia and he is manager at guitarra bank store
Ummmmm he isn’t actually playing a lot of that himself. He probably recorded it before hand. Sounded good but want actually him playing in the video

Same. The Jaguar really suited almost everything he played better for me.

Man, I love offset guitars
2:15 switching to the jag when the songs thicker chorus kinda section came in was a great move. Sounded awesome.
Really amazing video. Great side by side comparisons and you can really hear those differences. Also, some pretty nifty playing there too! LOVED THIS.
This has to be one of the best comparison videos of these 3 ever and I've suddenly realised I love mustangs.
Best vid for one who wasted his young life around ‘00, in a band, as a teen, in Tokyo.

Thank you.
Interesting how I end up here from time to time. And how I changed my mind from the Jazzmaster to the Jaguar as time went by.
probably the greatest comparison video on youtube
Jazzmaster had good highest, mustang was all muddy low ends and to me the jag sounded like the all rounder and tbh the best sounding...???
fucking sick video by the way
Literally the exact video I needed. I also appreciate that you included the sounds in the context of a full band.
Best guitar comparo I've ever seen. Advantage; Jaguar.
I've never known a Jaguar sounds this so good. Amazingly good. What a surprise
that was great. i realized how much I don't enjoy the jazzmasters tone when compared to the jaguar and mustang

overdrive:jaguar
fuzz:jazz

Incredible comparison format and probably the coolest playing I've ever seen on a guitar demo video
my favorite is definetly the jazzmaster, honestly it sounds just as good clean as the jaguar, but distorted it just sounds so dirty.

Best clean: Mustang Neck pickup
Best Overdrive: Jaguar Both pickups
Best Fuzz: All sounded the same
Rewatching the heck out of this as the song is so good. Would love to have tabs for that! Also: the Mustang kills it in everything distortion.
