Even 4 years later, your video helps an old guy like me understand rules, i'd never comprehend from the rulebook alone. Thank you.
As far as videos go that explain how board games work, yours are amazingly better than others that I've watched! It's like listening to a good friend explain it to you and not be condescending because you don't understand a concept.
Thanks! My philosophy is that nobody knows anything straight out of the womb, so why be jerky about learning something earlier than one of your fellow babies did?
@@NightsAroundaTable It's appreciated man; Keep it up.
Watched a couple of these for this game and yours was well put together. Very clear and nicely laid out. Thank you! I feel better equipped to play this game now.
Under appreciated channel for sure! He thought me Trickerion super well and that game is a tough teach
Late to the party on this game, but played it tonight with my wife and we both really enjoyed it. Your video was excellent, and made a very daunting game pretty easy to understand. Thanks!
Thanks, Ian! Glad you liked it. Such a fun game.
I wish I had been seen your video before the first time I played RFTG! I was at a gaming convention and sat down to experience the game. Me and another person were TOTALLY lost! The person who explained the game was TERRIBLE and just kept saying, "Well, what do you want to do?" I didn't KNOW what I wanted to do! In any case, I discovered later after buying my own copy that the game wasn't nearly as complicated or obtuse as I originally thought it was. Your video did a GREAT job of explaining how things happen in the game and how and why you do certain actions. SPACE BAG!!!
Thanks, Paul! It's definitely easier if you've played Race for the Galaxy, but then... learning Race is its own ball o' wax. :)
This video made my day. Well done. Can't wait to check out more :)
Nicely done! The extra effort with the animations added great value. Cheers
Thanks for this! My fiancée and I played RollFTG the other day and we had a blast!
Alright, having watched it, you explained this incredibly well! It all made sense all of a sudden! Thanks!
"i know kung fu!"
I watched that whole thing... again. Best how to play's out there!
Brilliant video, one of your best.
Thanks a lot for this very great video! Great work!
I had no idea Three Men and a Baby had a sequel! Wow... Also, uh, if you taught a game in this video, awesome work!
Love this game and love this channel. Thanks Ryan!
Thanks so much!
Great tutorial!
It's not a cheap game, why publishers can't hire proper graphic designers that understand how to work with colors, font types/sizes, etc.?
Thank you very much for this video, it's very good!
first time watching you. Subbed due to this video. Well done man
Thanks, eroc1024! Did you just get Race for the Galaxy?
@@NightsAroundaTable yep, got it to play for around the Thanksgiving time. Your video was fun, clear, and very helpful.
@@eroc1024 Oh good! The biggest tip i can offer, beyond learning all the iconography, is to scan each of your cards during every phase to double-check for special abilities.
Have fun!
No one is going to mention the Vonnegut joke? I almost spit coffee all over myself.
(and so it goes.)
lol! I bet you've been waiting 3 years to send that reply!
"This horribly-named area with a stick figure flipping you off" LOL
"in semaphore" lol
The best tutorial 😂
Your video is way better than the one they used for Board Game Arena. I will always check to see if you have a video for whatever game I am trying to learn to play.
Thanks! i approached Arena about embedding my vid on their site but, as they say in board games, “no dice.”
@@NightsAroundaTable What the hell? Well that's a shame! Like Jeremy, we watched the BGA one, but when we tried to play, we were lost the entire game. It was a total waste of time and we were very discouraged. Now we feel prepared to try again. Well, thanks anyway!
Yeahh... the manual was the reason I looked this up :P I mean I'm not someone who's shying away from a manual like that, but my friends would probably not have the patience
Lol. Every time he said SPACE BAG! I giggled. Awesome.
:)
Hello Ryan. Have you got plans on making tutorials for Race for the Galaxy expansions?
The problem with expansion vids is that it whittles your audience down really small. Anyone can watch a base game video, but generally only people who a) own the game and b) own or are interested in a particular expansion (in this case, i believe there are five…?) will watch. i spent a lot of time and effort making videos for the Roll for the Galaxy expansions, and they have a disappointingly low view count.
But if the base game views are high enough (like with this one), i may consider it. How to play Catan: Cities & Knights did very well.
“Space bag!”
i agree!
Too funny
Made me gigglesnort!
What do you think of Tiny Epic Galaxies and Roll For The Galaxy? They seem to have a lot in common (Obviously TEG has taken a lot of inspiration from RollFTG), however, I do feel TEG is a lot simpler and more streamlined? I have played only TEG, but can anyone tell me which is the more satisfying and fun(not necessarily "better") game?
They feel like very different games to me, and honestly, i've never made that connection! Depsite dice! And space!
i LIKE Roll, but i LOVE TEG. i think TEG has a lot more in common with King of Tokyo, which itself traces its roots back to Yahtzee (which, before being branded, was a free homebrew game called Yacht. It's turtles all the way down!).
TEG has a much higher degree of player interaction thanks to racing for planets and those planetary powers, whereas Roll is multiplayer solitaire. The only real shared element in Roll is the... SPACE BAG! i like Roll, but since i prefer playing WITH people instead of NEXT to them, i'll always gravitate (SPACE JOKE!) towards games with more player interaction than less. If you're like me, you might prefer TEG to Roll. But they're both solid games. It's down to taste.
@@NightsAroundaTable thanks for the very punny and witty reply. You were on a ROLL there with those puns 😉 I have played TEG and it's a very fun game. I think I'll stick to it and not get RollFTG so that I can save some SPACE in my board game shelf 😏 I also tried following Tiny Epic Western, but was too convoluted for me. TEG is so simple, I could teach my friends in about 5 minutes having them understand everything the very first time I explained it to them 😁 thanks for the reply 😀
@@5ammy13 Right - i have heard anecdotally that Galaxies is easily the best of the TE games. i also own Tiny Epic Quest, but i find it a bit of a misery to play, and i can't quite articulate why.
I own it too. Unboxing video is in my channel.
This is the 4th video I've watched and I'm still not 100%. Currently playing on boardgamearena dot com and my mash the button technique is working ok.
What's not connecting for you? Maybe i can help.
That later phases, export and shipping? And just how powers on tiles work, I'm guessing passively once in the tablu. Should probably read the manual on bgg.
@@DrDribs Every planet can have at most 1 good on it. It gets a good on it if a card gives you a produce power during the produce phase to PUT a good on itself (or another planet). You represent a good with just a face-down card. If a planet has a good, you can ship it in the shipping phase. You get either points or "money" (cards) for shipping a good off a planet.
The crucial tip is that during any given phase, look at that phase on each card in your tableau, and it'll tell you if the card gives you any special abilities or benefits. So, are we doing Phase II right now? Look beside the Roman numeral II on all the cards in your tableau. Repeat for any phase that gets chosen/activated in this round.
You look like Sylvester Stalone. great vid
That's a new one! i usually hear Russell Crowe.
@@NightsAroundaTable Yep! I definitely see that too!
You remind me of Brian Quinn from Impractical Jokers :-D
FUN FACT: Brian and i both love cats and wear black t-shirts. Brian, however, is gainfully employed and famous.
Haha in time my friend, someone will say that Brian reminds them of of you and not the other way round 😂
How is it that the Dice Tower hasn't poached you for your talents yet?
They do seem to devour a lot of board game-related UA-camrs, don't they? Perhaps i missed their period of aggressive acquisition.
"Space Bag!"
They see me rollin'...
You down with Galaxy? (Yeah, you know me)
SPACE BAG!!!
SPACE BAG!!!
@@NightsAroundaTable thank you so much for your concise, fun, clear explanation of how to play - such a heaven send. So glad I found you. All subscribed now. I just finished my first game of roll for the galaxy, i really like it - although I do love deck/bag management. Fella was expecting to be rolling a lot more dice, but I am sure the more we play, the more unlocking/settling/developing we will master :) thank you again.
@@KNic0lson Aw - thanks, Kate! More ACTUAL dice, or more frequent rolls? i do hope you're rolling every turn (?)
Extra dice are all down to the tiles you prioritize.
@@NightsAroundaTable just more dice in the cup. So just need to settle more worlds :)
@@NightsAroundaTable and yes dont worry we are rolling every turn ... :S even if often thats just one lonely dice :P
We will get better at engine building.
Also didnt realise to trigger diamond technologies as much as we shouldve
This game looks a little too technical to me, unfortunately. :/ I think I'll probably stick with Tiny Epic Galaxies for a similar game feel, but with simpler mechanics.
You can’t go wrong with TEG! Great game.
at 8:00 minutes you turned that 1 card on purpose to mess with us didn't you!!!
OK Good explanation. The "Space Bag" segment can go though
no u
The "space bag" thing was annoying.
It's a step up from the rough cut, which was just a full fifteen minutes of me yelling "SPACE BAG!"
@@NightsAroundaTable I'm only saying that because I had headphones on and it just popped out of nowhere so many times unexpectedly. Thanks for the video.
@@hooshyarkarimi9524 You're very welSPACE BAG!!
Nights Around a Table I smell a Patreon exclusive.... That’d tempt me!
