I’ve been using the Ace Pro for about 8 months and had opportunity to take it on one dive trip to the Caribbean. I found the footage to be high quality and the colors to be good without significant shifts underwater. Also, the clarity zoom feature is very nice as you can get 2x zoom and maintain 4K capture (must save as a preset to use in the dive case). I too would prefer 10-bit color, but if given the choice between 10 bit color and the larger sensor, I’ll take the larger sensor (both would be best). I would also love to see a good macro filter for the dive case.
Thanks for sharing your experience buddy. Yeah, we a lot of cameras we have to make compromises based on our preferences. The perfect camera for everyone simply doesn't exist. Good tip on having the clarity zoom as a preset so you can access it while underwater. 👍🏻
I heard some rumors that AOI developed a new adapter, so you can use the AOI UWL-03 to Ace Pro. I use this wide angle correction lens with GoPro 12 and it's the best accessory for action cameras. It corrects the corner distortions and reduce close focusing distance to few cm.
What do you mean with „scuba light probes“?!? Underwater video lights? If shooting mid shots or close ups, set your WB to the color temperature of your video lights.
They are both good cameras, especially in shallow waters (so for snorkeling or shallow skin diving). If you're going to be using it without a housing (which you can with both down to at least 11 meters) you might find the flip screen on the Ace Pro beneficial when framing selfie shots. 😉
I'm hesitant to replace a much older GoPro with a backscatter red filter system, but the Ace Pro looks so appealing. How does it do at a depth of 10 meters and below without a red filter? Is an external light source the only option?
It does quite okay in my opinion. Better than the current GoPro models. The colors are mostly fine, but like any camera, especially action cams which have smaller sensors, the deeper you take it the more it struggles. You don’t need a light with it as long as you are okay with the colors turning out less intense/vibrant below 15 meters. But that’s the same with every action cam. Otherwise a very nice, well working action cam for your underwater adventures. 👍🏻
I just upgraded to the ace pro from GP Hero 7. Haven't tried it under water yet, but can't wait to see the difference. What is your view on the aquavision 2.0 feature in the app? The app seems to be a big advantage because it is so easy to use.
You will definitely see a big difference in quality from the (fairly old GoPro Hero 7) to the Insta360 Ace Pro. In regards to the aquavision 2.0, I think it's a nice feature and it can help you correct your footage without having to manually go through the color correction process. What I don't like about it is, that you have to activate it on every single video clips individually in the app. I would prefer to be able to select the aquavision 2.0 in camera and have the correction applied on each of the clips automatically as I record them and they get saved on the card. Maybe an improvement they can implement in future firmware updates.
@@Midnightquinn that’s very difficult to say, as we are talking about two very different devices. For wide angle shots an action cam like the Ace Pro is probably better and easier, but on medium and especially close up shots a modern smartphone is in advantage, with it’s multiple lenses and higher versatility.
In a month or so, GoPro HERO13 Black and DJI Osmo Action 5 will be released. I think it's better to wait and see. Maybe at that time Insta360 Ace Pro will be cheaper. Or the new Cameras will be your best option.
The Hero 9 is a rather old action cam and the newer ones definitely outperform it in terms of specs (resolution, frame rate, stabilization, etc.) and quality of footage. If you're looking for a new action cam and the specs of the Insta360 Ace Pro are appealing to you/meet your needs, the current 22% discount make it a very attractive choice in my opinion.
I guess you're not wrong, but you can always wait for the next generation of any camera. If the Ace Pro has the specs and features you're looking for or need, then I think the current deal (22% off) is very good and I don't think it will get any better once the new models of GoPro and/or DJI will hit the market.
The video quailty underwater is ok, but photo quality in max resolution is horrible. I returned my Ace Pro, as I want photo in full quality and not export from video.
I understand and agree. Action cams are simply not the best choice for underwater photos. They are primarily video cameras that do photos as well, but their focus is clearly on the video side and that's also where they perform best.
The minimal focusing distance doesn't change underwater. What changes is the object appearing closer and larger at the same distance compared to above water, but this doesn't change the minimum focusing distance.
What is your experience with the Insta360 Ace Pro when used underwater?

Good video, the Ace Pro is on sale here in Finland, propably because they are rumored to be releasing Ace Pro 2 soon 😊
That would be a nice thing. Curious as to what the rumored Ace Pro 2 will give us. 🤗🤔

This would be quite welcome if it turns out to be available for Ace Pro.
Thanks for bringing this up mate. I'm not aware of such an adapter, but it would certainly be a greatly appreciated and well used I guess.

Do you have any suggestions about better settings for filming with scuba light probes? Thank you for your precision and competence

Hi thanks for review, dji action 4 or ace pro for you? For snorkling or apnéa ? Thanks

How does this compare to a smart phone like an iPhone housed?
