20 years ago now wow. Memo is back in the driver seat for us at TKO Motorsports, racing with SRO GT America in a Bentley... we are back next weekend if any Memo fans want to watch!
He was racing Karts in 1982. He became airborne and hit the bottom of the bridge with his helmet. Lots of broken bones, internal injuries and no more brain activity. My parents pulled the plug after 3 days. It was a life changer for my family. Godspeed Mark Fischer.
That's what can happen when you try to correct a skid. The car catches up and heads in the direction the front wheels are pointing. That is what happened to Gordon Smiley at Indy.

The livery ya’ll are running on gidleys GT america merc is a classic
They installed a bridge there, but Gidley didn't get the Memo...
Fortunately the bridge is gone now, replaced by a tunnel. Memo was very fortunate that it wasn’t worse.
I see what you did there
Seems like if Memo Gidley is going to crash he has to make sure it’s a big one
Memo Gidley really doesn't do accidents by halves.
Memo was lucky to be alive after that crash. Incredible.
I was right across the track from this accident. Really scary! So happy Memo was okay.
Did that Scott Dixon kid ever amount to anything?
He didn't make to F1 so no!!! XD
P.s I heard unconfirmed reports that he got real good in American racing apparently!!!
Married an 800m runner, apparently.
Not as bad as his crash at Daytona. I raced karts with him for several years. Great driver. Nice guy. Glad to see he’s back racing again.
I think this was worse, that wall was full concrete so the g forces were likely much higher.
Is that Jeremy Shaw?
Yes, Jeremy Shaw and Guy Hobbs (son of David Hobbs)
My brother died in an accident with that bridge in 1982.
Michael Fischer sorry to hear that. What was his name? What happened?

So sad to hear about your brother. RIP.
R.I.P
Michael Fischer I cant find any proof of this unless I am dumb. Can you link me some
Amazing how nobody before thought a massive concrete wall there was ok.
Yeah luckily that is no longer there jesus
Note to self , bare concrete walls = not good
The right-side tires are beginning to load for a left turn, and he hit the right-side curb to lose traction and suspension stability.
"Then rushing through, the paris night, they hounded you, you lost control..."
This guy keeps getting in these scary crashes. Daytona 2014
Wow! That was a brutal impact
it would have looked like Chris van der Drift
bullshit. he didn't hit the bridge he hit the retaining wall and yes they are two different things
Didn't make much difference to Memo.
@@sixmile2360 still, all the people saying it’s good they removed the bridge are wrong, he didn’t hit it.
Fuck! That was horrific. Glad he was eventually all good and ok
Ouch.
He turned it HARD right
