I made it to every Can-Am at my home track, Mosport, which is near my home of Toronto. We always stood at the inside entry to corner 2 which was a bit of a legend in the series. Over the years we made it to 6 or 7 other tracks, including twice to Road America - a long 10 hour drive from Toronto. With the lower safety standards for spectators in those days you felt like you could reach out and touch the cars - and you could literally feel the roar of the motors in your feet. I love all kinds of racing but nothing quite honestly approaches the Can-Am of my youthful summers.

I lived in a resort for half a year and a lot of the drivers stayed there and I remember they'd all let me sit in their cars. That place was HEAVEN.

Thanks for the video. I was 12 in 1967 and watching Speed Racer on UHF TV not knowing those animations were based on USRRC and these early Can-Am cars. In 1970 at 15 with no DL, I took a Greyhound bus to Laguna Seca to attend my 1st race, a F5000, thenTrans-Am and Can-Am races over the next couple years Witnessed the Porsche Turbo Panzer destroy the Chevy powered competition at Laguna Seca. The end of an era.

I was at Road America for all the Can-Am races there. What a great series.

A great snapshot of a short period in
the late 60's when the Can-Am Series
brought out the best in technical
    innovations, with the brilliant designs
of Bruce McLaren and Jim Hall, and
the dominant engines of Ford & Chevy.

I was 11 years old when I saw this race. I grew up 20 miles from RA. The CanAm series was amazing on track and you could buy a pit pass and just stand in the pits next to teams working on their cars. Jim Hall's car with the wing, the papaya McClaren, all the great drivers. Thank you for the video !

Always loved how inventive this whole series was, from the Chaparral to the Shadows to the monster of the 917/30’s! Speed and power.

I just love these old videos! The Can-Am cars were Monsters and equaling as fast of an F1 car of it's time. 🏁

Denny just loved these cars. I have seen an interview where he was talking about the cars he drove & these cars were his favourites.

“ A normal car done abnormally well” I remember reading that in Road & track about the McLaren as a teenager.

I remember Mario telling a story about the Honker Ford he was driving it had Paul Newman's name on it. Mario was so frustrated with the handling and performance he told Paul lets put my name on it and you drive it!🏁😆

Though I never got you see a Trans Am race. I have seen a BBC powered Lola running in the SCCA. That car destroyed all comers, passing 5 cars or more per lap. By the end of the hour long endurance race, I bet he lapped the entire field 3-4 times.

Sorry for being an ignorant European, but what is the name of the presenter? Sounds a bit like Paul Linnman.
This is top class soul delivered here!

Don't apologize Sir. Yep. Chris was the voice of motor racing for us in the states in the 60s and 70s. We were lucky to have him.
What was the name of the British F1 presenter for many years? Was it Murray? He was fantastic in bringing the races to life.
