It’s great for freshwater and light saltwater use. If you’re looking for a saltwater reel primarily, I suggest they’re new Alloy X. I will be doing a review soon.
After watching your review of the Viper X, I went and bought one. I just received my Viper X 2000 in the mail a few days ago. I was playing with the drag tonight and noticed the sound wasn't consistent, nor the drag being smooth. I took off the spool and looked at that drag bell mounted under it. It was installed off-center with the screw holes clearly showing they were tapped in the wrong locations with one visibly showing the drill bit skating across the surface. Yet, the person who installed the drag bell did it incorrectly anyway. I had to fix this mistake by centering the drag bell, rotating it 90 degrees from where it was, so that the two flanges without holes covered up the incorrectly positioned screw holes. Then, I centerpunched the new hole locations, took it to my drill press, and tapped 2 new screw holes, and reinstalled the drag bell. Now, it's perfectly centered with consistent drag sound, and smooth drag pull. While I like the reel, and I bought 3 Alloy Xs and 2 Alloy Ms (again, after watching your videos on them), it's shit like this that pisses me off about any company that has the potential to be great, but blows it by hiring people who don't give 2 fucks about quality, nor take pride in workmanship.
i just picked one up and haven’t used it yet. it’s supposedly rated for 33pound of drag. i’m pairing it with their 30lb braided line and i’m gunna try it today.
I just received the 500 model yesterday for ultralight fishing. It’s my first Piscifun, and I’m very impressed with initial quality, especially for the ridiculous low price.
You just helped me make a decision. I was stuck between a 3000 or 4000. I have a MH 7' 3/8- 1oz rod, 8-14lb. I wanted to use for beefier jigs/spinners In fresh water, maybe some cats and similar fishing you are doing here. I'm getting the 4000.
Nice to see that you have had a good experience with their products. Unfortunately, I can't say the same. I bought a Viper II as a back up spinning reel and the arm snapped on the 3rd bass I hooked. I contacted them and it was out of the 30 day return policy and they didn't want to do anything about it. So then I wrote a review with pictures of the broken reel and they tried to get me to purchase a new one and offered me a small discount if I delete my review. I said I wasn't interested in purchasing another one. After about a week of arguing they finally agreed to refund me if I deleted my review. I didn't want to delete it but also wanted my money back. On another note, Liam is fighting those snook like a boss!
Sorry to hear about that. I’ve heard a couple stories like that. I suspect they’ve upgraded their more recent products, because I haven’t had a problem with any of the reels I have.. the Phantom, Phantom X, Alijos, and Viper X. Yeah Liam will be better than me in no time!
Are you still using the viper x. Has it still held up? I am looking to buy one. I saw your long term review on the piscifun alijoz and I really appreciated that one. Keep it up. I like the content.
Thanks! Yes, it’s working great and I’ve used it a lot. I like it so much I bought a second one. If they ever come out with a metal version, I’ll buy that too.
Those ladies from the beginning really are slayers lol they are out there usually every morning I can make it out there and always have pictures. Reel seems solid too, good work!
Can you tell me where is the maintenance port located on the reel I have the viper 5000 it talks about it in the maintenance in manual but I don't see what they're talking about..thanks enjoyed your review
How has it held up against the salt over the year? Thats my biggest worry. I dont live in an ocean state, but when I get to visit FL friends I dont want to have to be hyper concerned about my reel.
I have two of them. One is perfectly fine, one has stiffened up. I use them 100% saltwater though, so I think you’ll be fine if you fish half and half.

U notice it is a cheap reel too?
Why didn't you return it? Just wanted to tinker?
@@Scarekrow24 Yep, and I fixed it.
For a $50 reel, that drag sure sounds sweet. Hopefully it can hold up against those Snook. That oversized handle knob looks super comfy.
It’s surprisingly nice for the price 💰

Great video. Very informative. If you want to test your equipment put it in the hands of a Florida fisherman. We break stuff. Keep on Fishing
You know it!! 😂🤣👊

@@phytobedo Awesome, thanks to your review I will be purchasing this reel!!
You’ll like it!

Yes
@@phytobedo thanks
Lol your son is awesome! Glad to see a young kid fishing, not that common today. He handled those snook like a pro. Good job

You might want to consider the Alloy X if you’re worried about saltwater. I have a review vid on that as well.
@@phytobedo fantastic ill check it out!
What is your opinion a year later on this reel??
Excellent for freshwater. One of mine got stiff after using it in saltwater for 6 months. For a saltwater reel, I’d recommend the Alloy X
Hey what rod would you recommend for that reel??! Great video my man!!
Just personal preference as far as the rod goes. You can check out the rod I have in the video. Around the 4:00 min mark
@@phytobedo thank you!
Just got one of these for bluefish. Gonna put it together with a 9 ft berry pro surf rod. Thanks for the review.
👍
@@phytobedo Liked and subbed too man. Like your videos. It sucks living up here in the north around this time of year lol.
Thank you, I bet it does!
Now that the slayers are gone 😂

Haha, thank you Jeff!!
Well done with the review, wow Liam with the dock flip! Lol That was great!! That last Snook had that reel singing...ZZZZZzzz music to my ears!
Thanks Mark! Yeah Liam is a bold little dude 😂, and yes the drag is sweet!
👍
