Great info Phil. Drake's Detailing (boats only) explains how using a magic eraser the proper way can clean faster and safer. Lithium Cleaning Cubes are melamine sponges with their solution, but at the end of the day the melamine is doing most of the work with lubricant.
Hey man, I agree with you. The problem with many detailers especially in social media is they act like Gatekeepers or they believe they know everything. Knowledge is key but common sense and pragmatism is the name of the game. I like critical thinking, like asking what's the worst that can happen, try it in an inconspicuous spot? I also use magic erasers both on interiors and exteriors.
Nice to see what causes that(the look of the plant) because we don't have that in our island. I tried what Yvan Lacroix told me using Peanut oil and it did wonders on my brother's car with little effort. I know it is something not many use but it worked for me doing my brother's car in Florida. I have used the magic sponge for glass a lot and didn't have to polish it after removing water spots 😜😜 I also have the Honeycombination which Brian Spitler showcased them some time before JONNY SHIELL
Hi phil . Derrick from vt here . Good video . Ive used both methods and perfer the eraser . I also have used S.A.P , surface and paint prep , from malco . Works well on fungus that hadnt been on long . SAP works great on pine pitch , overspray , line paint ect ... . Any customers that come in with fungus or pitch i dont worry marring being i tell customer it will need to be polished at some level anyway . Keep up the good work .
Wow. I dont have that fungus. I hope! There is plenty of mulch around the yard, though. Yeah......unfortunately i try to convince my friends and family to hand wash their vehicles, but that just doesn't happen. After about a year or so, i get the vehicle back, and it's pretty bad. I can only polish just so much. The worst one was a coating that i put on that was just chewed up by automatic car wash brushes. Oh well. I just might have to try Pans polish. Looks like good stuff. Thanks for the video. Hi wife!
I use magic eraser’s on glass all the time. Light fresh water spots, it works great. It’s usually the first thing I try before I move onto polishing. Obviously it won’t scratch glass but they do work for other things too.
Are you guys thinking about going mobile again? I miss those videos, especially since we can relate more. I know you are speaking from experience, but it will reinforce what we do as mobile detailers. Thanks for sharing all this knowledge.
Never realized what these spots were. I have an older white f150 and it gets covered in these. The wierd thing is that it doesn't affect my red truck which is parked in the same area.
I saw a video about 6 years ago where the magic eraser was used as a sort of cleaner/degreaser on interior glass followed by Stoners glass cleaner - So Mr Clean is hanging in there!!! Would you use it on bug guts if cleaners/bug removers failed? I remember waaaay back when we would take a damp, used, bounce dryer sheet to remove the bugs. What do you think?
Used a magic eraser and WD40 to remove wrong color touch up paint someone used on the car before I bought it and was surprised that it didn’t do more marring than it did. On same vehicle used a different magic eraser on the inside and only on the front seat cushions could see dye getting transferred onto the eraser. I figured I did something wrong but only happened on the front so I had mixed feelings about it. Months later had to do work under the dash and found overspray under it on the floor defrost ducts like someone dyed the glove box and kick panels. Guessing they dyed the front seats and that’s why I got dye transfer on the front only.
Why do no Americans ever use Scholl S20 black? I have zero affiliation. But I bet that it would have been 30% better. Especially on white or silver paint etc.
@ you take a piece of sand paper and round the corners of the razor blade then hone the razor blade on the wind shield using ceramic gloss. Yvan and Nick from DIY Detailing have a video on it. It’s the coolest thing I’ve seen in a while.

Interesting. Peanut oil just spread it on the area and wipe? What was ur process?
If peanut oil would remove it then u wouldn’t have to polish. That would be pretty cool. I have never seen this fungus… kinda hope I don’t.
Great video Phil and great telling it like it is. Magic Eraser truly has many uses.

Hi. Thanks for the product is this bit.ly/4g47lsR

Hi. Well at this point we sold our trailer and second vehicle and don’t have plans to doing mobile again. Sorry.
Another Banging Video 🎉
Thanks man!

Hi Phil. What product did you use for the foam? Thank you👍
Hi. It was the Adam’s Foam and wash. Shown at minute 3:28.
Hi Phil Joe here
Keep up the hard work
Out of curiosity, did you try a plastic blade as well.?
Hi. Oh yeah. That works at getting the top of the fungus off but not the flat anchor.

Hi. So you probably could use the eraser on the bugs, but usally I just polish them if they are stuck or etched in.
So what do you do if to get rid of these if you have matte paint that you can’t polish?
Yeah that would be horrible. I haven’t had to deal with that yet. Dr bealseys has a strong mate cleanser that I would have to try on it.

Ah yes! That’s usually what happens is it was re-dyed. I have never had factory leather or plastic transfer on the magic sponge. Thanks for sharing!
another thing i found by accident that works for these is steam.
We have used that before and it works on fresh stuff. But older stuff it didn’t seem to work for us. But that’s a good option also.
Artillery fungus really sucks, I get it here too.
It really does!!
Why do no Americans ever use Scholl S20 black? I have zero affiliation. But I bet that it would have been 30% better. Especially on white or silver paint etc.
Hi. Some Detailer do, it’s just not as popular here in the US I guess. Everyone has their favorites. Thanks
Bottom line? protect the car paint, even a cheap $15 paint sealant will make the cleaning it X10 easier 🙂
Very true, and keep away from mulch!
Can you purchase the glove box one time? not a professional
Yeah you can.
Razor blade work best and you don’t mar the paint.
How do you prep the razor blade?
@ you take a piece of sand paper and round the corners of the razor blade then hone the razor blade on the wind shield using ceramic gloss. Yvan and Nick from DIY Detailing have a video on it. It’s the coolest thing I’ve seen in a while.
Cool! I thought so. I learned that trick a while ago too.
