  • In this video we clean up our 1981 Chevrolet Malibu classic. It has a 305 V8 four barrel and an automatic transmission. This car has been parked for 25 years, it is covered in mold and mildew. It made a huge difference, I was really surprised at how good of shape the car is in. Stay tuned for more videos on this g body.

    Probably because I’m an 80’s kid, but those body styles with the somewhat luxurious interiors always catch my eye. Had an ‘88 caprice when I was younger. Now we have the ‘89 suburban as our project truck. Have a 454 short block that would look good in the Malibu.

    You can use a bumper jack to break down tire beads. Comes in handy for those tough ones. Place the base on the bead and hook the top into the bumper and start jacking. Use the weight of the vehicle to break the bead.

    • @Sleeperdude
      @Sleeperdude  2 роки тому +2

      I have used them for that

    • @offhandacoustic
      @offhandacoustic 2 роки тому +3

      I use a floor jack and a ratchet strap. Hook the strap under the jack, thread it through the rim (through a spoke or the center) and it hook it to the other side of the jack. Get the cup lined up right at the bead and tighten the ratchet until the tire starts to cave a little and then start jacking like youre lifting a car and the bead should break fairly quickly. Saved me hours of fighting an old tire off a steel rim.

    That was a nicely equipped attractive car when it was new: white, maroon top, body side moldings, cloth interior, air, automatic, v8, stereo. About as good as the average car got in 1981. I’d like to think the front Rally wheels were original...probably not. All that’s missing are body color sport mirrors. Nice. Love a good pressure washing video.

    Another great video, Josh. There’s something about the cleanup videos that’s very satisfying. It’s amazing how much damage could be avoided if people just cleaned out the cowl, door jams, and hood and trunk surrounds each time they wash the car, especially if it’s stored outside under trees etc. Also, making sure the drain holes in the bottom of the doors are clear is huge.
    I just thought of one more question for your livestream, I don’t recall you ever telling us what your wife’s first name is? I know you refer to her as wifey, honey, mama, etc. but I’d like to know her name. Maybe I just missed it? Take care.

Yes 267 lots took out put in 305 2 or 4 barrel carb, 350 with 4 plus rare seen 400 truck motor 4 barrel only was option, and 454 with 4 barrel too in those Chevrolet Malibu or Monte Carlo cars ! But rare motor seen in them was Buicks two motors were 3.8 litre V6 231 basic or 252 high horsepower and torque! Most those cars had Metric Turbo 250 Power Glide 2 speed Automatic transmission, Turbo 350 3 speed Automatic transmission same size set up 250 transmission , Turbo 400 3 speed Automatic transmission was option and Hydromatic Turbo 700SR 4speed Overdrive Automatic transmission too , plus very option was Manual Floor shifter in H pattern of 3 in tree to had Bow Low First gear and 3 gear was Overdrive ! Plus year later some people put Racing Clutch for better performance on Manual transmission shifting ! Some them had Tilt Steering for Option , steel whip on front right fender for Am/ Fm radio antenna plus radio like to ! Also rear end gears heard lots them had 255 to 411 ratio in posi or not but most common was 373 to 377 in posi type ! Also some option were Air Conditioning and Tilt Steering too ! Also Josh can tell the Am/FM radio antenna hard get but if have Speedy Auto Glass company near you or go to Honda or Toyota dealerships asking for back Window DeForest Grid Antenna for Radio in vans you get one installed!

    Hell I wouldn't mind having that Malibu-tay. I'd fix that roof, the various dents, replace the tail lights and that front turn signal, replace the brakes all the way around, yank that 305, clean and possibly repaint the engine bay, fix any holes in the floors, build a nice high compression LS for it with a Tremec 6060, and I'd probably slam it on Tarmacs and daily it (that's an old Haggard Garage reference). It'd probably get a nice suspension upgrade all the way around (not slammed, just lowered an inch) with some of those steel wheels that are on the front driver side that look like they're off of an old Camaro RS. It'd be a cool old cruiser.

Ralphie's come a long way in helping you in just a short amount of time I've been watching:) Seeing as you're so good at getting these old vehicles running...I have a question for you. I have a 1983 Coachman Leprechuan Class C motorhome. Kind of like the one you been working on. I've had it about 6 years now & go on 4-6 camping trips with it every summer. But every year it ends up in a repair shop because it totally loses power going up hills & stalls out & won't start again. I have spent around $3000 between all the repair shops who claim they have fixed the problem. It will be ok for a little while then it happens again. Had new fuel filters & just about everything they could think of done to it. Do you have any idea of what the problem could be? Would really appreciate your input.....thank you!

    In 1981 it was available with either the 267 with two barrel which made 118 HP or 305 with quadrajet which made 150. In 82 the 5.7 Diesel was added as an Option.

    Next time you clean/wash a vehicle , try using MR CLEAN sponges. I've used them a truck that had alot of rust on the painted surface. After that just washed and it looked great.

    just looking at all the little details such the plastic molding behind the front bumber and stuff, my first car which was an 81 olds cutlass, if you removed all the chevy emblems and changed the tail lights you could have a hard time disguishing between the two.. another great video yall and if yall wanna sell the malibu hit me up

    my parents had a mid 1970 malibu 4 door with an inline 6. I blew the motor in it, it had been acting up and of course it decided to throw a rod through the block when i borrowed it. God bless my mom when she said, she knew something was wrong with it and didn't blame me

    In the mid 90's my dad had a 80 malibu 4 door (blue) with the Chevy 4.3 v6, it burned oil like a mosquito fogger. He took the v6 out to rebuild it and found out why it burned so much oil, well the problem was the oil drain back holes in the heads were plugged up with sludge, and the oil would pool in the heads and leak past the valve stems..LOL, since he had the motor out already, he rebuilt it anyway, he used to get 25 mpg commuting to Tampa everyday!

    Just found this channel. This video is a trip down memory lane for me. First car I ever drove was identical to this. Year, make model colors everything. It's like my brother in law parked it in the woods and forgot about it. Personally I hope you save it. I've daily driven alot worse cars than this lol. Keep up the good work you, Ralphie, wawa and beautiful wife. New subscriber here

    I bought a 2005 Buick Century last year from a grandma. It only had 14,879 miles on it. Got it for $3,000 It was sitting under a tree and had crap like this on it. It looked so good from a pressure wash. A good hand scrubbing and it’s looks so good. Southern car. NO RUST. Had to put new Rotors on the car and tires. Got offered $6000 a week later. Nope going to keep this on for my daughter. It runs and drives and looks great.
