Bob, one situation I find myself in with Worcester is that I’m scouting on a flank with no friendly DD, and I’m on the frontline. Suddenly, an enemy DD or CV spots me, and enemy BBs and CAs start shooting at me. I go bow in towards the general direction where the enemy is bunched up. Now, I can’t go undetected fast enough, and can’t really turn fast without taking much damage from enemy team. What should I do in such a situation?
I’ve tried reversing, but even then the enemy team takes half my HP.
In that situation I would turn ASAP, the BB's have shot they first salvoes at you and that means you might be finishing your turn once their next salvo is ready. If you go bow in they will wait until you either get flanked or forced to turn. Worcester has somewhat decent armor (troll armor) and you can get really lucky sometimes.
It's one of those situation, where you have to take a chance. Sometimes reversing bow in works, but if you are the only target that is in range, they will easily sink you

I will say one thing is that Buffalo probably would have done the same here. Des Moines is good but if you want maximum HE spamming and AP slapping, Buffalo will do that better than Des Moines. However if you wanna support a team and bow tank, Des Moines all the way
in a one on one comparison between worcester and des miones I'd say I find des moines kind of boring
