People started calling this genre bullet heaven and ngl it's a pretty cool name
Well that's the first time I've heard of it and you can count me in as one of those people. That's the perfect name
I like that
Agreed.
Think splattercat coined that term for them, yeah.
That is a cool name fsure.
If you want to scratch the vampire survivors itch, go get halls of torment, like 5 bucks and it's so good
Yeah it's good but very little content in it too.
I completed the game in 15 hours, and if I had an idea of what I was doing I could've done it in under 10. (I actually had no clue about the altar and the wellkeeper first few hours).
You nailed it. Part of what made vampire survivors amazing was the dirty cheap price tag. Every clone with better graphics wants way too much for too little content.
To be fair, VS has a VERY unique personality, everything feels suiting to the game, not too serious but also not stupid.
Really nice easter-eggs, charaters, items & 'story'.
It just feels 'Complete' and well thought out, more 'soul", not just a grindy top-down bullet hell.
That's my 2 cents anyways.
Not that other 'Survivors' games cant be good, i really like "Soulstone Survivors" as well.
Not really any story or as much content as VS, but its satisfying to play, you can make some nice builds and each charater plays wildly different from each others, and now factor in each of them have ~3 weapons that then again changes how they play.
Time Wasters is a better game for me.
You're comparing the price of a pixel game to a 3D game, whhaaaaat?
@@Blazingwheel Everyone can make a 3D game in Unreal, without any coding or modelling.
Vampire Survivors have hand crafted & unique Sprites and animations.
@@BlazingwheelI think that’s the point though: just increasing graphical fidelity doesn’t make up for dramatically less content. If it had comparable content, fine, I’ll pay for better graphics. But I’m not trading down to a shallow game. It’s a wait and see for me.
Mack - Drink as much water as you can stand before a blood test. It plumps up your veins and makes it way easier for the technician to tap into them in one go.
Also, a couple pushups!
Glad to see you play this one Mack! I added it to my steam wishlist a few weeks ago and was curious if the content was there just yet.
It looks like I'll be waiting a bit longer before I possibly pick this one up.
Bullet heaven, Mac.
Bullet heaven
I already 100%-ed Vampire Survivors and Halls of Torment, so I'm looking for more sub-$10 bullet heaven games to spend time with. Thanks to Eugene Jarvis for paving the way for the current apex of this genre.
Fair review. I had a fun time with it. Unlocked everything 100% so far. Got like 20 ish or so hours out of it. Looking forward to when they add more. The dev said something about the higher price was due to developing a 3D game costing more or something (on the steam forums) the aesthetic was a nice change of pace from the usual pixelated ones most of the other games have. Loving the genre overall, and am a fan of most of the games that have dropped, the low prices, replay value, addicting gameplay loop, etc!
Thanks for the great take on this game and I hope you feel better and that your blood tests come back clean. Stay strong, brother!
So far the most fun combo I've found in YAZS has been Medic / Tank / Ghost. Between the Tank's armor, Field Surgery, and Katana Splash, you become an invincible steel tornado. Just run straight at/through the zeds, they can't hurt you.
But yeah, wait for a sale. I certainly did.
Halls of Torment is another good one in this vein.
Currently Bio-Prototype is my go to survivors style game. Multiple difficulty levels, and you get to evolve your character throughout as you evolve after each wave. But the parts you add to your character can only match up with other specific parts, so that's where the strategy comes in as you mix and match parts to be more effective. Of course RNG is a factor in that as the parts you get are randomized, but that's part of the fun as you can't rely on one specific build over and over like you can in Vampire Survivors. Give it a look if it's something you're into. It's cheap as well at only $4.
It's a one-stick shooter
Edit: Goes to show, people appreciate good gameplay, varied options and lots of content over good graphics (this is probably one of the best examples; 2D vs 3D but everything else is in Vampire Survivors' favor).
Thanks for reviewing the game, hopefully they’ll release it on GOG
Thank you , Mak' .
🐺 Loupis Canis .
Would be interested in this if they added manual aim option like Halls Of Torment (a game you should review!)
I had blood test yesterday and they had to resort to the hand. So painful!
Cepheus Protocol, Mack. Massive island map RTS/third person, in the style of JTF, but way better. It is really stinky shit, fun as hell. Evacuate civilians for cash and capture zones for regular income. Purchase base building stuff and vehicles and troops. The base defence element is great fun. The zombies mutate into huge creatures. Call in airstrikes of various kinds. Unlock technology (weapons, vehicles, strikes, base defence components) using the DNA samples that you must get a scientist to physically collect from fallen zeek. Closer to WWZ than anything out there. The attention to detail of the military equipment and environment is incredible. Well worth your time. 7 guys working on it and it is a WIP, but I was instantly addicted and poured in 30 hours in two days. Worth a buy. 👍
Love you, Mack! Keep up the good work.
My favorite game from this genre has been halls of torment. I look forward to when they bring co op to this genre that will be super fun.
Not really my type of game but I like that you try so many different types. There aren't many to choose from right now.
Could call these type of games "Power Walking Sims" 😂
Steam made the label "Bullet Heaven" official for these types of games, even with the upcoming Bullet Heaven Festival in November
The earliest I've ever been to a video! Haven't watched the whole review yet but I absolutely love your honesty and your reviews!
Moving Defending Squad Builder. There a name.
Since "Boomer Shooter" became a genre name, I'm gonna call this one "Zoomer Looter".
Where is the loot part?
@@Hey_Revolver The XP balls and cash - the whole foundation this genre is based on
medic, engineer, pyro is a great elemental tank. Lifesteal with elemental damage is op.
Love it
You didn't even need to come up with a clever name for this video huh?
These game kinda remind of these warcraft 3 mods: battle tanks and battle ships... good times!
Cheeseburger that lasts you about 5 hours :$6-$10
Video game that lasts forever and will constantly get updated: $8
I love it when people complain about video game prices of games that are under $20 lol
Can't eat a video game. Also, let me introduce you to a little something called "value" and its sister term "relative value". If I pay $$ for something that I mildly enjoy for 10 hours, and pay $ for something I massively enjoy for 5 hours, which is more valuable? Here's another example: if I pay $$ for something I love, then someone offers to sell the same thing for $$$, why would I pay more? Value is relative. You can only determine value for yourself, not for anyone else.
🤣 ooh no! it's the price of 2 cups of coffee
Great vid
Endure, Survive.
I think the price is pretty fair for the fun.
On Steam the Games are sometimes called „Danmaku“, don‘t know if that is the official Name.
Played it, had a bit of fun. But yeah, in its current state it costs WAY TO MUCH.
I heard the term Bullet Heaven for that genre.
If u open up the door, we'll all come inside & EAT UR BRAINS!
I nominate "Reverse Bullet Hell" for the genre name.
Was legit halfway through this before I realised the game is literally called Yet Another Zombie Survivors. Looks great so I'm surprised they didn't bother even naming it.
Hey man, just came here to remind you to review Remnant II, which is coming out on July 25. Would be quite interested in hearing your opinion of it.
I think they call this genre bullet heaven. Awesome game and review!
You've already said the genre lol, "Reverse Bullet Hell"
I call them, "Open World Issac-likes", lol.
Some people call it Bullet Heaven, since it's a reverse Bullet Hell.
I enjoyed the game. I'm hoping they add more content like Vampire Survivors.
Thank god for Dr. Smirnoff
Will you be reviewing Baldurs Gate 3?
Hey Mac, give a TRY with "Spirit Hunters Infinite Horde"
Id call them a 'Robotron 2084- like game'.
Vampire survivors is pixel graphics while this is 3D top down so that accounts for the price difference.
Bullet Heaven, Mack.
This whole game style reminds me of Smash Tv from when I was in High School
Yeah, I played that in arcades with my brother. "More money! More prizes!"
@@droe2570 that deserves a remake
Have you played Halls of Torment yet?
Auto Rogue lite?
Also check out Halls of Torment
Do you know.. ive always thought zombie games like.. Dead Island, Dying Light etc.. would be great to play as a Diablo view top down isometric game.. so you could see the battle field and watch them coming
Cepheus Protocol. Awesome zombie RTS.
It's Loaded!!! Super addictive game similar to this on the PSX....just absolute carnage 100% of the time lol.
I believe my real life will be like that in 2024 / latest 2025
5:53 its likely because of the extra obvious effects and art
Mac, please review Dave the Diver :) looking forward to it
He's done it 😮
well, some devs have been playing warframe, that ui must have been a few c rotation grinds.
hall of torment next?
Gurrehhh
it's like Vampire Survivors, and most of these games have Survivors in the title, so "Survivors-Like"
I enjoyed the demo of this game when Steam had it's demofest or whatever, too bad they let it go on sale with still just the one map.
halls of torment!
Yeah Halls is amazing even in early access
It looks Brill
Has Mack played Brotado? Game is complete and absolute crack lol
I hear some people say "auto shooter" for vampire series types of games.
Auto shoot, rogue like, reverse bullet hell, all are correct
autobattlerbullethellwalkaroundcasual!! fuck yes 😆
This looks like what those mobile game ads try to be
Mmmm I don't think this over priced for the quality of the game. I've really enjoyed my time with it so far. But I really do like this genre so perhaps I''m biased.
And VS only had like 1 level when it launched.
I really wish the people who made these clone games actually tried to idk, innovate a little.
Can't see myself buying any more of em if they are just going to be reskins
An annoying mobile game fake ad was showing gameplay images of this game. I now have found the name of the actual game that the fake ads were ripping of from.
7-8$ for a game and you're having a ton of fun but it's not worth it? Sounds a bit strange to me but I do agree that more content is needed
Yeah I remember everyone jumping on the "We're stealing the devs for this pricing point" opinion on Vampire Survivors even after the 1.0 release. Now it's too pricey? People need to decide.
Eh, I think $5 is a fair price for these games if they are well done. They are simple, and they all just copycat VS, so mechanics and design is a no-brainer.
The GMG link does not work, the game is not on their store
Bullet heaven iirc?
Bullet Heaven is the correct term since it’s the opposite of Bullet Hell
this genre has been milked so much, the cow has actually f'in died 👍🏻
Not really. Halls of Torment is the best one yet imo.
@@jonpro9637 please name a few in this genre that are actuality good
it's a one-finger-slot-machine-roguelike-bullethell-auto-horde-shooter.
(i guess they just go with auto-shooter)
i thought he meant he's reviewing "REMEDIUM: Sentinels" that just came out yesterday.
they are getting all over the place it seems
How come there are these Vampire Survivors clones all release at the same time? Halls of torment. Zombie survivors and there was another one with like animal girls or something? all in the same month?..
Well, that's what happens when some genre becomes a trend. Remember the hundreds of battle royale games launched right after PUBG and Fortnite successes?
Does anyone know the reason why Mack hasn't done a review of Diablo 4? I'm surprised that he skipped it since it's a pretty popular game. I'm just asking because maybe I missed something.
Man its like over 50% of games these days are Early Access. And many stay in EA for years and years. So every time its a gamble to buy a game that is in EA.
Yea, just avoid EA unless it's either stupid cheap (VS was $2), or you completely trust the dev (like Larian).
Give Brotato a try
A 3d vampire survivors game 😂
I think this game. Needs more content though
Garlic God
What was the name of the game?
We are gziliion!! part 5 ..when new original games? ...
It might cost more because the graphics are much better.
only because one game undersells their product, doesn't mean, they all have to do. I think the price is fine for a game, you can have at least a couple of hours fun with. Just think about what you are saying... People need to eat, you know? Maybe one developer lives in China and the other lives in idk Europe? They can't both ask the same for the same game...
Is it even possible to make a bad vamp survivors clone? This looks good, project lazarus is good, pretty sure I saw Mack play some early access cartoon orc lookng thing that looked good...
Halls of Torment is the best Vampire Survivor type game and probably even better, half the price of this one as well.
True.
Xenonauts 2 Mack
Kind of weird it's taking so long for the genre name to stick.
Is that the actual name of the game?
Try Nova Drift. It is the best game in this genre at the moment
I would not call these types of games casual lol. They can actually be quite stressful
Where’s the battlebit review Mack
I think its a bit unfair compairing the price point so aggressively to VPS. This games graphics is much better which take longer to develop.
Also this may have had a bigger team involved and they all need to get paid.
I agree that VPS is better with more content. But i just think its a bit harsh to bang on about the price point.
Love your content Mac!
They are all just assets, it's not like those are all original. At any rate, pricing is not just about what you have to pay your employees and such, it's ultimately about what people are willing to pay. We'll see how high in price these games get before they stop selling.
Twin stick auto shooter?
twin stick with one fingerhow does that work?
It is expensive for a mobile game
