I haven't beaten it yet, but from what I see so far, I like how being in the bunker itself is so horrifying that it makes going back up into the battlefield seem like a place to escape to, than the other way round it usually would be

Soma's storytelling is 10/10 for me. Soma is one of the only games to ever have an emotional impact on me.

I'm glad to hear they are finally getting this series back in the right direction.
I think the best Frictional game I've played so far has been SOMA. It was basically a walking/sneaking sim, but with a really cool sci-fi story. I never played Amnesia: Rebirth. This looks interesting with some good mechanics. Hopefully, it has some of those lovecraftian elements that where in the first game.
Rebirth actually had some great moments.
if u want Lovecraftian elements go play rebirth it expands the story from the first game and flashes out everything. if u get into the story u will enjoy it its much like soma in that there is not much gameplay so the story carries the game but that depends on your taste i enjoyed it quite a lot

@@brandonatchison4769 Yeah Rebirth reviews are very mixed. About 60% of people like it, the other 40% absolutely shit on it. So yeah, when almost half of the people who played it hate it clearly doesn't look good for Rebirth. It does, however, have a very good story and very good voice acting, as all Amnesia games do. The main character talks too much which is something most people complain about but I don't mind it. I personally really really liked Rebirth and I think it's overhated for no reason. People were maybe expecting too much from it because of how good the first Amnesia game was. Rebirth has some really good and interesting connections to The Dark Descent and it really expand upon the world and story, showing lots of things that were mentioned in the first game (like the traveler's amulet that lets you walk between worlds, the queen of Alexander's world, and lots of other things). If you're a fan of the world of Amnesia or just a fan of Frictional Games in general I'd say Rebirth is very much worth playing, especially if it's at a discount as you said.
SOMA is a game I still think about years later. It wasn't really the fear, it was the terrible, almost mundane situation they were in. It wasn't the monsters that were actually the problem and I thought that was very unique. The theoretical concepts discussed in the game were also really interesting to me.

I like how the sound of firing the revolver is muffled and muted because firing a gun in a tight space with no ear protection will cause ear damage
This looks like a worthy game to watch someone else play to avoid the stress.

Penumbra series, Amnesia (all of them) and Soma are brilliant. Dark Descent and Soma are masterpieces and I loved Rebirth, especially exploring the alien world.
Nah I agree with Mack, rebirth and a machine for pigs were meh, especially rebirth. Barely had the energy to finish that. The dark descent, soma and the bunker are their masterpieces. F-ing love this game so far.

Machine for pigs is the only real bad one, the rest are good, even rebirth, theres some love in there, its the total opposite to this, only issue with rebirth is the level of voice narration.. she doesnt shutup hahaha

Im a high blood pressure sufferer too, but scary games dont affect me. Its all about your state of mind. If you can keep calm, remember "Its just a game" and remember to breath, you should be fine. Just try not to scare easily. Its psychological.
High Blood pressure is caused by trauma, be it physical or mental.

I have never played any of the amnesia games b4 cuz I’m too much of a puss puss, only watching rebirth on UA-cam and I actually kinda liked it, it has pretty interesting locations like underground ruins and barracks as well as the alien world, which added so much lore to the world of amnesia tbh

By the way Frictional Games are also the guys behind SOMA which is a freaking amazing game. They made that after Machine for Pigs. So they have not only made bad games since the release of the original Amnesia.

Something else that I hope holds true is that the monster is supposed to act autonomously. It's not supposed to have any scripted move patterns so it patrols on its own volition with no predictable path it follows which raises the terror level quite a bit as you have no conceivable way of guessing where it might or might not be.

I used to get jumpy from horror movies, but that went away with time. But games is very hard to get rid of that feeling from :P I think it's because "you're in control" and that's the scary part.

Concept reminds me of Alien Isolation, which is a good thing. That was one of my all time fav games. Played it with a 9.1ch sony headset that was tracking and mimicking vertical sound movement, so when the xeno was in the vents, the sounds came above me, I was shittin bricks. 😀

I am just listening. The Dark Descent and S.O.M.A. are terrific. I hope The Bunker does not disappoint. Alien: Isolation also does a great job at terrifying.
If you like all those……..can’t see why you wouldn’t love the Bunker. Loved all those too and this is probably right in line with them, if not a little above to me personally.

I was stressing when I was playing The Forest. Dim lit room and headphones for the experience. To this day, I haven't finished it. That was 2 years ago...
i would recommend you try subnautica if you havent played it yet. subnautica 1 is my all time favorite.
its so good. it does not hold your hand, you have to learn everything on your own and the deep water creatures are really scary lol. to this day subnautica is one of my most favorite "horrorgames" and its not even horror. its just that the fear of deep sea is so brutal in that game.
It's on Game Pass as well.

I hated the last game in this series but Bunker looks like a phenomenal experience, much closer to what made Dark Descent so good. This is so refreshing to see and I can't wait to play this one myself!

It's worth it. Might be a lil short for most people's tastes, but I found it to be the perfect length. Specially since it has replayability, so I'll do another run some day
How long is this game?
Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs was made by Chinese Room, not Frictional Games - Frictional were only the publishers of that one. The Chinese Room makes walking sims mostly and are best known for Dear Esther, which is why A Machine for Pigs was more of an interactive narrative than a horror game; it takes place in the same universe and borrows some mechanics from Amnesia, which is why it's still a game in the series. Personally, I loved AMfP because of the story, worldbuilding, atmosphere, and sound design all being top-tier.
After Amnesia, Frictional made SOMA, which is another less game-heavy horror game, but also a banger. Before Amnesia was the Penumbra Trilogy, and those are *okay* for the most part. Their only real flop was Amnesia: Rebirth. Rebirth was stinky due to really bad level design, hardly any puzzles, a story that was hard to take seriously, and lack of actual horror - I remember most of the game was wandering around pitch-black tunnels with no gameplay elements or story unfolding. Playing as a pregnant woman was really interesting, though, just because I've never seen that in a game before.

Probably give this a miss, I have enough bad dreams where I have something coming after me, or where I'm having to fight things off 😫

honestly my only real complain with this game is that its so short. i know horror benefits from a more streamlined and compact experience but this still could've been a bit longer. or they could've added more to the replay value (stuff is randomized to a degree but it honestly does not change much)
I liked this too however the ending, there basically isnt one, the cutscene is so short I just wish they had given it a bit more time and fleshed i out at the end.

Rebirth was not great but to be fair A Machine for Pigs wasn't made by Frictional and there is also SOMA which I thought was brilliant. Played the demo of Bunker and to be honest wasn't keen, seems like Frictional have taken a step back, it just felt (and looked) like a game from their Penumbra days 15 years ago.
So what's the penalty for being caught and killed? Respawn or complete do over?

I still see a problem of your vision is going all blurry on top of pitch black darkness and monster is grabbing and instant killing you around the corner.
Leave it to Frictional to scare the ever living crap out of you. They truly are masters of horror.
Good review but needs some corrections. The gameplay is nothing like TDD - the UX is similar but there are immersive sim elements to the gameplay mechanics that is not in TDD or any previous Amnesia game. It's petrol not oil for the genny., and the 'safe' room isn't always safe......wait a while.

Frictional didn’t do A Machine For Pigs. It was made by The Chinese Room, the Dear Esther and Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture devs. FWIW I liked it as a piece of interactive storytelling but it wasn’t much of a game.
