It could have lasted so much longer too but I guess they don't want to split development costs. I mean they could reprint so many titles, especially rare ones and make bank. Things are advancing too fast, especially technology and that means future generations miss out.
I have some information about the image included in Puzzles and Dragons Z. The character is named ムラ神さま (murakamisama), and is a character of Corocoro Comics in Japan. The character is meant to be the chief editor of the comics. The happy dragon is a mascot of Corocoro. Puzzles and Dragons comic was published by Corocoro. They even had collaboration dungeons in Puzzles and Dragons Z where you fought Corocoro mascots that you could get by typing in a code included in their monthly magazine. It may have originally been planned to be included in those dungeons.

I love how we go right from talking about unhealthy obsession over body image to an ad for a product that stresses meticulous micromanaging of one's own body image.

While I agree that people shouldn't feel like they have to shave, should shaving products be barred from advertising because of that? It's a fine line to balance for sure.
Research has shown that fat shaming does not work and even produces the opposite result. And I think that being overweight is a much more significant problem than hairyness is in terms of health and body image. And therefore the reaction to it should be proportional. That's why viewing shaving products as a negligible problem for now is acceptable in my opinion.
But I wouldn't mind shaving products being barred from advertising their products similar to cigarettes here in Germany.

@@TwilightBinder Shaming isn't the right word. I wish it was that easy, but shaming people for being fat doesn't encourage them to lose weight. Shaming someone for anything doesn't help with it really. Directly confronting people in a personal, accusational manner automatically puts them on the defensive and their brain will come up with anything to refute what you say. They will instinctually go in the opposite direction of what you're saying, it's just human. Fat shaming specifically puts them in a mindset that strengthens their already existing issues getting in the way of starting their weight loss.
Now of course, supporting the idea that there's nothing wrong with being fat is bad too. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and being obese isn't bad because of your appearance, but your heart's opinion doesn't make it pump blood any easier.
This video explains what I'm trying to say much better and with visual aids. Take what Dr. K says here and apply it to a conversation about someone's weight and you'll see much better results than with shaming them.

It's a trimmer, not like a "health supplement" which lies and says it will make you superbuff. I don't really feel manscaping products are quite the same as what they lambast in the Queen Oren-segment.
I'm pretty sure that the Mask Salesman face is used because... even in the original, the children seem to be based on the Mask Salesman's head put on a child's body.
Yeah it seems like the N64 children's head is just the happy mask salesmen without the face texture.

I don’t know if this is true but after AlphaDream closed Nintendo hired most of there team into Nintendo’s first party development so I don’t know what they been doing so who knows

It is known that AlphaDream went of business due to debt, but they had had multiple successful releases not that long ago. I find it hard to believe Nintendo wasn't in talks with them at the time, I would assume they didn't "leave them out to dry" as much as have concerns with investing in them. At that point then its only speculation what led them to not go for it.

I didn't buy the remake since I already owned the original.
I feel like the fact that you could still play the original on a 3DS just fine kinda meant a lot of people didn't see the point in it. Especially since a lot of people prefer the pre-dream team artstyle too.
The “ decapitated” dragon on the staff in the puzzle and dragon game is actually the mascot for corocoro magazine in Japan. So I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if the man in the photo actually works for corocoro magazine since Nintendo and corocoro magazine have a history of having Tie ins and cameos

Let's be honest, the 3DS is the ultimate DS. It has access to the entire DS and 3DS library and sans a few specific titles like the Guitar Hero DS games and accessories that need the GBA port on the original DS, can play pretty much every game and use every feature the DS brought along.
Except that the 3DS does not display DS games correctly, making is suboptimal and thus not the preferred way of playing.
You can change it with a button input when you load up a game. Same as with the GB games on the virtual console.

@@bluestreaker9242 the 3DS screens have a different resolution than the DS screens. And if you boot DS games with the button combination to use the proper resolution it looks like crap with gigantic bars around the screens.
I personally don’t care and just play DS games on my 3DS (without the borders, though), I just wanted to clarify that the 3DS is by no means the ultimate systems that plays both libraries perfectly

The M&L series being one of my favourite franchises and seeing Alpha dream go out really hit me hard in the feelings. I own the originals and the remakes and fun fact: Bowser Inside story was actually my first game that I owned (for me alone) and I actually got it by finding a lost DS in a shopping cart at K-mart, a couple of years later I find the person that lost it at middle school.

Alpha Dream didn’t deserve to close down. Bowser’s Inside Story was just a TERRIBLE game to remaster. The artwork was already beautiful and some of the best on the DS. The 3DS was backwards compatible with the original. There was no reason to choose THAT game out of every game in the franchise. I’m sad Alpha Dream closed but that just seemed like a really stupid decision.
pit was the best game to remake it has a concept much more ambitious than bis and it has a lot of potentials that were not realized in the final game

The remake being Bowser's Inside story had nothing to do with it, overall the reception was still good from those who played it.
The problem was the 3DS.
When Superstar Saga's remake was announced, people already questioned why it wasn't on the Switch (which had just come out that year.)
The Bowser's Inside Story remake came out when the Switch was approaching two years old and the 3DS was pretty much on life support (despite Nintendo still trying to claim the Switch hasn't replaced it.)
I feel like it still played a factor in its poor sales. Look at the art from the DS original and the 3DS remaster. I personally think the 3DS remaster looks bad in comparison to the original. There’s also the fact that The original was backwards compatible with the 3DS. That wasn’t the case with Superstar Saga. You could argue not porting it to the switch hurt it more but I don’t think that’s the case.
@@djhero0071 it really didn't in any substantial capacity. It's just like how when Superstar Saga remake was announced and people cried and moaned about how it looks "generic" had no "charm" and was "inexpressive," even though that's nothing but utter bullshit and the remake still did fairly well even though most people had moved onto the Switch.
The backwards compatibility made owning the remake of BiS feel redundant if you already had the original, especially considering the gameplay wasn't changed nearly as substantially as in Superstar Saga's.
At the end of the day, it was releasing on the Switch in 2019 that killed it, 3DS games released around this time generally did very poorly and it didn't help that you could play the original on 3DS, meaning a lot of people didn't see the point in upgrading if they already had it. Its failure had pretty much nothing to do with "muh artstyle" and any sales lost because of it were negligible at worst.
Bowser’s Inside Story seemed so redundant for 3DS since the 3DS was backwards compatible with the DS. Like, why spend $40 on something that I can already play on the console? Heck, it’s not even in 3D! With Switch ports at least I was able to take it on the go... But now that I know that Alpha Dream went bankrupt... I kinda wanna buy it digitally now...

The fact that they remade the 1st and 3rd M&L games but skipped the 2nd, makes me wonder if Nintendo deliberately set them up to fail...

I really wished that DYKG was more clear about the Wii Fit controversy in the video. So many people keep making jokes about how the 10 year old kid must have been fat and the parents are ignoring her weight problem without realizing that the game called a kid who was not obese obese, killing her self-esteem. The BMI measurement used in the game is not perfect, especially when determining if kids are obese or not. The parents were concerned that other kids could be told they were obese when they really weren’t, making kids feel ugly.
For real. The Wii Fit board was just the most passive-aggressive jerk and that's fine if you're an adult, but a kid is not going to take it well. Even if the kid was fat, this thing wasn't going to help. But then, of course, the Wii Fit uses BMI to measure even though muscle weighs more than fat, so it can't possibly accurately gauge body shape, so if the kid isn't even actually obese but keeps being told that she is, well, that's a certain mood killer to say the least.
Even if the BMI measurements were perfect, it's generally agreed that BMI is meaningless for children, anyway. It already has significant issues when used for adults, but at least it will still give you results in the right ballpark. However, it means diddly squat when attempting to use the measurements on someone who isn't fully grown.
I didn't realize the remake of Bowser's Inside Story did that badly.
A store near where I live received just 3 copies of the BiS remake, so it might as well be the rarest 3DS game ever released.

While I know that the 3DS version of Bowser's Inside Story sold amazingly poorly, it was how I experienced that game, so I honestly don't regret buying it at all
as a game artist, i always find it funny when you guys are like "we don't know why the developers did [some art-related cut corner]," like the mm moon kids' faces. it's because doing something else would've been more work lmao. for the 64 version, why spend the time drawing a nice-looking face if no one will see it? for the 3ds version, if you already have a perfectly good head model with exactly the hair, skin tone, ears, etc that you need for a separate character who will never show their face, just use that! i myself have used the same pair of boots from four years ago on three separate character models now and i'm certainly not stopping any time soon. it's not an easter egg, it's just the path of least resistance ^^;;
Like why would a team spend extra time on faces when MM had a REALLY short development cycle. Much rather them working on the cool stuff like the UFOs plot or Anju and Kafei storyline

I don't think they meant for them to have the same face but certainly the same body to look identical. It's weird to have a grown up's face on a child's body.

@@lol-ih1tl Probably because that game was originally made for the GameCube then was ported to the Wii. Even then, the Wii U port didn't sell well compared to the original despite having a small new detail that goes with the Wii U version of Breath of the Wild that wasn't on the Switch version for some reason..
Paris was Ike’s original name during the development of Path of Radiance. You can find prerelease screenshots with that name on The Cutting Room Floor page for the game.

6:20 They still could've kept the "dual screen" on the Switch by having a picture-in-picture feature or do what the Switch hackers did when modding the DS games onto the Switch. Similar to what people do on their smartphones. Anybody that used Drastic and other DS emulators on their phones should know what I mean.
The remaster of The Wonderful 101, originally a Wii U game that used the gamepad, did the same thing, so it’s definitely possible
their main drawback to the bowser's inside story remake is the fact you could play the original on that hardware and just how well the original sold

For a system with “3D” in the name, there were way more 2D platformers than 3D ones... It’s just a missed opportunity in my opinion.
3D platformers in general were in short supply during most of the 3DS's lifespan.
When the genre began to be revitalized with indie titles like A Hat in Time, Yooka-Laylee, and various others... The 3DS was almost gone and pretty weak for those modern titles. Heck, by the time they released the Switch had already been announced and released.
3d Land was such a great introduction in my opinion, too bad third parties hardly tried their hand in the genre asfter seeing some of what you could do.
It because the 3DS had one circle pad. If it had two, we could have gotten more 3D games. There is an add on that gives us this, but no one bought it
It didn't help that 3D mode tends to hurt people's eyes after a while. That's why they made versions of the console without it.

It really shows how annoying these sponsored ads really are and how much they’ve been becoming more and more these days. It also shows how much people like Greg have been becoming more blind with greed when it comes to this placement of this ad.

Alphadream were suc great developers... but once you get down to it, man, they sure sucked at administrating money. Anyways, as much as I love Dream Team, the SS remake and surprisingly Paper Jam, making Mario & Luigi games during this era was a mistake. It worked in the DS era because Nintendo's focus was in the Wii with third parties and second parties carrying the DS, but the 3DS had HEAVY first party support, specially in the Mario aspect, so, it's a shame but they had it coming, still one of the most charming games I've played in handhelds :/
I really wish that Nintendo bought them or something so at the very least the devs could continue to have jobs. They were such a talented team.

Another way you can see it like this: BiS was the best-selling Mario & Luigi game of all time. More people at the time owned a 3DS than a Switch, as the latter was still fairly recent. On paper, remaking BiS seemed like the obvious choice. However, the people who would have been most likely to buy the remake already owned the original, so there was no reason for them to buy it, and most 3DS owners at that time had moved on to the Switch.
Had Alpha Dream gambled everything on a brand new Mario & Luigi title on the Switch like Fire Emblem Awakening did when the 3DS was young, they might've still been around.
On a side-note, I actually bought the remake since I own a 3DS and no DS, so it was the most convenient way for me to finally own the thing.

The dragon at 3:35 is the mascot of CoroCoro (コロコロ) magazine which is the magazine that publishes the manga for series like Pokemon, Mario, Kirby and Zelda among others.
The reason the Smooth Stone slims down the Zora Queen is most likely the same reason Smooth-Smooth fruit did the same for Alvida in One Piece. It's a pun on the excess weight slipping off. Both items even use the phrase "sube sube" in the JP names.

it's insane. i was looking to upgrade my regular og 3ds for future use but every system is ridiculously priced now. why is this? sure, it's an older system but still.
Nintendo stopped producing them, most people moved onto the switch, and no one sells them anymore. The pandemic might also have accelerated the scarcity of the console and its games with how many people all over were stuck at home dealing with stay-in-place orders and lockdowns.
Bowser's inside story would have sold gangbusters on the Switch, Dual Screen gimmicks be damned.
True, the developers could've at least added picture-in-picture or do what everyone does when using DS emulators on their phones.

Yeah, it's less that their videos aren't being shown and more that they experimented a bunch with extra channels and different videos to where the most dedicated fans got burn out trying to keep up. extra trivia on Priam: his Japanese name, Paris, was the original / beta name for who would later go on to become Ike. It's likely this is the main reason why Awakening's paralogue character was named Paris in the original version, rather than the mythological reference, but of course it then loops around due to the fact that you could try to put said reference onto Ike. And of course the localization team was aware of the mythological aspect when they renamed him.

I hate when people think in extremes like that. Like, of course looks aren't everything. But if it makes you feel better to take care of yourself, that's fine.
Same with the whole body image thing. Just because you're overweight, doesn't mean your worth as a person is diminished, or that you don't deserve love and happiness or anything like that. I loved the remake and I had high hopes for the series going forward. Even though the 3DS was dead, I think it could have sold more if Nintendo gave it more serious marketing and released it on a date where it wasn't in direct competition with NSMBUDX. By the way that game is a prime example of popularity not necessarily equaling quality. In my opinion BIS DX deserved success a lot more than NSMBU DX. It had real effort put into remastering all the graphics and adding an entire new story. NSMBU just added a Toadette model and called it a day. And then it absolutely trampled BIS DX on release day. I'll just say that everyone who slept on BIS DX did a good job of sealing AlphaDream's fate. We may never see another M&L game now, and all the fun memorable characters unique to the series will be forever in limbo considering Nintendo's hate boner for using RPG characters outside RPG games. :'(
In a way I kinda miss the 3D Technology fad we had in the early 2010's with 3D Cinema and the 3DS.
Started around the 80s with the Red/Cyan and kind of fizzled out after the 90s, then came back again in the early 10s and fizzled out again. Though I guess the current VR craze could maybe be seen as an evolution of it.

I love my 3DS. I owned it for the past 6 years and enjoyed many games like Smash 4 and Shovel Knight. However, I feel AlphaDream brought their demise to themselves by remaking a game that didn't need a remake. They should've focused on developing a new Mario & Luigi game for the Nintendo Switch after remaking Superstar Saga.
It's possible that they couldn't make a Switch game due to rising development costs (which they cited as a reason for going bankrupt).

The irony of remaking Bowser’s Inside Story over Partners in Time because of sales numbers only to have that remake be the worst selling Mario game in history is so delicious to me, Partners in Time is so good and deserves so much more love than it gets

I agree that PiT needed it more. Barely anyone played it because of various things, like people complaining about the special attacks being consumable items (though that really wasn’t an issue...). They missed out on a great game with it. A remake could have brought more attention to it. PiT being a DS game also wouldn’t have gotten in the way as much as BiS.
