Very well done Brett! Sincere thanks for all ur hard & thorough work. Ive watched all ur Brushy vids and u've def restored my belief that Brushy was indeed the Kid. Brett, I am thoroughly enjoying your series on Billy and Brushy. Do you have more info on the falsehood that Pat Garret killed the kid? I’ve never believed Garret’s telling of the story. I actually have a copy of Sophie Poe’s “Buckboard Days” which intrigued me as soon as I could start reading as a small child. As an older man now, I find it interesting that even the door they have in the museum that supposedly was hit by a stray bullet looks more like a shotgun blast than a Colt revolver. I’m an old west gun collector and have both a Wells Fargo style side by side and several Colt .45’’s which at that time the Colt .44 was more popular because the ammo would interchange with the Winchester 1873 lever action rifle. Never the less, the Colt blows a considerably smaller hole than a shotgun loaded with buckshot or a slug.
My next video will cover the shooting at Ft. Sumner, and I'm going to discuss the shotgun theory, which was mentioned by members of the Maxwell family as well as Thomas McKinney. Thanks for watching.

Brushy Bill AKA Billy the kid trying to get a pardon when the governor stabbed him in the back and he all the sudden and had no choice. Look at it this way when they were shooting at sheriff Brady and his deputies there was six other men with him also shooting. He would have shot at Billy Matthews whom he hated. Billy Matthews survived. Because he ran and hid behind some barrels and shot Billy in the thigh when he came to get the rifle that sheriff Brady had unfairly confiscated. Confiscating a man's rifle in those days was akin to disrespecting him and was considered degrading. I mean he tried to do things the legal way at first he was even on a posse at one time and was deputized. I mean when you see men being shot down and murdered and no one's paying for it. What would you do if they were your friends and compadres. I'm not making a saint out of him as Pat Garrett did but he was no better and no worse than many other people at the time including lawmen. He was a fighting man though that is why Pat Garrett ran away screaming like a woman. That is also why they had to send a woman in there as neither deputy or Pat Garrett himself would go in the doorway they thought the man was simply wounded. Delvina cussed them for being cowards. She saw a Mexican that was shot and killed and she said at the time that it was Billy the kid. Later her story drastically changed and said I is along with the coroner's jury identified the man as Billy the kid because we wanted him to escape and get far away. Also Billy's fun horse that was a gift from tunstall which he prized was missing that day. The horse that Barlow road in on was still there and was never claimed.
All of Jameson's books are nonfiction. In the later edition of the book, the lost interviews he presented Roberts statements in a questions and answers type format, and added questions by Morrison before Roberts' answers, which resulted in part of that book being technically fiction. However, he was using the same transcripts that I used, as well as the other books cited in my video...all of which are 100% non-fiction! As far as the tapes go: 2 copies of the interviews were known to exist. The first set of copies were in the possession of Roberts' step-grandson, Bill Allison. These tapes were loaned to researcher Frederic Bean sometime in the late 80s. W.C. Jameson wrote a book about this set of tapes in the book, Billy the Kid: The Lost Interviews. When Bean had the tapes, he noted the poor condition they were in, primarily due to the manner in which they were stored. Nonetheless, he transcribed them and these transcripts served as the premise for the book that he and Jameson collaborated on, The Return of the Outlaw Billy the Kid. Following Allison's death, the tapes along with Roberts' trunk were taken by a family member. And from there no one knows what became of either the tapes or Roberts' trunk. As far as the 2nd set of tapes goes: I found a letter Morrison wrote just a few months before his death revealing the location of the tapes. Right before the pandemic hit in early 2020 I contacted the institution and was told they had several items donated by Morrison, and they believed they might have them and just had to figure out exactly where they were being stored. The pandemic forced us to temporarily pause in our search efforts, but I'm optimistic that sometime in the near future I'll be able to locate them...if they still exist. If I do locate them, I will put them up here on UA-cam. The audio tapes were available for public viewing in the 1950s - the 1970s. The Westerners Club had them for a while, as did the El Paso Rotary Club, and the Missouri Historical Society. When Morrison died in 1977 is when they went out of circulation. I talked to Leon Metz back in 2005 as he and Morrison were friends and lived only a couple of blocks from one another, and he confirmed that he listened to them while they were on loan to the El Paso Rotary Club. I have letters from Phil Rasch thanking Morrison for allowing the Westerners to host them. In part 4 of this series I'm going to show correspondence between Robert Mullin and Morrison where they discuss Mullin listening to the tapes and him being impressed by Roberts' statements. Thanks for watching.

@@brushybret I appreciate your response to me! I look forward of looking into all of this over the coming days and hopefully I can shoot h a few more questions if that’s ok
Are you referring to the hair that was being displayed at the museum in Ft. Sumner? If so, I'm not very optimistic about it, as even if they're able to extract any DNA from those strands, who are they going to compare it to since they've already stated they would fight any attempt to exhume the body at Ft. Sumner or Catherine Antrim. Furthermore, the provenance of the hair is highly questionable to say the least. Back in the early 2000s was our best chance to do DNA testing when two Lincoln County Deputy Sheriffs attempted to exhume the body at Ft. Sumner, Catherine Antrim, Brushy Bill Roberts and John Miller but were fought every step of the way by the powers that be who filed a series of frivolous lawsuits and attacked the men personally, which resulted in them both resigning their positions. I truly think that was our best chance. Thanks for watching.
@@brushybret thanks. I am new to your channel but it seems the other side of this conversation is extremely hostile and arrogant. Anyway, I am thoroughly enjoying your presentations.
By the way, the book about Billy the kid came out in 1915 and again in 1935. In that book, it did not mention anything about Brushy Billy. They have never heard of him. But yes William Bonney is the one they heard about as Billy the Kid.
Any fan of Billy should look up "Billy the Kid the Silvercity photo", it's a newly found photo and you can tell its him. It looks exactly like the man in the tintype, only not warped and you can see why they said he had a handsome boyish face AND why people said the tintype didn't do him justice!
I do believe it's most likely Billy. I remember first seeing it when I was the archivist at the Billy the Kid museum in Canton, Texas, in the early 2000s, where Dr. Jannay Valdez was the curator. Jannay showed me the photo, and he even did a write-up about it in the museum's newsletter. He was a big believer in its authenticity and its likeness to Roberts. Thanks for watching.
There were originally two sets of the recordings. One set was left with Roberts and was last in the possession of his step-grandson, Bill Allison, who loaned the recording to Frederic Bean who transcribed them and were the basis for the book he and W.C. Jameson collaborated on, The Return of the Outlaw Billy the Kid. Jameson later wrote a follow-up to this book, years later titled, Billy the Kid: The Lost Interviews, where he went further in to detail about the recordings. Bean returned the recordings to Allison, who kept them until he passed away. What became of them after Allison's death remains a mystery. According to Jameson, the tapes weren't in the best condition when Bean transcribed them. As for the second set, that Morrison possessed, Morrison loaned the tapes out to various historical groups and societies. He loaned them to Phil Rasch and the Westerners Club for an event, as well as the El Paso Rotary Club. Leon Metz told me back in the early 2000s that he was at the Rotary Club event. Robert Mullin also listened to the recordings. I cited he and Morrison's correspondence in part 4 of the outlaw years, noting Mullin being impressed with Roberts' knowledge of the layout of the Lincoln County Jail and how he kept rewinding the tape to playback Roberts'description of the courthouse. After Morrison passed away, there was no further mention of the recordings. That is until I found a letter Morrison wrote just a few months before he passed away stating where he sent them. I have been in contact with the institution where Morrison said he sent them, and they have a record of them, but aren't quite sure where they are being stored. I've been working with someone from the facility, and we're trying to find them and if and when we do, I will post them here on UA-cam.
@@brushybret that’s awesome. I’d love to hear them (as obviously you would) because irrespective of wether he was Billy the Kid he certainly lived in a similar time and it would be wonderful to hear him speak. I’m subscribing to your channel as I’m sure you will post them if you find ‘em.

The governor of New Mexico never met Brushy Billy, he wasn't born yet and was from Texas, but he did meet William Bonney as Billy the Kid. When Billy the Kid wrote a letter to the governor twice, this meant the governor already knew William Bonney as Billy the Kid.
@@brushybret I kinda believe brushy was and then I don’t. Have you seen the interview Francisco Garza interview in 1930. He states Billy was at the McSweens for 8 months before the war started

I find your work as excellent, I have been looking for the birthdate of Roberts, I come up with 1879, are you saying he is Billy The Kid through what can be understood as metempsycosis, Quantum TimeSpace, In lucid dreams,

This was actually tried back in the early 2000s by two Lincoln County Deputy Sheriffs. The plan was to exhume the body in Ft. Sumner, Catherine Antrim, William Henry Roberts, and John Miller and settle the debate once and for all through DNA testing. However, the powers that be in New Mexico fought this every step of the way by filing a series of lawsuits and legal filings that eventually put a stop to it. This is detailed in the books, The Dirty on Billy the Kid by Steven Sederwall, and Billy the Kid Cold Case: Investigating History's Mysteries by W.C. Jameson. Thanks for watching.

I understand that Morrison’s family has never released the tapes of Brushy Bill’s recordings. So would it be more accurate to say you are getting the information from someone who has heard the tapes? With all due respect I think the statement that you got the information directly from the tapes is not quite accurate.
As far as the ear lobes go, the ears in the original, photograph were almost completely gone. The ears were "retouched" by a man by the name of Noah Rose. Only the very top part of one of the ears was still visible in the tintype. This was mentioned by John Meigs in his report to The Lincoln County heritage Trust in the 1980s and has been discussed by acclaimed western photograph historian Robert McCubbin.

@Brett Hall Yes, the Hines topic needs to be discussed and exposed! I believe Hines was actually William Campbell which was an alias and Morrison was protecting his identity. Jesse Evans disappeared and is rumored to be Jesse Davis.
@@TheReapersFear4 Yes, Hines was Campbell I discuss this in my book and cite the sources that support it, and in my video on Hines I will show the documents that I cite in my book. Thanks for watching.
@Brett Hall Hey Brett! Which book of yours is that? I'd love to read it. And I wanted to get your take on something. Jesse Evans did in fact use the alias Joe Hines back in the 1880s... that seems to confuse matters or Campbell just knew that and assumed the same alias?! This stuff is wild lol
This has already been debunked in the University of Texas - Austin Facial Recognition Study. As well as the Study in Ears, which determined the ears were the same. Remember, the original ears in the tintype were almost completely gone and were "retouched", by Noah H. Rose. Only by using special facial recognition equipment and software can the test / read underneath Rose's work and measure the shadow or impression of the tintype. This is all detailed in John Meigs report on the condition of the Dedrick-Upham Tintype in the 1980s to the Lincoln County Heritage Trust. All of these online comparisons are done by amateurs using simple programs like photoshop or gimp and are not a reliable tool for making facial recognition comparisons, particularly on grainy, heavily damaged, and distorted, 140-year-old tintypes that have been "retouched". Acclaimed western photo historian, Robert G. McCubbin, has made statements on Noah Rose's "retouching" of the tintype and how it made it completely unrecognizable from its original condition. Thank you for watching.
He was not Billy the Kid. His real name was Oliver ? Roberts and he change his name to Brushy Billy and he did not change to Billy the kid. He had lived in Texas instead of New Mexico. He was only 2 years old when Wiiliam Bonney (Billy the kid) was killed. He did not killed the sheriff and dupty in Linclon county in 1881, he was only 2 years old when this was happened, he was not there, but William Bonney was. William was 21 years old at that time. You folks needed to focus what is really true. Most of you read is fault. Brushy Billy lied, he stole William Bonney story, so he can claimed that he was Billy the Kid. This is very wrong.
Ear lobes don't change. If one picture shows hanging ear lobes and one photo shows attached ear lobes we know these are two different people. One style doesn't change into the other...Ever. This is all we need to discern Brushy Bill could not have been the Kid. Why he claimed to be is anyone's guess.
The photograph that the gentleman who promotes this theory regarding the ears used a manipulated image of the Kid. The image was "retouched" by Noah Rose, as the original was so damaged that large portions of it were no longer visible. I did a video on this, which includes source citations by two of the leading authorities on western photographs, as well as statements by John Meigs of the Lincoln County Heritage Trust. The video also includes a facial recognition study conducted by the University of Texas - Austin, which concluded Roberts and the Kid were a statistical match. The study was conducted by 2 PhD scientist who used an internationally recognized facial recognition program, whose methods were peer-reviewed in two scientific journals and were further confirmed by two independent arbiters, who were completely impartial. Very well done Brett! Sincere thanks for all ur hard & thorough work. Ive watched all ur Brushy vids and u've def restored my belief that Brushy was indeed the Kid. (Which is great cause Young Guns 2 is a fave movie of mine).
I must admit I bought into the Oliver connection. So the age gap thing was a big prob for me as well as the James Gang & other supposed claims. It all seemed too fantastical. They turned poor Brushy into the Forrest Gump of the old west.
Man it's amazing how one writer's falsehood can quickly become the perceived historical record. Anyway, keep up the great detective work. Im looking forward to u telling us where Jimmy Hoffa and El Dorado are really burried. God Bless 😉

Brett,,your video's are great,,full of information I have been wanting to find for years,,thankyou mate👍👍🇦🇺
Brett is it still possible to get a physical copy of your book?
My book, which was originally released twenty years ago, is currently out of print. However, I am in the process of updating it and hope to have it back out later on this year. Thanks for watching.
Brett, where can I find your book? I have looked EVERYWHERE for the book and cannot find it.
Unfortunately, it's out of print. However, I'm currently updating and hope to have it back out in the near future. You might find a used copy on one of the book resale sites like abe, ebay, etc.etc.
Michael Anthony Giudicissi invites any Brushy Bill believer to come on his show to discuss the facts. Would you join him sometime? You raise some very valid points and I do like the work of Daniel Edwards.
Brett , your awesome with your research and I'm definitely convinced that brushy was Billy .

@@stevemccarty6384 Yes, that's Lew Wallace.
The horse that Barlow road in on was still there and was never claimed.
your work is amazing. however, i was told the publisher of lists WC Jamison;s books as fiction and he didn;t actually hear the tapes. is this true?
also, where are the tapes?

I saw on another site that apparently DNA testing is ongoing. What are your thoughts?
What book are you talking about?
@@brushybret oh it must have surfaced alot less recently than I thought, if you saw it early 2000's; but yeah it definitely looks like him
Where are the original recordings?
Only source I care about.
Must exist.
I’d love to hear them (as obviously you would) because irrespective of wether he was Billy the Kid he certainly lived in a similar time and it would be wonderful to hear him speak.

if u look at a picture of brushy bill and billy the kid there is no denying they have the same ears mouth nose and eyes if i was shown both those pictures and asked if it was the same person I would guess yes. A lot of evidence to support Brushy bill was Billy the Kid I'm actually starting to believe
The governor of New Mexico never met Brushy Billy, he wasn't born yet and was from Texas, but he did meet William Bonney as Billy the Kid. When Billy the Kid wrote a letter to the governor twice, this meant the governor already knew William Bonney as Billy the Kid.
I think you're confusing Governor Mabry and Governor Wallace. Roberts was the same age The Kid was said to be.

You said at the beginning of this video that you were getting Brushy’s story directly from his recordings. So would it be more accurate to say you are getting the information from someone who has heard the tapes? With all due respect I think the statement that you got the information directly from the tapes is not quite accurate.
I am quoting from the transcripts, which I clearly state. I also cite 5 books which also published quotes from the recordings.
Only thing that seems off is the ear lobes.

Billy the Kid, had detached earlobes, while Brushy Bills were attached. Your earlobes don’t change with age! Brushy Bill Roberts, was not the Kid

This is all we need to discern Brushy Bill could not have been the Kid. Why he claimed to be is anyone's guess.
The photograph that the gentleman who promotes this theory regarding the ears used a manipulated image of the Kid. I did a video on this, which includes source citations by two of the leading authorities on western photographs, as well as statements by John Meigs of the Lincoln County Heritage Trust.
