I love how she talks casually about her husband who just so happens to be Rian Johnson
Who’s Rian Johnson? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
It's so weird hearing her talk as a person and not reading stories about Hollywood scandals like a sexy ghost
Jacob Nash I HATE sexy ghost voice. Her normal is, well, normal. Much better!
Greg Nordlund I hear this complaint a lot, I actually really like her delivery, I think it fits the tone of the stories and the show as a whole, but it does seem to be divisive.
@@jacobnash7357 Thanks for giving it a name!! 👻
Omg I love her voice 🖤
Was thinking the same thing 👍
I love how some people will be so careful and gentle when picking things out but Karina just knows what she wants and is hyped.
Her podcast is great. I have listened to everyone and look forward to future podcasts.
Can you please have Brit Marling on? Karina mentioning Hilma af Klint made me think of an interview recently with Brit who also talked about Hilma’s art as well as other movies that have touched her in her life.
I do not know who this person is. Thank you, Criterion! #LearnEveryDay
1:59 so good!!
missing these :(
Thats how u do it
Baggedy Ann
I think she has the most underwhelming set of selections in the history of the closet. All those masterpieces and she picks some real crap to show how different she is.
A journey into the Criterion closet....Join me, won't you?
maaan criterion films so expensive thats probably like a grands worth she took
Oh its more than that lol
Looked like she mostly took dvds, though.
They want you to buy the channel
@Ricco Joannou yes! they go crazy haha
On their sales Blu-rays are $20 and these were DVDs mostly. So probably 300-400 at full price
I have listened to her Charles Manson's Hollywood series on her podcast at least 10 times...She is incredible and full of knowledge
Film Fury I listened to one episode while driving to the Greek Theater in LA and it was like an immersive experience
It's brilliant isn't it?
that was a great series
cry-tear-ee-AWN
More like *CRIH*-tear-ee-awn. Does she really not know how it’s pronounced? Something tells me.😳☹️
it is my ambition to become just famous enough to be invited to this closet
Omg same xD
Ah, to be in the same room watching a Buñuel film with Longworth and Johnson.
Omg! so weird to see her! I love You Must Remember This! Amazing podcast
You just write 10 movie on description but she pick like 978 more or less
Come on, we'd all break those rules if we were her.
66661111 We only see the ones where she says something reasonable enough to include in the edit....I suppose.
Very unique picks and cool stories behind every one. I’ll have to check out her podcast
It's the most wonderful thing. Older episodes first.
Same she seems like a cool person
my gateway was the charles manson episodes. they are brilliant.
Only after awhile, did we come to realize that Karina was making us unwitting accomplices to her Criterion collection shop lifting spree.
I have no idea who she is, but I like that she's not afraid to be silly-- that and she had no shame in filling up that bag!
Most of the reason I want to be a successful director is because I want Criterion to invite me to come do this. That's all I want.
People on Sunday is a great movie. Feels like a French New Wave movie and pre-dates them by 30 years. Makes you wonder how German cinema would have developed and the impact that would have had on world cinema if the Nazis didn't take over.
These videos could be 20min long and they always make them soooo short😔
Also she definitely took more than they showed her talk about!
yo she low-key got it
Yup that's the reason I clicked
Rian Johnson's main squeeze
Wheres the rest? That bag was bulging
Agreed, can we get the Criterion release of this? :-)
She had nothing to say of value (like with all of the picks they showed) so she just bagged it and moved on.
@@SupraWes lol
Have not seen any of those yet, other than Personal Shopper
Me too, exactly, and hoo boy, was Personal Shopper a snooze fest. I guess Kristin Stewart is the now Jerry Lewis.
You never know where Karina will pop up. I’m loving the current series on Polly Platt.
Rian Johnson is a lucky chap.
sarcasm?
pimppopotamustard What about her isn’t great? She’s smart, funny, and seems like a really interesting person. What’s not to like?
@@MatthewGeoffino Are you serious?
Hunter Dean Why wouldn’t I be?
@@MatthewGeoffino well she is lucky either. Rian johnson smart succesful guy.
As a die-hard Hollywood Classical Film Era fan ("LIFE Goes To The Movies" has been my all-time favorite book since discovering it during an internship at a bookstore in Switzerland 45 years ago), I truly love the fascinating YMRT podcast and the EXCELLENT research.
While I cringe at the awful pronounciation of T as D in the podcast, which sounds like she is either too tired or too lazy to differentiate between the two letters, I'm now glad to hear her natural voice, which is far more appealing than the one used in the podcast.
It's so weird hearing her talk as a person and not reading stories about Hollywood scandals like a sexy ghost
I have slowly been going through these but man would I love to see David Lynch(obviously everyone else too haha) but it would be so amazing to see Lloyd Kaufman's picks for this
Karina Longworth and Rian Johnson together is the ultimate relationship goal
these two as well as Barry Jenkins and Lulu Wang, for me.
For me the goal is santa and his elves
@@regimesoftruth Shit. You ruined Santa and his elves for me forever.
@@solwilde Also Noah Baumbach and Greta Gerwig
I like when they have someone I dont know and then I get to learn about them!
Filmmakers know if you’re invited to the closet, then you made it. Fuck an Oscar.
Karina, I am a massive fan of your Podcast. You pack in a ton of information, but most importantly you tell a cracking story! The best thing though is that you have a catchphrase!! I love a good Catchphrase.. Join us won't you.. yes I will!!
Get me to that closet pronto.
God I wish that were me
If only you knew how bad things really were
I haven't seen any of those. . . . wonder what else is in the bag.
Also, props to her for not saying "my husband - RIAN JOHNSON!" cuz I would've - every time. lol
Love your podcast. I listen to it every night. Went through it at least twice .just finished polly plat the invisible woman and came on youtube to see if i could find any interviews of her. I cant find any but found this. Thanks for your hard work..
tfw she said "my husband" :^(
I know.. and today I just found out she’s married to Rian Johnson
She chose a lot of the ones I love but are not popular like Marseille trilogy, Chronicle of a Summer, Mamma Roma
The same video with Tarantino will last at least 3 hours because he saw absolutely all the films present. Twice.
She needs to take a nap.
I never heard of her until a few minutes ago. I just watched this video, which is devoid of substance. I learned absolutely nothing about the movies she mentioned. The only positive is that it was brief. However, I was ready to turn it off at about 1:47, but didn't because I saw there were only 33 seconds left.
Please do a podcast on the murders of Sal Mineo and Christa Helm in West Hollywood. The parallels are interesting. Thank you!
"CRIT-TEARY-ON"?!? that's pretentious!
Sym-buy-oat
Terence Heesch yea that was so random at the end....like wtf
So is it pretentious when The Wolfpack pronounces it the exact same way?
Matthew Geoffino it was odd, gotta admit
Wait was it pretentious or did she just not know how to pronounce it correctly.
I Am Curious blue is better
Crikey how many has she got in her bag at the end? I thought you were only allowed five or six!!
Damn she had some really unique picks
She seems really interesting! Nice picks, will check her podcast out
Bring Rian Johnson...he will be safe here in the criterion community
He's an absolute shite film maker who deserves zero attention.
A screaming Hexagon! Like you could do any better than him.
@@MatthewGeoffino I probably could, thanks for the vote of confidence.
A screaming Hexagon! Well then hop to it then. You certainly have enough time to spare on saying negative things on the internet. Why not use that time productively, instead?
@@MatthewGeoffino Heavens forbid I have some down time, it's almost as if I have a multitude of things to do when I'm not online.
But I guess my dreams of becoming an author and screenwriter *must* be on hold due to my habit of "being negative" on the internet. That is such a cliche I can't barely fathom the thinking behind it. Still at least I know you can call my favorite writer/ director all the names under the sun and disparage his work all you want, and not get bent out of shape over it.
Great picks! Not the usual stuff.
"Cry-teer-ee-ON" she pronounced it this way on the podcast too
That's like the wrongest pronunciation lol
Sounded more like *Crih*
Please make a blu ray of Mamma Roma!
Expected her to have a NPR tote bag.
DVDS
Shouldn't this video be a lot longer or am I missing something?
"Loves of a Blonde" is one of the best films ever
No idea who she's, but nice picks.
Luis Gómez. Her podcast is seriously one of the best ones out there. A crash course in film history that is fun and engaging to listen to.
She’s also the wife of Rian Johnson.
Her podcast is amazing.
A commie who made a podcast about golden age Hollywood and every episode is about leftist political theory as applied to film history. Noticed she picked up what, one golden age film. smh. Another chance to see the real person when they grab free shit. A truly vapid human as seen through her choice of husband. lol
@@HoorayTV21 just why?
Wht happened to her YT podcast channel ?
Id like to see Karina direct a movie 🎥
Great comments by Longworth, I like her
Love the way she bags those discs. Boom - in it goes.
So she talks normal here, but her podcast voice is stab inducing.
when i get invited to the criterion closet, is when i see myself as complete
I hope to see ‘Personal Shopper‘ in this quarentine :)
Did she need to be somewhere?
Bring Lee Pace please
Is that how you supposed to pronounce Criterion?! 2:16
Definitely not!
Cute outfit.
PLease bring alberto fuguet
Don't mind your greediness. Ms. Longworth. It shows how knowledgable you are.
How about not having Multi Millionaire Actors and Directors (yes Ethan Hawke i mean you) getting to have free stuff that they easily afford without even blinking. I'd much prefer to have real film ethusiasts doing the picking and i say this because the single best episode of this show was when they allowed the children from the Wolfpack documentary to make the picks, the sheer joy of seeing them be allowed to take free stuff and how much it meant to them for films they probably couldn't afford was far more entertaining to see then Millionaires getting free stuff.
They don't often pick big stars or directors though. Besides, the appeal is seeing these people be more down to earth and like regular people.
You guys should get ben Stiller for this. Mostly because I've recently realized how underrated that guy is
I hope they release Loves of a Blonde on Criterion Blu-ray.
that's old hat. now you're supposed to say 4K
"V"
Kleptomaniac heaven
Pretty cool picks
How does one get to do this?! Because I would do literally anything.
Loves Of A Blonde is fantastic fam
Biopath RIP Miloš Forman
she is beautiful
Yesss!!!
cool, off-the-beaten path picks. Just a note, guests (as if they're listening) - take your time, don't rush ;)
Culprit LA Best example of taking your time installment of this was Harris Savides’ video. So insightful and heartfelt...
Still need to see Personal Shopper.
The worst of her picks, by far. I love Assayas but Personal Shopper is kinda mediocre.
It's a great podcast!!
Why don't you just go in with a big shopping trolley and take the whole lot.
😒😱 esta mujer es bien hambriada ,casi se lleva todo 🤔
Wtf...Cry-tear-e-on? Pardon moi!
You should try to get The Weeknd on here. He’s a huge movie fan
What are some of his favs?
Jacobs Ladder, Taxi driver, Eraserhead, OG blade runner, The Machinist, The Shining, anything Martin Scorsese ect
Luck he‘s got great taste! Thanks for the response!
@@Luckbeats So normie picks?
@@Luckbeats Lol those are amateur picks. It's like he's just discovered IMDb.
Fun fact her husband is Rian Johnson
Border Radio is a nice pick.
Please get David Lynch in here
The bag people, the bag!
omg
i had to make it x0.75 speed
...is this a super-hero?
Greed is good!
Can you imagine a person from a non-English speaking country who, every time she hears an American speaking, says with a fake American accent "Citizen Kane"? Sounds incredibly stupid, right?
Well, that's what she does when she hears Italians speaking and says "Mamma Roma" with that super-fake Italian accent.
Alberto Rossi Honestly, I would love it if a non-English speaker imitated an American accent. I would laugh my ass off.
Yes, it is silly. She admits it herself.
Crih-tiri-On?😳
