Because they explain the logic behind their sorter so you can adapt it to yor needs. This guy taught you to build one type of sorter rather than explaining anything.
This was very helpful. I did some work with those filters. If you set the amount of filters to eleven across the four spaces in the sorter, or simply set a stack of forty-one in one of the four occupied spaces the item you want filtered at the far left end will filter out to just one. For those of you who don't want a backlog of forty-one items in the machine, this will be very useful, and makes that diamond filter way less expensive. In Short so long as the filters in the system add up to forty-four you don't have a back log. The comparators are counting how many blocks are inside the hopper. EDIT: I see plenty of other people have had the same idea. Oh well. Many helpful voices are better than one. Was fun to experiment and share all the same. : p
@@toma1601 I've recreated the same sorting system and figured out the same thing. But I've noticed that instead of using 41 blocks in each hopper, you need 44 block (for filter) + the one element that you want to make pass through in that hopper. Repeat this for every hopper and it will work like a charm. (NOTE: I really suggest you to name with the anvil, like in the video, your filtering blocks like stone, cobblestones or whatever you're using).
Change the filter Item to 44 In stead of just 4. So You'll Have 4 Rows Of 11 Which is 44. that makes it so if you are sorting diamonds, you only need 1 instead of 41 diamonds. (There are better methods, this had been a while. Minecraft constantly changes)
SmittenMeteor63 it took me a while to understand bud do u see how in each hopper he has one item that he’s sorting and 4 slots of stone. Instead of 4 stone in each hopper you can do 44 stone in each hopper (11 per slot not including the slot in which the item that you will be sorting such as gold or diamonds). This makes it so you only need to use 1 diamond/gold/iron, or whatever block ur sorting, instead of 41. Tbh idk how that works specifically I just know that it does work.
For anyone wondering why is he putting only 4 fill items and 41 filter items instead of 44 fillers and only one filter item, the answer is simple: overflow protection With 45 items inside, the signal travels 2 blocks, so it does not activate the repeater, so it does not unblock the hopper, so items do not fall. As soon as it hits 46 items though, signal gets a length of three, making the item fall and it immediately falls back to 2 blocks, cutting the flow again. Well, with 41 filter + 4 fillers the max you can fill that hopper will be 64 items + 4 fillers, 68 total. The signal will still be 3 blocks long. However, if you want to do a budget version and put 44 filler items, you can overfill the hopper and make it 64 items + 44 fillers, 108 total, now the signal will travel up to 5 blocks instead of 3, and as a result, it will activate up to four other hoppers even though those hoppers should NOT activate, making them drop part of their filler items, breaking the whole system. I know 41 diamonds can be hard to obtain just to automatically sort them, but don't try to make it cheap because the time you'll lose fixing a big sorter will be longer than the time needed to obtain those 41 diamonds once you get a good pickaxe. In the mean time, you can simply not sort diamonds and pick them up at the unfiltered chest on the end, or simply drop them somewhere else instead of at the sorting system.

Rather than renaming a bunch of items and wasting xp, you can use the items you put in the first chest (e.g. cobblestone) as the filter for the rest, as it already would have been filtered out before it gets to the next part. Also, instead of wasting 41 of the item in the filtration, and 4 scrap blocks, you can use 44 scrap blocks and just one of the item you want to sort. Like 1 diamond rather than 41, for example.
Guy, I really like this videos because mostly every other Minecraft youtuber just assume that we already know how to do these things. Continue with the good work!
I’ve used this build in so many of my worlds, thank you! Just so everyone knows, this works for less than 5 items too, you just have to shorten it. I have it hooked up to a gold farm and sort only the nuggets and ingots, and the rest leads into a dispenser that shoots it out so it can despawn.
If you use 'EGG' as a filter item, 7 item is enough for the system. Or u can use 'Snowball' too. Please like comment for much people can see that information. Have a nice day ❤️
Your tutorials are amazing! Player minecraft since 2014 and had a break for the past 3 years due to you know, aging. Going through teenager years you tend to drop off games you used to play. Recently got back into it and playing on a realm with my twitch community. I always through red stone was extremely complicated and never thought I would ever be able to make anything even something as simple as this automatic storage system. Your tutorials made this idea so much more simple and makes it so much more fun and Interesting to do red stone
When you use the filter block can you leave more than one space so that two different items can go into one chest for example different types of leaves go into the same chest
How do you guys add the reject chest? Everytime I put something in the system that's not in a filter, it always gets stuck in a random hopper with space available
That's what the filler items are for. The sorting hoppers (the ones pointing to the chests) have the item to be passed on to the chest in their first slot, and the rest of their slots are filled with renamed dummy items so that they're always "full". Items that pass through the service pipe (the chain of hoppers above) will only come down to the sorting hoppers if the hopper in question has an instance of the same item on any slot (at least that's what I think, judging by the need to rename the dummy items) or otherwise an empty slot. If none of these conditions apply, the sorting hoppers simply don't pull the item from the service pipe and this item just keeps running down the pipe until it reaches the end. Then you can just point the end of the service pipe to a final hopper that drops the unsorted items to another chest.
You can also add a hopper at the end which goes directly into a dropper, which can dispense items into lava so as not to cause lag, but do what the other guy said for the other things, add the filters, but once you’ve add all your NAMED filters and added filter items then the drops you don’t want or if the storage is overflowing will go directly in the lava 👍
sure, why not. with water it will be required to use a dispenser going directly into the first water block - and dispenser are much slower than a hopper coming from a chest or chest cart. then leave out every 8th hopper/sorter machanics and put a block of ice with a sign on top in order to start a new water flow.
@TrymiXzツ Because of guardian farm obviously (The Guardians go through the nether portal and die giving well over 36k items a hour and I need that sorted ngl)
@TrymiXzツ Lol I use it as a guardian farm as it gives me 36k items per hour as I said some items include: Raw cod, Prismarine Shards, Ink sacs, Prismarine Crystals, these can all be made into Prismarine Brick, Sea lanterns ect, guardians do not drop ink sacs however they kill the squid which causes ink sacs to end up in the system
this isn't working on the server I'm playing on I think they might've messed with the tick rate, also what's happening is the items are going immediately to the bottom hopper but won't funnel into the chest. The server I'm playing on is mine superior Towny Abyss
Thank you so much! I used this for my pigman exp farm so I could get rid of the 10000 golden swords that were produced and with a quick modification, I could change the design to keep the good and filter out the bad, I just wanted to say thank you so much and that you have impacted a major role in my world and I hope you have a great day or night!

the items in mine didnt flow out when i put them in the hopper with the placeholders.. is it becaues i expanded it downward by 50 chests? or is it because im in 1.15.2
Did exactly everything as you did but once every item goes in my input chest It doesn’t sort the items It just transfers them to the excess chest.I am on 1.15.2 Vanilla Multiplayer Server.Need help please!
Also with the water things are more prone to getting sorted wrong if they skip over a hopper. As far as I know this sorting system literally can’t mess up the sorting. It also works in the nether where water doesn’t which is why I’m so excited about this design :)
Omg that was such a helpful vidieo! I was trying to figure out how to make that for so long but couldnt do it. But i was able to do thanks to this vidieo!😎😎
once the bottom chest gets full, it will start filling the one above it and so on. you can make it go down a lot of chests by just adding more chests+hopper behind it
I’m on Xbox one and when I put anything in the hopper it instantly goes through and nothing stops even the blocks I’ve named. Definitely doesn’t stop at 41 just goes all the way through. Can anyone please help??
I had the same problem and the mistake was a slab under the redstone comparator. You have to place the comparator on a full block! I play on PC (java edition) but maybe it will work for Xbox as well.
I was having the same problem until I played around and moved the redstone torches. For me, they needed to be on the block in front of the repeater, not the block it rests on.
The filter blocks are immediately transported to the chest after I put them into a hopper on 1.16.5 EDIT: Fixed the problem, apparently you have to use solid blocks and not glass as I first did.
@@MasterNooddle to aim a hopper at something that can be interacted with you gotta crouch and click to place on that thing (in this case the comparator)
If I am remembering the test I've done correctly, here is the fix; The hopper's have a weird mechanic where is stops with 45 total blocks in it. So in you're case fill the final 4 spaces with 11 each of a filter material, then the 1st slot will only require a single diamond to filter out. I'm fairly new at redstone and hoppers, but the tests I've done gave me that solution. I hope it does help!
You didn’t help me directly with the system, but thanks to you I remembered how to make the one I came up with, thanks tho, it was a blessing after not messing with redstone for awhile
The filter logic on the hoppers is so strange in Minecraft. Having no items should just have them behave as they do now, pass all items through. If you place *any* item in a given filter slot, then the hopper should then only accept that item (or those, if you have multiple filter items in place). So a hopper with cobble in the first slot but nothing else, would *only* pass cobble through. If you put cobble in that first slot, then gravel in the second, and sand in the third, that hopper would pass all cobble, gravel, and sand.
That's how mods do filtering, yup. The system could be made a lot simpler if something like the Grated Hopper (from Hopper Ducts) was in vanilla. If I'm understanding right, there's no actual filtering going on here. Not intentionally (as far as the mechanics are designed). The "filter" slots are the hopper's inventory. The hopper's inventory - or buffer - is filled up, and not allowed to empty out because the comparator locks the lower hopper (disabling injection into it) once the top one empties to a certain point (and thus emits a certain redstone level). Since the hopper will always pull from the first slot if it's occupied, and that slot never empties, it only ever accepts and passes through that item. It's functionally a filter, but mechanically a buffer that's not allowed to clear and happens to be useful because of the limitations of hoppers. Clever "abuse" of mechanics.

Can you do a part 2 on how to extend it on top part?
Right!?!? Like no one else is talking about this
I’ve used this build in so many of my worlds, thank you! Just so everyone knows, this works for less than 5 items too, you just have to shorten it. I have it hooked up to a gold farm and sort only the nuggets and ingots, and the rest leads into a dispenser that shoots it out so it can despawn.
does it work on 1.19?
@@h3mants0ni22 Haven't tried it yet, but it absolutely works in all versions of 1.18. I don't see why it wouldn't work in 1.19 though
You do not understand how less stressful this just made my life
If you use 'EGG' as a filter item, 7 item is enough for the system. Or u can use 'Snowball' too. Please like comment for much people can see that information. Have a nice day ❤️
And Ender pearls too I think

when you say "egg" do you mean using eggs as the actual item, or naming the filter item to the word "egg"

If you put 3 dirt and a wooden shovel does it work too or this one is different? (so ive seen and idk much☺️)
Your tutorials are amazing!
THIS MAN IS A GENIUS. Also all your other tutorials are amazing! im so looking at your channel if I need any other help with farms and things!
He explains every thing very very clearly i really love Shulkercraft vedios love from india🇮🇳❤️❤️
I challenge one person to build every single shulkercraft tutorial out there.
@Ryan Newton Lol
When you use the filter block can you leave more than one space so that two different items can go into one chest for example different types of leaves go into the same chest
nope, it prioritizes the first slot and random items will go into that second space
Nope
It is possible, just not with this type of item sorter. Using multi-item sorters it is possible, but they are very complicated and costly to make.
Underrated af
Donks I added the 69th like no need to thank me
Zero-two 02 and I will take that away
Prototype Nick nooooooooooo why? Why would you do this?!!!!!!
We had the *nice* going on
This guy can complete this within few minutes. While i need hours
It's cool that he build it on survival to tell it's survival friendly 😃
Anyone figure this thing out? It won’t sort for me
@@jakeengen7310 i think its bedrock only cause im on java and it didnt work either
This is so helpful, I learned a lot through 3 minute more than other UA-camrs that teaches nothing in 15 minutes!
could i use water to move the items around instead of hoppers? could i replace the top layer of hoppers with water?
Sam Moore probably
i dont think so
@@sisahraje5503 except that mumbo made it
sure, why not.
with water it will be required to use a dispenser going directly into the first water block - and dispenser are much slower than a hopper coming from a chest or chest cart.
then leave out every 8th hopper/sorter machanics and put a block of ice with a sign on top in order to start a new water flow.

oh thank god
Can this build be expanded to hold more types of items?
Edit: I tested it and it is expendable
if you mean expandable. Then yes, it is.
But can you expand it 500? times?
You can make it to sort two items for example ? It works ?

That has got to be the easiest tutorial for how to make that i have ever seen. Thanks Alot!! Just subbed.
Should have known to come here first...struggled with some other videos for a while but this one was the best. Thanks for your videos! =)
Short and simple. Thank you.
Thanks for watching :)
This is great to do in the nether because most systems you need water for.
@TrymiXzツ because of gold farm

omg dude thank you so much, this helps me a lot when i start playing on servers and need to find things easier
this isn't working on the server I'm playing on I think they might've messed with the tick rate, also what's happening is the items are going immediately to the bottom hopper but won't funnel into the chest. The server I'm playing on is mine superior Towny Abyss

Thank you so much! actually, you can make it more efficiently easier and cost less Iron and Redstone. (Also help saves more space if you made the redstone setup just above the ceiling of the storage room)

I'm trying so hard to get this lol. Why does it switch between less-than and greater-than signs, and what's the slash mean lol? Not hating on these types of textual "pictures", but usually you include a key so people can follow along (because it's not contextually obvious).
it's soo helpful for me because other youtubers, machine is soo hard to build. and you build is soo easy and good. Thx For this!
the items in mine didnt flow out when i put them in the hopper with the placeholders.. is it becaues i expanded it downward by 50 chests? or is it because im in 1.15.2
I expanded it too it should not be a problem and I'm also in 1.15.2. Maybe you messed up the redstone it really needs to be like the one in the video.
Mine worked for about 1o mins but then the placeholders went into the chests
Did exactly everything as you did but once every item goes in my input chest It doesn’t sort the items It just transfers them to the excess chest.I am on 1.15.2 Vanilla Multiplayer Server.Need help please!
Have you come right yet?
Hayden du Plessis Nope, still has the same issue.
Everyone else makes it so confusing with water elevators and such but this is like 10 blocks and your done
The more complex stuff is less costly though. He used one layer of hoppers at the top, where you could also use flowing water
@@ja_go_25 but like if u got iron farms who cares u know
Once you get the basics, use water instead of hoppers for top roll
Also with the water things are more prone to getting sorted wrong if they skip over a hopper. As far as I know this sorting system literally can’t mess up the sorting. It also works in the nether where water doesn’t which is why I’m so excited about this design :)
@@-Burb This is impulseSv's design but he actually said it was design in the description.

yo does it work?
Is there a way to utilize the chests on top or are those just decor?
once the bottom chest gets full, it will start filling the one above it and so on. you can make it go down a lot of chests by just adding more chests+hopper behind it

can we keep two different stuff in one chest with same technology?

I’m on Xbox one and when I put anything in the hopper it instantly goes through and nothing stops even the blocks I’ve named. Definitely doesn’t stop at 41 just goes all the way through. Can anyone please help??
There’s no hopper
I had the same problem and the mistake was a slab under the redstone comparator. You have to place the comparator on a full block! I play on PC (java edition) but maybe it will work for Xbox as well.
could be that this is designed for java, and the red stone may not work on console editions
@@olliewills1227 I'm playing on Java and have the same problem.
I was having the same problem until I played around and moved the redstone torches. For me, they needed to be on the block in front of the repeater, not the block it rests on.

The filter blocks are immediately transported to the chest after I put them into a hopper on 1.16.5

Aim hopper towards comparator
@@MarcDrt71 how so
@@MasterNooddle to aim a hopper at something that can be interacted with you gotta crouch and click to place on that thing (in this case the comparator)
Is there a way to make it so you don't need at least 41 of the item for it to work? I only have 32 diamonds.
There's a way where u can do 21 items only also
pixlriffs did a video on auto sorting and he mentions something like this
If I am remembering the test I've done correctly, here is the fix; The hopper's have a weird mechanic where is stops with 45 total blocks in it. So in you're case fill the final 4 spaces with 11 each of a filter material, then the 1st slot will only require a single diamond to filter out. I'm fairly new at redstone and hoppers, but the tests I've done gave me that solution. I hope it does help!
The hopper locks at 45 items. For your filler stacks make them stacks of eleven. That way you only need 1 of whatever you need to sort.
Easy find more diamonds
Clever "abuse" of mechanics.
thanks finally i dont need to sort it btw i sub
