Inside (stylized in-game as INSIDE) is an independent puzzle-platformer adventure video game developed and published by Playdead, following the critically-praised Limbo from 2010. The game is thematically and visually similar to Limbo, where the player controls a young boy in an eerie, monochromatic-like landscape, solving environmental puzzles while avoiding death in a 3D sidescrolling fashion.
Inside was released on Xbox One on June 29, 2016, and on Microsoft Windows on July 7, 2016. The game has received near-unanimous acclaim, with critics and reviewers calling it a worthy successor to Limbo.

Just finished this game with the secret ending as well as normal ending.
My take on the secret ending, is that YOU ARE THE ONE controlling the kid. The screens in the background are computer screens and the mind control helmet is YOUR LINK to the INSIDE WORLD. With out the power, then you loose your link to the INSIDE WORLD, and thus the game is over.
It shouldn't be a surprise that the boy is being controlled the whole time, I mean you controlled the boy through the whole game. The devs here break the fourth wall and in doing so break our brains.

Seems like a 'meta' kind of ending. The cable that is pulled out might as well be for a controller as the player immediately loses control of the boy. Those computers in the background shut down and the game quits soon after.
It's like I willingly destroyed the game.

i agree. i kind felt that way about the normal ending, as well. the amalgam of bodies sets itself free by via the player, then severs control when it reaches its destination.
CjuGames - Let's Plays & Walkthroughs I think that the ball was using that to control you the whole time and when you unplug it it loses control and you stop moving because your will was not your own and you're just as mindless as all the other people
You became like one of the slaves. You took the same pose that some of them do when they're "turned off." It's almost like you were a puppet too, just on a different level.

Wow, Cju. I admire your patience and tenacity in doing this for all of us. My ADD brain was silently shrieking at the thought of all that trial and error. :>) As others have said, great commentary and editing. Can't say that the overall picture of what was going on is any clearer--it would seem that the speculation is part of what the designers intended.
I really wish we could have gotten your reaction for when you discovered this part yourself. Even if it was something along the lines of watching a video and was spoiled the whole thing, because I kind of wanted to hear what your thought process was and your OWN speculations of what's going on. I loved your commentary throughout the game and your theories that you continually had to revise and outright throw out through the series, and I wish we could have watched your reaction to this ending sequence.
It would be neat as hell if Playdead made a sequel (eventually) which would wind up explaining that ending or beginning where it went dark or shortly right after. I really want a sequel! That world was too bizarre. 👍🏻☺️
The ending wasn't nothing that I expected but I must say I appreciate your work in making this video and showing us what to do.
I think that the cord that he pulled disconnected everyone from being mind controlled or puppets...including himself. So he was a puppet the entire time
Edit: I also think the reason the game is called Inside is because you’re inside of that blob in the regular ending

Siddhant Das just go forward all the way inside the big orb then then hold b on Xbox and make the left stick pull left and same on ps4 but you hold O
I believe it’s called inside because in truth your being controlled without any meaning, you don’t know what you are doing and why you are going forward. And at the very end, when you get out. You are outside, there you somewhat rest or die. I think the point of the game was to get outside, as you are trapped inside the labs and flooded work place.
How the hell did you get that music pattern wow.
The music pattern is playing in the background, of the third orb in the city when you have to jump between the drain pipes and go through the sewer grate.
OMGGGGG remember in the factory on the free trial, how the mind controlled people would rest when the weren’t being controlled, he sat exactly like that, and with this info I wholeheartedly agree that in the storyline, the main character is being controlled the whole time.
And maybe not even by us what if, there were people who were not test subjects and who wanted to put an end to all the things that the people were doing, but to do that, they had to destroy all 13 orbs.
But then that raises the question, who was the boy? Was he a volunteer? Did they make him be put under mind control? Or was he made and not born?
When I was playing I found the 4th and 12th one. My brightness was always all the way up while playing that game

Wow. By the logic that a mind in the hat may control another mind, the hat in the secret ending instead connected a seemingly electrical system to the hat. That system may well be connected to the blob in the normal ending. So it’s the blob controlling the protagonist to join them all along.

After I finished this ending, i was like “where did all of my hard work of destroying orbs go?” 🥺😭
So the entire time... That was going on. Between the whole slave race being used by the elites, freeing the amalgamate of bodies, and pulling the plug at the end... I feel like the game is trying to make a point about freedom and control. Maybe I'm way off base, but that's just the trend in themes I'm noticing.
the point of the game is to make you think about... Whatever you think it means, it sounds silly but everyone thinks about it differently. Just like what people like to say about modern art.

In the underground room with computers, you can see the helmet flicker and the whole contraption move a bit when you jump

Wow. So, a dark ending either way. Really loved this game, but I wish the regular ending weren't so anticlimactic. I don't need everything explained; I was just hoping that the boy and/or the blob would have some kind of _real_ escape. Even if it just ended with the blob swimming out to the open sea, I would've felt better.
How did I not even accidentally come across any of these??
Oh that place in the ending there's actually an easier way to get there other than going to pull those orb light things its just in the cornfield at the 2 orb but somewhere else is what I think since I saw a video showing that place except pulling those orbs

So let me get this straight. The boy has been controlled all along, and the secret ending is the boy freeing himself, but all the while dooming himself. Oddly enough, at first I wasn’t paying attention and was waiting for a jumpscare. I didn’t get one, and rewatched to find this.
In a literal sense, the player controls the boy. The final mind control helmet we see isn't connected to a person, it's on a series of monitors.
Contained in the game, it could be gathered the blob from the normal ending was controlling the boy and shut down the mind control network.
How are you supposed to head all the way back to the field? No one explains this

I don't know how to describe it, but it's near the end of the game. If you play through the whole game, you'll eventually get to it.

I had the same question, figured it was in that part just before you go see the blob
if he survived the encounter with the water friend, he'll actually be alive. the water friend killed him that's why he can breathe underwater and in full mind control.
I think that water creature trying to help him..but there's no other choice but only using that device for him to breath so he could find orbs deep underwater..

The normal ending is a metaphor for birth. The secret ending is the fetus (the player) dies.

One possible meaning is somehow in today's world we are all "Plugged In" somehow and by pulling the plugs he's Freed Himself/Us from that world. Or the developers of this game are telling us that we spend waaaay to much time playing video games and to unplug the game and go do something else.
This isn't an alternative end. This is resetting the game. After the connector is removed, all the generators are working again.

If you let me, the most disappointing alternative ending ever! I was expecting so much than a fucking black screen... considering the deep "meta ending", I don't know. Basically you finally find a way to stop the madness on a irreversible way, but we'll never know what is this madness itself. One theory of mine is that while playing the game the dogs, the goons are 'naturally' connect to this machine, the boy only connects to all of them via that helmet, it's like an experiment to connect people and animals in some fashion of bizarre interspecies shared collective consciousness.
Yeah, they could easily have connected to LIMBO or something.

Something I read was that you lost control over the hivemind because it was satisfied (hence being able to control the people inside, they wanted to escape). It makes some sense I think
