    That ending could mean that the kid was dead the whole time, like the rest of those zombie things, and by unplugging himself he could finally rest.

      The first ending does make sense. You just have to figure out what all of what you (the kid) did means.
      [SPOILER ALERT]
      IMO, you're trying to stop the mind control. The kid seems to know where he's going (straight to the labs) and what he's going to find there. You go to unplug the overmind but it absorbs you. Earlier in the story you get the permanent mind control power from the helmet thing that came off. It seemed to me like it had lasting effects because after that, you can still control the goons without the helmet. Anyway, this enables you to control the overmind, rather than becoming part of the collective (I think this may be why certain workers 'help' you do stuff. You're passively controlling them). So you continue to do what you came to do... kill the overmind.

    my theory is that the devs are actually breaking the 4th wall , the
    "meatball" is actually a representation of the devs team that at the end
    of the game are taking their deserved sunbathing rest at some beach
    somewhere
    the faceless kid is the player , and if the player go for the
    alternative ending he's a small percentage of actual players who will go
    for such complicate and time consuming endeavor to find such hidden
    ending . due to the fact that most likely that kind of player is 1% of
    the actual players who bought the game , make sense that the ending
    would be no sunbathing and earned vacations for the devs

    The ending of this video... Hmmm, I think the person who was plugged to the controlling device is supposed to be the player itself, cuz as soon as the boy pulled the the electric thing, the device shut down and the boy somewhat died (?) and the screen turned black.

      that actually sounds plausible.
      in the original ending, the player can no longer control the "meatball" once it breaks free from the labs facility. so i guess the purpose of the game is to be set free from the player, all along.
      so you beat the game when you can't control the character anymore no matter the ending version you get.

    You know what? I think that sometimes, "disappointing" endings are saying how hard work doesn't always bear fruit, or you don't always get rewarded, despite your efforts. Or sometimes, satisfaction isn't guaranteed (despite the commercial products), or end the way that you want it to, it just is. It exists, no matter what you do, and no matter what you think. No matter how much you hate it, loathe it, despise is, it's still there. Indifferent. Apathetic. Non-feeling. It's almost like, even if YOU control others, doesn't mean that you're not controlled either.

      AGrayPhantom Genuinely bad endings can't be excused, but some endings can be interpreted differently to find deeper meanings and such. My explanation of sorts doesn't work for everything, but if you can apply it to an ending that disappointed you and it works, great! Since it's a matter of opinion, it's a bit tricky to decide on that. May I ask what the game that you played was?

      "Some endings can be interpreted differently to find deeper meanings..."
      Yeah, no. You can do that with a story with a proper, literal conclusion _while having metaphors and allegories_. You can do that with any story. However, Inside doesn't provide a satisfying reveal or conclusion. It only provides more mystery without any solutions.
      "May I ask what the game that you played was?"
      I don't understand your question. If you're wondering what game I spent money on, it's Inside. We're talking about Inside.

      +AGrayPhantom I thought it was a VERY satisfying ending. I love games that leave you asking questions. What's the fun in having answers spoon-fed to you? Play it how it is and respect the game for its open-endedness. Life isn't always about the answers. It's about the questions we ask ourselves that define who we really are. I honestly think the game, at its core, is trying to get us to ask the ultimate question: why? No specific why, just why. The why that pervades everything that was, is, or will be. The ending felt perfectly complete to me, BECAUSE of its simple incompletion. If that makes any sense XD

      "I thought it was a VERY satisfying ending. I love games that leave you asking questions. What's the fun in having answers spoon-fed to you?"
      I'm not asking for answers to be spoon-fed to me. I'm asking for any answers at all. Inside fails to provide any narrative structure, aiming for an experience entirely using pathos, but without any logos.
      "Play it how it is and respect the game for its open-endedness."
      No, I won't. Where do you get of telling me how to enjoy my games?
      "Life isn't always about the answers."
      This isn't life, it's a video game. It's a video game with no proper conclusion.
      You then go on to this philosophical rant, but it's pointless to quote you at this point.
      Here's my beef. Any story can be up for interpretation. Any story can be analyzed and seen from different perspectives. In fact, nearly all stories can, but a good story will still provide literary satisfaction. A good story typically follows a natural progression of intro, plot, climax, ending, and denouement. Inside does none of this.
      It's like a murder mystery that doesn't reveal who the killer is. Inside doesn't even attempt to provide any hint to the "why" we're all asking, which is unbearably disappointing.
      So unfortunately, no, an incomplete story does nothing for me. But I'm glad you liked it.
      As for the game itself, it was good. I enjoyed it. It didn't break, glitch, or crash, and the framerate never dropped below 60. Kudos.

    (My opinion on this monstrosity of the game) So what i'm KIND OF getting from this whole Inside game is that:The player and the blob are connected in some sort of way. The kid is being controlled by the big blob AND the player... The big blob wants to free itself and the kid is just another small mutation to do just that. But the player is the one controlling it all and can also control the kid, so the thing you pull out in this ending is a cable connected to a helmet connected to other cables (Which i see as a way for the player to control the kid, i'll explain in a bit), which are somehow connected to the blob. And when the player makes the kid pull out that cable, he is no longer being controlled by the player and the blob has lost it's connection to both the player and the kid so that kid can not be controlled by either. The screen slowly turns black and the kid is getting on one knee like all the other mindless mutations when you're done using them. So the player was basically pretty much done with using the kid. In the ending where you turn into a blob is a little different. It connects to the kid with the four helmets connected to it's body and since you're just doing what the game is telling you to do, the blob basically has full control. The mermaid was a mutation which had begun breaking glass and ruining the whole base for the exact same reason: The blob wanted to be freed, so it had to have a slave to do it for it. But the mermaid couldn't leave the water so it was stuck in there and the blob had to find another way. When the kid is in the water, the blob takes control of the mermaid too and wants it to help the kid, help the blob. (As to when you die by the mermaid, it's probably help gone wrong) When you're underwater the fish follows you just like the chicks and the 'people'. So it's pretty much Follow The Leader at this point. The kid gets into where the blob is and the people on the other side of the glass are unsure. If you pull off one helmet, they will cheer you on to basically kill the blob. But they don't know that the kid is also just a controlled zombie. So when you get into the blob, it has gotten enough power to break free and BE free. it solves puzzles and the people help it. But not to get out. When you're 'out' you're not out in freedom, it's only what they want you to think. You're in some sort of area, that you can actually see at some point before you're really there. When you fall down building floors and land in this little area surrounded by glass. It's the exact same scenery as when you get out. So you're still stuck and not actually free. The people think they control the blob. The blob and player controls the kid. The kid can control the zombies. The player eventually controls the blob, the zombies, and the kid. The people control the destiny. The player controls the game, and so on... It's all a game of who're the Puppets? And who exactly is the Puppeteer?We want know until it's solved and somebody gets spot on with their theory and the game makers confirm it XD

    The alternate ending just shows how far the evil organisation has gone. It's taken mind control of so many people to the point in which only a COMPUTER, using artificial intelligence, can mimic the true feelings and emotions of a human being (in which this case, was the boy). In some playthroughs, take note of how the boy shows panic and stress is many situations, like trembling breathing or (in the very first part when he is running from guards and dogs) he has the instinct to run away faster to avoid being killed.

  • @Freedom-mu2rf
    @Freedom-mu2rf 8 років тому +24

    I think I know the reasoning for the secret ending. The boy at the beginning is being chased because he escaped being plugged in with the control clip. He seems to know about the devices that control the humans. With that being said at first he tries to shut it down so the evil people can't control the experimented people anymore. But sadly during his journey he is implanted by the chip in the water scene with the mermaid. Now I think this is where two routes go. Either he still knows about the device and how to shut it off or we the player have gained full control of the boy and he has lost his memory. So this is why we decide with ending happens. I don't know this is just a theory and also since he is controlled by the chip once he turns off the "hive mind" machines it also kills him because he was controlled.

    • @Ectomotive
      @Ectomotive 8 років тому

      Hmm, I personally think that this theory sprinkles some important details into the popular theory of the player controlling the boy! Like...you've just brought light to some factors and details that elaborate on the existing theory! Not totally deviating from the original, but still adding more to it that could change some perspectives and let people see the theory in a new light. I like it!

      I got some questions for you. How would the mermaid have attained the mind controlling chip? Was it given to her? Did she find it somewhere? How would she know how to use it? Did anyone explain the function of it to her or does she just know? How would anyone have known that there was some mermaid creature living out there within the deep dark depths of the sea? Was she captured by the scientists of the lab then had a mind control chip put into her brain? So many questions!

    Neat note:
    The letters on the roof / in the pit near the 5th orb where the music is playing spell REC, a subtle hint to players that the sounds are important. What's more, the "E" from REC is visible again near the 14th orb, to jog the player's memory about that location. It's pretty solid game design.
    Here's a question:
    In the background near the 14th orb on the orb status board are some partly washed away letters. What I'm pretty sure of are ENTE_ _O_S_SEQUENCE*. Hint? Meaningless environmental ambiance? I dunno, but to the right of those letters is what looks like a tetris piece, which is the same shape as the door code input near the second orb, so I am guess there is some significance there. Thoughts?
    *{Weirdly, I'm pretty sure the letter after E is not R}

    I have a theory as well. I'll start with the humans those humans in this story planned everything down to the very last drop. Hence why you see a perfect copy of the game's primary ending location when the blob kid crashes through the floor. Now to attach to that theory if you actually look for the secrets that you destroy i think they are extenders of the kid's headset so he can operate properly without fail. Basically because as you can see in the alternate ending he is being controlled by a computer which most likely has a set program which i think why his headset was hooked up to a computer. they made a program for him to follow that programs operation? get him to the blob fuse with it then get to that ending area. i hope you guys understand me on this. i would love to hear your responses.

  • @iheartbinary
    @iheartbinary 8 років тому +2

    I think the big blob is the Hivemind, and also the Player. I believe it somehow controls the mind of the boy who we can see sneaking INSIDE the facility. (Even tho it feels as if you are running.)
    I think the humans try to capture the boy as he is an intruder and does not belong there, as they are clearly conducting experiments on paranormal life. (Extraterrestrial maybe)
    I don't know why the humans are so excited about the Hivemind, but it seems they have somehow harnessed its ability to mindcontrol other beings as they are using the same technology to control those bodies for the apparent purpose of manual labor.
    In the normal ending, the boy makes it INSIDE of the Hivemind and then breaks free. Again, it fits with the Hivemind being used as a tool. Perhaps it just wanted to be free from the life it was stuck in. Even tho it dies trying to escape, it seems almost peaceful as there is just silence and nature.
    The alternate ending seems to be the Hivemind killing itself, unplugging all the cores and finally shutting the whole thing down. The boy seems to die as well, implying he is probably just another corpse being used by the Hivemind.

    • @iheartbinary
      @iheartbinary 8 років тому +1

      Another idea I have is that the boy is infected with one of those worm parasites which maybe allows for a corpse to be mind controlled. (Who knows what it does to living beings, maybe makes them go mad like the pig?)
      When the blob escapes, perhaps it killed itself on accident from rolling down the hill, and it became out of range of the machine that allows for mind control of the parasites.
      When the boy pulls the plug, perhaps it shuts off the mind control machine, freeing the blob but losing control of the boy in the process. (We cannot really know what happens.)

    • @iheartbinary
      @iheartbinary 8 років тому +1

      But then there's always the idea that something was controlling the blob that was controlling all the other things, and that by breaking free for whatever reason you left the maximum range of the mind control device, which means the blob goes back to being a corpse, which means if it was controlling the boy, the boy is also out of range.
      And by shutting down the machine it also shuts down everything on every level of mindcontrolception.

      I think the humans or the scientists were trying to free the "meat ball" because of the suffering they had put the humans into. So maybe they decided to help it get out to see the sun and let it rest there forever content, Knowing that it is free. Because the "meatball" is made up of humans, so it must have feelings too. So finally being free...They can be happy? Idk

      The progress seems to be achievement-based. If my theory is correct, you could simply load each section you found on your first run in order to break each of the lamps and then load to get to the recording devices and cornfields respectively. In other words, you only actually need to play through to the meatball section once. In fact, you might not even have to ever reach the first ending in order to get the second one.

    oh I get I the kid is one of those zombie things and when you do the alternate ending he unplugs the helmet in the back ground which the person in the back ground is basically you in the game and when he unplugs it look at how he sits down just like the other zombies and so yeah that's my guess

  • @xsorex561

    • @hannahhardy860
      @hannahhardy860 8 років тому

      I think this i just a quick ending that you can get, not really quick, where it shows that everyone is connected to those machines that control them and when you unplug the big switch, the main character even goes offline or whatever. Everyone is a robot or clone or whatever they are called.

    • @hannahhardy860
      @hannahhardy860 8 років тому

      either that or he just went tired and was like "I did it, its over"

    • @inceptional
      @inceptional 8 років тому +14

      We're all slaves to the machine, even those of us who think we are somehow free of it. And the machine is just a bunch of mostly faceless men going about their day to day lives and jobs, serving the whims of the corporations; they are the people who keep the machine running. If you try to escape the machine you'll just get caught in the end and sucked back into it, whether you want to be part of it or not. Basically, it's near futile trying to be free anymore, because you inevitably never are. I think the only way to truly be free is to destroy the entire machine completely-unlikely-or maybe just die trying.
      The "machine" is modern society, capitalism, business/corporations, banks, money, greed, selfishness, work (the 9-5 trap) . . .

    • @simon9902
      @simon9902 8 років тому

      But the machines could be our freedom sayed Nietzche, paradoxally with industrialism who could free humans being of works/labour, inequallity, hunger, from is conditions, we have strangely see the ''works'' beginning to be the most rated value wich is strange because with the ''death of god'' and freewill the notions of merits just disappear and values are lost, equally ''work'' as always be seen as Torture, it's is etymology in many languages, as something for slaves even Parmenide, and Shakespear, or Thomas more (Utopia) was laughing at that. The industrialism was the promise of more social life but we're in pure Individualism, like human ideas never changed in more than 2000years it almost, seing surely regress.

    What pisses me off is that none of the endings explains the following:
    Why are so many buildings submerged in water?
    What's up with the mermaid?
    If the people want to catch the kid alive, why send murderous dogs after him?
    Why did they let the blob-thing live if it turned people into zombies?
    Among many other things, but I those where the ones that bothered me the most.

    • @leafie6604
      @leafie6604 8 років тому

      - It's a dystropian world, a lot of things are destroyed and/or abandoned. Judging from all the water and mud it has been raining for quite some time, and if all of the people have been turned into meat puppets there wouldn't be any kind of maintenance anywhere and there could be flooding. Much of this game also takes place underground, and near water.
      - The mermaid creature was an experiment created in the lab just like the other zombie-like things, it was most likely a failed experiment since the others are dead in tanks. The fact that it has a chain around it's leg means that it probably escaped before it could be captured and it attacks out of fear. Later once it finds out that you're not one of the scientists going to hurt it it tries to help you by giving you the ability to breathe underwater, since it probably knew the area well and knew you wouldn't be able to progress without it.
      - They didn't want to catch the kid alive they try to shoot and kill him on sight. They probably knew the kid managed to escape while they were rounding up other people to zombify and wanted him dead because he "knew too much" or something along those lines.
      - The blob thing didn't escape, nor does it turn people into zombies. The mind control machines turn people into zombies and then they feed them to the blob to make it bigger and stronger. There is a replica of a forest and beach in one of the lab displays that the blob crashes into. Later when it "escapes" it lands in the same forest on the same beach. It's trapped in a biodome made to look like the outside.

      @inceptional 8 років тому +14

      Pretty sure both endings are actually rather great, if you get what they're trying to tell/tech you. And, to be clear, the endings don't exist in a vacuum; they go hand in hand with the rest of the game's themes and ideas. The overall message and sentiment is the point, and the endings are basically the moral or the tale, the warning.

    • @Ddotkay
      @Ddotkay 8 років тому +14

      +inceptional the argument you are making is pretty weak. Do you like pizza? If the answer is no by your logic it must be because you don't understand why it's tasty. My point is I understand the endings I just didn't enjoy it, the puzzle mechanics on the other hand I did enjoy. It's just a matter of opinion rather than a lack of understanding. I made that clear in my last comment to be fair...

    • @Ddotkay
      @Ddotkay 8 років тому +11

      +inceptional That's ridiculous, you can't compare my opinions on the ending of a game to a war, I get what you are trying to say but it's an obvious straw man argument as holding an opinion that war is a good thing is obviously retarded where as my opinion isn't as black and white. Even being aware of the moral connotations of the game doesn't change the fact the ending was extremely pretentious. It was able to abruptly end the game with the notion of "oh that's what the games about" if that was true why not end the game when the boy was sucked into the blob, or when captured by the girl in the water? It would have the exact same effect of trying to give the player the feeling that the developers intended. It's because at those points they still had ideas for gameplay which is the core component to any "game" the morals and story should compliment the game not be the game because all that does is leave gamers with a sense of unfulfilment and attracts pretentious types like your self.

    No offense to the publisher of this video, but no way in hell did you figure all of this on your own. I mean, the hidden door in the cornfield, and that one orb that was behind the column towards the end of the game where you needed two of the guys to split from the rest of the group to help you up to reach it.... how in the world would you have EVER known to do that if it was want the publishers of the game giving you a hint? Or the pattern to open the door?.... No hate or anything, I just find it too crazy to believe you knew about all this without Playdead's help. They seem like one in a million type longshots.

      Search Galm's gameplay of Inside. He did not get all the rooms but the way he discovered the solutions on the spot was genius.

      +REX-On Thing is, Game Informer got a copy of the game before the general population, so one thing I'll give them the benefit of doubt with is time. To find what they found certainly wasn't on the first time playing the game, or 2nd or 3rd, they must've spent hours carefully examining every nook and cranny of the game.
      I still find the whole playing the right tune to open the door to be way too out there for them to have figured it out on their own. My guess is Playdead or someone involved with the development of the game either told them directly or gave em a major hint.

      Michael from Achievement Hunter (Rooster Teeth) found the one in the corn field immediately during their Let's Watch of it (like Let's Play, but with other members of the group watching and commenting). He was running through the field, and found the hatch because the kid stopped moving cause his leg got caught on the hatch. So he jumped over it, then turned back and tried to activate something, opening the door. So yeah, it's entirely possible - and likely - that you can find it on your first playthrough.
      As for the one behind the pillar, while Michael didn't find it, you can see a hanging rope/wire when approaching from the left, so it's also entirely possible that they were curious and wanted to see if they could grab it.
      Edit: misspelled a word.
