Not just that, one of the least busy trains for a while, did you notice how many passengers got on at the varies stations! not many considering that it was the rush hour, perhaps it was a Sunday morning.
Considering I have to travel with Southern daily during term time at uni, I concur. I'm only travelling the less busy East Coastway but the service is horrendous. Even worse on the Brighton Main Line itself!
I liked the Apology for 'Severe Lag We Might Encounter', any excuse for a late running train ;) Hope it isn't the wrong type of Lag! Great video as always, the cab sounds are very authentic and makes a lot of difference to the experience. When setting off on a journey you should carry out a running brake test (i.e. reduce the speed of the train by at least 5mph) before stopping at the first station, on a 442 it should be a running brake test with the Auto brake, you can then switch back to EP for the actual stop. This obviously tests the brakes as well as giving the driver a feel for the brakes which could vary especially in the old days when they used brake blocks. Thats not a criticism just thought I'd mention it.
Haha, yes, it was the wrong kind of lag ;) Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video. I really enjoyed driving this train, and the sounds are much more realistic with the AP sound pack installed. I should indeed have done a brake test, I've been on enough trains where they do that! I just forgot to do it in this video. I didn't realise that you would normally do it with the auto brake though. Thanks for the tip, I will try and bare it in mind for any future Class 442 videos :)
Thanks Roger, glad you enjoyed this video and it was clear for you to see. As I really know this route I decided to try and let that come through in the commentary :)
Sir, that train is not parked! Thank you for this excellent video. Very much enjoyed watching it. And the lag you anticipated wasn't anywhere near as bad as I expected. I think you got the balance just right.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed this video. I agree, the lag wasn't quite as bas as I expected either. I wish you could run this game lag free, but alas that's not currently possible.
Brilliant instruction, but just one minor thing... With these units - and infact all Southern Region units from '51 stock up to this '88 stock, as soon as the train has started moving, you can open the power handle ( more correctly called the 'Master Controller' ) all the way to Notch 4 (Weak Field). The official driving instructions state that the fastest rate of acceleration can be obtained by opening the power controller all the way to Notch 4.
I can't believe that the community is doing the work of creating networks out of the available DLC that DTG ought to have been setting as their goal from the start.
Because the game isn't designed for large routes with lots of scenery - see performance issues on the recently released JT western mainlines (at launch - the patches have significantly improved performance) and the fact a Bedford to Brighton run on Danny's merged routes can and will crash because of the TS2016 memory limit
Robert Powell But that speaks to the fact that they never bothered to try and make the game capable of handling this. Their priorities were elsewhere. I wouldn't be surprised if the next iteration wasn't any better in this regard.
32bit limitations my friend - can't use more than about 3.6 gigs of memory before the game ups and dumps. - TS2017 is going to be on UE4, thus 64 bit - I will be very disappointed if the routes aren't either a) longer or b) far more detailed or c) a combination of the two ;)
Great video as always Pete. I've traveled on this line a fair bit between Redhill and Gatwick on the service from Reading as I've flown from there on a number of occasions. That's a really nice run and it would be great to see it as a future route or even extension to this or the Portsmouth Direct line. Just out of interest, how long does it take you to set up a scenario with this many AI trains in? I've created a few in the past with about 20 or so and that took me ages. Maybe you could do a video showing how you create yours?
There is an extension to the PDL to include the BML, West Coastway and Arun Valley and also the SWML to Waterloo, check out UK Route Designs on Facebook
Thanks Will. I really enjoy driving this route, it's definitely my favourite in Train Simulator. I'd love to see the route down to Portsmouth from this line via Horsham and Arundel at some point in the future. This scenario took me around 8-hours of work to put together. Thankfully it worked the first time when I tested it, or else it could have taken many more hours than that! I do plan on making a scenario creation tutorial in the future, I just haven't got round to it yet :)
Good video mate, out of interest, could you tell me what carriage the other internal passenger view is in, I.E what coach, driving vehicle or same as the head of window view, would love to know, cheers Nathan
Anyone who wants to see a totally different view of the first part of this route (from the perspective of a totally different sim) ought to check this out. www.simsig.co.uk/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=usertrack:areainfo:brighton
Sure, here you go :) steamcommunity.com/workshop/browse/?appid=24010&searchtext=south+london+to+brighton&childpublishedfileid=0&browsesort=textsearch§ion=home
Hey, can you link me to a great lb scenario? Since the ts workshop is messed up I didn't find any high AI scenarios during morning/evening rush hour.. Thanks!

I'd believe it's and interlock which switches on and off when the train hits a certain speed and therefore acts most likely as a safety device for door operation, I could be wrong
+Gofaq Yusef yeah you have, but I don't know if you can even get the caledonian sleeper in train simulator but I know you can get the class 91 first Scot rail livery.
You can get the Caledonian Sleeper on the West Highland route but it is much shorter than the full train as it's the Fort William portion of it. Class 91 in First Scotrail livery?. I'd like to see that!. Or do you mean the class 90?.
I really enjoy your videos, very well made and seems like you put a lot of effort into them. what do you use to record the game footage? it's good quality.
I do hope they bring out the Ashford int - Brighton route as not only does it go to the station literally down the road from me but it also goes along side the sea front which I think is quite nice.
You mean the Shard as the trains enters London Bridge, the capital's first railway station, now fit for the 21st century as an almost renovated terminal. 1836 it was originally opened. Useful to connect other destinations like Charing Cross for the West End and Cannon Street for the City as well as Brighton and London Victoria. Frequent Thameslink trains run along the route to London Bridge and beyond towards Bedford and I believe there are new links to Cambridge and Peterborough as well as Sevenoaks and Ashford I think.
A minor delay?! This is the Brighton mainline; it should be at least 1 hour delayed! ;)
Even that's too soft! Don't you mean cancelled :P Or maybe a week late!
Haha true!
Yeah lol I go on that train every day! Not that good of service.
One thing missing in TS with the 3rd rail electric trains is the bright arcing that you get as contact with the 3rd rail is broken and remade.
Agreed, with even more arcing in the rain. Would look very cool!
Purely because the third rail is cosmetic in the game, only track rules matter.
That's quite interesting. A Gatwick Express train that does not stop at Gatwick Aiport.
I liked the Apology for 'Severe Lag We Might Encounter', any excuse for a late running train ;) Hope it isn't the wrong type of Lag! Great video as always, the cab sounds are very authentic and makes a lot of difference to the experience.

Another first rate video, Peter, very easy to see on a laptop. Your local knowledge shone through brightly.
Thanks Roger, glad you enjoyed this video and it was clear for you to see. As I really know this route I decided to try and let that come through in the commentary :)

Wonderful video this is actually one of my favourite routes
Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video. I agree with you on that! :)
Another enjoyable video for me, i intend to try them all when time allows.
Brilliant instruction, but just one minor thing... Yet again excellent video. Well done!
Thanks Chris :)
once again PTG. Brilliant. keep it up!
Thank you, Michael :)
Brilliant work as always, PTG!
Thanks! :)
Excellent Job!
Thank you! :)
I can't believe that the community is doing the work of creating networks out of the available DLC that DTG ought to have been setting as their goal from the start.
Danny who merged London-Brighton and South London Network is a DTG Employee.
BanditsVCops I assume he's still doing it on his own time though and that it gets no official support.
Because the game isn't designed for large routes with lots of scenery - see performance issues on the recently released JT western mainlines (at launch - the patches have significantly improved performance) and the fact a Bedford to Brighton run on Danny's merged routes can and will crash because of the TS2016 memory limit

+PTGRail well it's on it's way :) Just needs some bloody scenery now!
Hey, +PTGRail , have you got a custom URL for your UA-cam channel yet, as once you have surpassed 500 subscribers, you have the option to do so.
I think so. ua-cam.com/users/ptgrail will take people to my channel.
Good video mate, out of interest, could you tell me what carriage the other internal passenger view is in, I.E what coach, driving vehicle or same as the head of window view, would love to know, cheers Nathan
Everything you need for watching a ptgrail video:Cup of tea/ coffee 🍵Biscuit🍪 or cake🍰And lastly a computer monitor :)
2413, did the EP Brake MCB keep tripping in the London End cab? :P
Nick Higgins Did u report it? No I was relieved Bournemouth man I think. Blimey Joe control are gonna have a fit when they hear about this
Nick Higgins the video from which that reference is from is quite old.
I know but I just couldn't help saying it!
Nick Higgins why do they say control in such a weird way?
When will you make more vids
for a Gatwick express train strangely it doesn't stop at Gatwick but great video keep up the good work
It's classed as a Southern service the 07:32, but uses Express stock.
Indeed, as BanditsVCops said, this is a Southern service but it's operated using Class 442s. Hence the skipping of Gatwick Airport.
Oh
Anyone who wants to see a totally different view of the first part of this route (from the perspective of a totally different sim) ought to check this out.
www.simsig.co.uk/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=usertrack:areainfo:brighton
I quite enjoy SimSig. It made a brief appearance in my UK signalling guide video :)
Do either of you know what programme is best to use SimSig alongside for a Windows 7 laptop?
I love the cab of that train
I agree, it's really unique and has that classic BR feel :)
I also like how the Windows curve round
When will you do the South Western service from Bournemouth to Waterloo??
Do you have a working link to the joint South London to Brighton route on Steam ?
Sure, here you go :)
steamcommunity.com/workshop/browse/?appid=24010&searchtext=south+london+to+brighton&childpublishedfileid=0&browsesort=textsearch§ion=home
Hey, can you link me to a great lb scenario? Since the ts workshop is messed up I didn't find any high AI scenarios during morning/evening rush hour.. Thanks!
Hey is there any chance you could do a video with the Class 801? It's a free train that comes with the base game I believe.
I'll consider it but I'm not a big fan of driving the Class 801. :)
+PTGRail Heh, fair enough. I personally think it accelerates ridiculously fast
RazordraacGaming If you think that's bad, try the Class 466 :p
Оn the wеb nоt surе thе rеаsоn уоur teсhniquе dоеsn't wоrk. Аlthоugh Im definitelу hаррy.... I discovеred lеgаl аpрpррliсatiоn oon this sitе. twitter.com/7be723548ce0ce931/status/779267129564540929 Тrаin Simulatоr 2016 Rоutе Lеаrning Brightоn tо Lоndоn Bridgе Clаss 442
How do you change the destination?
+ptgrail I think it would be a good idea to incorporate facecam into a few videos, to see what it is like.
Haha, I'm not sure about that. I think the trains look better than my face ;) lol
+PTGRail :D

The Gatwick Express where the Express doesnt even stop at Gatwick Airport
What about London kings cross to Stevenage via Welyn garden city
Need that 170 on tsw!!
Great video could you do a class 158 4 coaches a York to Leeds via Harrogate
Thanks :) Unfortunately that route doesn't currently exist in Train Simulator.
South London to Brighton & Chatham :P
Lovely drive! do you take suggestions?
Thanks! I do indeed take suggestions and will happily make a video based on a suggestion if that route or train is available in the game :)
+PTGRail cool would you do South West Trains 450 any destination or 175 any destination I don't mind Thanks :)
How come when you depart a station, the red lights on the dash go off, and when you stop, they go on?
It's the DRA switch which drivers use at station in case of a red signal etc.
I'd believe it's and interlock which switches on and off when the train hits a certain speed and therefore acts most likely as a safety device for door operation, I could be wrong
How do you change the mode from driver only operated to guard?
AP Class 442 Sound Pack has to been installed first, but it's CTRL+R.
+BanditsVCops ok thank you 😀
Where is Gatwick?
This service was not scheduled to call at Gatwick, as per the real timetable.
Or a Peterborough to Cambridge class 321 abellio greater anglia via march
Unfortunately that route doesn't currently exist, and in real life it's not electrified either.
how do program ai trains to stop and stay or have delays while at stations?
Just program them to leave later.
Can you do a video with the Caledonian sleeper from Glasgow the London Euston?
I don't think Euston is currently in the game.
+BanditsVCops ok well Glasgow to Carlisle.
Probably include Carlisle to Preston, you've also got the West Highland Mainline and the Edinburgh to Dundee route's too.

I do hope they bring out the Ashford int - Brighton route as not only does it go to the station literally down the road from me but it also goes along side the sea front which I think is quite nice.
I want this more than any other route :p
1:10:55 tallest building in the european union best joke ever lol

Frequent Thameslink trains run along the route to London Bridge and beyond towards Bedford and I believe there are new links to Cambridge and Peterborough as well as Sevenoaks and Ashford I think.
why did Train Simulator make the old London Bridge station and not the new one??......
Because this line came out in 2012, a long time ago.
+Frowny13 (Frowny Taboban) no it didn't....
Yes it did.
+Frowny13 (Frowny Taboban) the station didn't come out in 2012
Well then someone tell me what is going on.
What year is this scenario set?
do you want to be a train driver in reality?
are you a train conductor in real life you sound like one
Nice
The fan looks useless
I agree. A bit like one of those pocket fans lol :p
You go on the Brighton mainline... You use the GATWICK EXPRESS (Class 442) BUT YOU DO NOT STOP AT GATWICK I GOT TRIGGERED!!!!!!!!
Haha! This was a Gatwick Express unit operating a Southern service, as it was timetabled to do.
interesting
