As of 2020, the Class 171s no longer go to Brighton. This is likely due to the fact that anyone who went on the 2 car train never wanted to go to Ashford and by around Polegate/Berwick nearly everyone would have gone. They now operate between Eastbourne and Ashford and are apparently going to be totally withdrawn from service, well at least on Southern. They are expected to be bought out by another operator. Also the 319s no longer go to Brighton as Thameslink sold them and have replaced them with class 700s.
Very nice and very informative video for one of the greatest Train Simulator routes to date. I have been driving up and down this route for days now in many, many scenarios, and to now get the back story of it all, awesome!! Definitely your best work so far, and as as a small side effect, we now of course expect this type of commitment and quality out of every video from you in the future. No pressure though. ;)
Great video! Trains off the West Croydon branch, which are delayed, will cancel Intermediate stops between Selhurst and Clapham Junction, these trains sometimes stop on the fast line platforms at Selhurst, I was on one yesterday that did.
One brilliant documentary Pete and well worth the wait. I think this is well up there with professional documentaries if not better! Haven't watched all of it yet, but it's thoroughly enjoyable so far. Will continue watching now ;)
Any plans to make a another Route Guide episode which will be 4 parts of the East Coast Main Line including part 1 with DTG's ECML South (London to Peterborough), part 2 would be CreativeRail's York to Peterborough, part 3 would be DPSimulation's ECMLNE (York to Newcastle) and the final part would be Just Trains' Newcastle to Edinburgh. I'm looking forward for your project, thanks.
Thanks, Lee. I'm glad that you loved this video. At times making it can be slightly stressful, but the sense of achievement once it was completed made it all worth it! :)
On the original Brighton Mainline route for TS do the lesser known stations actually have platforms in the game? I mean in areas where there is minimal scenery (Hove, Crawley, Reigate, Plumpton, Sanderstead, Riddlesdown)
Great Video Ptg!!!! One couldn't even imagine it better! So here is the thing: Berlin Leipzig is coming to steam and it is a long route ( ~160km ). And it would be great, if you could make a video. If you plan on doing a video, here are a few things you need to know about the route: 1. The route runs from the 4. largest station in berlin, via the biggest one and the beautiful 'town' of Lutherstadt Wittenberg ( which is the place where protistantism was born ) and the heavy industrialised town of Bitterfeld into Leipzig Hbf, the biggest station in Germany by square kilometers. 2. The route has something called "Hektometertafeln" which are placed on all German routes ( I only think on some TS routes they are missing ). They indicate, where you are on the route and where stations are. So if you learn driving on this route without a HUD, instead of landmarks, use these board. They are usually placed every 200m. The upper number is for Kilometers and the lower number is for meters.
3. There are all kinds of services on the route. Regios, Intercities, ICEs and Freight trains. 3.1: When it comes to Regios, there are all kinds of services on this route. Here are a few important ones. (I only say where they run on the route) RE3: The RE 3 runs from Berlin Gesundbrunnen to Lutherstadt Wittenberg or Jüterbog (where it would leave the main route towards the east). It consists of a br 112 (which can be bought on the Virtual Railroads online shop) and 5 Dostos. RE9: The RE 9 runs from Berlin Hbf to the Airport ( which still isn't open in real life. ). Since this doesn't exist irl, one can only speculate. But it would probably be a TALENT 2 train consisting of 5 cars. RE4: The RE 4 runs from Berlin Hbf to Ludwigsfelde. It consists of 4 car KISS trains, which don't exist in TS. RB80: The RB 80 runs from Jüterbog to Bitterfeld, where it would diverge of to Halle(Saale) Hbf. It consists of a br 112 with 3 Dostos. S2: The S2 runs from Bitterfeld or Delitsch to Leipzig Hbf low
+Siemens 407 S2 (still): It consists of a 5 car TALENT 2 in the S-Bahn Mitteldeutschland livery. S25: The S25 runs from Teltow Stadt to Berlin Potsdamer Platz (S-Bahn). It consists of 4 or 6 car Br 481/482 trains, which can be bought on the Berlin Trains website (there is another model in work by the creators of the route). For the ICEs there is only one important service: The ICE from Berlin to Munich (to Leipzig on this route). It consists of one or two Br 411 ICE-T trains For the ICs there is also one important service, the Berlin to Leipzig service starting at Berlin Gesundbrunnen. It is formed of a Br 101 + 8 IC coaches and a DVT. Freight can be completely random, but there are a few important factors: No freight goes past Großbeeren, and Leipzig Mockau.
+Siemens 407 4. No IC or ICE stops at Bitterfeld! 5. If you want a really good Br 101, buy the one from the Virtual Railroads shop! (Same goes for the Br 112) 6. Enjoy the route :) Thanks for reading all of it. I hope it helps you a bit on knowing the route. - Siemens
Thanks for all of the information on this route! I finally got a copy of it yesterday, so certainly intend to make a video on it. Do you have any recommendations for good scenarios for the route? :)
+PTGRail The absolute best scenarios for the route can be bought on the versystem shop. An amazing IC scenario is called "IC2389". You drive an evening IC service either with a slightly ubgraded 101, A perfect 101 by Virtual Railroads ( which I totally recormmend ), a Taurus by HRQ (please dont), a perfect Br 120 by Virtual Railroads and the Br 120 by DTG. Another cool scenario (which I sadly do not own :( ) is called the RE 3345 (or something) to Schwedt (Oder) which runs between Lutherstadt Wittenberg and Berlin Gesundbrunnen. You can either choose a Br 112 with Dostos (which is the realistic and best way) or an ubgraded Br442. The ubgraded Talent 2 can be dowloaded on their Website and it comes with another scenario (for Berlin-Wittenberg). There is also a freight scenario for Berlin-Leipzig route called GZ..... something. I dont know much about that one. So you decide! I would say you take the DTG Br 120 and IC, BUT you wouldnt make the german community happy. -Siemens407
Only thing I will say is at New Cross Gate you said that the East London line was originally part of the overground, instead of the underground and then converted to Overground between 2007 and 2010
Thank you! It certainly took an awful lot of effort to put this together. I do plan to make more in the future as and when I have the time. This was very time consuming to make. :)
Oh nuts I must have. Thanks for letting me know I'll go and have a look at it tomorrow. Thanks for letting me know. And I really do love your episodes.
Hey, I'm quite new to your videos. They're very interesting. I was wondering how you route learn yourself. Do you play the scenario beforehand and practice all speed changes and other route objectives or something different?
Hi there. Thanks for the comment. Glad you find these videos interesting. I drive the scenario several times. The first time with the HUD on, and I make notes of the various landmarks and distances. Then I practice without the HUD using just my notes. And from there, I can usually drive successfully on the 3rd or 4th attempt. I don't know how long I remember them all for though afterwards, as you need to keep practising to keep your route knowledge up! I can do the Brighton Main Line without the HUD any time as I know the route so well in real life too. :)
great vid. I think i may have asked this before but could you do a route learning vid on the 3 Country Corner Route from Just Trains (On Steam) and also the JT Railjet Advanced from JT as i have the Railjet and it is a really good package as the locomative included can be used with the Free DLC from the Railworks Austria page (The website will be in German).
Hi again could you possibly do a Virgin class 390 skin installation video and I already know that you have done one for the tube class 66 but I have done everything you told me to do but the skin just isn't there in the scenario editor and I really have a problem installing this reskin !!!! :( Please !! P.S Your vids are the best on UA-cam !!!!!!!!!!! :)
I would love to if I could! the East Coastway route is my local line as I live in Bexhill, but unfortunately that route doesn't yet exist within Train Simulator. Rest assured that if it's made, I will be very quick to make a video on it :)
That's a great idea, and one that I am planning to do in the near future. Possibly on the joined up route so I can take the S-Bahn onto the Garmisch add on too :)
They are part of the electrification system on the route. As the route is electrified using the 3rd rail system, that rail supplies power to trains via a contact shoe at 750 volts DC.
Hi Pete. Dont know if anyone has asked before but i was wondering what the specifications of your computer are as i am upgrading my pc next month and wondering what the best setup would be?? Many thanks
00MentoFan Got it now. Apologies for not getting it straight away. If I was following in their footsteps, surely I should have cancelled the video altogether? :p
I have updated Facebook to reflect that I've been too busy to find much time to dedicate to the channel recently, but I am hoping to record a new video very soon :)
This Information should help for when the Brighton Mainline come out for Rush Hour this summer
As of 2020, the Class 171s no longer go to Brighton.

Wow - this is incredible. So much attention to detail, research and work clearly went into it. Extremely professional. Keep up the great work!
Thanks, Adam. I really appreciate it :)
Excellent video I thoroughly enjoyed it :)
Thanks, Qwerty! Glad to hear that you enjoyed this video. I'd make more of these if they didn't take so much effort to put together! :)

Great video! Trains off the West Croydon branch, which are delayed, will cancel Intermediate stops between Selhurst and Clapham Junction, these trains sometimes stop on the fast line platforms at Selhurst, I was on one yesterday that did.
A herculean effort Peter and a brilliant result. Many thanks.
Thanks, Roger. I'm glad that you enjoyed the result :)
An excellent addition to the route learning collection. Love this theme of video. Keep up the great work. :)
One brilliant documentary Pete and well worth the wait. I think this is well up

I've considered doing this, and will see if I can in the future. :)
Nice job, Pete. Clearly a LOT of work went into this..
Thanks, Eric. It really did take a lot to put this together!
Well researched documentary and excellent video clips - thanks for the effort and keep up the good work!
Another amazing, informative video. Cheers.
Thanks, Alan. Glad you enjoyed this video :)
my local route and didn't know all this information exept now thank you
Great video, very interesting. I would like to see this for other routes like the WCML (whichever one you want to do).
I will certainly consider doing one of these on the WCML or ECML at some point in the future :)
Thank you very much for putting the effort in to make such an interesting video, love your channel :)
Thanks, Joe. I really appreciate it :)
Really enjoyed the video, great presentation with a variety of rolling stock and a hive of information, really well done!
Thanks! This video was incredibly challenging to research and put together. I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed it :)
This is one of my favorite train sim routes :)
Three of my four brothers started their working lives in the signal box at Victoria Station.
Keep doing more of these please. Watched your other ones. Keep it up
Also are there any more Weardale and Teesdale route learning videos? I'm very keen to watching more of those
There are indeed. I think I've done three or four of them now :)
That is fantastic Peter , Thank You . I really Loved That . I hope you enjoyed making it. ?
Thanks, Lee. I'm glad that you loved this video. At times making it can be slightly stressful, but the sense of achievement once it was completed made it all worth it! :)
Wow love the vid so much information that I didn't know please keep doing these videos loving them

Is London Bridge station in this route "Train Simulator: London to Brighton Route Add-On?"
Well this is about as detailed as it could get. Very nice work indeed. Do you take requests?
Thanks! I certainly take requests into consideration :)
Hey PTG rail great video yet again. In TS16 in the scenario builder please could you do a tutorial on how to change the trains for a scenario?
Only thing I will say is at New Cross Gate you said that the East London line was originally part of the overground, instead of the underground and then converted to Overground between 2007 and 2010
I know, that was a slip of the tongue. Not sure why I said overground when I meant underground. Nor how I missed it when editing lol :p
This is pure hard work! I liked it - are you going to make more?
Thank you! It certainly took an awful lot of effort to put this together. I do plan to make more in the future as and when I have the time. This was very time consuming to make. :)
Mr PTGrail, regarding the HSTs you drive, where did you get the different sounds and cab designs from?
I purchased the Valenta and MTU sound packs from Armstrong Powerhouse. :)
PTGRail Ah, thanks very much for the information.
Amazing documentary :)
Thanks! :)
Dat smooooth intro ;)
I tried my best :p
Did you plan to say "unsocksesful" at "Hassocks"?
Is there any prospect of a GWR Route Guide? From Paddington to Paignton?
I don't think I can drive that far at present, but possibly can in the near future between Paddington and Plymouth :)
Brilliant episode again buddy. could I ask if you could possibly do a Liverpool run in an up and coming episode. Brilliant work again GG. ☺☺☺
Thanks, Jay. I recently did a Liverpool to Manchester run, not sure if you've seen it?
Oh nuts I must have. Thanks for letting me know I'll go and have a look at it tomorrow. Thanks for letting me know. And I really do love your episodes.
lol, uploaded at 00:23am in the uk
have u done any videos with a class 380 at all?
Yes, I've done three videos in the Class 380 :)
I thought the class 319 doesn’t have 3rd rail. (0:55)
Jakob Stegmann It is a dual voltage unit
Hey, I'm quite new to your videos. They're very interesting. I was wondering how you route learn yourself. Do you play the scenario beforehand and practice all speed changes and other route objectives or something different?

PTGRail Yeah I'm just an average Train Sim player that uses the HUD lol. Keep up the good work :)
May is ask. Is the AI trains enhanced (Armstrong powerhouse) or just normal?. Great video though!
This was an amazing video. Are their any plans for a 10,000 Subscriber Special?
Thank you! I certainly will do such a think once I hit 10k subscribers :)
Also their was a class 377 that derailed in lovers walk depot
I'm considering doing a video on the Three Country Corner route, certainly. I've got the Steam version already. :)
I am guessing it will be in several parts as the route is divided into parts
or route sections
Hi again could you possibly do a Virgin class 390 skin installation video and I already know that you have done one for the tube class 66 but I have done everything you told me to do but the skin just isn't there in the scenario editor and I really have a problem installing this reskin !!!! :( Please !! Can you do another one of Southern Railway from Wivlesfield to Eastbourne, Ore, Hastings, Ashford International and Brighton and Southampton ? thanks
I would love to if I could! the East Coastway route is my local line as I live in Bexhill, but unfortunately that route doesn't yet exist within Train Simulator. Rest assured that if it's made, I will be very quick to make a video on it :)
Do you think you can do a route learning guide of the Munich - Rosenhiem route for the S-Bahn section?
That's a great idea, and one that I am planning to do in the near future. Possibly on the joined up route so I can take the S-Bahn onto the Garmisch add on too :)
11:48 What are all these side rails for especially in station/platform areas.
They are part of the electrification system on the route. As the route is electrified using the 3rd rail system, that rail supplies power to trains via a contact shoe at 750 volts DC.
What's the next route guide you are working on?
I'm not sure yet. These are such big videos to put together, and they're extremely time consuming. We'll have to see what happens :)
Ok thank you
At south croydon, most of the entries are school boys...
Amazing
57:23
You mean underground, right?
I did! I can't believe I missed that. I've noticed a couple of words I got wrong in the commentary since I uploaded the video lol XD
Would you ever do a route guide on the Great Eastern Mainline?
I will consider it, but would much prefer it if we had the whole GEML in Train Simulator first.
+PTGRail Do you still have some form of a copy of MSTS? :hint hint wink wink:
Can you do the chiltern mainline :-)
I will do if it's made for TS. Unfortunately, it's not currently simulated within the game.
Advanced Blozzy and hats too long
Nice video!!
its old route
LBSCR Has a good Mainline Stations
Hi Pete. Dont know if anyone has asked before but i was wondering what the specifications of your computer are as i am upgrading my pc next month and wondering what the best setup would be?? Many thanks
Hi Luke.
I'm currently using an Intel Core i7 4790k 4ghz processor with 16gb DDR3 1833 RAM and an Nvidia GTX 980 4gb graphics card :)
I live near selhurst station
You did what you siad you would on Matt's livestream then?
I certainly did. It just took a bit longer than I planned! :)
Fair enough!
I want to get this route
hi im just wondering if you have to pay for all the routes and trains or do you have to pay for all of them on ts 2016
Pay for them individually. They come in packs
when is your next instalment coming out been waiting a very long time for it lol
It's online now :)
Great video! Should've delayed the video a bit.
What do you mean by delaying the video a bit? :)
PTGRail It was a joke on Southern Rail.
00MentoFan Got it now. Apologies for not getting it straight away. If I was following in their footsteps, surely I should have cancelled the video altogether? :p
PTGRail XD
not being rude but where is the uploads man?? I love these. vids
I have updated Facebook to reflect that I've been too busy to find much time to dedicate to the channel recently, but I am hoping to record a new video very soon :)
