This really touched my heart. I love what he said at the end "Build whats in your heart, dont listen to everybody else, bulid what you want."
They need to make more xb videos
hell yea. i have an 06 xb still and back then did bosozuko style and ppl had so much hate towards it. then i went on winning awards and the trend slowly catched on when the culture can about. Now ppl ask if im the guy with the long pipes lol
Reminded me of Cody Maverick
Josh helped renovate our cabinets and countertops a few years ago. I remember talking about cars with him and he showed me his Scion. Very cool and unique!
josh helped me get rid of the termites at our place last year and he came up in his scion. it was very cool!
That's one of the most 2000s' paintjob i've seen in a long while
It’s the most 2000’s paint job because he built it back in the 2000’s
Dope episode!
Still looks cool to this day
This is one of the better things that's come out of Donut in a while. You guys killed it.
Views and viewer retention says otherwise…. 👀
@@Holt0216 how do you see viewer retention?
@@Holt0216 correlation≠causation
I agree man, I really liked this video and legit thought about the purchase.
You don’t know about HiLow 4?
Tbh, this feels like an old-school bumper to bumper, and I'm here for it. Donut, don't listen to the haters. y'all are doing work, and it shows. Tristan, you're doing a great job.
Sure seems like they actually heard the valid criticism from true fans and made some quick decisions about content direction and the role they play in the car UA-cam culture. They are putting out stuff lately that is really top-notch and the “haters” have pretty much been silenced.
Pretty sad that it took 3 of the strongest presenters leaving for them to realise what people want though. I agree, Tristan seems like a cool guy and this vid was very well done
Agreed. I for one love a good heartfelt story about a person and their car.
dare i say, better than b2b since its about someones deep story with a car instead of just about the car
Who has anything bad to say about Donut?!
Really happy Josh’s XB story got told! He’s a very nice and generous person. Can’t wait to see what he does with the Fleetwood!!
This was technically a 15 minute ad for this car and I'm all for it. I love the story. Getting to grow up with that era of cars, it's kinda cool to see it preserved. It's almost like a "where are they now?" Love it!
Hit me in the heart, you can see how much this guy cares about this build and how much love he's put into it. Echoing what other folks are saying, this is a solid video and solid story, goes back to more oldskool Donut. The kinda stuff we want to see. Solid job Tristan and crew, blending the wow factor of Wacky Whips with the heartfelt storytelling of the people behind the builds. Can't wait to see where Tristan goes with Donut, he's rising up!
This is the type of content
Car enthusiziest been looking for.
"Random rabbit hole with a lot of passion!"
This was a masterclass of story telling, editing and pace. I hope Josh gets 2x-3x what he has it listed for. Dude deserves it and I’m glad we got to hear his story and the story of the apparatus.
The Scion community in Southern California was soooooo good. Man, you had to be there. So much camraderie, huge support from Scion Corp, lots of cool events and meets... Literally what got me into the car scene.
I've legit been working on turning my wife's xD into a project car after we got her a Kicks but sadly nowhere near as many fun parts as the xB has.
Hell yeah dude
Idk about the aesthetics but mechanically most of the xp90 yaris parts should work for with at most a little modification.
Bro brought it back to the essence in the end and blindsided us all with the emotion! Tristan killed it with this one. Love to see the growth.
This is amazing. i love this new segment! Tristan fitting into the team like a glove
He mentioned divorce. Kids. Home. Food. Man I know those memories and everything to do with that car hit him hard. Mad respects
It's taken me a while to connect with Tristan as a presenter. But this may be it.
I also appreciated seeing this big dude get emotional and have him be okay showing that it's okay to care; it's okay to be sad; it's okay to get emotional and nostalgic over the end of an era. Much respect.
Agree.
The look on dudes face when he said glizzies was hilarious
I know this video didn’t perform well but PLEASE continue this series, this video was AWESOME!
Nah this NEEDS to be an actual series
13:07 Tristan’s kindness showed when he gave Josh the space to cry-an act of true care and understanding
This is the best video I've seen donut make in a while know, even topping pre/post covid donut, Tristan is very authentic and connected beautifully with Josh. He instantly became one of my favorite hosts on YT and I really hope they continue this as a series.
Now this, this is a Donut video… more of this please.
kinda like how Vin Wiki got so big, the car is worth thousands, the story behind it is worth millions, awesome episode !
A Tristan video not full of hating? Told you he'd find his way! love to see it
For real ❤
Nah it's just cause of the story
No, I hate him
I remember this dude back in the day.
I had pictures of the box on stage after the paint job.
I never knew why i lost contact with him or why he sold his car.
I was in the xB community and not part of the mini trucks.
I lost my xB (SWATZAUTOMAN, ICEBOX,SWARTZMAFIA) about 9 years ago because of a bad mental collapse.
It cost me my hobbies and employment.
Since then I've found out im autistic and wasn't handling life well.
Last I knew, my old car was in Kansas city Missouri.
After sitting on the couch for a few years just staring at the walls, I got an ebike and put 4k miles on the local bike trails.
Progress, not perfection. Keep up the good fight!
I should probably start working on getting a diagnosis then, I'm pretty sure being undiagnosed is what cost me my high-school diploma and now is making it harder than pulling teeth to get my GED. I feel like I'm on a course for the same kind of life events but that I'm too busy or too drained to steer myself off that path. Any words of advice?
@zenkoz3158
I have
I've been in consistent weekly counseling for about 3 years now.
I'm also late 40s
It is hard to give any advice. mental health stuff is super individual and should be taken seriously.
It's been a rough road for me for sure, but I keep pushing, only focusing on my well-being and what works for me.
I found some additional help in watching UA-cam vids of other with similar issues as mine and how they cope with life.
@@AdventureswithB.O.B. Sorry my reply was worded incorrectly. My brain skipped right over the "I" that was meant to be at the beginning. I was trying to say I should probably get a diagnosis, not to imply you should.
That hug in the end though, yes we're men but we have emotions too. Love yall for this video, best one donut has done yet.
Bro, Tristan is like a whole energy of donuts evolution
You know if donut keeps this up.. They'll be alright. It's all good be good
I would definitely do this, DGAF. It's like a Hotwheel dream
hotwheels for sure. that was the 1st word that popped into my mind when i saw the car.
Dude, if I had the 10k I would snatch that up in a hearbeat! It looks like something you'd see in a Smashmouth video from 2004 and I'm all for it! You can tell Josh was giving that advice at the end from his heart, and that he truly made a whip that made him happy regardless of what anyone else might have had to say. Hate that he has to let it go, but I understand wanting to end an era so you can begin a new one. Wish him all the best!
Also just wanna say that I really enjoy this format! Telling stories of unique cars and the people that built them!
Donut gets better and better. And Tristan is a worthy addition to the team.
As a 2005 xB owner I was stoked when you got the FR-S and to see this gem of a box featured I love it. I've seen this car many times over the years online in the various Scion communities. Such a great build.
A new Donut video the absolute second I get to work? Yes please.
@@Covert278 Get back to work you can check UA-cam on your own time.
Lol I saw you at bigtime
Lol where do all yall commenter's work when yall are watching Donut on the job lol
@@josiahamaze I work at my family business so it's not corporate in the slightest. I can fuck around on youtube before I get my shit together.
@josiahamaze At the Trap ..
This is guy is the epitome of a genre of car culture that’s crazy and I grew up seeing in magazines.
This guy is awesome personified.
As a man that was there in those days and damn those were the days THIS BROUGHT A TEAR TO THIS OLD MANS EYES....THANK YOU YOUNG BUCK THANK YOU...
This was a sick video, kudos to Tristan and Donut for this banger.
I remember when Scion was coming up, we got a tC because it was such a great car for the price. Toyota sent us promotional material, and I remember seeing this car in the magazine for owners of a Scion and what possibilities you could do with your new Scion. This thing was so wild then and it's still pretty damn wild now. Great seeing this car getting some props.
That's the coolest video I've seen in this channel in a while. Amazing story, thanks Donut for showing this thing to the world!
My vocational school had a Geo Tracker done up like this. Love seeing things like this at carshows
I love this "whacky whips" show. Hope they do this every few months
This could be a good new series for Donut. 13:10 I was 😢
Duuuuude this video hit me so damn hard. I’m in tears. I miss my s13 so much.
A Donut video really made me cry, this was awesome.
Honestly I rolled my eyes a bit at the introduction of another segment, but this was one of the better videos I've seen in a while. It seemed genuine. Great job 👏
This is why I love the addition of Tristen. This is such a cool and personal story. Keep it up!
This was a banger vid ngl, welcome back peak donut
Peek**
I'm getting mad Crazy Taxi vibes from this car and I love Josh for it. What a legend.
What a fucking rollercoaster this video is. So well produced, insane
This episode hit me right in the feels. 😭
Please please keep this series and keep it story centric. This is what UA-cam is here for, thank you donut
More of this, please. I watch car channels to experience the homegrown, weird, personal builds.
Also why is Tristan a Pikman
Stories like this continue to confirm that there's a heart and soul to car enthusiasts. I mean, this is a Scion xB that this guy is so attached to...not exactly a rock star of a car, but he's tearing up thinking about this thing. It's not the car...it's the love, the connection, the humanity that goes into something that makes it special.
I like this dude. I think this is the beginning of a beautiful "hey guys this is why i left donut" video down the road
That’s incredible that the car was sold, disassembled, but then restored by someone completely different. Kindred car spirits
Love this! 3 xB in my driveway. This thing has been for sale a few times in the last few years.
The Gran Turismo-Style UI SFX with those graphics is chefs kiss 🔥 shout out to the editors fr fr
As a toaster fan, I never thought I'd see a dope xB on Donut. With BigTime and Speed, its like a new golden age along with Tristan and Jimmy stepping up. Chefs kiss
just pay the guy $10g for his time for the story and let him keep it.
Absolutely love this first episode. I like how much more intimate it is with the owner and learning about the story, instead of just being like “here’s a persons car and we’re gonna drive it”
Looks miles cooler than every other car with the same bolt on fenders
Genuinely love this thing. Dude has the right attitude. I wish more people were this creative and fearless.
My 2005 xB was my favorite car I've ever owned (I havent owned many but I still loved it so much)
Guys, this video is the type of content that represents what Donut means to me. From the older era, car community being for everyone with all the weirdness and kinks that come with it.
Also huge props to Tristan. Dude is incredibly charismatic. It's so palpable how into this car and its' story he is. No weird judgement, just appreciation for the time & effort that went into it.
Great content!❤
I’m digging wacky whips so much ngl
This must be one of the best Donut episodes, in a long time, well done!
Can we do a 335i? GOATED project car
As a driver of a cherished e93 335i… I whole heartedly agree!
Guys, this is one of the most relatable, heartwarming, most wholesome things y’all have ever produced.
Well done! Keep it up! Make more shit like this!
Not gonna lie. Was super unsure about Tristan in the first couple videos. Generational gap honestly. But I'm digging the new stuff he's bringing to the channel. Or at least being the face of it.
Thats a nice price in 05 too ... today thats a 35k scion xb
😎😎 I think Tristan is Super Cool and this dude Josh is for sure OG Rad !!! Pretty cool video!!!
I really like these journalistic style investigation and learning videos. Like sure I like watching mustang go fast, but these style of videos are what got me subscribed, and I'm glad to see that even in our lack of OG hosts, we can still have someone filling in. I also really like this guy
i have one and um no i also find it cool. you guys should do a video about the customize van community
Really loved this. Honestly, I'm not what you'd call a "car guy" by traditional standards. Aviation is my passion. I work on jet parts for a living, but part of what started to get me into this sort of thing is working with your hands, and the fact that I love all the wacky cool stuff like this. As long as your passionate and doing your own thing, it's all good. Tristan is a real G for doing this. Mad ups.
ngl i would do the same but keep the roof cuz SEA rains alot
Please continue this series and make more vids like this! This has to be one of the best and most original video ideas I’ve seen from you guys in a while. I love how you told Josh’s story. Tristan’s doing a great job as well.
Show love to the tC, some people make turbo kits and some are nice
Agreed Scion is just known for the xb....but like guys there were other models
I'm around Josh's age. The post F&F and pre-social media era was a crazy time. Our midlife crisis cars are going to be so wild.
Who owns a scion xb here? We have owned 8 in total
All 2nd generations
You had me, the you lost me. 😂🤘
I feel like I’m gonna love this series. Such a heart warming story. Cars are so much more than some metal and wheels.
Is this a new segment??? Seems cool so far
I picked up a 2006.5 Rs3 674# for a flat 1,000. Absolutely zero issues with it, cat back borla exhaust with it. Funniest part is the fact it was owned by an older lady.
Old ladies weren’t always old, met a lady a couple years ago who was in her 70s who drove a 2005 mustang gt tastfully modded. Car looked great, she had bought the car as a birthday gift in 05 because it reminded her of the 68 she drove in her younger days.
@@beefy45 Oh most definitely, Mary loved that car. Her father bought it brand new right off the lot for 17.5k back in 2006 has a list of for all the maintenance she's done. I've just never seen a Scion in general with a cat back borla, I'm not even sure how much it might be worth either 🤣
Now this is the kind of video that Tristan should be in! Tremendous
tristan honestly good, and good at his job. haters must have a different view with there head being up there asses
Tbh, This scion's one of the inspirations to get me to start working on my xB- I'm no where near this beauty, but it's a lovely car, and hopefully it'll find another good owner who will love it as it should.
I would, 100%
bro it hasnt even been 2 minutes
Glad to see that (hopefully) there is more creative direction given to the hosts. At the very least, the vids have been fantastic lately.
5:24 His response is telling. Girls don't look at this car lol. Trust me, they'll walk up to you and let you know if they like your car.
IDK man... mine isn't anywhere near this cool and it's gotta a surprising amount of attention from the ladies.
This was the first video where I thought Tristian was being himself and not some Skibidi Ohio Toilet. Don't act/try, be yourself and your genuine nature comes across with positive intention.
I miss james
Me too
Me too):
Where is he now 😭 I neeeeed him
By far, best video Tristen has done yet. It genuinely was heartwarming.
Donut lost itself
I'm loving Donut Media's direction. We need more episodes like these!
This host sucks not worth remembering his name
Yea I feel you, would rather see Heber. Guy doesn't really grab my attention
Y'all are awesome and that xB was wicked
This was fantastic! It’s great seeing Donut learn from their mistake with focusing on chasing clicks. This is deep, touching, and really showed how and why cars are more than the just parts they are comprised of.
This is the content we need. Keep it going.
First it was miracle whips now we have wacky whips and I'm stoked hiring this dude was a good move by donut, donut comeback?
I remember when the xB 1st came out they had all types of crazy promo cars. The DJ booth one they used to take to hot import nights was wild
Big props to the guy who found it and restored it while it was gone 👍👍👍
theres nothing i'd take pride in more than the worn off paint from where the dog used to sit. that's such a wholesome detail
