MTN Racer are probably the best trail shoes I have worn, in every single sense, and I have worn a nice bunch of different models and brands. Topo is doing a great job in trail shoes. Comfortable and reliable shoes in every ground/weather condition, even in technical paths despite its wide toe box. Nice rocker too.

I've hiked in this shoe. It hurts my feet. After spending much time in his various creations I think of Mr. Topo as a disciplinarian father who sees any endeavor as a moral failure unless it involves pain.

Really good review! Definitely on point. What I’m really impressed with how well these shoes have held up for me. I would say the same for my ultraventures. The MTN Racers are definitely felt stiff threw the mid foot in my opinion. Awesome reliable shoe that I have put some miles on. If I want something a little more snappy and in my mind feel lighter I throw on the ultraventures. Topo is definitely doing some great things and is worth taking a look at.

Great review! My MTN Racers are just what I needed for the trails/terrain in the Colorado Front Range. Only thing I would add is the uppers are not as breathable, but more durable, than the Ultraventures I have. A bit warm in hot weather.

Thanks, JD! Great feedback on the breathability - we haven't had the concerns with overheating here at URC, but the "holes" in this mesh are significantly smaller (ie. almost not there) and we have definitely heard similar feedback from around the country.

I would be curious of your opinion on how the MTN Racer compares to the Altra Lone Peak or Timp. Thanks for this review!!

    • @Frip36

I'm a rookie. Have both the MTN Racer and Altra Lone Peak 4.5. I pronate and the Altra make me pronate even more. Altra has a softer (or at least more squishy) ride. Which is kinda neat. MTN felt more structured, supportive, and better quality. Altra made my feet hurt more over long hikes over rocky paths. MTN was a little better that way. But neither gave great protection (or cushion) from sole pain after long hike.
Addendum: I barely know what I'm talking about.

@@Frip36 same here. Lone peak caused massive pronation for me. Still looking for wide toe box stability trail shoe. Mtn racer is discontinued.

Thanks. Been searching Amazon for 10 minutes wondering why there's no Mountain Racer. (I wish I was kidding).

Well, your first mistake was looking in Amazon. We have them here...:the-ultra-running-company.shoplightspeed.com/search/mtn+racer/
As an aside, we promise to have new reviews out soon. Nathan's hair has been a COVID mess and he was sporting a tragic goatee, so we kept him off UA-cam. It was in everyone's best interest...he looked like a musketeer. 🤷‍♂️

@@TheUltraRunningCompany Ah, ok, cool. I'll buy the MNT Racer at your site now for a lady friend. I do hope your return policy is near Amazon Prime's level of ease.

How does this Top shoe compare with the Tip 2.0? Can you feel the rocks through the sole? Do these run small? Thanks for the in depth review!

I've noticed my feet are dirtier after running in the Ultraventure than some other trail shoes (e.g., HOKA, Topo Terraventure 2). Have you noticed less dirt entering the shoe with the MTN Racer?

Any thoughts on the forefoot flexibility?
Looking forward to Sense 4 Pro, Sense Ride 3, Norvan LD2 and Kiger 6 in 2020.

Hi, have a question, does the shoe have a high arch bump inside? Planning to get this shoe but i have flat feet/arch :D

    • @TheUltraRunningCompany
      @TheUltraRunningCompany  4 роки тому +1

The arch in this shoe did not create a huge impression for us - meaning it didn't protrude to the point we felt impacted by it. While the insole does have a clear contour and raised arch, we suspect it would not get in your way - even with flat feet. Be aware that this shoe does have a narrower heel and wider forefoot (as is the case with most Topos), and as such it will grip right around your instep. That's not good or bad for any specific foot type, just a comment regarding individual preferences. :)
