6:51 - Can I state that this is the first time I have ever seen Bill - and how apt that it should be in the reflection of an E39, in quintessential condition
Love this video. Got to speculate at the beginning on how Bill would drive while filming and shifting. Then he tears it up shifting with the left while keeping the camera straight. Good thing the windows are tinted. Bring us more town cars!
I was about to ask how he was doing it also! Man, I’m impressed with Bill’s driving this stick -shifted car while holding the camera straight! Great job!
I absolutely loved driving the 525i. I sold it for $800 in 2017 right before I moved to Dallas. I constantly think of the car and how it drove and handled. I keep telling myself to buy another one some day particularly this model. The 525 in this video is simply amazing. Great video sir 👍🏾
I had a 1997 E39 Touring 6-cylinder for a few years. Best car I ever had. Like Springsteen said "a fancy foreign car that rides like paradise". Apart from regular servicing, the only things that needed to be changed was the rear bushings at around 130k km, and the thermostat and water pump at around 150k km.
Wrong wheels for that car as it is not a M Sport model(Shadow line trim /M steering wheel ) as a BMW enthusiast (23 total so far) those wheels look great on all older model BMWs ! I did have e39 528i w M sport package ,bought it with 205000 miles and sold it 1 year later to a friend with 215000 miles and he drove it for few more years ,although it was pretty much done at that point as he didnt take care of it ,great car while i owned it,great steering feel, handle great as it should but the gas pedal was very heavy ,only compliant i had about it..the usual BMW problems was already addressed ,why no more videos at the house??? I like those much better vs being at the dealership..just imo..you are very entertaining !
The previous owner of my E39 M Sport bought new wheels due to corrosion here in Virginia. He went aftermarket 18's. I do have a pristine stock 17 spare in the trunk might be worth some $ to pay for replacing cooling system parts
I own an E39 in near mint condition in slate green with a manual transmission. I absolutely love it! Yes those wheels were a factory option. Mine has them.
I had this car for like 2 months for my first car. Only paid 250 for it. It was a 528i with a 5 speed and had 289,000 miles. I really liked it, it had a lot of character. But it had major oil leaks and the engine overheated unfortunately.
02 525i m sport in titanium silver here. Definitely a better car to look at instead of the Mercedes equivalent of the time. Sweet find, someone will be a lucky owner.
I also am a Mercedes guy to the core, I drive a W203. But it's undeniable that BMW was absolutely killing Mercedes in terms of the E39 and E46 vs the W210/early 211 and the early W203's respectively. Interior, driving dynamic, styling. Mercedes wins the reliability battle, though. These E39/46's had bad cooling systems that needed to be replaced often and the VANOs gave lots of owners headaches. Are they worth the headache, though? I think so. I will say, when Mercedes facelifted the 203 and 211, totally different cars in my opinion.
I owned a 97 e39 years ago. Was a pretty good car. And for the time it was def ahead of Mercedes. The 97 Lexus GS was alot better then both in my opinion though
I think it is super interesting and probably smart. There are tons of cheap 2001 BMW or 5-20 year old Mercedes you can buy. Bill is trying to be the best, not the cheapest. Why would his prices be cheap? I am sure he charges a correct price for top quality.
Came to this video because I found a 1 owner 525i in my area with only 40k miles that's been so well taken care. This video has definitely talked me in to wanting it. For anybody that sees this is $5,900 a decent price for these?

No it does not style 5 wheels were never part sport package On 525i on 528i yes. No shadow line trim. Thee39 in video is just bass model .just bbs wheels swap
Haha, classic broke E39 LCD display. But what a beautiful sled this is. I'm torn between a late E46 or E39 as my next car. They're both so good and I've had nothing but great experiences with 2 E46s over the past 10 years.
Not really if it's well maintained. By that mileage the rear suspension should've been replaced as well as the water pump, all of the cooling system. Regular oil changes throughout its life (check the service records). The engine is rock solid and can easily go 300k miles, however the plastic chain guides should be replaced at around 150k-180k.
I love 99% of the e39/e36/e46 BMWs but that 1% is kind of a dealbreaker for me. I am talking about the 5 speed manual gearbox and the reasons I dont like it is because of the spongy and the gear ratios. In most cars 4th speed is 1 to 1 but in the 5 speed manual gearboxes 5th gear is 1 to 1 which makes the car rev faster because of the shorter gears but when you go drive extra urban the fuel economy is kinda bad.
You must be a fucking moron. The auto is 3.46. The M5 is 3.15. The manual 530i is 3.07, making the auto much shorter and the the M5 slightly shorter...
Hard to believe that interior is 18 years old... looks brand new.
