Building the Coronation of Guilliman - Warhammer 40k Diorama

- How hard is it to build a diorama like this? SUPER HARD. Fortunately, I've gone through the pain so you don't have to, hopefully, all the problems and nightmare headaches it gave me will help you to build bigger!
The Coronation of Guilliman is an iconic artwork by Pedro Nunez. Like a chump, I decided to try and build it from Warhammer kits, 3d prints, bits of wire, and other junk I had lying around.
I've finished building it, and am now attempting to paint it, as close to the original artwork as possible. Here is a breakdown of how I built it, it's one of the biggest kitbashes I've made so far, and the one I'm most proud of - if you have any questions about the build, please don't hesitate to ask!
MASSIVE SHOUTOUT TO Grumpykiltpin @michtymike2019 For solving the hardest problem - the statues and the emperor statue, cheers mate, sorry I edited out the shoutout and only just noticed.

@@baharroth_the_cry_of_old_paint can you recreate any TTS scenes with GW products? Like the Fabulous Custodes entering the throne room, laughing Necrons, or Vulkan petting a Catachan barking toad

This is absolutely incredible, it fully deserves to sit at warhammer world's museum
ah thats mega, high praise!

GW really should have released this scene as a limited edition diorama
Still time 🤣 I did try and get the triumvirate boxes to save a bit but the imperium ones were sold out,
i don't care much for armies and playing the game, but they would get my money if they began selling diorama builds!
@@oddbjrnhaugen2742 they do something like that for HH
wow, the madness of this build even surpasses Roman's Last Light, and that's about the highest praise one can give.
Uhhhh thank you, I don't agree but at the same time yes that is the highest praise 😂😂😂🤘🤘🤘💪💪💪
I think even the most talented painter would see this and run away but as a model it is absolutely fantastic, I'd honestly not be surprised if games workshop themselves could find a place for this at warhammer world
😂 yeah it is a challenge, I'm enjoying it though, hopefully be ready before Christmas. That would be amazing
I have zero experience with warhammer but found this build absolutely riveting. Such a fantastic kitbash project!
Ah thanks mate, really glad you enjoyed it ! It's a lot of fun to make and I'm going to be making some ridiculous things next year from it !
An Ultramarine seeing his Primarch reborn, a hobbyist seeing an astonishing diorama - the reaction is the same. AWE.
Ah that's mega. It's one of my favourite lore moments!
It's not everyday that my jaw drops when seeing what videos youtube recommends me. I was like, "There is no way he actually built that." And sure enough, you somehow did it, you absolute madlad

You sent me pics of this over IG. It’s amazing to see you uploading videos. Keep going.
legend thank you!
absolutely fantastic project, very impressed.
Thank you! ☺️🖤💪
Absolutely amazing. And it is very impressive how you kind of muddled your way through the process. Instead of overthinking and perfecting you went step by step. The result is stunning and should be displayed at GD and Warhammer World!
For me perfectionism is the enemy of making anything at all, if I don't start I'll rehearse it forever and never get on with it. Helps that I like to make things I'm not sure how they are going to work so lots of discovery along the way! Thank you for the vote of confidence ! 🤘🤘🤘💪💪💪
Always wish i could find these types of projects when they are early on as i would have happily built you the boxes as i has soooo much wood spare, practically fills a garage and i wont likely ever use it all
Thanks for the offer ! I'm all good at the moment for the next couple of builds but going to do some boxes later in the year, will hit you up if that's okay with you?
Bro you should make your whole channel building massive warhammer dioramas
Thanks mate, that's the plan 😂 once I've done Guilliman I have a trazyn build I've been getting bits for. He'll be sitting on a throne (love thrones) throwing out tesseract cubes which will be expanding into different units from different eras - some lizardmen, some MK1 space marines, some Tyranids, in a mix of scales so it looks like they are expanding. Next year I have plans for a hanging subterranean city build out of the top of a 4 poster bed, the agents of the throne description of the Golden Throne, an Ordinatus gaming table and some others !
There’s not many 45 minute videos my dopamine addled brain can easily sit through but this was riveting. Incredible work
Wild thank you! High praise! It was a challenge piecing together the odd bits of footage and pictures i'd taken along the way to try and make something coherent after spending a couple of years making it off and on. Massive labour of love so made my day to read that !

This is just so good. I'm speechless. The little areas of detail are so wonderful. I love the Jokaero especially! I want to see this thing in person and just stare at it for a few hours. The other piece you teased looked incredible too. Really looking forward to seeing more of your work!
Thanks man. The jokaero is my favourite bit. Will hopefully go on display next year will let everyone know where ! Ah that's my 2022 www.smashbash.org competition entry. Video coming up soon!
Lawrence, I just stumbled upon this video, and I am very impressed by your work. It was great to hear how you powered through the hurdles and challenges and ended up creating such an artistic piece. I recognized some of the same uncertainties that I struggle with when designing, building and painting. I have not worked with or played any of the Warhammer 40k sets or games. But I have been painting 28-32-54mm fantasy figures and building and designing original "game boards/dioramas". Nothing so far as detailed as yours though, so far.
And strangely enough, my newest design is an Elven throne room with guard statues; flaming braziers; poplar wood carved columns of ivy, dragon head, stag head, owl and tree; raised golden dais with etched mapping; large stained glass (painted clear plastic) windows; working doors; throne chairs with ivy and moss; large dragon skull above thrones; a dragon egg in wood crate, etc. I definitely share your love for being creative.
Keep up the great work.
David
Oh that sounds super cool, do you show them off anywhere ? twitter, insta etc? would love to have a look it sounds wild. Thank you for the high praise, I like to keep in all the stuff that doesn't work tbh, and thought process behind it, makes it all make a lot more sense how things fit together, and easier to remember the things that went wrong! Thanks a lot for reaching out!
@@baharroth_the_cry_of_old_paint I have a shop on Etsy of about 19 things currently, but I am still working on adding more. I have thought about posting on Twitter and Pinterest as well. Still trying to figure it all out.

Are you following @imperium_nihilus ? His throne build is sensational! Tbh now he's done it I'd need to do something different. There's a great depiction in some of the agents of the throne novels of all the machinery above and below. Might be a blast ! Just need a gajillion pounds and to finish building my workshop 🤣

"This is wrong. You people are insane. You're a fucking demon. Dad would be furious. Horus would be laughing. Lorgar would be crying tears of joy" -R. Guilliman, Primach of the Ultramarine

This is a totally new and invigorating view of the hobby imo. You, miscast, totally not panicking and others really on to something awesome.

Amazing work, when I saw your photo of the work in progress paint job I originally thought it would be good to add more light but after watching the build video I do agree a strong light from the top is the better way to go and leave the viewer to imagine the detail that lies in shadow.
Ah that's awesome pal thank you. Temptation is always to go all in on the detail but can be so easy to lose the feel of the piece. Not going to illuminate much but will pick out a few reflections !

@@baharroth_the_cry_of_old_paint Keep it up - great work - I look forward to seeing what you produce. I'm enjoying something of a 40k Renaissance with my teenage son, dusting off my old 1st Ed Space Hulk and Space Marine - even (re-)painted some of my first slotta orcs with him this summer. Those mid-late 80s models had so much character (even if the goof factor is quite high). I distinctly remember buying an Oriental Hero range that included such ninja hero gems as Ping, Pong, Honda and Soni - putting racial stereotyping to one side, I do miss that GW seems to have jettisoned much of both the tongue-in-cheek humour and the visceral horror of that early Blanche artwork - OG grim dark. I still love the Hobby, but miss the old 2000AD-esque vibe that used to run through it. BTW, can I recommend another small YT Hobby channel to you - GRG Miniatures - he does some fantastic work with light and colour and is a highly articulate and interesting watch. Have a good weekend.

I had an idea to do the bridge of the Executioner, with Lotara Sarin mutated into the command chair a bit like the engineer in alien, the rest of the crew fused to their stations, and Lotara & Kharns warp ghosts watching over them... one day! hit me up if there's any chaos artwork you'd like to see made, I wasn't that big into them when I was a kid so I don't have many reference images and thank you!
@@baharroth_the_cry_of_old_paint Legend! Thank you for engaging so much with everyone. That already sounds like a superb idea.
@@FilipePiteira cheers pal! I think after gman is finished I'm going to make a big Necron model based on some of the first blanche art but next year I need to build a lot of things ! 😂 More ideas the better !
