  • Why was Yokozuna Kakuryu's retirement event so much more modest than Hakuho's? And what REALLY didn't go to plan? The full story explained here.

@@lipstickzombie4981 Has there been any indication that he will retire early? Because according to mandatory retirement age at 65, current Inosuke's final basho will be the 2024 Aki Basho, so in about 15 months. If he will fulfill this we are going to witness his unintentional shenanigans for another eight tournaments. :)
Once he will retire however, I expect it to not take too long until we finally see another Kimura Shonosuke again (the last one retired in early 2015) since all the current four Sanyaku gyoji are pretty good in my opinion (especially Konosuke, but since he is the last in line, it will be a couple of years until it's his turn).

Im so glad for how the elder stock situation rounded out and Michonoku taking Kakuryu in as coach and heir apparent was an incredibly generous and smart move for the future of sumo! We will see big things from his efforts in making his men stronger rikishi, his techniques were outstanding, and it makes me happy to know they will be passed on and taught to new rikishi as well. Kirishima may well go even higher under his tutelage.

But I am still hoping for more cahnces for Kirishima to actually defeat Terunofuji.
The next basho might be wild!
Three top sekitori as healthy as they might be (Terunofuji, Takakeisho and Kirishima) and three Sekiwake hoping to be promoted! (Hoshoryu 21 wins, Daieisho 22 wins and Wakamotuharu 21 wins)

Maybe, maybe not. It depends on where he wants to have it. If he wants to have a public ceremony on the dohyo at the Kokugikan, then it could be a year or more. Kakuryu retired more that two years ago, in March 2021, and Ikioi, whose ceremony was held the day after, in July 2021. There is still a backlog from COVID, and also these ceremonies take a long time to plan and execute. If he goes for a hotel ceremony, or a Kokugikan ceremony that is open to invited guests only, then it could be sooner, maybe just a few months.
Given his popularity and his status as an ex-Ozeki and Emperor's Cup winner, I expect that he will have a full Kokugikan ceremony. If that's the case, then I would look for something in the beginning of June or August.

Do we think that Kakuryu and Kurdish ima had any idea of tribe abuse scandals that happened in their stable? It’s hard to imagine that they didn’t know what was going on, which makes me super sad.

They don't live at the stable like the lower recruits. There are many hours they don't spend there, not to mention Kakuryu probably has hardly been to the stable since retirement.

It was great to give amateru Sumo some exposure, but the video was rubbish info on Sumo - Like no mention of the pro Sumo or any of that stuff.

It's probably just a coincidence. I imagine that Anand is also a good Mongolian name.

The Mongol Empire went far and wide, at the flip side we have Afghanis and Pakistanis with Khan as surnames and the Mughal empire was founded by a descendant of Genghis Khan.

Also Ariunaa is Hokuseiho's first name based on the official JSA site which isn't too far off from Arjuna, a popular Indian name as well.

I'm a Mongolian and It's just a culture thing. Many Tibetan and Sanskrit names were borrowed in the past 400 years where Buddism were the main religion.
It's still is. But today, we're more atheists who respect Buddhism.
Even tho, you might not be a buddhist, you'd still have Buddhist names. Exactly like those westerners who have Biblical names.
