Because according to mandatory retirement age at 65, current Inosuke's final basho will be the 2024 Aki Basho, so in about 15 months. If he will fulfill this we are going to witness his unintentional shenanigans for another eight tournaments. :) Once he will retire however, I expect it to not take too long until we finally see another Kimura Shonosuke again (the last one retired in early 2015) since all the current four Sanyaku gyoji are pretty good in my opinion (especially Konosuke, but since he is the last in line, it will be a couple of years until it's his turn).

Im so glad for how the elder stock situation rounded out and Michonoku taking Kakuryu in as coach and heir apparent was an incredibly generous and smart move for the future of sumo! We will see big things from his efforts in making his men stronger rikishi, his techniques were outstanding, and it makes me happy to know they will be passed on and taught to new rikishi as well. Kirishima may well go even higher under his tutelage.
I might not comprehend the full scope of things, but why didn't Kakuryu create his own stable or took into another name? Was he already looking into staying at Michinoku?
@@Betortitas89 I believe they are fairly strict on creation of new stables and Michinoku had no clear successor as a smaller stable with few sekitori so there was an opening to fill, but I am not clear on how the whole coaching invite and elder stock transfer agreement worked out. Maybe Chris Sumo or someone with greater understanding of the details will make a video on it. It did seem to work out nicely and seems be a very mutually beneficially power transfer agreement.

I got hooked into sumo by a Chris vid during yokozunas Hakuho Kakaryu, Kisenosato reign. It truly is the end of an age. Kise will always be my fav yokozuna, but Kakaryu never failed to impress. I look forward to a happy rivalry between all three former Yokozuna.
As soon as he got promoted to Ozeki Kirishima was able to defeat the Yokozuna... But liftout shouldn't be something he tries to add to his arsenal! Thanks for the memories Kakuryu, seeing him and Hakuho continuing their rivalry as coaches will be faszinating!
It's a "demo" match. Terunofuji wasn't actually trying to win. It's a opportunity for Kirishima to show what he can do and he oblige. Also Teru isn't going to risk injury going all out.

And a liftout seems to be the fitting end to that kind of 'ceremonial' match, but Terunofuji or Mitakeumi are far more able to perform such a liftout impressively. But I am still hoping for more cahnces for Kirishima to actually defeat Terunofuji. The next basho might be wild! Three top sekitori as healthy as they might be (Terunofuji, Takakeisho and Kirishima) and three Sekiwake hoping to be promoted! (Hoshoryu 21 wins, Daieisho 22 wins and Wakamotuharu 21 wins)

Kakuryu and his infamous pic with rubber ducks at a bath (whether real or fabricated) really does drive his 'not too serious' image to both his fans and haters. If Hakuho's theme in his retirement is extravaganza eleganza Kakuryu's a glorified family reunion, complete with mischievous kids and someone accidentally getting cut. 😆
I really enjoyed that Chris! Kakuryu was my favourite to watch - a very tasty wrestler with huge skill. It's sad to see him retire and hopefully he'll have great success as a coach. And thank you for all your coverage of sumo. We'd never get to see it here in Ireland without you.
Asashoryu was and is a big supporter of hakuho for those speculating otherwise. Recently, asa has defended hakuho publicly when he caused Japanese controversy with his forearm hits and celebrations etc

Thank you for giving us so much detail. I enjoyed seeing Terunofuji allow Kiribayama to beat him. Lol. Kiri's gotta do it for real now. The glitches did not ruin the ceremony. From the various clips I've seen, the love and respect for the 71st yokozuna was obvious. I wish Kakuryu success in correcting the issues in Michinoku beya. With his leadership hopefully he'll be able to guide his rikishi to promotion, as he has done with Kirbayama.
The one rikishi I regret I didn't have the chance to experience is Harumafuji. I saw a few old videos and he was really enjoyable to watch. I hope Kirishima will provide the same type of enjoyment with his very similar style of sumo.

I never understood Kakuryu's brilliance until Harumafuji was forced to retire. I feel that he was underappreciated wrestling in the shadow of the greatest ever and another who was more charismatic.
Kakuryu had the "misfortune" to be fighting during the Hakuho era and seemed somewhat in the background. But I will remember him as a very respectable yokozuna who brought great honor to the sport. I hope Kirishima (I just managed to memorize Kiribayama) can follow in his footsteps.

Sad, definitely, and yet we are watching the next legends in the making (that Day 15 Hoshoryu-Hokutofuji staredown will live rent-free in my head for a while). Sumo's eternal cycle!
Maybe, maybe not. It depends on where he wants to have it. If he wants to have a public ceremony on the dohyo at the Kokugikan, then it could be a year or more. Kakuryu retired more that two years ago, in March 2021, and Ikioi, whose ceremony was held the day after, in July 2021. There is still a backlog from COVID, and also these ceremonies take a long time to plan and execute. If he goes for a hotel ceremony, or a Kokugikan ceremony that is open to invited guests only, then it could be sooner, maybe just a few months. Given his popularity and his status as an ex-Ozeki and Emperor's Cup winner, I expect that he will have a full Kokugikan ceremony. If that's the case, then I would look for something in the beginning of June or August.
@@LauraJdogmom On the other hand, as of now, he will leave sumo behind, as he isn't a japanese citizen. Getting one last big payday from a large ceremony should be a fitting end for a great career, shouldn't it!?
Do we think that Kakuryu and Kurdish ima had any idea of tribe abuse scandals that happened in their stable? It’s hard to imagine that they didn’t know what was going on, which makes me super sad.
They don't live at the stable like the lower recruits. There are many hours they don't spend there, not to mention Kakuryu probably has hardly been to the stable since retirement.
The Mongol Empire went far and wide, at the flip side we have Afghanis and Pakistanis with Khan as surnames and the Mughal empire was founded by a descendant of Genghis Khan.
I'm a Mongolian and It's just a culture thing. Many Tibetan and Sanskrit names were borrowed in the past 400 years where Buddism were the main religion. It's still is. But today, we're more atheists who respect Buddhism. Even tho, you might not be a buddhist, you'd still have Buddhist names. Exactly like those westerners who have Biblical names.

Rivals on the dohyo do not necessarily mean personal animosity exist.
I think Asa had his flight from Mongolia delayed or something causing him to miss Hakuho's retirement.

I'm a Mongolian and It's just a culture thing. Many Tibetan and Sanskrit names were borrowed in the past 400 years where Buddism were the main religion.
It's still is. But today, we're more atheists who respect Buddhism.
Even tho, you might not be a buddhist, you'd still have Buddhist names. Exactly like those westerners who have Biblical names.
