Here now with my wife and child, it feels like a goldilocks city, not too big or small, not too busy or quiet, relatively affordable compared to larger international cities, good transit, caters to people instead of cars, have not been targeted (unsuccessfully) by pickpockets like we experienced in Madrid. Definitely need to start studying Spanish, my wife is fluent.
Exactly how I feel about that city
THANK YOU! People don’t talk about Valencia enough
I just moved to Valencia. It's definitely my favorite city so far and I've lived in many cities In Spain.
Good choice!
Wanna move there as well and I'm from Germany and lived in Granada/Malaga before. But finding a job is darn hard. 😭
Might I ask what you're doing for a living there?
Another video stated rentals are poorly made, i.e., thin walls. This caused the apartment to be extremely cold during winter and very hot during summer. Is this true?
@@Justin06241974 This is true especially for the older buildings. The newer ones are a bit more modern and durable, but overall yes it's true.
You’re a great presenter! I appreciated your breakdown of budget and interviewing the local gal. This is my dream city to move to and create a fulfilling life in, thanks for the info! 💛
Thank you so much!
I started looking into Spain earlier this year. I found Valencia to be the city that offered a lifestyle I would really enjoy. I decided to take a trip there back in March right after Las Fallas festival. It was everything I was hoping for! The city was amazing. The people I met were great and happy. I went in knowing a few phrases of Spanish, the ones that spoke English were very nice about it. A few days in felt like I was home. Compared to NY, going out was a treat because of the lower costs of everything in Spain. It’s hard to not fall in love with the life over there. Now it’s about planning fo relocate. finding a job has been far tougher than I could imagine as finding one to meet my needs that will lead to success is something that will take me time to find the right situation. I was ready to jump right into it but proper planning will get me to where I want to be. After the research/ experience I’ve been exposed to so far, Spain is a great place to relocate
Caveat emptor! Valencia has the largest submerged economy in Spain! People will try to pay part of your salary in cash, so you won't be declaring to hacienda your entire income, which means your pension will suffer! Just look carefully at any contracts you sign, and make sure the hours you work are the hours they declare to hacienda. I hate this. I am now self-employed and I declare all my income and refuse to work for cash-in-hand. It has taken a while, but now all our clients are French or Austrian. The clients from Madrid and Valencia are the most ratas, the ones who always pay late and who are the rudest. If I could relocate to Santander or Vigo, I would. Each region of Spain is different. Valencia is the most dishonest.

Like you, I'm from NY (but in FL now) and looking to move to Spain -- in Malaga, though. I am just waiting to get a remote job in the States before I move there on a digital nomad visa. I'm sure you are aware of it. Are you doing this?
@@denniszenanywhereseriously that's the best you can do! Very smart decision having a remote job and earning US income. Malaga is less expensive and more effortable than Valencia for sure. I have lived in Granada and until 2 month ago it always has been my favorite city in Spain...but now it's Valencia. It's expensive for Europeans (I live in Germany and wanna move away from here also)!
@@HelloHello-xm1ek I'm actually not from the US but I am looking to get remote job from US or perhaps even Germany (is it easy to get outsourcing job there?). But mostly, it's been easier to get outsourcing job from the US for the past years, not now. Right now, I don't meet the minimum required income to move to Spain. Valencia sounds great, too, and I'll gladly move there, but I hear Malaga is cheaper. Good luck!
Karl, your videos are so well done. I always enjoy them. I'm heading to Barcelona in October but jusy for vacay.
Glad you like them!

Thanks for sharing, Valencia is a great destination to relocate, don’t underestimate other Spanish,Portuguese,Italian and French cities and towns for value ✌🏿☕️🥰
Oh that's for sure. So many places to consider.
I have been looking at Barcelona for a while. I will have to visit Valencia. Seems really nice!
Valencia is nice, Barcelona is nicer but draws in more tourist and increased cost of living. Check out Valencia and see if it's the right fit for you.
Mr. Pierre! 🇭🇹 represent ✊🏿
My wife and I visited Valencia back in September of 2023. Wasn't expecting to love it, cause we were visiting a friend. But there is so much to see and do, and it is very inexpensive city, truly. There is some downside to living in Valencia, they take their siesta's very seriously in many areas, so while yes it's great that you can relax, you may not be able to get your prescription when you were hoping, however many of these stores will re-open around 5ish to 8. Even though it's the third largest city in Spain, it's something like the 8th busiest place to visit from tourism, so don't expect people to speak English. Also they have a relatively small airport. Now you can fly into bigger cities it's harder to do so, however taking the train to Madrid or Barcelona is only a 2-3 hour train ride.
It's a cool city
Hey I just came across your channel. I have 6 properties (Florida and Puerto Rico) that pay for life. We just spent 3 years living in the Virgin Islands and I think Spain might be our next adventure. I'm trying to put out the same message as you. New Sub.

@@Karl__Pierre For sure! I'd love to. I'll send you an email with all my contact info.
Really interesting video. Thanks for sharing! What other cities would compete with Valencia in Spain or Portugal?
in my opinion, Valencia is really unique, no comparable with other Spain or Portugal cities. btw Portugal is also unique and Porto and Lisboa as well.
Great video. About retirement ? Which type of Visa Spain offers for American citizens?
Wayyy Kool. Thx a Ton.
Glad you liked it!
Great video!
Gracias por hacer este video! Actualmente vivo en Australia, pero estamos viendo opciones de mudarnos de vuelta a Espanha en un futuro.
De nada
it's an amazing city, the beach, food, people. very nice and safe, not super expensive. also with the trains in Europe you can get there easily.
Very true!

Just came across your channel and immediately subscribed 😊 My husband and I are considering moving to Spain and initially had Valencia on our radar. However we've found out that most apartments are noisy and quite a few that we liked were not pet friendly (we have a cat)
Could you do a video on homes in small villages 30 minutes or so away from a major city? Which locations would be great to consider for a more quite laid back life.
I have a few videos on pego and Oliva you should checks those out. They are about 50 minutes from Valencia. Close enough to commute for entertainment. Check those out.

It sounds all beautiful. is there any mountains, lakes, hiking spots nearby the city of Valencia?
Yes there are.
What are your thoughts on France? I really enjoy your videos! Thanks for putting together so many options for living in other countries. Just wanted to know your take on France.

Thanks for sharing this video, very interesting. Is there much difference between Valencia and Alicante in costs? Property prices, cost of living or winter weather please? Thanks 👍🏼
They are pretty similar
Demasiada historia 😅
@@josevicentelopeztel2072 translation in English please
Rent has doubled more less in the last few years. So many people coming from states and around Europe and most work online remotely. This drives cost of everything up and locals can't afford to live in the city. Same all over europe. Valencia is a great place to live at the end of the day
This will always happen
Yes i am so suprised with the amount of money you need to live there. Not worth at all anymore especially if the locals cant live there anymore.
The fact he wave it away saying its normal is beyond me.
@jmdeking because it is normal and happens throughout the world. Plenty of people immigrate to the USA for opportunities that they feel are better suited. Nomadic humans followed the food source. Nothing has changed.
Great video...thanks for sharing. My wife and I would like to spend May, June, and July in Europe and Valencia is one of the places we'd like to spend a month or more in if we can afford it. Problem is that furnished apartments we've seen on Airbnb in Valencia are very expensive for these months and out of our budget. Do you have any tips on how we can find a furnished studio for about 800-900 Euros a month somewhere accessible to city center by public transport and walking?
I think that will be quite difficult you'll have to find a owner who travels for the summer and doesn’t want to list on airbnb. Any coastal town in Europe for May-August will be at peak prices.
Yes, our timing is not the best. I do very much appreciate the reply to my question and I'll continue to watch your excellent videos and share them with others. @@Karl__Pierre
Don't Americans need to apply for a Longterm visa to live in Spain beyond the 3 months visa?
Yes, there are a few pathways for that.
Well for Americans it sounds cheap, but for Europeans it's expensive. Especially the rents in Valencia. I have lived in Granada and it's waaay cheaper over there, but I was shocked with the rents in Valencia 😭 don't forget: you don't earn much in Spain! If you get American income you are gonna live like a King/Queen over there. But for most of us Europeans it's damn expensive 😭😭😭
Hey I’m moving to Spain next year and am tossing up between Granada and Valencia could you message me about your experiences in each?
@@djasifalcon6379 from which country youoving to España?
Granada is the cheapest option, Valencia is great, but not much nature and suuuper hot in Summer and expensive. Granada is a smaller city, more likely a University City, lots of international students live there. But nature is great, loved the climate thru the entire year (all seasons). Valencia is full of concrete, they try to make it more eco-friendly, but that will take a time
nah dude, I'm European (from Bavaria) and Valencia is like half the price as it's in my small town here.
@@shaclo1512 Naja, mit München kannste das natürlich nicht vergleichen. Ich komme aus der Gegend von Hannover. Aber ich fand die Whng.kosten schon teurer (für mich) als hier. :/

Karl, Do You Own Valencia Apts

Do you have to know Valenciano to communicate with the locals? I speak some Spanish and from the U.S.
Not at all they don't even speak it!
@@Karl__Pierre Yes they do. Just not to foreigners. You are seeing the best behaviour because you have something Valencianos want, your money. I bet everybody smiles at you alot. Wow, wait until the honeymoon period is over or your business crashes. You will be abandoned quicker than it takes to say "coca y fiesta".
All of Spain refers to Valencianos as chulos (pimps, poseurs). Unless you speak fluent Spanish you won't realise you're being ripped off. Lol, Valencia is totally a rip-off comunidad, and sadly I have my business here. Unless you double-check everything, your gestoria will also try to rip you off. Good luck with that. My partner is Spanish from Extremadura and I speak fluent Spanish and I have plenty of experience of double-checking tax returns and getting even more money back because I hassled my accountant to do her damned job. If people want to be in a constant state of tension, then come to Valencia. Even the driving here is without rules. The north of Spain is bliss by comparison, ethics-wise and weather wise. It's too late for us, but this is my CUIDADO! to Americans moving here: you will be FLEECED of your money if you are not careful.
Always ALWAYS get three or more quotes for building work. Buy the materials yourself. People here will not hesitate to show you one insulation board and then use another cheap one. I had to stop a job in its tracks because of that shit. Now I am using a builder from AVILA and it is going far better... There is no sliding scale of good work. It's either expensive and shit or really really expensive and OK. So now I just buy everything and our treasure of a builder gets on with it. And I was told by this same builder that here people pick who to rip off, if you look like a soft touch, you will be ripped off. He says a builder in Javea tried that with some eastern european customers and was locked in a garage for three days as punishment. So don't be all nice and smiley or you will be laughed at and charged a small fortune.
En toda España se habla español así qué no tienes ningún problema
I really want to move to Valencia. I live in Texas now. I just don’t know how to do it legally unless I go to college .. I need to get a Visa. Any tips ??
Get an employment visa as an English teacher and or consult with an immigration attorney in Spain. That will be best.
People saying Spain is expensive, that may be true, but not to lots of Americans, and other expats...I pay $2645 monthly for a townhouse...not everybody is worried about low wages in other countries if they dont plan to work, but, not paying its citizens enough to actually live nicely, is maddening
How much should someone be paid and who is paying them?
You know when the young server was discussing salary she was speaking monthly, $1000EU/Month
Yes of course
what visa would one reccomend , my wife and i have enough to buy a home in spain cash, and enogh savings for us 2 at about 2000 euro per month for 15 years saved up. thanks
Not sure but I can do a video on that in the near future.
Valencia is my favorite city in Spain, but two words to those who want to move there: wealth tax.
So if I understand you pay income tax from the 1st Euro you earn. I think in the UK yo do not pay tax on the 1st 12K GBP.
Not sure I'd have to defer to a tax professional
What about variety? Is it ethnically diverse?
Yes there is some diversity mostly European, African, South American
I’m really wanting to move to Spain (actually Valencia myself) and buy property. However I’m terrified about what I hear on them taxing your foreign income and taxation in general over there.
Meet with an accountant and attorney to see how you must be structured
@@Karl__Pierre you wouldn't happen to have one you'd recommend would you? I'm trying to move there in about two months. I'm guessing you found a good way to structure things, i've been searching up and down and all I see is bad news for the tax situation to the point i'm about to back out.
No way. Vigo has a far better lifestyle. Valencia in summer is suffocatingly hot. I live down the coast from Valencia. It is hell in the summer. Work in the north, party in the south. Comunidad Valenciana is known as the party region. If that is your thing, fine. If you want to live and work somewhere more efficient, go north to Cantabria, Asturias, Galicia, Castilla and Leon... My tuppence worth.
I like that hot weather doesn't bother me one bit
Hey I hope somebody replies to this 😅… I’m looking to move to Valencia from London where I have lived for 5 years.. I am selling my property BUT I’m only wanting to RENT in Valencia!!
Bit of background of my situation.. I have a LTD British company but I work 14days at sea in the Netherlands and live the other 14 days at home in UK, so I would not want to work in Spain/Valencia. I’d like to simply rent an apartment in Valencia and do the same exact same as I’m doing now in London work 14 days offshore in Netherlands where I live on a vessel 🚢 and then spend the other days in my rented accommodation in Valencia.
COULD I DO THIS? What would I need? I have no ties at all , no kids,no girlfriend, no debts, is this possible as I’m not sure how having a British LTD company would affect me living in Spain at all.. apologies for the long message and probably confusing to some but there we go 😅 anyone living in Valencia who could help me out it would be much appreciated👌🏼🤝🏼 thanks
I think that is possible if your LTD is paying you in the form of dividends you can claim it as passive income and use that as a exemption. If you really want to do this best thing to do is.secure a Spanish immigration attorney to assist you with best low to no tax implications. Also don't sell the house in England...keep it and rent it also that rental income can be used to qualify as passive income.
@@Karl__Pierre thanks for you reply, I appreciate it and i will certainly look into a Spanish attorney to help me with everything, lets seeeee 🤔🤞🏼
will u still go back to ft lauderdale one a month
Nope
my man 10 to 20 euro..is 100% difference,, i dont say is bad ,,just real cost if you want to live same as in US ..is probably 3000 ++ euros
Yes so is 1 cent and 2 cents. Still far less expensive than life in a larger US city
$6k for a family to live there? I know expat families of 4 living in valencia for 2000EU/month.... in the center of valencia
All depends on lifestyle. I don't doubt it's doable on 2000 euro.
How is that possible for 2000€ an month in city center???The rents are sooo expensive, especially in the city center!
This chik is HOOOOIT.I need contac from Carla...to ask her something please:))
Lol
The tax rates are for each tranche, not the entire income!
Explain
A lot of wrong info about taxes and the amount you need to live... Also you should say that earning 2000 euros for average employed people is almost impossible.. Very few people earn this amount. You need your own business for that. An important fact is that Valencia is a great city to live in, but if you come here looking for a job it is difficult to find something good and it is not well paid. The actual Rent is more higher. Renting a home became extremely difficult to encounter and you need an a minimum one year old contract, undefined, with at least 1600 salary. Nice video though, well done, very professional. Cheers
Would you be willing to.come on live.to talk about this?

have lived in Valencia for a few months now and I defiantly would not recommend the city to anyone. Yes the prices used to be cheaper a few years ago now i really don't feel that they are much cheaper than other similar size cities on Europe. the people are very elitist and racist towards foreigners (gueri). i don't think i have ever felt such judgmental people anywhere. also, they have no manners or respect. for anyone or anything. I especially was disappointed at how Spainards treat working people badly, for example waiters as servants and in a very unrespectful manner. i have traveled the world and was very surprised by the culture of Spain especially in Valencia.
Very different from what I experienced how long were you there?
Los impuestos progresivos son una cosa de locos. ¿45% por 35.200? 😢
Yeah seems pretty crazy
The quality of life for pretty much everyone there is pretty impressive though, I was just there for over 3 weeks and they really do take care of their vulnerable. Hopefully moving there in about 6 months if not sooner!
