  • Basic review on how to strip down forks to replace fork seals. Also how and why to use emulators (PD or Gold Valves). Note this is not Sponsored by YSS as I noticed their sticker was in most of the videos, that was by accident.
01:44 Start of the strip down
13:00 Explain why and how emulators or damping works

Yes, but I think I will have to switch to using 2 Pac paint, as I repainted the wheels and its already chipped of a little bit!! So will try if next time to see if its tougher (it should be)

Another excellent job.... A tip, if the internal bushings are im a little loose, replace them, as the chance of leakage through the retainers is great. The suspensions of my RD 350, I was forced to change the two inner tubes because they were crooked, probably due to a fall or light knock and I already changed these blessed bushings for new ones to not have problems. They still need to be assembled, but who said I find time!?... hahaha

I have difficulty finding the new bushes on line, I hope they will be ok, we shall see I suppose after a few miles of use. Fingers crossed.

The spacer will act like pre-load, so it depends on your weight. Best method is to re-assemble the forks put a zip tie on the fork, fully extend the front forks by putting it on the centre stand so front wheel is off the ground push the zip tie fully down to the dust seal. Measure between zip tie and lower fork clamp, make a note of that. Ease it off the centre stand and gently sit on the bike (try not to bounce the fork). Measure the new gap with a friend. The difference needs to be about 20-30%. "Static Sag = ((Unloaded Length - Loaded Length) ÷ Unloaded Length) x 100%" Then if its to big a percentage increase the size of the spacer and too little reduce. Suggest start off with stock settings. As for the viscosity of the oil that depends on your weight and road conditions, more bumpy, thinner oil, smooth race track you can increase. Its a balance between allowing the wheel to stay in contact with the ground over bumps versus having too much dive when hitting the breaks. You should also set static sag on the rear suspension but its a bit harder.
