I know this was 2 years ago. But I’d like to do this to my Kia Forte GT. Would this be easy for someone’s first time doing it? Also how would you recommend painting the break calipers.
If you don't want to take your wheels off, you should at least jack up the wheel so you can rotate it. Also, I used the fingers off some surgical gloves to slip over the lug nuts, worked great.
Wanted to stop back and say thanks for this video. Just dipped all 4 rims on my type S TL using this exact method and they turned out flawless. Thanks!
Tip: The rim needs to be completely dry or you could get rust. My younger brother rushed and dipped his wheels for a car show, he had a water spot underneath and when he took it off two months later, he had a rust spot! Take your time!
Rust is formed, when water and iron oxidise i.e. in air, how does oxygen get under a SPRAY PAINTED seal, can't, your talking bullshit, there was rust there already
I dipped the emblems on my car. Never spray painted anything in my life and it was so easy. It peeled off the edges perfectly. Will be doing my wheels next day it's not raining.
I've done may rims over the years using either cards or something else to mask off the tire. Finally used dip release for the first yesterday while doing 4 rims at once and it made life so much easier to remove the dip from the tire. I'm kicking myself for not using dip release earlier. Game Changer, highly recommended along with a can gun. 10/10
Thanks for the clip. I have watched a few clips now on how to plasti dip wheels from various presenters. This is by far the most comprehensive and informative explanation I've seen. Will probably take my rims off the vehicle to do them (large 4WD) as I believe that this will probably give a better result, and I have plenty of time. Cheers .............
Today i'm dipping my wheels, a little nervous! LOL ....Man i wish i had this product back when i was a teenager when all i used to do was trick out my cars back in the day. Thanks Fonzie for such a wonderful product and putting together these videos! I mean think about it, you can paint your car/ wheels for hardly any money and if you don't like it all you have to do is just peel it off.
Just got done. I was nervous at first because I have never did it, but it turned out great I also got some spray on a area where the bag was open but I just scrubbed it off so you have nothing to worry about if you do get some on your rotors. I suggest washing car by hand and cleaning tires with tire shine and i used just a bit of tire shine on the rims to make them shine and it looks great
Thanks, ironically this video was released right before I started my wheels this week. Glad I waited. I'll probably be taking off the wheels to dip them however.
Thanks for your videos. Just dipped my wheels Matte Black on my 2010 Camaro, and it came okay for my first time. Not a perfect job but I'm still pleased with the results.
@@versatillion15 Its just not my thing anymore. I just prefer to buy real black wheels. Not to say that a good Plasti Dip job doesn't look good. It definitely can if you know how to do it right.
This vid + another site on how to dip rims was very helpful. I did it myself in an afternoon. My husby thought I was crazy, but it looks great. If it lasts a while, I'll be happy. And then may redo or spend the $$ to powder coat them permanently. I thought this was a very good DIY option, not hard, and results were very good.
True, but I would run it through a manual car wash and focus on the wheels. The pressure sprayer should get most of it off and make it easier to casually clean it.
jay hundley He said manual carwash dumbass, meaning you do it yourself with the hose. And if you care enough about your paint not to wash it with a carwash, you probly wouldn't be using plasti dip.

Did this to my 99 accord. Bought it with rusted up rims and this made it look like 100000 times better. I know that it's probably not a good idea to plasti dip things that are rusted or peeling but this car looked so much like shit, that anything would make it look better. Now I'm planning on buying some more plasti dip and doing my 2012 Chargers rims tomorrow :) All white charger with black rims, spoiler, grill, and lights would look awesome in my opinion. (not plasti dipping my lights.)
Guys, thank you so much for all the videos you made. It helped me so much dipping my wheels, my car and even the kitchen of my house. Love it. Greetings from the Netherlands.
I was going to buy new rims, but saw the videos and thought I'd try 60 bucks before thousands. It worked great on my new Tacoma. I figure if it lasts a year it was well worth the few hours I spent on the wheels. I also did my hood scoop and it looked terrible (all due to user error) So I peeled the dip off in less than 5 minutes and did it again. It looks pretty damned good now. Figure every year or so I will go with a different color. Glad I did this.
I did this myself once but I didn't have an open rim as you do, so it was pretty much just one step. My dip was black so I just sprayed the rim and was done in 15 min. It was really easy and the finsih was nice as well.
Great guide. If dipping wheels while on the car, do you recommend masking off the lug nut areas (and the valve stem?) so that you can remove the wheels safely in the future without ripping the plasti dip? thanks

Oliver Rolle yes it's doable. I would after you finish all coats of your black plasti dip then wait about 20-30 min. Mask around where you want your wheel stripe then paint your wheel stripe. Wait to dry remove masking apply gloss
THIS IS AMAZING!! SO MUCH EASIER THAN PAINTING!!!! THANK YOU FONZIE!!!!
