      1000mcg is 1 mg which is nothing. Prof. Dale Bredesen uses Li in his protocol and mentions it in his reverse best selling Alzheimer's books. As I recall (not sure) the protocol is 40 mg of elemental Li/day so I take 5 mg qid to be conservative. Some well water contains Li in this range for a 4 liter per day intake. Still, do NOT take Li if you have kidney disease without a consult with a kidney specialist. I have ordered the book he mentioned. Another great interview so thanks to MHS.

    I remember many years ago a man lectured a group of Parkinson's patients and asked all the smokers in the audience to raise their hands. No one did. He tied it to the high content of lithium in tobacco. I've been taking 5 mg. a day for over a decade and went from 3 clusters of 3 or 4 migraines a year to 4 episodes in over ten years. With all the studies that have been done, why has the FDA not established a minimum daily requirement? Lithium is cheap, has the pharmaceutical industry blocked the establishment of an MDR? Naturally occurring Lithium in drinking water has shown to be tied to lower rates of; murder, suicide, physical abuse, substance abuse as well as other neurological disorders. Big Pharma makes huge profits on mind altering anti-depressants with harsh side effects and other drugs. Iodine is added to our salt, the same could be done with Lithium Chloride, once used as a salt substitute. The old adage "An ounce of prevention is worth a pond of cure" rings true with Lithium.

    • @jmc8076
      @jmc8076 Рік тому

      Prevention is better yes. Anything used to treat should respect and protect (fully) informed consent with open free access to all studies with all reports of neg effects reported. Fluoride was added to public drinking water to ‘prevent dental carries’ and many studies now showing have more risk then benefit. The iodine in natural salt vs table salt/sodium chloride healthier and better recognized by human body. Search history of why iodine was added to sodium chloride.

    As someone with a background in functional medicine, a few thoughts: 1. still amazed that someone would reference Neurology and Psychiatry as completely unrelated fields, but it's all the brain. If we were focused on the root causes of health problems (as opposed to indefinite pharmaceutical management), we would see NeuroPsych as more unified. 2. In the functional, integrative and naturopathic realm, lithium is viewed as an essential mineral for the brain so really not surprising it would help a variety of Neuropsych conditions. 3. particularly grateful that research trials are being done to clarify optimal doses, forms of lithium for underlying Neuropsych conditions. Lithium orotate supplementation in doses 5-40mg daily have been used by many for many years.

    • @m0ckingB1rd42
      @m0ckingB1rd42 Рік тому

      Nope. It’s likely the lithium. Nicotine has negative cardiovascular risks at even small doses. It is a stimulant and may have a very temporary ability to enhance cognition, but in the long run it damages the cardiovascular system which itself increases the risk of dementia and cognitive decline.

      @@georgegeorge3294 Nicotine is a known nootropic substance, so this doesn't surprise me. I'm not aware of any evidence linking the use of isolated nicotine to reduced PD or AZ. The high concentration of lithium in tobacco leaves mentioned in this video could explain the PD connection.

    What’s the difference between the supplement and the prescription? Didn’t you have another guess whose number 1 supplement was lithium? What daily dose?

    • @ModernHealthspan
      @ModernHealthspan  Рік тому +2

      Hi Scott, thanks for the question. The other guest who suggested lithium was Dr Kris Verburgh from NOVOS. I think their formulation includes 1 gram. We get into the daily dose later in the series. But in a nutshell, the prescription dose for bipolar disorder is typically 300mg lithium carbonate, supplements are available in 1 or 5mg capsules normally and are li orotate or aspartate. Which lithium salt is also probably not important, something else we discuss later.

    • @ValFoc
      @ValFoc Рік тому

      @@ModernHealthspan Verburgh uses 1 mg (or 1,000 mcg), NOT 1 gram, in NOVOS Core. 300 mg/day is often used for treating bipolar disorder. Low-dose lithium is just 1-5 mg/day. Don't confuse mg & grams - a factor of 1,000 here is the difference between "likely to help" and "danger! watch out!"
      (Note that 1,000 mcg = 1 mg, and 1,000 mg = 1 g.)
