I had read of two studies in Texas and Japan. They compared areas where Lithium was in the drinking water at just under 1 to 2 mg. per liter. and areas where there was none. Areas with Lithium had lower rates of murder, suicide, physical abuse and substance abuse. I live in an area with no Lithium in the water. I have been supplementing with 5 mg. Lithium Orotate which is about 2.2 mg. elemental Lithium. It has helped my ME/CFS brain fog and I rarely have migraines anymore. It seems clear that for optimal neurological health the body needs to take in a small amount of Lithium every day. I don't understand how we can have a MDR for so many elements but nothing for Lithium. When I told a new doctor I was supplementing she had me tested. I must have missed a dose as the level of Lithium was undetectable. This means none in the water or in the foods I eat.
@@ModernHealthspan It's widely available. I've been using Swanson's lithium orotate product for years. It's 5mg elemental lithium. It's about ten cents a day.
I read that 5mg of lithium orotate is almost as effective as 100mg of lithium carbonate. So maybe it is the orotate that makes it so effective at low dose?
Does anyone know if lithium orotate dissolves in water? What would happen if one were to empty a 1 mg capsule into a gallon of water? Would it dissolve or just drop to the bottom?
I've been taking lithium orotate, 10 mg/day for a few weeks now after watching these videos. Like most supplements, I have no idea if it's having any effect. I tried fucoidan but it dropped off my list after I decided it was some kind of Japanese folkore. Omega 3 fish oil is barely, but still on my list. We'll see if lithium stays on. I'll go through this bottle of 180 pills, and after three months decide whether to reorder it. My problem is that I take a lof of different supplements and have no idea which ones work and which ones don't. Overall I'm in really great shape, which I attribute to doing a lot of exercise and losing weight.
Hi Sax thanks for your question. Dr Guttuso does cover this in the video although one of the things he says is that dose is still being worked out. Reading the book they mostly seem to go for a specific plasma concentration of lithium. However the specific numbers for the two Brazilian studies were 150 mg and 0.3mg and his own trial is 10, 45 and 150 mg.
It is possible the LATTICE trial is "designed to fail." Given the huge market that AD and PD are, the NIH/FDA works hand in hand with industry to make sure only pharma drugs get good clinical trials and in the end the drugs are often of modest or no benefit for AD. The latest AD drugs targeting beta-amyloid are extremely expensive.
I don't see how this can possibly work. How are you going to patent it? How are you going to make it expensive enough. Stuff is produced based on profit not efficacy.
It was explicitly pointed out that there's not much interested in a free drug from the pharmaceutical industry and therefore study money is limited. The results seem pretty cool. Why the weird emoji?
Personally, I take the 1000 microgram caps from life extension. Seems that's a pretty good starting point. So small yet potentially significant. Why do you want people to make up something or just specify something that hasn't been researched sufficiently yet? Can't hurt you
Hi Otto, thanks for you comment. Dr Guttuso says we still don't know the optimum dose. That is one of the aims of his trial which is using 10, 45 and 150mg. From the book it looks like 45 was most effective - though as a note this is quite high as most supplements are 1 or 5mg. He said he will be publishing the results soon which should provide some more guidance.
@@ModernHealthspan Kal makes a sublingual 5 mg lithium tablet, with that suggestion to take it close to bedtime. Dosing advice from supplement manufacturers is, of course, suspect, but I have been using this product for years with no obvious ill effects. BTW, lithium is naturally present in the water in some places, where it has been noted that there is less suicide.

Hi Shirley Thanks for sharing.
The Novos Core longevity mix from Novos Labs includes 1 mg of lithium. Sounds like a good level based on this interview. Thanks!
Hi Ken thanks for sharing. I had not heard of lithium as a supplement until Dr Verbergh of NOVOS spoke about it in our interview.

Are there any hypotheses at this point regarding mechanism of action?
Kal sells a lithium product. Kal is a very high quality that has been around for decades. It’s very inexpensive as well

Paul, what would not getting Alzheimers feel like? I suspect it feels like "nothing's happening".
I have just started taking 5mg of lithium orotate for major depression.
It's in tobacco, I had no idea!
So what were the lithium dosages tested in the studies???
He mentioned them at 4:00 and on a bit.
