Thank you Richard and Dr Guttuso, I just began to take 1 mg x 5 Lithium Orotate. I took them separately in the morning and evening. After listened to this, I shall just take all in the morning. I do feel mentally clearer even taking for a few days only.
I have used lithium orotate periodically over the years. I enjoy the positive results of it, but I noticed last time I was using it regularly that I would have MASSIVE panic attacks if I didn’t dose consistently. These were 5mg tablets and I would usually take half in the morning and the other half later in the day. I picked up some lithium aspartate at the store today because that’s all they had. I will probably wait to get the orotate version before I test it out, again.
My psychiatrist who specializes in non-drug approaches told me to take lithium orotate not lithium aspartate, but I don’t know why. I have taken over the counter lithium since I had a bipolar episode 20 years ago, and so far haven’t had any recurrances or side effects.
I am very sensitive to glutamate. Aspartate is another excitatory even possibly neurotoxic amino acid in large enough doses. That may be contributing to the problem noted. Their highest dose didn’t use aspartate, but rather carbonate. No side effects with it, but the moderate dose with aspartate did have side effects. It’s the aspartate causing the problem.
Hi Charles, thanks for sharing. Dr Guttuso does discuss in the book why he choose aspartate for the supplement form (rather than orotate). His discussion on the different doses and what form the salt is is interesting.
@@ModernHealthspan can you please ask him about vegan lithium...seems to be the closest form we can get to the one in food...the brand is called Cardio-lith (formerly Li-Zyme Forte”
@@eightofhearts All lithium is vegan. The only thing that might not be vegan would be the gelatin that the capsule is made of. There are vegan alternatives to those, though.
I took lithium supplements (5 mg) fora long time and I got tremors which went away when I stopped. I can’t guarantee that there was a cause and effect but I stopped because tremors were a symptom of the pharmaceutical dosage.
Would it be safe to use 50 mg of Vyvanse for morning, 10 mg of Adderall for a booster in the afternoon, and then add 5 mg of orotate lithium before bed? I currently am on the Vyvanse and the Adderall. I just feel I need something else for mood stabilizing. Will the lithium be a good addition or would that put me at risk for serotonin syndrome?

Did you try the aspartate? I am about to order some, not tried it before, only the orotate version.

I think I've heard orotate more but I have a friend that said not to take oratates in general. I don't remember why.
Orotate crosses the blood brain barrier faster
My doctor recommended lithium orotate.
How do you find a doctor like this?
@@AmaranthineIntrigue It was just luck.

I’m going to assume that the orotate is the best tolerated.

It was orotate I think
Hi Julia, thanks for sharing. The dosage does seem to affect people in different ways. It is interesting that only 5mg impacted you in that way.
Forget carbonate and aspartate...Take 5-10 mg Lithium Orotate.
Why?
Thanks Richard.
Thanks Ron!
