    Lithium is a GSK3 inhibitor, like one of the Yamanaka Factors. Helps rejuvenate stem cells, particularly in skeletal muscle.
    It's one of the earliest ingredients I added to a muscle wastage reversal supplement I've been working on for 10 years, on and off.
    It alters the dynamics of how the body uses inositol, diacylglycerol, and phospholipids.
    Acts like a molecular switch to switch on another mode in the body and brain that I haven't fully mapped out what it does.

      It also activates telomerase and they have shown longer telomere length associated with long term Lithium use. If not everyone is aware, long telomeres are associated with longevity.

    • @darkhorseman8263
      @darkhorseman8263 Рік тому +5

      @@brienq Technically, telomere loop dynamics is more important than length.
      You can lengthen telomeres without the proper loop dynamics, which can lead to cancer.
      Luckily, most chemicals that lengthen telomeres also ping the gene that restores loop dynamics, too.
      There are a couple that don't, though. Should be wary of them.
      Been a long while since I researched this, though. Forget which is which.

    But the chronic fatigue and debilitating anxiety is the worst.

    i was taking a low dose of lithium orotate. between 5-10mg. it took me weeks, or months, to figure out it was responsible for the insomnia was dealing with. i couldn't get to sleep at all, wide awake most of the night. think what happened was in the beginning it wasn't having this effect, then this insomnia crept up on me and i didn't suspect the lithium which i thought would be helping sleep. i'm going back to taking it earlier in the day now

      Thanks for sharing that, I just posted minutes ago how it gives me insomnia too which is very disappointing! Yes, I was wide awake too after taking 5 mg right before bed, but even if I take it in the morning I will still only get 5 or so hours sleep instead of my typical 7 hours.

      @@brienq thanks for sharing as well. i took a few months off of it but just took it again yeserday morning and was able to sleep just fine. but how it may impact sleep as i continue to use it will be something to monitor. i will keep taking it in the morning and try and report back here about whether or not sleep eventually becomes effected or not

    Can you address concerns with lithium and kidney function? I believe there was a 2014 study saying that lithium degrade GFR but then there was a 2022 study saying lithium promotes kidney longevity. All very confusing.

    • @kittyhooch1
      @kittyhooch1 Рік тому +6

      It depends on the dose. Supplements generally are 10 MG or less, whereas prescription is probably 300 MG and should only be taken under medical supervision.

    • @ModernHealthspan
      @ModernHealthspan  Рік тому +7

      Hi Scott, thanks for the question, as Kitty has said it is to do with dose. Typical doses for bipolar disorder, for which it is prescribed are 300mg. Kidney issues are seen after many years at this dose. The dose here is 10 or 15 mg.

    Do doses cited correspond to elemental Li, or a salt? Thanks

    • @brienq
      @brienq Рік тому +1

      In medical science they usually speak of the elemental dosage when describing the bioactive effect of an elemental compound, so it would be 10 mg of elemental Li. It's also how they label the supplement's product name, i.e., Lithium Aspartate 10 mg is referring to the Li only.
