This is MUCH more of a GREMLIN than a Pacer! The three point bridge is the AMC transmission, except the AMC parts fell out on the road, instead of on stage whenever you break a string. I've done a few modifications to those 3-point bridges, and/or the saddles, and I've made replacement saddles, for five of these over the years, and I've still never been really happy with that bridge. Those pups sounded pretty decent. I'm confused by all the black hardware, the gold knobs, and the bright, white, chrome pickup covers and pickup rings, and a white pick guard (scratch plate)...
@@hailmaryrecordings8255 Kazzzactly. It's a one off. I'd switch out the pickguard w a black one with no t-bird - instead, a DWOFS sticker on it. But I'm just a guitar player. Everybody should have one of these in their 'collection'. To the owner - Don't get rid of this, you'll regret it. Memories are feelings too. 'Damn why did I sell that?' happens way too often in this culture.
9:38 Let's install a set of Rotosound Bass Strings (Product No RS66LDN) in Standard Gauge. They originally used a 100 for the Low E String, we're going to bump that up to a 105 so the neck has the correct relief.
If it's that bad I'd go as far as heavy 110-90-75-55 see if it brings the neck back. It could have set too long without string tension on it . And being a neck through not as easy to replace the neck like in a bolt on or even a set neck
@@RockStarOscarStern634 the 105-45 is what I use on all of my basses unless they are high tension strings it would take a while to pull it back from a back bow. Maybe tuned up half a step as well.
shat my pants when i saw the thumbnail. i actually love the green. maybe not this green, with the gold. especially not the quality of the paint job. but I really like the idea
Where did the pickups get procured from??? This is one badass bass. Green notwithstanding. Cover your eyes and listen to that bad boy! Such a bass . . . .
I have a 2015 Gibson Thunderbird bass, purist seem to have an issue with this bass but I love it. The 2015 Thunderbird comes with a black Babicz full contact 3 point bridge. ( Dave you'd love the bridge) which I feel is an upgrade & there's new Alnico V pickups with 2 coil tap, (some folks hate that the poles are visable) though they're very versatile pick ups And of course it comes with Grover tuners .. it's a great sounding bass.
Oh, man a Loop Shirt! Station's not around anymore, unfortunately. But it was a great station, for sure. You wanted your rock in Chicago, you put the Loop on.
I like the color. The only thing I don't like is I wish the body top was flat. And I wish it didn't have that line in the middle. It sounds good. Green and black chrome are a nice combination.
Wish you had done a "How to set up your bass: T-bird edition" video. As popular as these basses are, there is hardly ANY spec info online on how to set them up. Also, your experience in working with the dreaded 3 point bridge would've really come in handy...
What did they use to paint that T-bird? A brick and a rake? Not the worst paint job I ever saw but it's damn close. Dave sure seemed to like the way it played when he was done...
I love Gibson basses, I have two, but there is no way in hell I would own this monstrosity. Poor Thunderbird, you probably deserved better. I used to have an old Framus Starbass that was this color but whoever did the refinish did a great job, this Gibson is just shabby. Dave, don't eat bologna, have cotto salami instead.
More like a Thunder Turd. Gotta love that fart tone on the E string with the original crap pickups. Also the crooked black and gold racing stripe is hideous! Facepalm paint job.
That thing is the AMC Pacer of bass guitars
That’s funny!
@@mysterj1 The thing ! America Motors . HA HA !

Reminds me of my grandmother's back porch in 1955.
A 1955 VW Beetle...
Painted with a brush
Gumby Green, Damn it
It's Gumby damn it!
Those stripes down the center of the body really add a nice touch to the Kermit paint job.
Looks like if a child painted it with a brush for a school project.
To be fair, I committed worse crimes to my first guitar when I was 15.
@@stoutlager6325 well, if a 15-y-old did this, it is fine. (i am just skipping through the video, don't have time)

Careful dudes - how quickly we forget. Just don't.
It's the Green Bastard, from parts unknown! I'm betting that's an Epiphone with Gibson cover ...
It’s Thunderbird 2!
There is nothing better than a guitar or bass that is GREEN.
Pretty cool bass ! The paint gives it character I’d play it ,
Grass is always greener and so is this bass
The Green LanTurd. That made me laugh.

I used to have a beautiful Celtic green SG 1962 reissue.
Rattlecan Green.
Quality of the paint aside, I really like the shade of green chosen, and the accents on the headstock.
Not ugly, I think it looks badass.
The Loop! 97.9! I used to listen to that all the time way back when growing up in N. Illinois.
Great throwback WLUP shirt. Greetings from Chicago!
shat my pants when i saw the thumbnail. i actually love the green. maybe not this green, with the gold. especially not the quality of the paint job. but I really like the idea
It makes the perfect green screen for video editing.
The old bridge saddle switch-a-roo.
WLUP 97.9 “Chicago’s kick ass rock n’ roll station”.
Grew up listening to the loop
I was yelling at the screen! DAVE THEY ARE MARKED UNDER THE SADDLE! LOL
Oh no, a bass in puke green !!!. Should of renamed it " Chunderbird ".
should *have
If your puke is that shade of green you need to go to the hospital or lay-off the lime jello.
HAAAA
Ugly is right
It's not easy being green !
Love those pups
Nice shirt Dave. Hello from Chicago!
Dave: "This one is painted LIKE ASS..."...hehehe
Needs the Hipshot replacement bridge
WLUP was king of radio in the late 70's and disco demolition was probably where it peaked.
My drill index that looks the same is from "DRILL HOG" love them .
These reverse tuners are sending me into space! I laughed when you said that because I heard how many times you did that :D
beautiful
I have the exact same flashlight..love it. I don't have any Green guitar shaped objects😎
love that suction thing
It's GOOCHED!!
I say drill motor too. The actual drill is the bit. The motor spins it.
Where did the pickups get procured from??? This is one badass bass. Green notwithstanding. Cover your eyes and listen to that bad boy! Such a bass . . . .
The song in your head was Pistol Slapper Blues - Blind Boy Fuller covered by Rory Gallagher
I just bought one of the last Epiphone Thunderbird natural oil... nice looking and I am not a bassist.
It's not easy being Green!
😖👍

I like hearing that Petersen like at 17:24 and thereabouts. Guitar was a hair width from ending- up in the Gooch Pile

What pickups are the chrome ones?
9:38 Time for some strings
It was a shame that the LOOP was lost as a rock station in Chicago.
What kind of pickups?they sound awesome
I've got one. Pretty solid all around then it all goes to hell when you get to the bridge.
Nice bass.

I have an RD bass and the saddles are numbered on the bottom
I spoke too soon lol
Looks exactly like Gumby
It isn't easy being green.
I dunno, put a silver bridge on it and I think it would look pretty cool!
I'd change the gold knobs too and wet sand the orange peel out of the finish and re clear it
Ooowwww...my eyes
Nice Shirt!

Maybe we can have a whip round and get enough together to strip that back to factory. Yikes.
Wouldn't a dual action truss rod go loose before it starts tightening again in the other direction?
I never understood why green and white cycloramas give me headaches, but the blue screens don't.
oh look at that, switched the saddles to their right spot and it looks intonated already
Chibson? Hex Key truss rod?

Damn, so much hate on the green! I dig it
Holy S*&t The Loop 97.9 WLUP. Anyone Steve and Gary?
Hi Dave. I want to buy a sticker. But where are they? I know I am getting old but I dont see these stickers you speak of.
Thunderbirds are Go!? 🎶🎸
Could you have pulled the frets, resurfaced the fretboard, essentially bringing the truss rod back into operation?
That sustain and low end sound great, but I don't think that's a legit Gibson custom color. That's about 30 shades off of Inverness green.
RIP the Loop - WLUP!!
Wrong tape Dave, you needed the metric tape to measure it first .Hahaha,The Green Hornet.👍🎸😷😱
The Loop was good back in the day
What would we do without 'exact eye-ball measuring devices' … !?!
It's called an eye-chrometer
It’s a Chibson.
Hey Dave, have you ever come across a Epiphone Allen woody Rumbelkat? And what do you think about chambered basses?
its ugly, green and i like it !!!
i sent you an email about methods of shimming a neck on a 2003 american fender Persicion bass do you have any suggestions

I've been thinking... is that thing an Epiphone? The truss rod is odd. I had a 1976 t bird, and it had the normal gibson truss rod nut.
It is a copy
Gimme some sandpaper and a can of cherry varnish. That's one oogly bass guitar.
How about a media blast box (sand blast), fine media, and a few pots of coffee.
