So I also love both makes . I completely understand where your coming from but I wanted to go the extra string to see how it would change my sound and it did , but also love the 4 string probably as much Dave . Cheers
Dave. Thanks for helping to keep all of us somewhat grounded and somehow still not insane. Your channel is great, love your cynical humor, shit we’re cut from the same cloth! Greetings from Ann Arbor!
Some time ago I did an in-depth setup following Dave's method. Today thanks to Warwick's "fiddly bullshit" bridge system I lowered my string height in seconds while retaining string spacing, ±intonation and radius in a matter of seconds.
You should look for between 0.6mm and 1.0mm at the 7th when fretting at the 1st and 24th for proper relief. I’ve always set my Warwicks at 0.8mm which works well for my playing. For the nut adjustment, capo at the 3rd fret and shoot for .02mm or .03mm at the first fret. The plastic Just-A-Nut functions, but is flimsy. The brass Just-A-Nut III is actually a good piece of kit, and pretty much bulletproof. The 3-D bridge is actually great, once you understand it. Loosen the set screws, move the saddles to get your preferred string spacing, then lock them in. Done. I personally like the ability to totally dial in my setups with all of these options. Your results may-no doubt, will-vary.

Hi. I have to disagree with you - I think the engineering solutions for Warwick basses, especially the German-made ones (most of which have the dark ovangkol necks, plus the non-German ones are termed "RockBass") are elegant and practical. The adjustable nuts, for example, are actually very useful: they allow you to lower the nut-end height of each string so that it's just eliminating fret buzz on an open string, and also assist with overall intonation (since the strings are deflected by less height when notes further up the fingerboard are fretted). But on top of the engineering, the real key to the excellence of Warwick basses is the wood. Warwick is masterful in the selection, carefully-controlled drying, lamination and assembly of its wood. I have three German-made Warwicks, and I can totally assure you that their sustain and harmonic richness are unlike almost any other bass. I also own several Mex and US Fenders, plus some lovely Ibanez, Yamaha and Spector basses, and they all have their different strengths and preffered usages. But I have to say, if I were ever forced to keep just one bass, it'd definitely be my Pro-line bubinga Warwick Corvette 4-string. I strongly recommend that you find a shop stocking German-built Warwick basses (whenever music shops are allowed to reopen) and spend some time playing and examining a few. You might be surprised!

That nut is the previous version and desperately needs to be replaced. It sucks. On 5 strings, it always softens in the center. The newer version is much better.
Wal .. lol... you're only about $10000 worth of bass guitar off ... That's not even a Germany Warwick .. I think it's one of their China specials.. ?🤷🏽♂️. And I agree, bass is a 4-string instrument!
I'm with you Dave.....4 on the floor! Most Classic Rock, including Canadian bands, were recorded with a 4 string bass. I have thought about a 4 string bass with the low string being a B and the high string being a D. You could get the low note like a 5 string, and still have access to a G note on the D string! Get what I'm saying? You would have to adjust your playing to match the tuning, but what the hey! This would really work well on a short scale bass. Maybe I'm crazy, but I'm going to try it. I have tuned down the low E to D, but I forget to tune back up, and it makes for a large mistake when you are playing a song in the E chord! You end up having to remember to fret the low B on the 5th fret to get an E note. Confused? I am! Love ya Dave! Thanxz
4 string bass with a thumb rest. LoL I've been playing bass for 48 years now, and have always adjusted them as needed. Anyone whose never heard of a truss rod shouldn't play a stringed instrument. I play in cover bands and have used 4 string basses for the first 20 years. Then the styles of music we played required I go to 5. I love being able to deliver that low end below low E. Also I do a lot of octaves, giving a simple D or B a nice bottom end. So intonation is very important to my playing style. I mainly play Fender and MusicMan but I recently purchased a Warwick Streamer (the low-price version) 5 string and I'm happy with the sound. But it has the same locking bridge.Every time I have to tweak the neck I pray to the "Intonation Gods" as well. Yes, those are locking screws on the bridge for individual string height. I had to adjust a few of them when it was new, and I hope never to have to do it again. Great show.

So, you sure work yourself up. It is just a bass. Fix it or give it back. Ulcers here we come. Lol
Its got some cheese on it lol
Wal .. lol... you're only about $10000 worth of bass guitar off ... That's not even a Germany Warwick .. I think it's one of their China specials.. ?🤷🏽♂️. And I agree, bass is a 4-string instrument!
Owns a £800 bass - "Truss Rod? Whats that..?"..... wow..
Someone paid how much for that bass and they don't know what a truss rod is???
Thanxz
The frets look like they did 3 tours in Iraq!!!
Great show.
Who has a warwick and doesnt know what a truss rod is
Why are apologizing for saying Jesus?
Glad to see another older player who doesn't like these Warwick horrors!
It's time for Dave to make drinking public again.
That just ain't natural!
